Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 9~21
In theory, within ubiquitous learning environment, education is happening all around the student but the student may not even be conscious of the learning process. But, in this study, we consider the ubiquitous learning environment where PMP (Personal Multimedia Player) is being used for delivering the learning-contents. And the purpose of this study is to identify the problematic factors recognized by PMP users in u-learning environment. A need analysis was used to identify and evaluate needs of 74 PMP users as well non-users. Based on the interviews of participants, we give a brief summary results on motivation for using PMP, purchasing and operating costs, category of contents being used, dissatisfying and problematic factors with using PMP in u-learning environment. Therefore, we present six categories of factors preventing the u-learning with PMP from being diffused such as lacks of awareness, loss of confidence, side-effects, lacks of education and support, costs, and lacks of contents. In conclusion, we suggest a set of guidelines which might help remove these the resistance factors.

Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 23~34
The number of web service user is increasing steadily as web-based service is offered in various form. But, web service has a vulnerability such as SQL Injection, Parameter Injection and DoS attack. Therefore, it is required for us to develop Web IDS system and additionally to offer Rule-base intrusion detection/response mechanism against those attacks. However, existing Web IDS system didn't correspond properly on recent web attack mechanism because they didn't including suitable pre-processing procedure on huge web log data. Therfore, we propose an efficient web log pre-processing mechanism for enhancing rule based detection and improving the performance of web IDS base attack response system. Proposed algorithm provides both a field unit parsing and a duplicated string elimination procedure on web log data. And it is also possible for us to construct improved web IDS system.

Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 35~46
This paper defines a diagram showing the characteristics of service connections in SOA, and it designs the connection testing with the diagram. The detail steps of building test requirements in the test design phase are explained, and the steps are applied to two different enterprise cases as examples. The cases are real SOA system of real enterprises. Recently, many enterprises have been trying to reconfigure their system as SOA systems. However, these projects are hard to be applied to their mission-critical real systems, since there is few testing technique understanding SOA characteristics, One of the missing characteristics of SOA in testing is that SOA needs a layering systems between business processes and applications. This paper focuses on the layering system of SOA to solve the testing problem in SOA.

Yoon, Hyun-Nim ; Kim, Yang-Woo ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 47~58
Charts can propagate information more effectively by visualizing various types of information. Due to this reason, many web developers often use charts when they display information on the web. However, using a chart requires a special dedicated software to install and it is difficult to share the finished charts since they are usually in raster format. The raster format images are fixed in size, therefore, experience image distortion problem when their sizes are changed. In this paper, we propose a web-based chart generating system using CML(Chart Markup Language) to solve the current compatibility and sharing problems. The proposed chart generating system first analyzes XML, Text, or HTML documents to extract chart information in the documents, and then it converts collected chart information to CML. The converted CML documents are displayed on the web browser using a vector method. The vector method has an advantage of protecting its images from distortion even when image sizes are scaled. The CML, proposed in this paper, is a chart markup language based on XML for modeling charts Information. If CML is used for presenting a chart in a web, it makes easier to share and to convert the chart information.

Kim, Haeng-Kon ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 59~72
Computing systems in the modern era are expanding rapidly to include mobile-based businesses that make us of the various convergence distributed business process. This has lead to growing interest in the field of mobile embedded software development methodology, which has in turn lead to the proliferation of the embedded mobility. The use of CBD (Component Based Development) provides reusability, maintainability and portability, all of which are very important and focus issues to the business process. It also comes with the inherent productivity, quality and reliability of CBD. To make efficient use of CBD, though, clarified interface definitions for component integration are necessary. These definitions should be made up of collaborative hierarchical and horizontal architecture layers. Successful definitions should apply an effective framework made up of the architecture and process. In this paper, we describe an interface specification for small grained mobile embedded components(MEC) for the mobile embedded domain to meet maximum user requirements. We build and deploy the reconfigurable design patterns and components (in business domain categories) to make a component hierarchy and business logics for mobile embedded software. Proposed components specification plays a major role in development of the software for handling inconsistency in existing specification. It also includes plenty of specification information, using semantics and modeling based mechanisms to support business processes. We propose a development model of mobile embedded software using CBD for very complex and dynamic mobile business. We can apply it in a plug and play manner to develop the software. We verify that our framework supports very good productivity, quality and maintainability to meet the user's requirements in mobile business.

Yoon, Hoi-Jin ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 73~83
This paper proposes an implementation of an orchestration service of web services, which work as context aware applications in Ubiquitous Computing. The proposed method alms to decrease the cost of adapting to the context changes. UC requires the context adaptation more than any other computing environments, and it works based on networks of various heterogeneous platforms. Web services on SOA could be one of the solutions for the requirements. This paper proposes the way how to implement an orchestration service of SOA to handle the context adaptation while keeping the performance high. We develops an implementation model of orchestration services of web services, and the model decreases the number of code lines of the orchestration service. This paper also shows a simple empirical study, and it also analyzes two different method implementing the polymorphism, overloading and overriding.

Choi, Mi-Sook ; Lee, Jong-Suk ; Lee, Seo-Jeong ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 85~97
Recently, service-oriented systems have been issued by their properties of reducing software development time and effort by reusing functional service units. The reusability of services can effectively promote through loose coupling between services and loose coupling between services depends on component-based system. That is, the component-based system is designed by grouping the tightly coupled classes of the object-oriented system and the service-oriented system is designed by the component-based system. Therefore, to design the component-based system and service-oriented system efficiently, a metric to measure the coupling between classes accurately needs. In this paper, we propose a coupling metric between classes applying a structural property, a dynamic property, and the normalized value by 0-1. We prove the theoretical soundness of the proposed metric by the axioms of briand et al, and suggest the accuracy and practicality through a case study. We suggest the evaluation results of the proposed metric through a comparison with the conventional metrics.

Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 99~108
This paper proposes an image retrieval system which integrates metadata, contents, and emotions in textile images. First, the proposed system searches images using metadata. Among searched images, the system retrieves similar images based on color histogram, color sketch, and emotion histogram. To extract emotion features, this paper uses emotion colors which was proposed on 160 emotion words by H. Nagumo. To enhance the user's convenience, the proposed textile image retrieval system provides additional functions as like enlarging an image, viewing color histogram, viewing color sketch, and viewing repeated patterns.

Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 117~130
This paper proposes a stable and robust method to distinct the color similarity for clothes using the LBG algorithm under various light sources, Since the conventional methods, such as the histogram intersection and the accumulated histogram, are profoundly sensitive to the changing of light environments, the distinction of color similarity for the same cloth can be different due to the complicated light sources. To reduce the effects of the light sources, the properties of hue and saturation which consistently sustain the characteristic of the color under the various changes of light sources are analyzed to define the characteristic of the color distribution. In a two-dimensional space determined by the properties of hue and saturation, the LBG algorithm, a non-parametric clustering approach, is applied to examine the color distribution of images for each clothes. The color similarity of images is defined by the average of Euclidean distance between the mapping clusters which are calculated from the result of clustering of both images. To prove the stability of the proposed method, the results of the color similarity between our method and the traditional histogram analysis based methods are compared using a dozen of cloth examples that obtained under different light environments. Our method successively provides the classification between the same cloth image pair and the different cloth image pair and this classification of color similarity for clothe images obtains the 91.6% of success rate.

Seo, Jae-Wan ; Kim, Moon-Seong ; Cho, Sang-Hun ; Choo, Hyun-Seung ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 131~140
In this paper, we present a data dissemination protocol that guarantees energy-efficient data transmission and maximizes network lifetime. SPMS that outperforms the well-known protocol SPIN uses the shortest path to minimize the energy consumption. However, since it repeatedly uses the same path, maximizing the network lifetime is impossible. In this paper, we propose a protocol for data dissemination called the protocol Considering Between Energy and Distance (ConBED). It solves the network lifetime problem using the residual energy and the distance between nodes to determine a path for data dissemination. The simulation results show that ConBED guarantees energy-efficient transmission and increases the network lifetime by approximately 69% than that of SPMS.

Koo, In-Soo ; Pham, Thi Hong Chau ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 141~151
In the paper, we analyze the performance of random access channels in multi-service multi-user OFDMA systems. The resource of the random access channels in OFDMA systems are available sub-channels and PN-codes. For given available sub-channels and PN-codes,' we analyze the performance of the random access channels of OFDMA systems in terms of the access success probability, the blocking probability, the access delay and the throughput per each service class. Further, we find the feasible region of the access probability of each service class in which the allowable minimum access success probability, the allowable maximum blocking probability and the allowable maximum access delay are satisfied. The results also can be used to find proper region of the access probabilities of each service class for differentiated quality of service(QoS)s, and for the system operations in multi-service multi-user OFDMA systems.
Modifications of DCF Scheme to Alleviate Jitter Property in WLANs
Kang, Dong-Hun ; Seok, Seung-Joon ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 153~163
Almost literature has so far proposed the modifications to IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC protocol to improve system throughput and average delay. Jitter(variance in packet delays) is, however, considered as an important QoS parameter for real-time streaming service which is popularized increasingly. Unfortunately, legacy access protocol for WLAN can't support the jitter. This paper proposes two schemes modifying the DCF MAC protocol to reduce the average value of jitter for multimedia frames arrived at received nodes. The one scheme, referred to as DCW-DCF(Decreasing Contention Window-DCF), reduces CW(Contention Window) size by half whenever a transmitted frame collided against other frames and back-off happens. Also, it increase initial CW size according as the link utilization and the collision probability increase. The other scheme, referred to as D-DIFS(Differential-DIFS), assigns different values to DIFS. That is, the DIFS interval is deceased as the number of back-off for a frame increases. In this paper, the two schemes are evaluated through simulation using ns2 and simulation results show that the proposed schemes are effective for improving the jitter property of standard WLAN.
Routing Protocol for Hybrid Ad Hoc Network using Energy Prediction Model
Kim, Tae-Kyung ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 165~173
Hybrid ad hoc networks are integrated networks referred to Home Networks, Telematics and Sensor networks can offer various services. Specially, in ad hoc network where each node is responsible for forwarding neighbor nodes' data packets, it should net only reduce the overall energy consumption but also balance individual battery power. Unbalanced energy usage will result in earlier node failure in overloaded nodes. it leads to network partitioning and reduces network lifetime. Therefore, this paper studied the routing protocol considering efficiency of energy. The suggested algorithm can predict the status of energy in each node using the energy prediction model. This can reduce the overload of establishing route path and balance individual battery power. The suggested algorithm can reduce power consumption as well as increase network lifetime.
Performance Enhancement of Fast-Moving Object by Location Scheme in FMIP
Kim, Mi-Young ; Mun, Young-Song ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 175~183
Wi-Fi defines the procedure to search an AP, authenticate both station and AP, and associate the new BSS or ESS which enables the link layer handoff. One of the problems for hotspot service of Wi-Fi is "passing-object", Wi-Fi describes the messages exchanges between two neighboring APs in BSS or ESS. If the station passes through the neighboring APs before completing link-layer handoff, the path where the tunneled packets should be sent is lost. In this paper, we propose to integrate the positioning entity in a service domain to keep track the high-speed movement.
An Application-Level Fault Tolerant System For Synchronous Parallel Computation
Park, Pil-Seong ;
Journal of Internet Computing and Services, volume 9, issue 5, 2008, Pages 185~193
An MTBF(mean time between failures) of large scale parallel systems is known to be only an order of several hours, and large computations sometimes result in a waste of huge amount of CPU time, However. the MPI(Message Passing Interface), a de facto standard for message passing parallel programming, suggests no possibility to handle such a problem. In this paper, we propose an application-level fault tolerant computation system, purely on the basis of the current MPI standard without using any non-standard fault tolerant MPI library, that can be used for general scientific synchronous parallel computation.
