Response of Striped Puffer to the White Lights

To study the abundances of ichthyoplankton in the Nakdong River estuary, ichthyoplankton were sampled with standard net at approximately one month intervals from February, 1987 to January, 1988. Temperature and salinity in the study area showed large seasonal fluctuations due to the inflow of Nakdong River. Among 8 taxa of pelagic eggs occured in the study area, Sillago spp. occupied 37.3% of the total eggs; Coilia spp., 35.8%; Repomucenus spp., 13.7%; Engraulis japonica, 9.4%. These 4 taxa occupied 96.4% of the total eggs. Among 26 taxa of fish larvae, Engraulis japonica was the most abundant species and occupied 36.8% of the total larvae; Gobiidae, 15.3%; Repomucenus spp., 15.0%; Coilia spp., 14.0%; Hexagrammos otakii, 6.8%; Omobranchus elegans, 4.4%. These 6 taxa occupied 92.3% of the total larvae, The densities of pelagic eggs were more than 100 eggs/ 1,000m super(3) from May to October. The densities of larvae were 3.8~221.3 larvae/1,000m super(3). They were relatively high in May, July, and August.
Response od Striped Puffer to the White Light

The purpose of this study is to find the light intensity which induced maximum gathering rate and to observe the variation of the gathering rate both in daytime and tat night by using Striped puffer, Fugu xanthopterus (Temminck et Schlegel). An experimental tank(360L
55H cm) was set up in a dark room. An illumination system was attached to the end of one side of the tank to control horizontal light intensity. Eight artificial light sources were prepared by combination of three light bulbs (10W, 60W, 100W) and eight filters. During the experiment water depth was maintained 50 cm level in the tank. The tank was marked into six longitudinal sections each being 60cm long to observe the distribution of fish. The fish were acclimatized in dark condition for 50 minutes prior to the main experiment. Upon turning on the light, the number of fish in each section was counted 60 times every 30 seconds, and the gathering rate was obtained from the average number of fish in each section. The light intensity inducing maximum gathering rate was 298.56 lux (188.44-444.96 lux) at daytime and 298.56 lux (188.44-444.96 lux) at night. The variation of the gathering rate of fish in illumination time was increasing trend fluctuately and did not show any distinctive difference between day and night.
Oceanographic Condition and Fishing Condition of the Set Net Fishing Ground in Yeosu Bay

The oceanographic condition around the set net fishing ground in Yeosu Bay was investigated by the oceanographic observation in June, July and August, 1988. Also the catch of the set net was analized by daly catch data of the three set net fishing ground from April to September, 1988. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The coastal surface water is high temperature and low salinity through the influence of land, and the off shore water and bottom water are low temperature and high salinity. 2) The eddy current and the sharp thermocline in June appeared in August at the set net fishing ground, and a good catch appeared in June and August. 3) The surface temperature and salinity at the set net fishing ground are 11
. The surface temperature and salinity of a maximum good catch are 21
respectively. 4) The dominant species of fish were spanish mackerel, scad, anchovy, sardine, common mackerel, hairtail, crab, yellow tail, in order of catch.
Phototaxis of Fish - Response of Sea-bass to the Attracting Lamp -

The author has examined how sea-bass, Epinephelus septemfasciatus respond to surface attracting lamps line and underwater attracting lamps line in the experimental water tank (550L
73H cm). The attracting rate was investigated in accordance with the intervals of lighting and putting out hour (1, 5 minute) when each of the attracting lamps was gradually switched off after they were switched on all at once. The results are as follows: 1. Distribution of fish at the illuminated section; (1). The fish was more distributed in the section adjacent to the extinguished section. (2). Difference of distribution between section and section and section was greater at surface attracting lamps as compared with underwater attracting lamps. (3). Surface attracting lamps was more distributed than underwater attracting lamps at intervals of 5 minutes. 2. Attracting rate of the last section; (1). The rate was showed increasing as illuminating time elapse and became L type. (2). Attracting rate in underwater attracting lamps was higher than surface attracting lamps at intervals of 1 minutes and lower than surface attracting lamps at intervals of 5 minuets.
A Study on the Behavior in the Corner Crack Propagation of Al-Alloy used for the Shipbuilding by the Corrosion Fatigue

Recently with the rapid development in marine and shipbuilding industries such as marine structures, ships and chemical plants, it takes much interest in the study of corrosion fatigue characteristics that was close up an important role in mechanical design. In this study, characteristics of corner crack propagation on the base metal and heat affected zone of 5086 Al-Alloy was tested by using of a rotary bending fatigue tester and was investigated under the environments of specific resistance,
cm and air. The corrosion fatigue crack initiation and corrosion fatigue life sensitivity were quantitatively inspected for 5086 Al-Alloy in the specific resistance,
cm. Main results obtained are as follows: (1) The corrosion sensitivity of heat affected zone under specific resistance,
cm shows approximately 1.69~2.22 and corrosion sensitivity of base metal is more susceptible than that of heat affected zone. (2) The corrosion fatigue life sensitivity on heat affected zone decreases eminently than that of initial corrosion fatigue crack. (3) The characteristics of quarter elliptical corner crack propagation shows that depth crack is more grown than surface crack at crack initiation, but the surface crack is more propagated than depth crack as the crack propagation is increased. (4) The surface crack and depth crack growth on heat affected zone by softness show delayed phenomenon than that of base metal.
A Study on Dynamic Characteristics of Directional Control Logic Valve

A cartridge type hydraulic logic valve consists of simple two port valve whose poppet is closed or opened by means of pressure signal of a pilot line. Accordingly, the logic valve can be used not only for direction, flow and pressure control purpose but also for versatile function valve which enables all above mentioned functions. In addition, the valve has little internal leakage and pressure loss, superior response characteristics and easiness in making small block type valve. The above mentioned good performances being recognized recently, the logic valve has been used widely in the large scale hydraulic system such as a hydraulic press system, for the performance requirements of high speed operation and precise control characteristics. However, there are scarce reports until now, except for a few ones from Aachen Institute of Technology in West Germany, so it is necessary to be studied on development and investigation for practical application. This paper showed that the static and dynamic characteristics of a logic valve when the logic valve is used for directional control, to investigate the relations between the valve operating characteristics and the valve design conditions. From the above mentioned procedure, it was ascertained that the valve operation characteristics obtained by numerical analysis showed good agreements with experimental results. The representative results obtained are as follows; 1. During the valve is closing, the poppet velocity is almost constant in the logic valve. 2. The pilot pressure P sub(3) and the resistance R in the pilot line have much influences on the valve operation time. 3. Spring strength have not such a severe influence on the valve operating time. 4. The operation characteristics of the logic valve can be estimated with good accuracy comparatively by numerical analysis with the equations describing poppet motion.
