A Development of Preprocessing Models of Toll Collection System Data for Travel Time Estimation

TCS Data imply characteristics of traffic conditions. However, there are outliers in TCS data, which can not represent the travel time of the pertinent section, if these outliers are not eliminated, travel time may be distorted owing to these outliers. Various travel time can be distributed under the same section and time because the variation of the travel time is increase as the section distance is increase, which make difficult to calculate the representative of travel time. Accordingly, it is important to grasp travel time characteristics in order to compute the representative of travel time using TCS Data. In this study, after analyzing the variation ratio of the travel time according to the link distance and the level of congestion, the outlier elimination model and the smoothing model for TCS data were proposed. The results show that the proposed model can be utilized for estimating a reliable travel time for a long-distance path in which there are a variation of travel times from the same departure time, the intervals are large and the change in the representative travel time is irregular for a short period.
An Analysis on Service Usage of Traffic Information on the Expressway

The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze drivers' attitude related to usage of traffic information and traffic management service. A sample survey on Seohaeanseon Expressway(15), Gyeongbu Experssway(1), Youngdong Expressway(50) was conducted to analyze drivers' attitude ; sample size is 304 with 95% of confidence level and
of sampling error. The analysis lists of drivers' attitude are usage of traffic information, awareness about information dissemination devices, and awareness about traffic control information related to LCS or RWIS. The results of this study is that drivers want pre-trip information, voice-based Hi-pass OBU, and fast incident management. According to the IPA, KEC's main consideration is a traffic flow improvement.
A Study on Point Traffic Sensors' Placement for Detecting the Dilemma Zone Problem

This paper suggests a sensor's placement method for detecting the dilemma zone problem when real-time driver's safety service is provided at signalized intersections by multiple pointed traffic sensors using USN environments. For detecting the dangerous situations from vehicles accelerating through yellow intervals, red-light running and stopping abruptly like as dilemma zone problem, VISSIM(microscopic, behavior-based multi-purpose traffic simulation program) is used to perform a real-time multiple detection situation by changing the input data like as various inflow-volume, design speed change, driver perception and response time. As a result, the optimal interval of traffic sensors is 20~27m, and the initialized sensor location from stop-line is different according to road design speed. Moreover, the pattern of detection about dilemma zone is also different according to inflow-volumes. This paper shows that the method is useful to evaluate the sensor's placement problem based on micro-simulation and the results can be used as the basic research for USN services.
A Study on the Effectiveness Analysis of Freeway Traffic Management Strategy Based on exTMS

This paper aims to evaluate the freeway traffic management Strategy based on exTMS according to traffic situation of freeway. As freeway user's demands increase, we thus need future-oriented and optimized traffic management. So, through improving the existing system and introducing the advanced system, these systems evaluate for not only preparing the application in real world but also preliminary feasibility. To evaluate effects of the traffic management based on exTMS, in this study, shoulder LCS, advanced VMS(assumption in it is improving next-generation system which it can be offering diverse dynamic traffic information), Ramp-metering system are applicated in simulation. In addition, this study evaluates the effect when all proposed systems are applicated, and compare the individual effect of when independent system is applicated, through considering about traffic condition of V/C=0.5, V/C=0.8, V/C=1.2. The study results show that all assumed cases, the travel speed were improved according to the increasing V/C. Furthermore, the results of evaluated the individual system show that the shoulder LCS was found to be the largest effect, and the effect of VMS(detour rate is 11%) is larger than the other cases.
Parameter Variation of Car-Following Models Due to Vehicle Tinting

Regulation of Visible Light Transmission Percentage (VLT%) has been argued because it was known that the degree of darkness of tinted vehicle can affect to driving maneuver. Previously, it was proven that low level of VLT affects capacity reduction. But, due to lack of field data they could not analyze the effect of Car-Following model parameters. This study focuses on the effect of a tinted vehicle on following traffic flow. RTK GPS receiving data through field experiment analyzed based on headway distance, acceleration noise, sensitivity, and reaction time. As a result of analysis through GM 1st Model and 3rd Model, influence of following vehicle vary inversely with VLT and risk according as tinting of lead vehicle is third vehicle bigger than second vehicle. Also the results patterns of GM 3rd model include distance-headway are same with GM 1st Model. In the further need to research for influence analysis of traffic flow stability by the level of VLT.
A Study on the Signal Control Unit's Reconstitution to Control the Separated Through/Left(or Right) Turn and the Median Bus Lane Signal for the Standard Traffic Signal Controller

According to the change of the traffic conditions, the requirement of controlling the separated left(or right) turn, the median bus lane and bicycle signal is increasing. However, the traffic signal controller standard based on the four-set lights restricts to control the three-set lights which control the separated direction and kind of traffics. This study suggests the method to control the three-set lights signal by improving the hardware and software for the traffic signal controller which is operated currently in the traffic scene. The 6 output ports of Load Signal Unit(LSU) which is consisted of Pedestrian Red, Pedestrian Green, Red, Yellow, Arrow and Green signal reconstitute 2 rows of the Red, Yellow, Green for three-set lights while the Signal Map data's code values which control the signal step of an individual Ring and LSU are established to adjust the LSU's output ports(R1 Y1 G1 R2 Y2 G2) of the three-set lights. The effect of using the separated through/left turn and the median lane bus signal of three-set lights is analyzed from a Mangwoo intersection in Seoul. The results of analysis show that the delay time of the east-west direction where the median bus lane is operated is especially improved with over 70 sec/veh.
A Study on Developing the TCP/IP Application Communication Protocol for the Standard Traffic Signal Controller

The communication between the center system and the local controller in the Traffic Signal Controller Specification has been specified by a communication line for the exclusive use and the analog modem serial protocol. Therefore, it can't be adapted in the ITS communication network of the TCP/IP protocol being constructed in the local city. The international and domestic ITS device's communication specification has adapted the DATEX-ASN data exchange technique based on the ethernet communication network. So, this study was performed by the purpose of developing the application communication protocol's standard draft based on the TCP/IP communication protocol for the traffic signal controller, to be able to constitute the traffic signal control system in the ITS communication network. The communication format for 23 items of control, status, and database request etc. which are specified in the standard traffic signal controller was developed by appling the DATEX-ASN data interface procedure and structure which are KS ISO X 14827 Part1, 2, ISO/ DIS 15784 Part-3. To test the developed protocol, the application program for the communication items was developed and according to the test result, the encoding and the decoding transection for all communication items was possible.
An Analysis of Economic Evaluation Related to Lane Departure Warning System

Continuous increase of traffic demand has caused confirmed congestion, fuel consumption, emission, safety, etc. as serious social problems at the present time. The Smart Highway Project has been conducted by the supervision of Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affaire to solve such problems since 2007. The Smart Highway Project includes LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System), a system to prevent broadside collisions and accidents, as a sub-technology of road-vehicle associating technologies. This system warns drivers when their vehicle deviates from the lane where they are traveling at high-speed on the highway. In this paper, the LDWS was evaluated using CBA to analyze the socio-economic consequences. Estimated benefits include reduction of accidents and convenience of drivers. In addition, the economics according to the distribution rate is various when it comes to Lane Departure Warning Technology, the economics of both cases - positive scenario and negative scenario, which was analyzed. As a result, the Benefit-Cost ratio(B/C) of negative scenario showed 0.97 in 2020 and 1.36 in 2030 while B/C ratio of the positive scenario showed 1.04 in 2020 and 1.59 in 2030, which indicated that the higher distribution rate is, the higher the economics generates. Therefore, it is judged that the introduction of Lane Departure Warning Technology will result in high economics.
Design and Implementation of a VCO Employing Harmonic Oscillators and a Impedance Inverter

In this paper, improved VCO(voltage controlled oscillator) with push-push structure and high impedance-inverter is designed and implemented. Two harmonic oscillators are combined into push-push structure. As a result, the fundamental suppression and the output power have been progressed. For the improved coupling characteristics between hair-pin resonator and two parallel microstrip line using high impedance inverter, the phase noise has been suppressed.
Implementation of the Vehicle Antenna for the AM/FM/TDMB/GPS Receiver

In this paper, a vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. AM antenna loaded into small space of shark shape was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for achieving characteristics both bandwidth and gain improvement was designed microstrip patch that has air substrate and fractal structure. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.
Performance Analysis of Optical Path Difference on Visible Light Communication System for Intelligent Transport Systems

In outdoor visible light communication channels and LED road illumination communications for the intelligent transport systems (ITS), inter symbol interference (ISI) due to multipath propagation prevents high data rate transmission. Indoor wireless optical communication systems utilizing white LED lights and on the road illumination have been studying about it. Generally, plural lights are installed in room and considered to the traffic information system using existing LED traffic lights. Therefore, their optical path difference must be considered. In this paper, the influence of an optical path difference has been investigated and two approaches against this problem are introduced. One uses on-off keying, return-to-zero (OOK-RZ) coding and the other uses optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM).
Spectrum Sensing Technique in Cognitive Radio Systems Based on Ad-Hoc Networks

Wireless devices can communicate between each other without existing infrastructure in mobile Ad-hod network. Ad hoc networks can be used under difficult conditions, where it is difficult to construct infrastructures, such as shadowing areas, disaster areas, war area, and so on. In order to support to considerable and various wireless services, more spectrum resources are needed. However, efficient utilization of the frequency resource is difficult because of spectrum scarcity and the conventional frequency regulation. Ad-hoc networks employing cognitive radio (CR) system that guarantee high spectrum utilization provide effective way to increase the network capacity. In this paper, we simulate and compare the performance of conventional single and cooperative spectrum sensing with CR system using ad-hoc networks. And we demonstrate performance improvement by analyzing the system performance.
Improving Subtitle Design of Mobile Broadcast

This research aimed at providing the direction for future improvement of broadcast subtitle design by identifying the user perception on broadcast subtitles of Terrestrial DMB. First, we contemplated on the existing research about broadcast subtitles. As a result, we found out that broadcast subtitle plays an essential role when watching a program and that the minimization of letters, clear fonts and color arrangement, rearrangement of components were identified as main factors that increase readability. However, the terrestrial DMB user evaluation on image quality, composition, color and brightness was not that positive. In addition, the evaluation on the readability of broadcast subtitle, information transmission, subtitle composition, letter font, number and size of letter was more negative. Developing a subtitle design which considers user convenience and suits terrestrial DMB screens in aspects of broadcast subtitle form and composition, limit of information, clearness and size of the letter is required.
A Study on Method for Estimating Scale and Requirements of Bike Parking Lots

10 years ago, Korea proclaimed the bike traffic activation law. Many cities have constructed bike paths and parking lots. However, because of increased bike users, lack of bike paths, and parking lots, it is predisposed to avoidance to ride. This study suggests reasonable bike parking lots scale and estimated bike parking lots using the bike traffic assignments. As results, reasonable bike parking lots scale is approximately 5% of car parking lots, which is minimum value. Then, each city can estimate reasonable bike parking lots scale by considering the characteristics and size of cities.
The Effect Analysis of One-side Walking Behavior Using MDPM(Multi-directional Pedestrian Model)

Network models for pedestrian flows have been studied in various ways. However, because of the simplicity and application, a number of researchers prefer the CA Model to analyze pedestrian's complicated behavior. These kinds of models based on Agent are being used as a microscopic analyzing method since it can easily adapt individuals' various characters and movement types. However, because pedestrians' movement can be (easily) effected by where they are and where they head, some models using the same rules have limit when considering pedestrians' every different movement. In this research, homogeneous section is defined as a similar movement type of individuals. With MDPM, we suggest simulation method explaining one-way walk and side-walk which could not be done in past.
