Influences of Sowing Time and Nursery Period on Growth and Yield of Perilla frutescens BRITTON var. acuta KUDO

To determine the optimum sowing time and nursery period in Perilla frutescens in the southern areas of Korea, perilla frutescens cv. red Perilla local cultivar was grown under three different sowing dates and nursery periods. The blooming period of the area which was sown on the seedbed in Apr.10 and carried out the growing seedling in 30days is Aug. 12 and it is two days earlier than that of the area, Aug.14, sown on the seedbed in Apr. 20 and carried out the growing seedling in 30days of the same month and it is also six days earlier than that of the area, Aug.18, sown on the seedbed in April 30 and conducted the growing seedling in the same date. The stem lengths are 135cm,131cm and 125cm respectively and the number of branches are 26.4, 25.3 and 23.6 respectively. The fresh weight of stem and leaf at the area sown on the seedbed in Apr.10 and conducted the growing seedling in 30days with the width of leaf over 5cm in the middle of Aug. and at the beginning of Sep. is 2,476kg/10a and it shows more increase of 172kg than that of fresh weight of stem and leaf with 2,304kg/10a which was sown on the seedbed in Apr.20 and earned out the growing seedling in 30days, and it also shows more increase of 411kg than that of fresh weight of stem and leaf with 2,065kg/10a at the area sown on the seedbed in April 30 and conducted the growing seedling in the same date, The fresh weight of seeds are 609.5kg/10a,509.3kg/10a and 463.2kg/10a respectively and
is more increased. Therefore, the seedling period of the proper seedbed for high yield bumper crop of perilla frutescens for exporting to Japan is April 10 and the number of days for seedling is 30 days.
Basic Studies on Culture Practice of Gentiana scabra BUNGE

Screening of Chemicals for Control of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in Lycium chinense MILLER

This study was carried out to select chemicals those are effective for the control of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides of Lycium chinense Miller. Dithidone and Propy wettable powders (WP) were treated to Chungyang native variety for the test of control effect The effect was examined after dilution the solution with 500 times, and chemicals injury was treated with 250 times of diluted solution. The results were as follows ; 1. Occurrence of the disease was most serious in min- Ju1y and in mid- August, and the attacking of the disease was highest at about

Effect of Planting Depth on the Quality and Yield in Rehmannia glutinosa LIBOSCHITZ

This experiment was carried out to elucidate the effect of planting depth on the Quality and yield in Rehmannia glutinosa. Planting depths were 3,6,9 and 12cm, and planted on April 18. Emergence rate was decreased in the order of 86% in 3cm, 67% in 6cm, 37% in 9cm and 21% in 12cm. Leaf length was longer about
in planting depth 6-12cm than that of 15.6cm in planting depth 3cm. Yield of Rehmannia glutinosa were lower 5% in planting depth 6cm, 62% in 9cm and 68% in 12cm than that of l,154kg/10a in planting depth 3cm. And optimum planting depth was considered 6cm.
Effects of Fertilization and Mulching on Yield and Quality of Peusedanum japonicum THUNBERG

application and mulching materials on the yield and quality of Peusedanum japonicum. And conducted from 1990 to 1992 in the south region. The emergency rate by mulching materials was 80% on non-mulching, 74% on black P.E mulching, but 49% on the transparent P.E mulching. The yield of dried root on the transparent P.E mulching was increased 7% compared to non-mulching. The decreasing rate of yield was increased with the sequence of $N>P_2O_5>K_2O_5$. Vitamin Contents in the Fruits of Rosa davurica PALL

Vitamin contents in three different types of the fruits and seeds of Rosa davurica Pall. were determined to examine their applicability for a new health food products as well as medical supplies. HPLC analysis of the fruits showed that circular(L) type fruits contained the highest ascorbic acid (AA) concentration (911mg/1000g). Elliptical and circular(S) type fruits contained a little less amounts of AA, their concentrations being 358mg/l00g and 344mg/100g, respectively. Spectrophotometric analysis of total

Floral Characteristics and Cross Compatibility of Collected Paeonia lactiflora PALL

In order to obtain the basic information on cross breeding of peony, the growth and floral characteristics were investigasted for local collected strains in main cultvation area in Korea. Local peony strains were classified by early emergence lines and late emergence lines according to the emergence date. Flower color of single-petaling flower was varied with red, pink and white, on the other hand, red+red, pink+white, pink+red and pink+pink in double-petaling flower. Number of pistil of the most local peony strains was 3-4/flower, number of stamen was varied from 0 to more than 200 ea/flower, classifing by 4 groups according to the diameter of flower. Most of the cross combinations showed the cross comptibility, and number of follicle was 3-5 ea/flower, average number of seed was 15.6 ea/follicle, seed size was grouped : by small grains with less than 10g, medium grains with 10-15g and large grains with more than 15g of 100 seed weight.

Characteristics of Flower and Fruit in Collected Schizandra chinensis BAILLON

Characteristics of Schizandra chinensis BAILLON collected were investigated the development of the new varieties and the results obtained are as follows: Flowering time of Schizandra chinensis varieties were varied from May 6 to 15. In petal base colors 70% were light pinked-colored, 23% were dark pinkcolored and 23% were white-colored respectively and number fruit set per node are 2 to 3 and 60% of plants were flower set and length of diameter of female flower longer than those of male flowers. Among 155 plants investigated, 125 plants showed below 40% of fruit setting and average fruit setting were 26%, 83% of plants were below 12mm, white 17% were above 12.1mm in fruit length, 100 dry fruit weight was 13.2g on average showing significant variation among plants. Average values of major characteristics of populations of collected varieties were 82.5 in number of fruit set, 68.3 in number of fruits 68.3mm in length of fruit set, 22.8mm in width of fruit set, 10.7mm in length of granule 103.1g in dry fruit weight per plants and ratio of dry fruit was 26.8% respectively.
In vitro Variant Induction and Its Content of Gentiopicroside of Gentiana scabra BUNGE

This study was aimed to mutant induction in Gentiana scabra BUNGE through the tissue culture techniques and comparison of gentiopicroside content in each mutant plants derived from tissue culture. In order to induce the mutants of Gentiam scabra, seed, apical and lateral bud were soaked in
, EMS and MNU solutions and cultured on MS basal medium containing 0.5mg/l NAA, BA
, MNU-treated buds survived about 50% but not survived in EMS treatment. Seed germination rate was extremely low in EMS and MNU treatments but various types of mutant plantlets were obtained by those treatments. 63% of elongated type and 37% of dwarf type were obtained from tissue culture treated by various mutagen. Gentiopicroside contents of regenerated plantlets was analyzed. Root of dwarf type contained more gentiopicroside(1.383%) than that of elongation type (0.083%).
Basic Studies for Increment of Germanium Contents in Angelica keiskei KOIDZ., and A. acutiloba KITAGAWA

This study was carried out to examine the germanium contents of Angelica keiskei Koidz. and A. acutiloba Kitagawa and to intend to increase its contents while those leaf explants were culturing on MS medium supplemented with organic and inorganic germanium. Ge content of Agelica keiskei Koidz. was 2.1 times higher than that of A. acutiloba Kitagawa. Digestion was done quickly at high temperature, but Ge content was decreased. Callus formation of A. acutiloba Kitagawa was better than that of A. keiskei Koidz. Callus formation of both plants was good in order of pH 5.7, pH 5.4, and pH 6.0. But shoots from callus were formed frequently in A. keiskei Koidz., especially at pH 5.7. Callus formation of both plants was good up to 5 ppm of inorganic (
retarded at 10 ppm, and rarely formed at 100 ppm, but was good up to 10ppm of organic germanium retarded at 50 ppm and formed some-what even at 100 ppm.
Induction of Somatic Embryos and RAPD Analysis in Regenerated Plantlets of Bupleurum falcatum L.

This study was conducted to determine the optimum conditions for induction and different somatic of somatic embryos as well as germination of encapsulated and stored somatic embryos. Somatic embryos was better formed in 1/2X MS medium than full - strength MS medium. 0.1 to 1.0mg/lBA and kinetin promoted shoot differentiation of somatic embryos. Higher concentration tend to inhibit differentiation. IAA affect positively both root and shoot growth. In vitro germination of somatic embryos encapsulated with 2% alginate matrix containing 1/2 MS nutrient medium and
5mg/l was 86%. Storage of somatic embryos was effecive at
but the germination rate decreased with longer storage period. RAPD analyses with plants regenerated from the somatic embryos showed DNA polymorphism, indicating abolition of primer binding site by point mutation, deletion, or insertion of certain sequences.
Changes of Tuber Yield and Total Sugar Content by Different Harvesting Dates in Liriope platyphylla WANG et TANG

Experiment for analysing changes of growth, tuber yield and total sugar content during wintering was performed with Maekmoondong 1(L. platyphylla WANG et TANG). The growth of over ground characteristics including leaf length, tiller number and fresh leaf weight lasted to the middle of April. The growth and filling of tuber were progressed and got to the top of tuber yield (387kg/l0a) in the middle of March, showing the optimum harvesting time in Big Blue Lilyturf cultivation. Total sugar content showed the highest value(79%) in the late of January and was decreased gradually to the middle of March during wintering. There was highly significant negative correlation between total sugar content and tuber yield.
Cytogenetic Analysis of Bupleurum falcatum L. Cultivated in Korea

Karyotype analysis was carried out in four lines of Bupleurum falcatum L. cultivated in Korea and SDS-PAGE was applied to determine the seed protein profiles among the lines. Chromosomes were classified into two groups, large and small ones. Two kinds of karyotype, 2n=20 and 2n=26, were identified. Chromosome 1 of 2n=20 were all submedian, while that of 2n=26 were median. Chromosomes 2, 3 and 5 of 2n=20 showed polymorphism in size and arm-ratio. Chromosome 2 was submedian, while others were median in the line of 2n=26. Karyotypcs of cultivars native of Korea were similiar each other, while those introduced from Japan showed different patterns. In SDS PAGE gels, qualitative difference s in high molecular weight proteins, more than 45KD, were detected among the lines. The numbers of specific band were three in lines of 2n=20 and two in 2n=26.
Studies on the Seed Development and Germination of Adenophora triphylla DC

These experiments were conducted to investigate the growth and characteristics of Adenophora triphylla DC. seed, and effects of some pretreatments and light condition on the gemination of it. The results were as follows. Seed coat was soft and white at 30 days after flowering, but it became hard and brown from 40 days. The 1,000 grain weight was 247mg at 40 days after flowering and high at 50 days as 268mg, and decreased from 60 days. Germination percentage was highest at 100ppm

Variation of Plant Characters and Correlation Analysis of Its in Bupleurum falcatum L.

Variation of plant characters and correlation anlaysis of its in Bupleurum falcatum, medicinal plant, were investigated to find useful selection characters and to obtain fundamental data for breeding. The variation was generally high. In plants having high height and many branch, stem thickness was high and leaf and root weight were great. The group of short height and many branch showing low frequency was higher than that of medium height and branch showing high frequency. And the correlation between top and root characters were positively significant The major top characters correlated with root yield were stem thick-ness, branch number, node number, node position attached 1st branch(NPFB), and leaf area.
