Annual Average Daily Traffic Estimation using Co-kriging

Annual average daily traffic (AADT) serves the important basic data in transportation sector. Despite of its importance, AADT is estimated through permanent traffic counts (PTC) at limited locations because of constraints in budget and so on. At most of locations, AADT is estimated using short-term traffic counts (STC). Though many studies have been carried out at home and abroad in an effort to enhance the accuracy of AADT estimate, the method to simplify average STC data has been adopted because of application difficulty. A typical model for estimating AADT is an adjustment factor application model which applies the monthly or weekly adjustment factors at PTC points (or group) with similar traffic pattern. But this model has the limit in determining the PTC points (or group) with similar traffic pattern with STC. Because STC represents usually 24-hour or 48-hour data, it's difficult to forecast a 365-day traffic variation. In order to improve the accuracy of traffic volume prediction, this study used the geostatistical approach called co-kriging and according to their reports. To compare results, using 3 methods : using adjustment factor in same section(method 1), using grouping method to apply adjustment factor(method 2), cokriging model using previous year's traffic data which is in a high spatial correlation with traffic volume data as a secondary variable. This study deals with estimating AADT considering time and space so AADT estimation is more reliable comparing other research.
Improvement of A Preprocessing of Archived Traffic Data Collected by Expressway Vehicle Detection System

While the vehicle detector is collected from a variety of information was mainly used as a real-time data. Recently scheme of application for archived traffic data has become increasingly important. In this background, this research were conducted on the improvement of the preprocessing for archived traffic data application. The purpose of improving specific preprocessing was reflect transportation phenomena by traffic data. As evaluation result, improvement preprocessing was close to the actual value than exist preprocessing.
UWB RADAR based Modified Adaptive CFAR Algorithm for improved safety of Personal Rapid Transit

Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) is a new unmanned transportation system using electricity. The purpose of the PRT is relieving the congestion of city traffic and connecting between inner city and airport, high-speed railroad. PRT requires to develop devices for the guarantee of safety and reliability. PRT as the mean of rail transportation must be equipped with control system for front rail sensing. Ultra Wide Band(UWB) radar system is suitable for PRT's detection because it has the advantage of low power consumption, low interference and high resolution. In this paper, an improved adaptive Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) algorithm is proposed and studied in various noise environments. The proposed algorithm improves performance in various noise environments compared to the Mean Level CFAR algorithms and other adaptive CFAR algorithms.
Optimal Location of Expressway Patrol Vehicle Stations Using Maximum Covering and Weighted p-Center Problems

This paper aims to determine the optimal location of expressway patrol vehicle stations that minimizes additional troubles caused by the delay of crash treatments. To do this, we formulate a maximum covering problem and a p-center problem weighted by crash frequency, using the shortest distance as the criteria for allocating service district, and we employ the Lagrangian relaxation algorithm to solve the former and Daskin's heuristic algorithm to solve the latter, respectively. Based on crash data of Korean expressways, the results from the proposed models are compared with the current location of patrol vehicle stations by using several indices as the level of service for crash treatment, such as maximum crash-weighted distance, average crash-weighted distance, and average access distance. The results show that the proposed models improve average access distance and time by about 10km and 10min, respectively. When allocation for service district is changed only with the fixed current location, the level of service can be also improved. The models and results proposed in this paper can contribute to improving the level of service for crash treatment on expressways. They can also provide the theoretical basis on the location decision for other various emergency facilities, and the allocation decision for floating service districts according to time-period crash data.
Implementation of Sensor Controller and Monitering System Using Film Type

Leak detection, the system is controlled by humanity's precious water resources, prepare for natural disasters and prevent damage to buildings and various industrial facilities. Especially because it causes serious environmental pollution, chemicals or oil spills, leak detection of various liquid(oil, water), the point at which the liquid leak is detected early on, and minimize environmental pollution, prevent damage of the equipment due to the leak, and the country's precious water resources to be used safely. In this paper, we solve these problems by using specialized film sensor, any person who is not a skilled technician, equipment or walls anywhere can be easily installed. also reduce unnecessary circuit, If film sensor is connected to operate, have a big competitive price, the detection of liquid and the surrounding environment according to, the sensor film that can set the sensitivity control, and monitoring system was implemented.
Branch Loop Antenna for the Mobile Handset

It's introduced a BLA(Branch Loop Antenna) that is modified from conventional loop, and verified antenna performances for applying to mobile handset. Branch elements are added to a rectangular loop, and low resonance is obtained by the length of the branch line. When resonance frequency of a single loop is 2.5GHz, BLA had near 900 MHz under the same antenna size. Multiple resonances are established by the locations of branch connection and their lengths. By the implementation and measurement for the dual band BLA, it's showed 75MHz -10dB bandwidth and -3.03~-1.46dBi average gains with 49.73~71.39% efficiencies at GSM900 band, and 90MHz -6dB bandwidth and -8.14~-2.17dBi average gains with 15.34~60.62% efficiencies at DCS1900 band. And H-plane radiation patterns were omni-directional. These performances are good for the mobile handset antenna.
Improving the QoS using the Modulation and Coding Selection scheme by temperature characteristic of LED in the LED-ID system

This paper introduces the improvement of QoS to compensate the decreasing LED performance by temperature characteristic in the LED-ID communication system. LED does not only use as a lighting device, but also uses as a communication device. The conventional system is transmitted by RGB of LED following the mixture color ratio, which determined the color of lighting, and the BER performance of each RGB signals. However, when the LED used consistently, it has occurred the heat temperature. As a result, LED is degraded the performance by increased temperature each device. To solve this problem, we proposed the adaptive modulation and coding scheme by temperature of device to improve the performance of system and satisfied the QoS in the LED-ID system.
A Study on Optical Correlation for Indoor Positioning based LED-ID

In this paper, We proposed a Optical Correlation for indoor positioning based LED-ID. The proposed Optical Correlation has a advantage to low-interference between spread code number sequences and LED-ID. it is applied a spread code to reduce the interference with additional information based LED-ID. The additional information is enable to detect in transmitted signal using auto correlation. Also we designed and implemented the Optical Correlation for clearly detecting the additional information. Simulations were performed to confirm the performance of BER and the power of additional information. Optical Correlation simulator to indoor positioning based LED-ID was implemented to prove a usefulness.
Music Search Algorithm for Automotive Infotainment System

In this paper, we propose a music search algorithm for automotive infotainment system. The proposed method extracts fingerprints using the high peaks based on log-spectrum of the music signal, and the extracted music fingerprints store in cloud server applying a hash value. In the cloud server, the most similar music is retrieved by comparing the user's query music with the fingerprints stored in hash table of cloud server. To evaluate the performance of the proposed music search algorithm, we measure an accuracy of the retrieved results according to various length of the query music and measure a retrieval time according to the number of stored music database in hash table.
Histogram Bin Number Selection Method Robust to the Variations of Channel Occupancy for Cross Entropy

Most of the traditional spectrum sensing methods consider only the current detected data sets of Primary User (PU). However previous state of PU is a kind of conditional probability that strengthens the reliability of the detector. Therefore, in the cross entropy spectrum sensing method, relationship of the previous and current spectrum sensing is considered to detect PU signal more effectively. But these cross entropy spectrum sensing methods only consider the ideal system. In other words, PU always occupy the channel during the same period. However, PU can occupy the channel either for a longer or a shorter period than the ideal case in the real system. For this reason, the spectrum sensing performance can be varied. In this paper, we propose the method that can maintain the performance of spectrum sensing in the real system and we confirm the results with the help of simulation.
Mobility and Safety Evaluation Methodology for the Locations of Hi-PASS Lanes Using a Microscopic Traffic Simulation Tool

The number of Hi-Pass lanes became 793 lanes at 316 expressway tollgates in 2011 due to the increase in the Hi-Pass use. In spite of the increase in the number of Hi-Pass lanes, there have been increased potential risks in tollgates where vehicles using a Hi-Pass lane must weave with other vehicles using a TCS lane. Therefore, there is a need for study on the safety in tollgates. To this end, this study aims at developing a methodology to evaluate the performance measures of diverse location countermeasures of Hi-Pass lanes in an efficient and systematic way. This study measured the mobility, safety and the convenience of installation and operation of Hi-Pass lanes using a microscopic traffic simulation tool, the surrogate safety assessment model and survey. In addition, this study aggregated the above three performance indexes using weight factors estimated using the AHP technique. For the test site, Dongsuwon interchange was selected. After building the microscopic traffic simulation model for the test site, the location countermeasures of Hi-Pass lanes applicable to the test site were compared with each other in terms of the mobility, safety and installing and operating convenience. As a result, there has been no apparent difference in mobility index based on delays. However, the countermeasures where Hi-Pass lanes are located in inside lanes generally showed better safety performance based on the number of conflicts. In addition, countermeasures with neighboring Hi-Pass lanes were favorable in terms of the safety and the convenience of installation and operation. The methodology proposed in this study was found to be useful to support decision makings by providing critical and quantitative information regarding the mobility, safety and the convenience of installation and operation.
The Hybrid Road Lighting Control System Design using Solar-Light Generation

In this paper we proposed the design of the hybrid road lighting control system using solar-light generation. The proposed hybrid road lighting control system be power offer through hybrid controller using Solar-Light Generation, and it is designed so that it can control lighting up. To control supply of continuous power when during power shortages. And the gateway be transmit control command using zigbee to road lighting to ensure that automatic lighting control on human sensing. In this case, the gateway is apply the lighting control algorithm that decisions to the status of the system by a pre-set time schedule and be able to operate. In this paper, the proposed efficiency analysis results of a hybrid road lighting control system was consumed power of 129.6W per day, 3.8KW per month, 47.3KW per annual. As a result, it were able to increase the energy efficiency than existing lighting control system by reduce power consumption of 76.2% and the electricity prices of 76.8%.
A case study on optimal location modeling of battery swapping & charging facility for the electric bus system

This paper propose an efficient algorithm for selecting electric bus charging facility location. In nature, the optimal charging facility location problem is similar to Set Covering Problem. Set Covering Problem is the problem of covering all the rows of an
matrix of ones and zeros by a subset of columns with a minimal cost. It has many practical applications of modeling of real world problems. The Set Covering Problem has been proven to be NP-Complete. In order to overcome the computational complexity involved in seeking optimal solutions, this paper present an enhanced greedy algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm. In this paper, we apply the developed algorithm to Seoul's public bus system.
Estimation of Expressway O/D Matrices from TCS data by Using Video Survey Data for Vehicle Classification: Focused on Truck

Truck demand analysis based on TCS data has limitation in that TCS data can not provide truck O/D data for each type of truck vehicle. This study conducted video survey for classifying truck vehicle types. By using TCS data and vehicle ratio by region/cities type, truck O/D data on expressway were estimated. It was found that average travel distances of small truck, medium truck and large truck were 52km/veh, 56km/veh and 97km/veh, respectively by analysing truck O/D data estimated in this study. The reliability analysis showed that check points where error rate is lower than 30% comprise of 87.3%. It is considered that estimated O/D data by truck vehicle types would be useful for the analysis of truck demand of expressway.
A Study on Users' Travel Behavior Analysis of Transit Transfer

This study developed the transit transfer mode choice model aimed Daegu transit users using multinomial logit model. Dependent variables of estimating multinomial logit model were transit transfer modes such as bus to bus, bus to subway, subway to subway, bus to others, and subway to others, and explanatory variables which affect transit transfer mode choice were sex, age, occupation, handicap, transfer area, purpose of travel and travel time. Also probability regarding explanatory variables was estimated using multinomial logit model and limit marginal analysis was carried out according to explanatory variables(cost, time). In the results, indicating goodness of fit is very reasonable as
=0.354. According to the result of marginal analysis for the selection of probability, when travel time is increased, users of bus to bus and bus to subway prefer to use subway to subway. Furthermore users of bus to bus and bus to subway prefer to use bus to others and subway to others when travel cost is increased in the result of marginal analysis for the selection of probability.
