An Efficient Processing Technique for Similarity based Visual Queries

Visual information retrieval and image databases are very important applications of spatial access methods. The quaries for these applications are visual and based not on exact match but on dubjective similarity. The individual aperations of spatial access methods are much more expensive than those of conventional one-dimensional access methods. Also, because the visual queries are much more complex than textual queries, an efficient processing technique for visual queries is one of the critical requirements in the development of large and scalable image databases. Therefore, efficient translation and execution for the complex visual queries are not less important than those of textual databases. In this paper, we introduce our cognitive and topological studies that are required to process subjective visual queries effectively. Then, we propose an efficient translation and execution techniques for similarity based visual queries by conducting these related studies.
An Active Temporal Rule Model on Temporal Database

To efficiently manage data varying over time and process event driven transactions, some of the various database applications recently emerged require database systems supporting both a temporal data model and active rule processing. There has been much progress in independent research on temporal databases and active databases, but studies on databases which support both functions, have been rare. In this paper, an active temporal rule model supporting both active rule processing and temporal data model is presented with its rule expression language. This active temporal rule model contributes to the active function extension of the temporal database, and to establishing the concept of data access events which refer temporal attributes of data in active rules.
A Fixed Grid Based Cache Algorithm for Performance Improvement in Internet Geographic Information System

Recently, the use of Geographic Information System in each field of our society is on the increase according to the development of the Internet. But, thereis a problem of the user access latencies, the network traffic, and the server overload in Internet Geographic Information System because spatial data are transferred in large volumes. In this paper, we propose a cache algorithm on client side to solve the above problems. The proposed algorithm demonstrates the performance improvement over known studies by utilizing unit time and spatial proximity. In addition, this paper conducts a performance evaluation to measure the improvement in algorithm efficiency and analyzes the results of the performance evaluation. When spatial data queries are conducted, according to our performance evaluation, hit rate has been improved over the existing algorithms.
Design and Evaluation of a Fault-Tolerant Distributed Location Management Method in Mobile Environments

One of the main chalenges in personal communication services (PCS) is to locate many mobile terminals that may move frequently from place to place. Such a system operation is called location management. Many network signaling traffic, and database queries are required to achieve such a task. Several strategies have been proposed to improve the efficiency of location management. These strategies use location register databases to store the current location on mobile terminals, and are vulnerable to failure of the location registers. In this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant pointer forwarding with distributed home location register (FT-RFDHLR) to tolerate the failure of location registers. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by an analytical model, and is compared with thew pointer forwarding with the single home location register (PFSHLR), the pointer forwarding with distributed home location register (PFDHLR), Biaz's bypass forwarding strategy (BFS) and two-path forwarding strategy (TPFS).
Object Oriented Spatial Data Model using Geographic Relationship Role

Geographic Information System(GIS) deal with data which can potentially be useful for a wida range of applications. However, the information needs of each application usually vary, specially in resolution, detail level, and representation style, as defined in the modeling phase of the geographic database design. To be able to deal with such diverse needs, the GIS must after features that allow multiple representations for each geographic entity of phenomenon. This paper addresses the problem of formal definition of the objects and their relationships on geographical information systems. The geographical data is divided in two main classes: geo-objects and geo-fields, which describe discrete and continuous representations of spatial reality. I will study the classes and the roles of relationships over geo-fields, geo-objects and nongeo-objects. Therefore, this paper will contribute the efficient design of geographical class hierarchy schema by means of formalizing attribute-domains of classes.
Using Genetic Rule-Based Classifier System for Data Mining

Data mining means a process of nontrivial extraction of hidden knowledge or potentially useful information from data in large databases. Data mining algorithm is a multi-disciplinary field of research; machine learning, statistics, and computer science all make a contribution. Different classification schemes can be used to categorize data mining methods based on the kinds of tasks to be implemented and the kinds of application classes to be utilized, and classification has been identified as an important task in the emerging field of data mining. Since classification is the basic element of human's way of thinking, it is a well-studied problem in a wide varietyof application. In this paper, we propose a classifier system based on genetic algorithm with robust property, and the proposed system is evaluated by applying it to nDmC problem related to classification task in data mining.
The Design and Implementation of Isotherm and Isohaline Forecast System using Temporal GIS

The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system that collects, stores, analyzes and processes geographic object data existing in space. The GIS is widely used in application fields related to geography such as city planning, land-register management, forest resources management, etc. The importance and necessity of the GIS have been well demonstrated, and therefore many studies on this system have been carried out. However, most of those studies have just treated geographic information as spatial information, but have not considered or have overlooked changes of spatial data dependent on time. For example, transportation information management and atmospheric phenomena forecast, have not exactly reflected the actual world which changes with the flow of time. In this thesis, a temporal GIS is established to effectively and precisely process information on space objects changing with time and a database is built up in reference to changes in water temperature and salinity. And the isotherm and isohaline forecast system implemented to support graphical tool.
Design and Implementation of an ERP System for Medium and Small Enterprises

The introduction of an ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) system for the competitive enterprise has been late because of a great cost. In this paper, we design and implement ERP application service as an alternative proposal of an ERP system for medium and small enterprises. Unlike most of previous works that show only the implementation of their ERP application, this approach provides the design model of an suitable environments for medium and small enterprises.
Development of Web-based Telemedicine using Satellite Internet Communication System

In general cases, the conventionl Internet connected to a terrestrial network is too slow to transmit large medical images. To overcome this low speed problem of the Internet, we have developed asymmetric satellite data communication system (ASDCS) as a fast satellite Internet communication method. The ASDCS uses a receive-only satellite link for dat delivery and a terrestrial network for control communication. The satellite communication link we implemented showed the very high-speed performance compared to the terrestrial link. Using ASDCS, the satellite Internet communication was 10-30 times faster than the conventional terrestrial Internet link. Also we have developed a Web-based Telemedicine system that can access every permitted server of hospital via the Internet. Java programming techniques were used to make our system and it can access and retrieve medical information and images through only public web browser such as Netscape TM without additional specific tools. To increase the transmitting speed of our Telemedicine system, JPEG method was used. In conclusion, we were able to develop a fast and public Telemedicine system using the proposed ASDCS and Web technology. ASDCS technology increased the speed of the conventional Internet and Web technology extended the scope of use for Telemedicine system from intrahospital to public use.
The class testing based on a dependence graph

The representation of a procedural program cannot be applied directly to object oriented program representation consisting of class, object, inheritance, and dynamic binding. Furthermore, preexisting program dependence represented the dependence among statements, but not among variables. That is, it could not solve the problem of which variables make an effect on given variables. Consequently, this study presents the method dependence model representing implementation level information including the dependence among variables in an object oriented program. I also propose implementation-based class testing technique based on the test adequacy criterion of an object-oriented program. Considering inter-data member dependences and a set of axioms for test data adequacy, it generates sequences of methods as test cases which satisfy a flow graph-based testing criterion. For a derived class testing, it considers inheritance relationship and the resuability of the testing information for its parent classes which verified the reduction of test cost through the experiment.
