Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 4, issue 3, 2002, Pages 243~247
The purposes of this study were 1) to investigate school uniform image preferences and the uniform modifications of male and female high school students, and 2) to find the differences between male and female students in the uniform image preferences and uniform modifications. The subjects used for the study were 195 male and 201 female high school students. The uniform image preferences consisted of three factors: comfortable & simple, unique & individual, and intelligent & classic. The uniform modifications were measured by the modifications in jacket width, sleeve length, shoulder width, slacks(skirt) length, slacks(skirt) width, and slacks(skirt) waist length. The results showed that male and female students were different in regard to uniform image preference; male students preferred unique image than did female students in their school uniforms. In addition, male and female students differed concerning uniform modifications. Generally, female students modified uniforms more than did male students. Finally, the study compared male and female students in regard to the relationships between uniform image preferences and the uniform modifications. For male and female students, the unique image preference was significantly related to the modifications in different parts of uniform.

Kim, Su-Hyeon ; Lee, Jeong-Ran ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 4, issue 3, 2002, Pages 254~260
The purpose of this study is to grasp the actual condition toward the clothing of senior males' and perception of male's formal wear companies for silver market through a survey targeting senior males and clothing companies. The survey was conducted targeting 196 senior males and chief-patterners of 7 companies' 10 brands. The questionnaire distributed to senior males was consisted of 22 items regarding the perception and satisfaction on clothes. And 12 items concerning the perception of senior male clothing brands and the size system was developed for clothing companies. The results of the study are as follows. The study revealed that most senior males perceived that brand clothing for them was necessary. More than half of the respondents were not satisfied with ready-made clothes. And many senior males prefer ready-made clothing when they purchase their clothes. For these reasons, senior males apparel market might be promising. Currently, the perception of male's formal wear companies on the need of brand was high. However, considering that brand launching might be difficult to be realized soon I presume that size spectrum based on body size of senior males is necessary which reflect their physical characteristics and activities.

Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 4, issue 3, 2002, Pages 261~265
To propose a basic material that can improve the crumples in the knee area and can be applied as an element of garment design, the present study examined the elongation rates of the samples by differentiating the number of cutting lines according to the direction of the fabric, and then determined the puckering phenomenon by judging the conditions of the seams based on the looks of seam lines after bi-axil elongation. After the subjective evaluation on the knee areas of both the standard and modified trousers, the following conclusion was drawn : The elongation rates of the samples are: warp (3.98%)
cross-legged (-0.2)>squatting down (-0.4); those in the modified trousers feel more comfortable when sitting on a chair (0.2)>cross-legged (0)>squatting down (-0.6). In the cross-legged posture, the modified trousers (0) has higher scores in the subjective evaluation than the standard ones (-0.2). The evaluation on the looks of needleworks in the samples with cutting lines along the direction of the fabric: weft2 (5.0)

This research is compared and analyzed variations of the heavy metal contents in human hairs according to treating permanent wave manipulation before and after and permanent wave agents. This is the survey of women's hairs in 19 years old. On the basis of this we would like to analyze a extend of exposing of heavy metal scientifically. Also, we would to show a basic data for the permitted limits of heavy metal to keep the healthy hair The conclusion is as follows.; Mean contents of heavy metal in hairs is 2.11 ppm (Pb), 0.25 ppm (Cd), 2.62 ppm (Ni), 256 ppm (Zn), 8.45 ppm (Cu). In reducing agents (processing lotions) of perm, 1.50 ppm (Pb), 0.03 ppm (Cd), 0.05 ppm (Ni), 15.45 ppm (Zn), 0.86 ppm (Cu) in a perm (S), 2.30 ppm (Pb), 0.05 ppm (Cd), 0.05 ppm (Ni), 13.05 ppm (Zn), 0.65 ppm (Cu) in a perm (T). In oxidizing agents (neutralizer) of perm, 1.40 ppm (Pb), 0.03 ppm (Cd), 0.09 ppm (Ni), 9.05 ppm (Zn), 0.65 ppm (Cu) in a perm (S), 1.50 ppm (Pb), 0.02 ppm (Cd), 0.16 ppm (Ni), 8.00 ppm (Zn), 0.85 ppm (Cu) in a perm (T). Mean contents of lead(Pb) didn't show significant differences according to treating cysteine perm agents, showed it according to 3 treating thioglycolic acid perm agents (p<0.05). Mean contents of cadmium(Cd) showed significant differences (p<0.001) according to 2 treating both perm agents. Mean contents of nickel (Ni) showed neither. Mean contents of zinc (Zn) showed significant differences according to 2 treating cysteine perm agents (p<0.001) and 1 treating thioglycolic acid perm agents (p<0.01). Mean contents of copper (Cu) didn't show significant differences according to treating cysteine perm agents, showed it according to 1 treating thioglycolic acid perm agents (p<0.001).
Frictional Characteristics Between Same Fabrics
Park, Jung-Whan ; Kim, In-Hyun ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 4, issue 3, 2002, Pages 273~283
In this study, the correlations of the two frictional testers have been investigated; one is the KES-FB4 system, the other is the Fabric-on-Fabric Frictional tester which was devised by authors. According to the results, the correlation between the frictional coefficients measured by the two testers has been shown highly as the load increased. But the effect of roughness of fabric surface was not dearly revealed in this study. The frictional characteristics of fabric woven from filament yarns were different with those of fabric woven from spun yarns. And, like the other materials, the effect of load on fabrics used in this experiment was related with the frictional force between two fabrics. The frictional behaviors, however, were obviously different with harder material because the frictional coefficients were not constant as the load increased.
Quantitative Evaluation of Fabric Drape Using Image Analysis
Park, Chang-Kyu ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 4, issue 3, 2002, Pages 284~288
In this research, a new quantitative fabric drape evaluation system has been developed using image processing technology. The purpose of this research is to get the more detailed information of fabric drapability quantitatively from digital images captured with a digital camera generally commercialized. The shape parameters of a 3-dimensional geometric drape model were defined as the number of nodes, frequency and amplitude. Also, various statistical information of drape shapes can be obtained using image processing technology and frequency analysis as well as traditional drape coefficients. Hardware system to capture drape images is simply composed of three parts including a digital USB (Universal Serial Bus) camera, a frame cover and a stand for camera to attach to traditional drape tester. The evaluation software coded with the MS Visual C++ is operated under the MS windows 9x above.

Kim, Ho-Jung ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 4, issue 3, 2002, Pages 289~292
'Burn-Out' is a kind of printing process that can create many textural effects, also high added value of the fabrics. In the previous studies, it is examined how to burn out the cellulose part of the velvet and the polyester/cellulosic fiber mixed fabric without damage of the other part and the effects of process conditions. In this study, dyeing properties of the colored burn-out printing were investigated with various conditions onto the polyester/cellulosic fiber mixed fabrics with red disperse dye. As a results, the apparent color depth (K/S) is increased with increasing of concentration of dye. The optimum treatment conditions without any shrinkage or occurrence of yellowness on the polyester ground fabrics are fixation temperature of
and time of 3 minutes.
