The Development and Application of Bus Bunching Indices for Bus Service Improvement

As bus is realized by economical, environmental transportation that is available mass transport than car, various policy for improvement of services is achieved. As innovative public transportation systems like BMS (Bus Management System) have established, it is possible to manage bus service efficiently. However, the present bus service management system mainly focuses on enhancing service reliability represented by schedule adherence index. This study discusses the necessity of a special management for bus bunching phenomena at stops, and develops two kinds of bus bunching indices based on the Number of Berth and the Average Bus Arrival Rate. The bus bunching indices were measured by utilizing the bus operational information from BMS at the Seoul TOPIS(Transportation & Information Service). In order to evaluate the sensitivity of the Indices, the indices were applied to two different bus groups: buses on exclusive bus median lane, and regular (shared) lanes. As analysis result, is bunching as is near in downtown and is bunching to peak time morning than the afternoon. Compared with the schedule adherence index, the suggested indices were proved as an efficient complementary indices in the evaluation of the bus operational performance. The results of index comparison between exclusive bus median lane and shared lanes can promote the expansion of exclusive bus median lane. Moreover, it can also be used as a reference in deciding bus station scale including the Number of Berth and the route adjustment plan.
Measuring a Range of Information Dissemination in a Traffic Information System Based on a Vehicular ad hoc Network

Recent wireless communication technologies are envisioned as an innovative alternative to solve transportation problems. On ad hoc networks, as a wireless communication technology, nodes can communicate data without any infrastructure. In particular, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), a specific ad hoc network applied to vehicles, enable vehicles equipped with a communication device to form decentralized traffic information systems in which vehicles share traffic information they experienced. This study investigated traffic information dissemination in a VANET-based traffic information system. For this study, an integrated transportation and communications simulation framework was developed, and experiments were conducted with real highway networks and traffic demands. The results showed that it took 3 minutes in the low traffic density situations (10 vehicle/lane.km) and 43 seconds in the high traffic density condition (40 vehicle/lane.km) to deliver traffic information of 5km away with 10% market penetration rate. In uncongested traffic conditions, information seems to be disseminated via equipped vehicles in the opposite direction. In congested traffic conditions, the sufficient availability of equipped vehicles traveling in the same direction reduces the chance to use vehicles in the opposing direction even though it is still possible.

The travel speed collected by the prove-car equipped with the GPS has the problems, which are the data's stability and finding out the representative travel speed, by the influence of the traffic signal and etc. at the interrupted traffic. . Both methods show the low removal rate at the dawn time when the traffic is inactivity, on the other hand the remove rate is high during the daytime. However, both methods have the problem such that the threshold level for removing the outlier data was established at the low bound in the case as good as the statistics model. Therefore, it is required for the experience calibration.
Design of a Compact Broad Band-pass Filter Using Parallel Coupling

In order to organize the Intelligent Transport System(ITS) as a communication equipment, the satellite and wireless system demand broadband characteristics for collecting information from the wide road. Band-pass filters (BPF) or broad BPFs used in such communication system are required for broadband characteristics. This paper presents a design of such broad BPF which can be used in the system. Designed BPF which was difficult to get broadband characteristics after realization, become possible to realize filter with broad bandwidth and compact structure using parallel coupled line. The designed filter achieved the insertion losses improved by 0.4 dB and the return losses improved by 17.4 dB respectively with 60% of bandwidth at the 5.8 GHz of the center frequency, respectively.

In this paper, the narrow band-pass filter with compact-size using the
open stubs is proposed. The filter size is reduced by realization of transmission line at second harmonics and at the same time the power can be transferred to the output by using the fundamental wave generated in the resonator and the transmission line in which the impedance mismatch technique is adopted. Thus, the proposed filter can be reduced to half-length of horizontal transmission line than the conventional one. This study provides to car driver with car exhaust gas and sensor information which are car trouble code in engine and many sensors when the car has some problems. This is to provide car manager with many information of car sensors when we go to vehicle maintenance. For example, information of engine RPM, fuel system, intake air temperature, air flow sensors and oxygen sensors can provide to owner or garage, and also add to multimedia system for mp3 files and video files. This system consists of embedded linux system of low power while driving the car which uses OBD-II protocols and zigbee communication interface from CAN communication of car system to self-diagnosis embedded system of car. Finally, low power embedded system has a lot of application and OBD-II protocols for embedded linux system and CAN communication which get sensor informations of car control sensor system while driving the car.
Shark Antenna for Vehicle TDMB and GPS Receiver

In this paper, a folded helical monopole antenna for TDMB receiving and a trapezoidal fractal microstrip patch antenna for GPS were designed and fabricated for the vehicle shark antenna. To minimize null which is generating toward antenna axis direction and to receive both vertical polarization and horizontal polarization for TDMB antenna, we fold 90 degree helical monopole element. GPS antenna to get wide bandwidth and gain improvement was designed an air substrate trapezoidal microstrip patch antenna. Fabricated TDMB and GPS antenna were measured for S11 and radiation pattern, and compared with a commercialized antenna. TDMB antenna shows 3 dB higher antenna gain and receiving signal strength than the commercial one. GPS antenna shows the gain of 4.31 dBi at the resonant frequency, which is
higher gain over whole operating band and 135MHz wide bandwidth at 2:1 VSWR than the conventional ceramic antenna.

Performance Comparison of ISO / IEC 18000-3 ASK and PJM Mode

This paper presents comparison of 18000-3 ASK and PJM mode RFID in terms of reading speed. This is accomplished by counting the occurrences of a few representative blocks which constitute the reader / tag interactions for each mode. To apply FS (frame slotted)-aloha protocol, four Q-algorithms, which are a Q-algorithm suggested in the standard document, a fixed Q-algorithm, a minimum Q-algorithm and the number of tag dependent Q-algorithm, are used. Through some simulations, we present the reading speed of each mode with respect to the Q-algorithm and the comparison of the reading speed between the two modes for each Q-algorithms.
Minimization Method of Data Collection Delay Time for Bus Information System

In this study, data collection delay time generated in bus information system is analysed and improvement on system reliability by minimizing the delay time is suggested. To minimize the data collection delay time (call setup time), factors on data collection phase are analyzed. Each connecting time that it occurs from wireless communication during data collection phase, is selected as a main effective variable and a model for selecting an optimum communication point to minimize the effect of data delay time by each connecting time is suggested. In this model, minimization of the point between the time carrying out wireless communication and vehicle moving time, is calculated and the difference between the bus arrival time and information delivered time to the passenger is reduced. The test results for the proposed model in BIS using a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) communication show that delay time in real system operation has been improved. The minimum data collection delay time based on optimal communication position leads to the better reliability for Bus Information System. This study can be applied to the selection of optimal communication position and detection position instead of empirical methods.
Implementation of Image Transmission System in Ad-Hoc Network Using AODV Routing Protocol

Ad-hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile hosts forming a temporary network without the aid of any centralized administration or reliable support services such as wired network and base stations. Recently, Ad-hoc networks are evolving to support multimedia contents according to expansion of ad hoc multi-hop communication system. Wireless ad-hoc network is different from the conventional wired network by frequent changes in network topology, number of routers and resources, there are a number of problems in applying conventional routing protocol to ad-hoc network. The AODV routing protocol is proposed for mobile node in ad-hoc networks. AODV protocol that provides to guarantee QoS for data transmission in ad hoc networks that link break frequently occurs. In this paper, AODV routing protocol based NDIS(Network Driver Interface Specification) is implemented. We design high performance image transmission that can operate with software(AODV) for ad-hoc networks without degradation. and verify operation of AODV routing protocol on the test bed.
Improved Weighted-Collaborative Spectrum Sensing Scheme Using Clustering in the Cognitive Radio System

In this paper, we introduce clustering scheme to calculate probability of detection which is practically required for conventional weighted-collaborative sensing technique. We also propose an improved weighted-collaborative spectrum sensing scheme using new weight generation algorithm to achieve better performance in Cognitive Radio systems. We calculate Pd in each cluster which is a CR users group with similar channel situation. New weight factor is generated using square sum of all cluster's Pds. Simulations under slow fading show that we can get better total detection probability and lower false alarm rate when PU (Primary User) suddenly terminates their transmission.
Performance Analysis of Cognitive Radio Cooperative Spectrum Sensing for Intelligent Transport System

Cognitive Radio (CR) technology is proposed for using the unused spectrum band efficiently because of the spectrum scarcity problems. Spectrum sensing technology is one of the key challenge issues in cognitive radio technologies, which enables unlicensed users to identify and utilize vacant spectrum resource allocated to primary users. In this paper, the cooperative spectrum sensing technologies apply the ITS(Intelligent Transport System) and performance of signal detection analyzes. Then, we utilize the OR-rule and AND-rule for the cooperative signal detection. These data fusion rules improve the performance and reliability of the signal detection.
Investigation of the Driving Characteristics of Elderly Drivers

Recently, there is a growing interest in promoting safe and convenient roadway and traffic conditions for elderly drivers. This paper analyzed the driving characteristics, self recognition, and any inconvenience of elderly drivers over age 65 through an extensive survey, and drew some action plans to improve the driving conditions for elderly drivers. Survey results showed that the major trip purposes of the elderly driver were found to be commuting(50%) and business(33%), and this pattern was similar to the general drivers. The elderly drivers are interested in "safety", but "brand recognition" was the more important factor for the general drivers in the process of vehicle selection. The elderly drivers had no technical skill difference in driving as compared to the general drivers, but they fully recognized the physical deterioration such as reaction time and sight distance. In addition, the elderly drivers had a tendency to feel psychological contraction as to high workload driving conditions, thus it was necessary to make safe driving conditions by improving the design elements of traffic control devices on the roadways including visibility.
Plastic Optical Fiber Sensor for an Anti-Drowsy Driving

In this paper, the feasibility for producing a plastic optical fiber sensor to be used as an anti-drowsy driving sensor is discussed. This sensor consists of a plastic optical fiber wound on the steering wheel covered by soft material. When a driver hold a steering wheel, the gripping force is induced and causes to the bend of the plastic optical fiber which decreases the power of light propagated inside the plastic fiber. The experimental results show that the detected optical power decrease as the gripping force increase and that this sensor can be used as the anti-drowsy driving sensor.
