A Study on Message Set of VMS on Express way and Evaluation of Driver's Preference

VMS(Variable Message Sign) which makes the traffic flow smooth by providing traffic information to road users in real-time has been being installed or operated on the road as part of the detailed ITS system. However, some problems were found as a result of survey on express way currently. In the part of the phase operation, the message interpretation time wasn't defined so that the phase operation was difficult. In the part of the information service, not considering characteristic of the VMS section caused the confusion to drivers. In the part of the message exposure, font, alignment, conversion and composition of the information were not consistent and use of superfluous words and inconsistent use of word having the same meaning brought about the problem on information communication This study established the detailed exposure method based on instructions relative to VMS operation. The method established by defining the number of appropriate phase and setting required function of each individual VMS installation location. The method is as follow. the font type is the GULIM, the message conversion method is simple conversion method, the alignment method is centering alignment method and the color is defined according to each situation. In this study, the preference survey was performed to review the validity of the proposed improvement through the common driver. The results were similar with the pre-study except for the font type. This study established the detailed exposure method based on instructions relative to VMS operation. The method established by defining the number of appropriate phase and setting required function of individual VMS installation location. For the evaluation of status and improvement, preference survey of ordinary drivers and statistics analysis was carried.
Methodology for Processing In-Vehicle Traffic Data in Wireless Traffic Information Systems and Experimental Evaluation

Collection of invaluable real-time traffic data becomes available under ubiquitous transportation sensor networks (UTSN). Various research efforts have been made to utilize such useful data for deriving more accurate and reliable traffic information. This study presented a novel concept of decentralized traffic information and method to process traffic data which are obtained from inter-vehicle communications under the UTSN. In addition, an experimental evaluation to investigate the feasibility of the proposed method using probe vehicle data. Predictive travel times were estimated and evaluated for the feasibility investigation. Technical issues were derived and discussed to fully implement the proposed system. The outcomes of this study would be used as a guideline in designing better next-generation traffic information systems.

Automatic Equalizer Control Method Using Music Genre Classification in Automobile Audio System

This paper proposes an automatic equalizer control method in automobile audio system. The proposed method discriminates the music segment from the consecutive real-time audio stream of the radio and the equalizer is controlled automatically according to the classified genre of the music segment. For enhancing the accuracy of the music genre classification in real-time, timbre feature and rhythm feature extracted from the consecutive audio stream is applied to GMM(Gaussian mixture model) classifier. The proposed method evaluates the performance of the music genre classification, which classified various audio segments segmented from the audio signal of the radio broadcast in automobile audio system into one of five music genres.

Wideband and tow Phase Noise Voltage Controlled Oscillator Using a Broadside Coupled Microstrip Resonator

In this paper, a novel VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) structure is proposed to achieve the characteristic of low phase noise and a wide frequency tuning range. The proposed scheme adopts an impedance transforming technique to change a series resonance into a parallel resonance for maximizing the susceptance slope parameter. The manufactured VCO shows a frequency tuning bandwidth of 600MHz from 10.1GHz to 10.7GHz with a tuning voltage varying from 0 to 9V, an excellent phase noise below -119dBc/Hz@1MHz offset. The harmonic suppression is measured above 28dB.
Vehicle-to-Vehicle Broadcast Protocols Based on Wireless Multi-hop Communication

Inter-vehicular communication that propagates information without infrastructures has drawn a lot of interest. However, it is difficult to apply conventional ad-hoc routing protocols directly in inter-vehicular communication due to frequent changes in the network topology caused by high mobility of the vehicles. MMFP(Multi-hop MAC Forwarding) is a unicast forwarding protocol that transport packets based on the reachability information instead of path selection or position information. However, delivering public safety messages informing road conditions such as collision, obstacles and fog through inter-vehicular communication requires broadcast rather than unicast since these messages contain information valuable to most drivers within a close proximity. Flooding is one of the simplest methods for multi-hop broadcast, but it suffers from reduced packet delivery-ratio and high transmission delay due to an excessive number of duplicated packets. This paper presents two multi-hop broadcast protocols for inter-vehicular communication that extend the MMFP. UMHB(Unreliable Multi-Hop Broadcast) mitigates the duplicated packets of MMFP by limiting the number of nodes to rebroadcast packets. UMHB, however, still suffers from low delivery ratio. RMHB(Reliable Multi-Hop Broadcast) uses acknowledgement and retransmission in order to improve the reliability of UMHB at the cost of increase in transmission delay, which we show through simulation is within an acceptable range for collision avoidance application.
A Proxy-Based Fast Handover Scheme in Mobile WiMAX Networks

In this paper, we propose a proxy-based fast handover scheme to improve a performance in the mobile WiMAX network using PMIPv6 for supporting the network-layer mobility. In our proposed scheme, we define three link-layer messages and one network-layer message to reduce the handover latency, and propose a buffering mechanism to minimize packet loss and solve out-of-sequence problem. A performance evaluation indicates that the proposed scheme works more efficiently than PMIPv6 in terms of the handover latency and packet loss.
Analysis of Economical Effect Due to Introduction of RFID on ULS Pallet

Recently, various studies regarding introduction of RFID have been implemented in many industries including logistics field. The objective of this study are (i) to analyze an economical effect due to the introduction of RFID on ULS(Unit Load System) Pallet, (ii) to develop a model to estimate cost of RFID introduction, and (iii) to establish a foundation for activating introduction of RFID to the logistics field in order to increase efficiency. This study utilized data regarding fifty logistics companies' awareness of RFID usage. The result of the economical analysis showed B/C of 2.766 and NPV of 2.6 billion won, which implies significant benefit to the logistics industry. This study is meaningful in that it is the first study to quantitatively estimate the effect of RFID introduction on ULS pallet in Korea.
Radio Beacon-based Seamless Indoor and Outdoor Positioning for Personal Navigation Systems

In this paper, using the received signal strength of radio beacon such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CDMA and GPS signal from the satellite, we propose the system of positioning which considered indoor and outdoor based on the Place Lab. Conventional Place Lab utilize the various positioning parameters to estimate the indoor location. However, this conventional system has limitations with respect to the range and efficiency of usage. Therefore, we defined the converged model of multisensor data and re-organized the Place Lab to overcome the limitation of a conventional system. Proposed system uses the radio beacon signal and GPS signal together to estimate the location. Furthermore, it provides the seamless PNS service with many mobile devices because this system realized by the OSGi bundle. This proposed system has evaluated the performance with SAMSUNG T*OMNIA SCH-M490 smart phone and the result shows the system is able to support the PNS service.

As the industrial society is developing wars, terrors, and vicious crimes is getting increased. These dangerous factors are caused of casualty and subversiveness of social order. Such vicious crimes lead people to feeling of insecurity. That is why naturally people want to build and inspect strengthened security system. CCTV camera system which can be said as the most popular security system is being installed in public places has large number of floating population. This trend is required to develop the intelligent video security technology and propagate it since the importance of security technology is getting high. This thesis will be described regarding the trend of the intelligent surveillance camera and the scenario.
Design and Implementation of UDDI to Provide the User-Side Quality of Web Service

Quality of the web service is one of the most important elements as various web services provide diverse functionality, and therefore, it is more and more difficult to satisfy customer's needs. Since the existing UDDI registry provides the basic information such as name and URL of a web service, users are having hard times to choose and customize their web service. In this paper, we propose an extended UDDI architecture for providing quality data of a web service. And in this architecture, we used an automated collection technique of data for testing web service which provides quality information to the users, including response time, throughput, availability, reliability and accessibility. With this new architecture, users and web developers can benefit from web services that customize information for the users and this ensures reliability of web-based applications.
