Flame-retardant Coating of Cotton Fabric via UV curing of DMEP

A new UV-curable coating was carried out to impart the flame-retardant property to cotton fabric using Bis[2-(methacryloyloxy)ehtyl]phosphate(DMEP) and 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-propan-l-one(HMPP) as a UV-curable monomer and a photoinitiator, respectively. The cotton fabrics were applied with various amounts of DMEP and HMPP via padding and UV irradiation, and the optimal concentrations of DMEP and HMPP in the formulation were 40%(w/w) and 7%omp respectively. A limiteed oxygen index(LOI) up to 28.9 was obtained for the UV-cured fabric, which may occur through a condensed phase mechanism as verified by the increased residue number with increased application level. The characterization of the UV-cured coating was made by IR analysis, thermo-gravimetric analysis, LOI test, and scanning electron microscopy.
Dye-resist Properties of Reactive Dye-resist Agents in Reactive Dyeing of Silk

The dye-resist effect of reactive dye-resist agents in reactive dyeing of silk was investigated. The dichlorotriazine-based dye-resists achieved a higher effectiveness than others since they make a charge barrier of diffusion in the silk fiber periphery due to high reactivity of dichlorotriazine group. Similarly, in the case of hetero-multifunctional dye-resist agent, the dye-resist agent containing both a dichlorotriazine and an
-bromoacrylamide reactive groups achieved better resist effectiveness than those containing both a monochlorotriazine and an
-bromoacrylamide groups. Also, their resist effectiveness was improved by increasing the number of sulfonate groups in the dye-resist agents and the number of reactive groups in the reactive dyes applied to them.
Dyeing of Polyvinyl Alcohol Fibers in Filament Yarn Form with Reactive and Vat Dyes

As polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) filament yarn is commercially used in many fields due to its high strength and modulus properties. This research was carried out to study the dyeing behavior of PVA and to find out appropriate dye for better dyeing. As the dyeing behavior of PVA fiber is similar to cellulose due to the same functional group, reactive and vat dyes were selected for the dyeing. Color strength of PVA fibers treated with vat dyes was found to be better than those with reactive dyes, because of the low fixation of reactive dye on fibers. Most of the reactive dye may became hydrolyzed, and flushed away with water in washing. Colorfastness to laundering was shown to be very high for both of the reactive-dyed and vat-dyed PVA fibers.
The Synthesis of New Leuco Squarylium Dyes

It is well known that certain classes of dye are reducible to stable colorless leuco compounds, which can be oxidized in air back to the colored species. We now reported that bis(4-dialkylaminophenyl)squaraine dyes are readily reduced in solution by borohydride to give alkali soluble leuco compound, which exists in the 3-hydroxy 2,4-bis(4-dialkylaminophenyl)cyclobuten-one. New alkylamine leuco compounds were synthesized by the reaction of leuco chloro-squaraine with alkylamine derivatives. The leuco compounds are easily isolated and can be air oxidized back to the squaraine dyes. These dyes have many technical application. e.g. in xerography, solar cell, optical recording material, redox indicators, and enzyme assays.
Effects of Protective Colloids on the Formation of Polyurea Microcapsules

Cypermethrin-containing polyurea microcapsules were prepared by interfacial polymerization using aromatic 2,4-toluene diisocyanate(TDI) and Ethylene diamine(EDA) as wall forming materials. The effects of the protective colloids of polyvinylalcohol(PVA) and gelatin were investigated through experimentation. The mean size of the polyurea microcapsules was smaller and the surface morphology of the PVA was much smoother than gelatin. In addition the release behavior was much more controlled and better sustained. As the concentration of protective colloid increased, the wall membrane of the polyurea microcapsules became more stable, the thermal stability of the wall membrane increased, the mean particle size became smaller, and the particle distribution was more uniform. The release behavior of the core material changed according to the concentration. As the gelatin concentration was increased, a more controlled and sustained release behavior was observed. However, in the case of PVA, the increase of PVA concentration lead to a more rapid release rate.
Direct Coloration using Self-assembly Fabrication Method on PET Fibers - Surface diazo coupling reaction -

The electrostatic layer-by-layer technique provides a convenient way to control the construction of ultrathin films at nano-scale ranges and can be easily obtained. It can be also applicable to fiber substrate with dye compounds. We have fabricated multilayer dye films using diazonium resin and three couplers, which are prepared by self-assembly approach. This method is based on layer-by-layer deposition using electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions. Beside, the diazo coupling reaction proceeded to form azo dye layer on the PET fibers the same time. The corresponding results of the multilayer films have been discussed on the level of color strength (K/S).
