A Platform Conception of Road Information Telecommunication System for Call & Response Service

In this paper, we described about core technologies required for the seamless service implementation and the communication system structure conceiving required for call & response services in order that the real-time traffic information service is consecutively provided to the vehicle moving at high speed. The SMART highway service is the information communication environment build-up concept which the real-time C&R service is comprised of the vehicle moving with 160km/h above. It was possible in case of being the low speed car in the DSRC system structure. However, there is a limit in the high speed environment as the DSRC system like a convention. In this paper, we proposed the structure of fitting for the SMART highway environment using the hand-over technique compositing the base station and several repeaters of DSRC system.
Evaluation of the Estimate Algorithms for Link Travel Time from GPS Probe Data

This study analyzed errors of data received from GPS which showed different reception characteristics based on chipset at poor reception area. The digital map made from National Police Agency shows 4% errors of length on the average. The comparison of three different algorithms - Average Spot Speed, Cumulative Travel Length from GPS with Actual Travel Time, Travel Length from Digital Map with Actual Travel Time have been conducted to find significant difference estimating travel time from GPS Data. The algorithm to estimate travel time from travel length and travel time showed the most reliable results from the others.
Node-Link Development for Pedestrian Navigation System

A pedestrian navigation system, an information delivery server, and a program for naturally guiding (such as speech-guiding) the user of a portable terminal at an intersection. An information delivery server comprises a map database containing data such as nodes including paths constituting intersections, links, and costs of the links. The node-link structure is the most important part in pedestrian navigation system. Functional requirements for the road map database vary in different navigation phases. though there are various road network models, their traditional node-link structures, unfortunately, do not solve the problem well. This paper proposes a node-link structure for pedestrian navigation system. The network topological structure in pedestrianl network is presented, which accords with the practical walking habit better than traditional way treating the entire road network.
Development of Tripwire Vehicle Detection System Using Spectrum Analysis

This research intended to study a vehicle detection method for traffic volume, speed, stoping, parking activity, etc. using real time image processing and to propose the more accurate, environment adaptive image processing algorithm. The new method was compared with an existing commercialized image processing system, 'A' Product, for performance reliability tests. Also, the new method improved and developed the comparative advantage image processing algorithm. With regard to the test results, the algorithm over-counted one more vehicle, while 'A' product missed four vehicles during the test period. The first test results were used to improve the performance of this algorithm, and it's performance was improved though the second test in various and complicated traffic environment to yield superior performance.
Measurement of Travel Time Using Sequence Pattern of Vehicles

In this paper, we propose the regional travel time measurement algorithm using the sequence pattern matching to the type of vehicles between the origin of the region and the end of the region, that could be able to overcome the limit of conventional method such as Probe Car Method or AVI Method by License Plate Recognition. This algorithm recognizes the vehicles as a sequence group with a definite length, and measures the regional travel time by searching the sequence of the origin which is the most highly similar to the sequence of the end. According to the assumption of similarity cost function, there are proposed three types of algorithm, and it will be able to estimate the average travel time that is the most adequate to the information providing period by eliminating the abnormal value caused by inflow and outflow of vehicles. In the result of computer simulation by the length of region, the number of passing cars, the length of sequence, and the average maximum error rate are measured within 3.46%, which means that this algorithm is verified for its superior performance.
A Development of a Automatic Detection Program for Traffic Conflicts

To increase road safety at blackspots, it is needed to develop a new method that can process before accident occurrence. Accident situation could result from traffic conflict. Traffic conflict decision technique has an advantage that can acquire and analyze data in time and confined space that is less through investigation. Therefore, traffic conflict technique is highly expected to be used in many application of road safety. This study developed traffic conflict decision program that can analyze and process from signalized intersection image. Program consists of the following functional modules: an image input module that acquires images from the CCTV camera, a Save-to-Buffer module which stores the entered images by differentiating them into background images, current images, difference images, segmentation images, and a conflict detection module which displays the processed results. The program was developed using LabVIEW 8.5 (a graphic language) and the VISION module library.
A Study on Introduction of Bike Exclusive Signal Focused on Traffic Condition

The bikes are conflicted with the cars and the pedestrian at the intersection and the road with the bike crossing. To establish the bike signal at this section is one method to solve this conflict. According to the survey for the bike road status and the biker's characters which are crossing the road at the intersection, the bike crossing are established with beside the pedestrian crossing and most of the bikers are crossing the street by the pedestrian signal. Also, the bike queue which is waiting the signal change at the stop line was cleared before the closing the pedestrian signal. Considering the result of this survey, TOUCAN crossing signal type in England for bike signal at the place where the bike crossing are established with beside the pedestrian crossing, in which bike rider and pedestrian can cross by the pedestrian signal operation, is suggested. However, at the place where the bike crossing is apart from the pedestrian crossing, the bike signal which is connected to the vehicle signal is suggested. All these types of bike signals can be accepted for the present bike crossing equipments and the biker's characters and be adapted to the police standard traffic signal controller by adjusting the signal time only without any function change.
Implementation of Chip and Algorithm of a Speech Enhancement for an Automatic Speech Recognition Applied to Telematics Device

This paper presents an algorithm of a single chip acoustic speech enhancement for telematics device. The algorithm consists of two stages, i.e. noise reduction and echo cancellation. An adaptive filter based on cross spectral estimation is used to cancel echo. The external background noise is eliminated and the clear speech is estimated by using MMSE log-spectral magnitude estimation. To be suitable for use in consumer electronics, we also design a low cost, high speed and flexible hardware architecture. The performance of the proposed speech enhancement algorithms were measured both by the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and recognition accuracy of an automatic speech recognition(ASR) and yields better results compared with the conventional methods.
A Study on the Characteristic Analysis of Implemented Baseband AIN MIM Capacitor for Wireless PANs & Mobile Communication

The micro capacitors are passive elements necessary to electronic circuits and wireless portable PAN(personal area network) and Mobile Communications device modules in the baseband circuits in combination with another passive and active devices. As capacitance is proportionally increased with dielectric constant and electrode areas, in addition, inversely decreased the thickness of the dielectric material, thus thin film capacitors are generally seen as a preferable means to achieve high performance and thin film capacitors are used in a variety of functional circuit devices. In this paper, propose dielectric material as AIN(Aluminium nitride) to make micro thin film capacitor, and this capacitor has the MIM(metal-insulator-metal) structure. AIN thin films are widespread applied because they had more excellent properties such as chemical stability, high thermal conductivity, electrical isolation and so on. In addition, AIN films show low frequency response for baseband signal ranges, I-V and C-V electrical characterization of a thin film micro capacitor. The above experimental test and estimated results demonstrate that the thin film capacitor has sufficient and efficient functional performance to be the baseband range frequency of general electronics circuit and passive device applications.
A Study on a Multi Location Awareness Base on CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum)

In this paper, we proposed and designed the protocol for energy efficiency and the center of data aiming at the design of a Multi Location Awareness System that recognizes a shadow site in parking and tunnel, which stands on the basis of CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum) method using ISM Band of IEEE 802.15.4a that aware close location with wireless RF only. As a result of the protocol measurement, it displays the observation errors of less than 15cm, the data error rate of less than 5%, and can implement the Multi Location Awareness System with maximum length of life for 13.5 days using battery of 3V(1500 mAh).
A Study on the OFDM System Using Multi-Block SDM

Improving the transmission rates of multi-media delivery, such as moving pictures and internet services, has become increasingly important in modern society. To satisfy such high data rate requirements, the MIMO technique, which has the capacity to transmit large amounts of data using limited frequency resources, was developed. The Space Division Multiplexing (SDM) system is one of the MIMO techniques to be able to improve the transmission capacity. However, it is unable to achieve diversity gain because of interference due to the use of multiple antennas. In this paper, an SDM system that utilizes a Multi-Block method as an advanced transmission technique in a wireless communication system to obtain diversity gain is proposed and discussed fur the performance of the proposed system.
A Study on the Relation Between Frequency Diversity and Inter Code Interference in the Multi-rate MC-CDMA system

The channel parameters such as RMS delay spread and Doppler frequency have an effect on performance of system. This paper investigates the effect between the Inter-Code Interference (ICI) and the frequency diversity gain in the multi-rate MC-CDMA system. The multi-rate MC-CDMA system has achieved the more variable data rate than the MC-CDMA and moreover it has the better performance than the OFDMA system, because it has achieved the frquency diversity gain. However, the frequency diversity gain and ICI have a trade-off relationship by using the spreading code. Therefore, we have improved the system performance by efficient choice of system parameters. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the frequency diversify gain and the ICI effect, we perform simulations by altering the Doppler frequency and RMS delay spread.
Study on Subway Emergency System Based on Wireless Sensor Network

Wireless sensor network-related application system can perform functions such as environmental pollution monitoring, building control, home automation in future. In this paper, we present wireless sensor network based system for subway station in order to reduce the damage of the people and the subway station due to fire. Sensor nodes in this system can sense temperature, illumination, smoke, and human body in real time and detect the accident in the subway station. These real-time sensing and wireless networking minimize casualties and damage to property.
Study on the Conformance Testing of Data Exchange between Transport Information Center and Terminal Equipment

Recently, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) has been actively developed and built since the Transportation System Efficiency Promotion Act was enacted. However, since mutual connection among transportation information systems was not considered, the integration of transportation information services did not occur. Accordingly, the Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs established and announced the technical standard on ITS. In this study, the conformance testing of the transportation information and communication system interface standard on data exchange between the Transportation Information Center and terminals was researched The test items were categorized as data request tests and data providing tests by analyzing the communication procedures specified in the standard. A detail testing scenario was created for each item. The test assessment was established based on the conformance of data exchange procedures and the accuracy of data packet messages. Under the established technical standard, the number of times that tests should be performed was thought set to 30 and the success rate was set to 95%. The purpose of this study is to help the ITS of Korea perform the integrated management of transportation information by researching methods for conformance testing on the technical standard on ITS.
A Study on Social Welfare Reflecting Road Maintenance Cost: the Case of Cheonan

The aim of this paper is to research the changes of social welfare by internalizing external cost, especially the maintenance cost. Main target of this paper is the Cheonan
Nonsan Line, where private capital highway, national highway and local road are competing against each other. Considering the realistic difficulties in applying the First Best pricing, this paper applied the Second Best pricing, applying the maintenance cost, in lieu of the already mentioned. The demand functions of the toll roads were built through regression analysis. By reflecting the maintenance cost to the toll fee, It was able to confirm the variation of social welfare deriving from the traffic assign change but also the aspects of toll revenue at the same time. Result of applying the Second Best pricing shows merely a small change in social welfare. However, in the aspect of finance, it is analyzed that there will be about 13 billion won worth of financial effectiveness which will contribute to the reduction of the national financial support.
A Study on the Emergency Support System for Disabled and Aged People

The disabled and elderly people have a wide variety of functional impairments. By disability and elderly user group definition identification of users needs and specification of emergency support system were studied. Existing technologies including location navigation and information exchange devise and communication systems were analyzed to design proper integrated system for emergency situations. There are two types of services considered in the project: assisted living services(ALS) including health and emergency needs and assisted mobility services(AMS) with transportation needs. To develop emergency support system, functional identification and requirements was studied through the analysis of existing emergency system and organization. The 4-step emergency management scheme was developed to preactive emergency service which include emergency detection identification, response and follow-up steps.
A Study on Synthetic OD Estimation Model based on Partial Traffic Volumes and User-Equilibrium Information

This research addresses the problem of estimating Origin-Destination (O-D) trip matrices from link volume counts, a set of unobserved link volumes and information of user equilibrium flows in transportation networks. A heuristic algorithm for estimating unobserved link flows is derived, which provides volume estimates that are approximately consistent with both observed flows and an assumption of user equilibrium conditions. These estimated link volumes improve the constraints associated with the synthetic OD estimation model, providing improved solution search procedure. Model performance is tracked in terms of the root mean square errors (RMSE) in predicted travel demands, and where appropriate, predicted linked volumes. These results indicate that the new model substantially outperforms existing approaches to estimating user-equilibrium based synthetic O-D matrices.
