The Journal of The Institute of Internet, Broadcasting and Communication, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 1~10
Impulse Radio Ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) system employing the short pulse has the tolerable characteristics for the multipath environment. The corresponding transceiver with low power consumption can be simply implemented. On the other hand, in the receiver side, the precise channel estimation is required for the knowledge of essence in channel due to the short period of pulse. The estimated gains and delays in channel are used in the rake receiver. The resulting parameters we search have a strong influence on the performance in the entire system. We introduce that the essential parameters can be obtained more precisely through the preamble in receiver side for the channel estimation and related technologies are presented.

Multi-standard, multi-band, multi-service system to ensure a flexible interface between the SDR (Software Defined Radio) technology for the implementation of the Stability and Low-Power, Low-Calcualrion DDC (Digital Down Conversion) technology is essential. DDC technology consists of a digital channel filter. This is a typical digital filter because of the limited fisheries are vulnerable to overflow and rounding errors are drawbacks. In this paper, we overcome this disadvantage, we propose the structure of the DDC. The way WDF (Wave Digital Filter) Structural rounding error due to the structural resistance to noise. Therefore, This is the useful structure when the filter coefficients's word length is short. In addition, since IIR filters based on FIR filters based on the amount of computation is reduced because fewer than filter's tap. The proposed structure is used in DDC that CIC (Cascaded Integrator Comb) filter, WDF, IFOP (Interpolated Fourth-Order Polynomials) were analyzed with respect to, the results were confirmed by computer simulation.

The Journal of The Institute of Internet, Broadcasting and Communication, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 35~41
In this paper, an Android based ubiquitous interface for controlling service robots is presented. The robot server captures the images for the front view of the robot, makes a map of the environment and its position, produces a graphic image of its pose, and then transmits them to the Android client. The Android client displays them in the LCD panel and transfers control information obtained from touched buttons to the server. In the interface environment, we implement remote moving mode, autonomous moving mode, and remote operation mode for being used for versatile operability to the robot with limited screen of the smart phone. Experimental results show the implementation of the proposed interface in Android installed on Motoroi to control a service robot, and demonstrate its feasibility.

Hwang, Ki-Tae ;
The Journal of The Institute of Internet, Broadcasting and Communication, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 51~59
There have been proposed several movie recommendation algorithms based on Collaborative Filtering(CF). CF decides neighbors whose ratings are the most similar to each other and it predicts how well users will like new movies, based on ratings from neighbors. This paper proposes a new method to improve the result predicted by CF based on genres of the movies seen by users. The proposed method can be combined to the most of all existing CF algorithms. In this paper, a performance evaluation has been conducted between an existing simple CF algorithm and CF-Genre that is the proposed genre-based method added to the CF algorithm. The result shows that CF-Genre improves 3.3% in prediction performance over existing CF algorithms.

Korea has made a plan to allocate CH 14~CH 51 (470 MHz~698 MHz) for DTV transition. Therefore, It is a necessary to take account compatibility between DTV service and other potential services. This paper assumes that DTV service operates on CH 51(692 MHz~698 MHz) and IMT service operates on CH 52(698 MHz~704 MHz), and then analyzes compatibility between DTV service and IMT service with Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool(SEAMCAT). The interference probability from IMT service to DTV service and capacity loss of IMT service due to interference from DTV service is studied, respectively. For the simulation, four interference cases in four different scenarios are considered. With considering the depolarization factor, a guard band of 8 MHz is required in the case of between IMT service downlink(DL) and DTV service, in the case of between IMT service uplink(UL) and DTV service, a guard band of 6 MHz is needed for the worst case of urban scenario on consideration of more then 15 dB increase of IMT system base station(BS) receiver blocking level.

Korea has made a plan to allocate CH 14~CH 51 (470 MHz~698 MHz) for DTV. This paper assumes that DTV operates on CH 51 (692 MHz~698 MHz) and CDMA system operates on CH 52 (698 MHz~704 MHz) in spare band. Minimum Coupling Loss (MCL) method to get protection distance and Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) to get guard band through 5 % interference probability are used. The protection distance is required to be 665.67 km at close frequency offset of 698.625 MHz between DTV transmitter and CDMA Base Station (BS) receiver. The required guard band between DTV transmitter and CDMA Mobile Station (MS) receiver is 5 MHz for the worst case of rural environment. There is no serious impact between CDMA MS transmitter and DTV receiver. The required guard band between CDMA BS transmitter and DTV receiver is 6.25 MHz for the worst case of urban environment. The analysis results may offer a reference and be helpful for considering interference between DTV and other communication systems.

With the rapid progress of wireless technologies today, mobile terminals with multiple access interfaces are emerging. In recent years, WLAN (Wireless Local Area Networks) has become the premier choice for many homes and enterprises. WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) has also emerged as the wireless standard that aims to deliver data over long distances. Therefore, it is important to explore efficient integration methods for delivering multimedia data between heterogeneous wireless networks. In this paper, we developed the simulation models and environments for the mobile multihomed node that has both WiMAX and WLAN interfaces and can move around in both networks by using mobile IP. In order to verify the developed models, we designed and constructed several simulation scenarios, e.g. movement in WiMAX/WLAN, group mobility, MANET, and nested MIP under the various traffic environments such as oneway or bothway UDP packets, FTP traffic, and voice with SIP protocol. The simulation results show that the developed models are useful for mobility studies in various integrated wireless networks.

The Journal of The Institute of Internet, Broadcasting and Communication, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 131~137
UMSN (Ubiquitous Medical Sensor Network) is being used in u-Healthcare system of various medical facilities to identify objects and get information from sensors in real-time. RFID using radio frequency determines objects using Reader, which reads Tags attached to patients. However, there is a security vulnerability wherein Tag send its ID to illegal Reader because Tags always response to Readers request regarding of its Tag ID. In this paper, we propose Tag ID Classification Scheme to reduce Back-end Server traffic that caused by requests to authenticate between Readers and Tags that are attached to medical devices, patients, and sensors; To reduce security threats like eavesdropping and spoofing that sometimes occurred during authentication procedure. The proposed scheme specifies the patient category as a group based on patients Tag ID string. Only allowed Reader can perform authentication procedure with Back-end Server. As a result, we can reduce Back-end Server traffic and security threats.

The Journal of The Institute of Internet, Broadcasting and Communication, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 145~152
With the recent development of the ubiquitous computing technology, there are increasing interest and research in technologies such as sensors and RFID related to information recognition and location positioning in various ubiquitous fields. Especially, RTLS(Real-Time Locating Services) dealing with spatio-temporal data is emerging as a promising technology. For these reasons, the ISO/IEC published the RTLS standard specification for compatibility and interoperability in RTLS. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems for efficiently managing and searching the incoming Spatio-temporal data stream of moving objects. Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems's spatio-temporal middleware maintains interoperability among heterogeneous devices and guarantees data integrity in query processing through real time processing of unceasing spatio-temporal data streams and two way synchronization of spatio-temporal DBMSs. Web Server uses the SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) message between client and server for interoperability and translates client's SOAP message into CQL(Continuous Query Language) of the spatio-temporal middleware. Finally, this thesis proved the utility of the system by applying the spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems to a real-time Locating Services.
