Kim, Kyung-In ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 382~390
In the 21st century, men is expressing the femininity instead of the muscularity. And a boundary line between a man and a woman is not clear any more. A man is interested in the lifestyle of a woman, and he imitates her fashion styles, hairstyles, accessories, make-up, and plastic surgery. He is called as "Metrosexual" or "Crossexual". Nowadays, men as well as women can satisfy the wants for beauty. The beautiful appearance of a man has a good impact on the social relationships. The feminizing trends are generally accepted and are shown in the silhouettes, details, colors, fabrics and accessories. The feminizing trends in men's knitwear are shown in the various items. They have slim silhouettes and feminine details. Also they are made of bulky yarns or fancy yarns, and various stitches for texture effects. The most outstanding changes in men's knitwear are the vivid colors and flower patterns.

The purpose of this study is to investigate characteristics of arrangement methods and weaving types of fabrics during 16-17 century. Research was done through the references of exhumed clothing in Chosun Dynesty. Seeing the waving types of fabrics of flower patterned fabrics of total 108 items, satin damask(Dahn) was 71items, took the majority. And the next order was twill(Neung) and plain(Ju). It means Dahn was the most popular fabric among the upper classes. It was regarded as one of the noble textiles, because of its luxurious appearance and pleasant touch. Flower patterned plain fabric(Munju) was found only 9items, even though the plain fabric was the most common used type. Assumed for the reason, Chosun government had restrict to extravagance of the people. In terms of the arrangement of flower pattern, it can be classified into three methods. The most common arrangement method was Arabesque type, followed by open order shaped type and scattering shaped type. In the repetition of pattern, there were brick-shaped pattern and half drop pattern which were spread flower pattern all over the surface of fabric.

Lee, Eun-Jung ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 407~412
In order to check ordinary trend of a research for old ages, it was collected and analyzed against old ages. Out of a research papers from 1995 to 2005 issued for 6 scientific journals in clothing and textiles areas which were listed on KOREA RESEARCH FOUNDATION. The results were as follows. First, the research papers for 11 years from surveyed scientific journals were totally 5,711 papers, and It were only 71 papers for old ages to be reviewed and surveyed, which slightly occupied 1.24% from whole papers. Second, yearly ranges of research paper against old ages were shown to be down-trend, as it recorded 2.75% in 1995, however it falls on 0.77% in terms of the increasing aspect of clothing and textiles research paper numbers. Third, a paper for each research areas ranged in turn, as clothing construction, fashion merchandising socio-psychology of clothing, etc. If we see in detail area, the research for somatotype and role occupied 37.4% from all researches against old ages. Accordingly it needs more various kinds of study. Fourth, The Koreav Society of Clothing and Textiles paper occupied 40.8% from whole scientific journals, which was obviously shown. Fifth, each sex distribution for researched old ages noted almost old women (77.5%), but cover 9.9% for old men. Therefore it required much more researches for old men, we thought.
Status Quo Analysis on the Wearing Practice of Blue Jeans According to Women's Age
Lim, Ji-Young ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 413~419
This study was performed to analyze the wearing practice and the purchasing characteristics of jeans in order to offer basic data to produce superior jeans made of denim with small flexibility and to improve the wearing comfort. The questionnaire were 236 Korean women from the age of 10th to 50th. For data analysis, descriptive analysis and crosstabs were used. The results were as follows, in the purchasing characteristics, when the women of 10th to 30th decided to purchase jeans they considered fashion, design and price rather than wearing comfort. But the women of 40th to 50th considered that wearing comfort is the most important factor. The 10th is found the best preferred jean is wide straight style, the 20th is straight style, the 30th is boots cut style and the 40th to 50th is straight style. In wearing practice, there was a difference among age groups on the region that felt uncomfortable when wearing jeans. As the age increases, the abdomen size also increases. Most people answered that they mend jeans after purchase for length, without any relation with age. The reason why consumers prefer jeans with middle length between the crotch and waist and also purchase jeans with a short length is because they look refined and neat. This informs us that the short length between the crotch and waist does not match with ease and comfort, which are the images of jeans in the past. Recently premium jean brands are competing to show Low Rise Jeans, which seems like a Premium Jean=Low Rise Jean formula is created. Some manufacture companies are recklessly copying foreign designs that does not fit Korean's body shape. However, as mentioned in this study results, there is a clear difference between designs that they think consider as aesthetic and functional. Therefore, it is considered necessary for developing designs for jeans that can satisfy both aesthetic appreciation and functions for Korean consumer's body shape and each age group.

Choi, Sun-Yoon ; Lee, Jeong-Ran ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 420~426
Korean prior studies on smart clothing seeking complete mixture of clothing and computer with diverse functions in the ubiquitous environment were so mere, while there have been aggressive activities to develop diverse smart clothing products led by the relevant industries and universities in foreign countries. Given prospective growth of the smart clothing market, there should be customers' evaluation of functions and utility of and sensitivity to smart clothing as well. This study conducted a questionnaire to Korean customers in their twenties regarding their perception and liking of and willingness to use smart clothing, and examined the needs of new functions of smart clothing. As a result, the customers in their twenties turned out to like well-designed and comfortable clothing, and be exposed to diverse and continuous computing environment. Also, they have relatively low perception but considerably high liking of smart clothing, indicating their high willingness to use smart clothing products. They cited 'selectable functions' and 'mobile and convenient ' as merits, and 'too expensive' and 'easy to wash' as demerits of smart clothing. In the respect, they proposed many interesting smart clothing ideas, such as 'clothing with automatic temperature-sensing function, which gets higher heat- insulating function by tightening the textile structure in winter and higher ventilating function by loosening the textile structure in summer.' We hope the results of this study will serve basic data for development of more efficient smart clothing in the future.

Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 433~440
This research was made to suggest a functional and fitted prototype of swallow-tailed coat for sports dance. We established the basic posture of standard dance from literature investigations, and grasped the changes of the body side-surface by motions through the gypsum-experiments with a man in twenty. The unfolded gypsum shells were overlapped on the basic swallow-tailed coats pattern drafted by their size of experimenter. From our results through analysis, our pattern of the swallow-tailed coats for sports dance was designed considering their functional and structural character. In case of upper body with the greatly increased shoulder width of garment and with the decreased front. When moving, owing to the rising of the armpit point, the side-line becomes longer with the shoulder length decreased greatly. In case of sleeves, the length of sleeves back increased greatly by the arm-bending motions while sleeve height becomes lowered.

Yoo, Tae-Soon ; Kim, Jung-Hae ; Jung, Youn ;
Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 441~448
This research is the hair damage as treating a permanent wave before and after that is compared and analyzed the change of physical and mechanical properties. This is the survey of women's hair in 20 years old. On the basis of this we would like to analyze a extend of hair damage. Also, we would to show a basic data for hair damage prevention and hair improvement to keep the beautiful and healthy hair. The conclusion is as follow. : The swelling degree after the treatment was found to be greater than before permanent wave treatment. For the formational characteristics wave, untreated hair certainly had more elastic S curl wave than damaged hair in all the permanent wave treatments, and damaged hair and extremely damaged hair had less elasticity and had saggy S curl wave. The protein permanent and soft permanent wave had thicker, gorgeous, and better elastic wave than the regular permanent wave and direct heating permanent wave in all the hair condition. As the degree of damage on hair got greater, the tensile strength dramatically decreased and as the degree of damage got greater, the elongation was great as well. For treatment method, direct heating permanent wave showed the greatest effect, causing the most damage.

The adsorption ability of heavy metal ions from the aqueous solution by chitosan, which it is well known natural biopolymer, has been investigated. The fundamental study in this research is focusing on the physicochemical adsorption utilizing the chitosan as a organic chelating adsorbent, adsorb especially heavy metal ions from the waste liquid solution. The adsorption ability of the chitosan between metal ions, having different characteristics with Mw of 188,600, 297,200, and 504,200 g/mol and degree of deacetylation (DD) of 86.92% and 100% were investigated targeting on the
ions, respectively. The uptake of heavy metal ions with chitosan was performed by atomic absorption flame emission spectrophotometer (AAS) as conducted residual metal ions. It was found that chitosan has an strong adsorption capacity for some metals under certain conditions. Chitosan, which have 100% degree of deacetylation showed high adsorption recovery ratio and have an affinity for all kinds of heavy metals. In contrast, the molecular weight of chitosan was not completely affected on metal ion adsorption.

Fashion & Textile Research Journal, volume 8, issue 4, 2006, Pages 465~470
Walnut hull is a by-product from the Walnut tree, used as natural dyestuff from ancient times. This study was done to examine the effects of extractive conditions on the properties of walnut hull extracts for making efficient use of the walnut hull as a natural colorant. Aqueous extracts of walnut hull were prepared at various extractive concentration, temperature and time. Then they were characterized using UV-Vis. Spectrophotometer, FT-IR Spectrometer, Prep Liquid Chromatography, and Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. The aqueous extracts have two absorbency peaks of UV-Vis. Spectrum, shoulder type peak in the range of 270-280 nm and broad type band around 420 nm. Intensity of absorbency is increased with increase of extraction concentration and time. However, Boiling temperature extraction method showed the most efficiency of all. Intensity of absorbency is also affected by extraction pH. The Prep LC examined two kinds of isolated colorant with different molecular weight. FT-IR spectra of hull extracts showed an absorption band around
, the peaks at
, which are characteristic of aromatic compounds with unsaturated ketone and benzene ring. It showed that the extraction contained some mineral ions, such as K, Ca, Si, Mg.
