Study on the Horizontal Distribution of Squid Gill-Net Fishing Ground in the North Pacific Ocean
Lee, Sung-Hee ; Lee, Byoung-Gee ;
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 221~229
The horizontal distribution of squid gill-net fishing ground in the North Pacific Ocean was examined within the main fishing season, May to October, during 1986~1989. Data of sea surface temperature were selected from Technical Reports of National Fisheries Research Development Agency of Korea, Data Records of Hokkaido University, Deep-sea Training Reports of Korea Fishing Training centre, Fishing Operation Reports of Daelim Fisheries Co., Ltd., Oyang Fisheries Co., Ltd. and Dong-won Industrial Co., Ltd.. Data of catch were also collected from Deep-sea Training Reports of Korea Fishing Training Centre and Fishing Operation Report of three fisheries companies in Korea. The fishing ground was segmented in every 1 degree of latitude from
and 2 degree of longitude from
The distribution and centeroid of fishing ground, fished and optimum surface temperature, catch per unit effort (CPUE) in the fishing ground were computed, based on the above data. The resulted obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. Range of fishing ground can be estimated as
in September and
in October. 2. Fishing ground in May, June and October is similarly distributed along longitude and latitude, but the range of the former is larger than that of the latter in July, August and September. Monthly centeroids of fishing sectors is estimated as #3888 in May, #3884 in June, #4078 in July, #4154 in August, #4146 in September and #4044 in October respectively. 3. Fished temperature and optimum and temperature are estimated as
in October. 4. Monthly mean CPUE which corresponds to the net weight of catch(kg) divided by the sheet number of operated gillnets is calcuted as 3.2, 4.5, 4.3, 5.1, 6.4 and 5.8 kg/sheet respectively. 5. Considering the monitoring program of the squid gill-net fishery in the North Pacific Ocean during 1989~1990, set by the Korean Government, 12 sectors may be restricted out of 21 fishing sectors in May, 7 out of 24 in June, 4 out of 25 in July. They are free from restriction hereafter August.
Behavior of Yellow Tail , Seriola quinqueradiata and File Fish , Navodon Modestus to the Model Set Net
Gwon, Hyeok-Sa ; Lee, Byeong-Gi ;
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 230~236
To examine the behavior of yellow tail Seriola quinqueradiata and of file fish Navodon modestus to set net, the 1/30 scale model net of the actual set net used in the east coast of Korea was made of netting and set in the indoor experimental tank(700cm W
100cm D), of which the water depth was kept 70cm. Total length of yellow tail examined were 37~45cm and file fish were 18~21cm. The fishes were released as groups of 3 to 20 individuals. The number of fish entered into the pound net or the bag net, escaped from the net was counted every minute and accumulated for 10minutes to check the ratio entered and the ratio escaped. The result obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. In case of yellow tail, even though the ratio entered into the pound net was not so high, that into the bag net was comparatively high. Traces of the fish swimming were comparatively smooth and both entering into the pound net and escaping from it was easily done. 2. In case of file fish, even though the ratio entered into the pound net was higher than that of yellow tail, that into the bag net was lower than that into the pound net. Traces of the fish swimming were roundly meandered. Entering into the bag net was not so smoothly done, even though that into the playground was smoothly done. 3. Both yellow tail and file fish, the ratio escaped from the bag net was almost0 and that from the pound net was less than 10%.

Im, Seong-Ho ; Go, Gwan-Seo ; Gwon, Byeong-Guk ;
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 237~243
For the improvement of the traditional pots which is using purple spirals for fishing webfoot octopus, Octopus Ocellatus GRAY, some experiments are carried out on the color preference in water tank and also operated practical experiment with PVC pots at sea for the comparison on the basis of the above water tank experiment. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The colors which webfoot octopus prefer in water tank or at sea are gray, red and green in order. 2. The catching efficiency of the pots with small spout(dia. 40mm) is better than that of large spout(dia. 50mm). 3. The results of fishing efficiency between PVC pots and purple spirals are shown almost same tendency.
Fishing Experiment on Selectivity of Trawl Net
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 244~253
For the purpose of the investigation on the selective action of trawl net, a series of fishing experiments carryed out in M. S. Pusan 402 during the years of 1986~1987, by using a set of trawl net with a few pocket nets in each part of the bagnet. The author analyzed these experimental data and derived the following results. 1. 58 species of aquatic animals were caught in totally 43 times of trawl operation and 33 species of them did not escape at all through the barrier of netting in the bagnet. 2. Sardinops melanosticta, Harengula zunasi, Thrisa kamalensis, Englausis japonicus, little size of Tracurus japonicus, Sphyraena pinguis, Trichirus lepturus, and Psenopsis anomala escaped easily through the barrier of netting after being caught inside of the codend. Especially, Englusis japonicus escaped well not only through the netting of the codend but also through the netting of the square and the baiting. 3. In the case of mesh size of 60mm in the codend, Pampus argentus, Doderleinia bercoides and Tracurus japonicus were caught all in the size of less than 10cm.
A Study on the Fog Occurrence in Suyoung Bay
Jo, Gyu-Dae ; Kim, Sun-Yeong ;
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 254~264
Using the meteorological data, surface weather map, and oceanographic data for 5 years(1984-1988). I investigated the characteristics of the fog occurrence and the role of the inshore in Pusan about the fog occurrence. And the meteorological data and sea surface temperature(SST), which were observed in July, 1989 in Suyoung Bay, were compared with those in Pusan. The fogs in Pusan concentrate in May, June and July. And at fog occurrence time the principal wind directions are Southwest(SW) winds, which easily supply with water vapor, and a series of Northeast(NE) wind. At the fog days pressure patterns are pattern 7 in spring time (March, April, and May) and pattern 10 and pattern 13 in summer time (June, July, and August). Also the advection fog(sea fog) is closely related with the relationship between warm and cold advection in 850~700mb and cold and warm SST rather than the increase of the instability of atmosphere in 850~500mb. The fogs in Taegu, which is the inland region, mainly occur at dawn in fall time due to the strong night radiation fog. On the other hand in Pusan the coastal region, the fogs occur from late spring time to summer time (May, June, and July). Because there is the abundant supply of the water vapor from the ocean owing to a series of South(S) wind at this time. Then the atmosphere, which has high relative humidity, reaches easily the supersaturation by the radiation cooling. In Suyoung Bay and Pusan the meteorological observation data, SST and fog days are almost similar. And I think that the mechanism of the fog occurrence nearly accords with both regions.

Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 265~274
The temperature inversions were studied on the basis of Digital Memory Bathythermography(DBT) data collected by training ship, Pusan 402, of the National Fisheries University of Pusan in August 23~25, 1986 and Fisheries Reserach and Development Agency of Korea in August, 1986, The results were as follows; Among the 67 stations of studied area, occurrence frequency of temperature inversion was 58.20%, And the frequency of onefold occurrence of temperature inversion at its profile of each station was 13.42%. of twofold occurrence was 20.80%, and of threefold occurrence was 23.88%. In the studied area, the temperature inversion usually occurred below the 40m depth and its layers also located below the thermocline. The temperature range of its inversion was from 14
. The temperature inversion in the study area was oaused by the interaction between Tsushima Warm Current and Korea Coastal Waters.
Constant Frequency Control of Generating System Driven by Hydraulic Power - Simulation -
Jeong, Yong-Gil ; O, In-Ho ;
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 275~281
This study suggests a new type shaft generator driven by hydraulic power suitable for small size vessels. Since the shaft generator system is very easy to be affected by disturbances such as speed variation of the main engine and the load variation of the generator, a robust servo control must be performed to obtain stable electric power with constant frequency. So, in this study the robust servo control method is adopted to the controller design. Dynamic characteristics on the frequency variations of the electric power output according to the disturbances are investigated by computer simulations. From the considerations of the computer simulation results, it is ascertained that the shaft generator system proposed in this study had good control performances.
A Study on the Convergence Characteristics for the Solution of Transfer Matrix Method
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 282~287
In this paper, it has been analysed that the stability and the effectivity of the solution using traditional transfer matrix method. And applying the false-position method to these, the convergence characteristics of the solution has been also analysed. As a result, the frontal transfer matrix method is superior to traditional transfer matrix method in the stability and the accuracy of the solution in high frequency region but in the economical efficiency and the effectivity of the calculation, traditional transfer matrix method is more desiable. Also, it is clear that
curve using the frontal transfer matrix method is discontinuous.
A Study on the Mixed Fuel Characterization
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 288~294
Two pure fuel oils(#1 oil, #6 oil), theree pure alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol) were tested for the fuel characteristics such as miscibility (that established which pure fuels and fuel mixtures could be fired in the boiler), flash point, viscosity. Specific target of the study besides the oil/alcohols or oil/alcohol mixture without any modification and with safety. #1 oil could be mixed without any problems at all concentrations with two of the alcohols; these were the ethanol and propanol. However, miscibility of #6 oil with any alcohols and #1 oil with methanol was not possible and very limited in this study. The measurements of flash point and viscosity for the mixtures were done for the comparisons with the pure fuels. There was a marked change of flame shape and flame luminosity as the alcohol content of the mixtures was increased. The mixture flame shortened and became non-luminous compared with a pure fuel oil flame.

Seong, Ki-Taek ; Shin, Dong-Suk ; Lee, Deok-Su ;
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 295~302
In this paper, a methodology for the automatic design of the optimal systolic arrays is proposed. Algorithm transformation is the main mathematical tool on which this methodology is based. Also, technique for partitioning algorithm into systolic arrays is presented. Algorithm partitioning is essential when the size of the computational problem is larger than the size of the array. This study results in (a) reduction of the design time of systolic arrays for given algorithms, (b) CRT display of the structures of systolic arrays, and (c) automatic designing of the optimal systolic array by the criteria such as the number of processing elements, bands, and communication paths. The procedure for these results was programmed using HP BASIC language on HP-9836 computer.

Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 26, issue 3, 1990, Pages 303~307
In this paper, the factors of 1680 marine casualties occurred during 1986-1988 are analysed by the Principal Component Analysis. The main results are as follows: 1. Most of marine casualties result from the human factors such as careless operation and insufficient engine maintenance. Engine trouble is main part of accidents and great number of accidents is rated for fishing vessels. 2. Accidents are serious in case of cargo ships, passenger ships and tankers from the point of view of the damage of human life and properties. On the other hand, those are not so serious matter in case of fissing vessels and governmental vessels. 3. Grounding, collision and capsizal mainly result from careless operation, however material defect result in flooding
