Characteristics of the lung inflation and deflation reflexes were measured at various temperatures on the cervical vagi in five anesthetized mongrel dogs. Nerve temperature was maintained at the body temperature, and 2-14˚C with 2˚C apart using a specially designed automated vagal cooling apparatus with an accuracy to within
0.1˚c at each temperature. The inflation reflex was blocked abruptly at 8-10˚C. The deflation reflex started weakened at 14˚C, thereafter showed a gradual blockade with the temperature decreased with a substantial variance among the animals.It was approximately 75% blocked at 2-5˚C. These differences in temperature characteristics made it hard to differentiate the deflation reflex from the inflation reflex. In one animal, however, the inflation reflex was completely blocked with the deflation reflex almost alive at 6-8˚C. This suggests that differential cold blockade of the vagal reflexes can be done only in selected subjects. Furthermore, the fact that these two reflexes were blocked at different temperatures may be due to the differences in the nerve fiber size and the changes in the conduction velocity with temperature.
Computer Simulation of Glucose-insulin Kinetics During Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test

A new quantitative method was developed for separation of three interactive physiological factors (hepatic glucose balance, peripheral tissue's insulin resistivity, and insulin secretion rate) influencing glucose intolerance in diabetic mellitus using an equivalent circuit model and the intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) in six dogs and twenty two humans. The results show that the estimated model parameters of the above three factors are useful for evaluating different glucose-insulin kinetics in normal and diabetic subjects.
The Velocity Characteristics of the Vertical Saccadic Eye Movement System

In this paper, the velocity characteristics of the vertical saccadic eye movement system with subject-experiment are investigated utilizing the infra-red methed. Especially, target-generation system which produces pseudo-random signals using EPROM 2716 and differentiator whose time constant is 12 msec are developed in hardware.

A Study on Spectral Characteristics of Ultrasonic Signal for Tissue Attennation Coefficient Measurement

In this paper, center frequency down slift of ultrasonic echo signals which for the measurements of frequency dependent attenuation in the biological tissue are estimated. Center frequency down shift of echo-signals are estimated after signal spectrum analysis of whole echo-signals. In case of signal spectrums are simple, estimation of down shift frequency is very simple and in case of complicate spectrum, estimation of down shift frequency is depend on spectral shape. In case of unable to estimate, frequency dependence of medium is nonlinear(n) 1), in which upper shift of spectrums are presented. In case of unable to estimate, spectrum analysis are performed at local position. At consquence, we know that spectral dispersions are caused complicately by biological tissue layer.
Pattern Classification of EMG Signal for Artficial Arm Control

This paper deals with the processing of statistical pattern classification of unifunctional EMG signal. The signal was detected from bicep and tricep of a simulated amputees instead of below the humerus amputees or paralyzed persons.
