An Application of Data Mining Techniques in the Driving Pattern Analysis

Recently, as the importance of Economical Driving has been gradually growing up, the needs for research on automatic analysis of driving patterns that will ultimately provide drivers the methods for Economical Driving have been increasingly risen. Based on this purpose, we have executed two things in this paper. First, we have collected overall driving information such as date, distance, driving time, speed, idle time, sudden acceleration/deceleration count, and the amount of fuel consumption. Second, we have analyzed the influences of driving patterns on economical driving by employing the data mining techniques. These results can be applied in preventing bad driving patterns which will have consequently bad effects on Economical Driving in two aspects: by presenting some information on the terminal of the vehicles such as idle time, over-speed time, sudden acceleration/deceleration count continuously and by providing the drivers with alert information when the idle time ratio and the over-speed time ratio are excessive.
A Study on the Traffic Information System Development Using DSRC

Recently, DSRC technology is used in the various fields such as parking system, BIS, ETC, etc. This paper suggests a traffic information system using this DSRC technology. The traffic information processing based on point detection using existing vehicle detection equipment is the system in which a collection and a service are operated separately while the traffic information system based on the link detection using DSRC is able to collect and provide the traffic information through the communication between RSE and OBU. The speed of a traffic congestion is high on the process converted from a point passing speed to a link average speed because the vehicle detection equipment makes the link traffic information into the point information. When the condition of traffic is deteriorated, traffic speed of the vehicle detection equipment becomes higher than DSRC. Especially, in this system, deflection by data of the traffic speed of the traffic information system is much decreased, and the unexpected condition detection and traffic condition are provided promptly.
A Novel Method for Estimating Representative Section Travel Times Using Individual Vehicle Trajectory Data

This study proposes a methodology for estimating representative section travel times using individual vehicle travel information under the ubiquitous transportation environment (UTE). A novel approach is to substantialize a concept of dynamic node-links in processing trajectory data. Also, grouping vehicles was conducted to obtain more reliable travel times representing characteristics of individual vehicle travels. Since the UTE allows us to obtain higher accuracy of vehicle positions, travel times for each lane can be estimated based on the proposed methodology. Evaluation results show that less than 10% of mean absolute percentage error was achievable with 20% of probe vehicle rate. It is expected that outcome of this study is useful for providing more accurate and reliable traffic information services.
Auto-Analysis of Traffic Flow through Semantic Modeling of Moving Objects

Recently, there are interested in the automatic traffic flowing and accident detection using various low level information from video in the road. In this paper, the automatic traffic flowing and algorithm, and application of traffic accident detection using traffic management systems are studied. To achieve these purposes, the spatio-temporal relation models using topological and directional relations have been made, then a matching of the proposed models with the directional motion verbs proposed by Levin's verbs of inherently directed motion is applied. Finally, the synonym and antonym are inserted by using WordNet. For the similarity measuring between proposed modeling and trajectory of moving object in the video, the objects are extracted, and then compared with the trajectories of moving objects by the proposed modeling. Because of the different features with each proposed modeling, the rules that have been generated will be applied to the similarity measurement by TSR (Tangent Space Representation). Through this research, we can extend our results to the automatic accident detection of vehicle using CCTV.
Effects on the Accident Reduction of Red Light Camera Using Empirical Bayes Method

This study deals with the effects on the accident reduction according to the installation of RLC (red light cameras). The objective is to analyze the effects on the accident reduction using EB (Empirical Bayes) method. In pursuing the above, the study uses the 728 accident data occurred at the 28 intersections which RLC are installed. The main results are as follows. First, the effects of accident reduction were analyzed to be 20.74% by simple before-after study method. Second, the safety performance functions (SPF) were developed by the Poisson and negative binominal regression models, and since the over-dispersion parameter was close to zero, Poisson model was evaluated to be more appropriate than the negative binominal model. Also, the Poisson model was analyzed to be statistically significant because its
value was 0.409. Finally, the results of analysis using an EB method showed that the accidents were reduced by range from 3.89 to 29.23%.
Study on the Analysis for the Effects of the Automated Speed Enforcement System Application

Since the introduction of 32 Automated Speed Enforcement System in Korea 1997, their application was expanded to the entire nation and, as of January 2008, there are 3,212 Automated Speed Enforcement System that are in operation. The existing method of evaluating the effects of the Automated Speed Enforcement System application is simple comparison of a year before and a year after the application. If the number of traffic accidents dramatically increased(or decreased) the year before the application compared to the numbers from years before that, then if the number decreased(or increased) after the Automated Speed Enforcement System application, it cannot be concluded that the change was caused by the Automated Speed Enforcement System application alone. Based on the 4-Step Before-After study, the method of evaluating the effect of an Automated Speed Enforcement System application was analyzed anew. At 205 locations where Automated Speed Enforcement System was applied in 2006, the existing evaluation stated a reduction of 19% in the number of traffic accidents, but when reanalyzed for the method suggested in this paper, the effect of the Automated Speed Enforcement System was found to be

High Efficiency Rectenna for Wireless Power Transmission Using Harmonic Suppressed Dual-mode Band-pass Filter

In this paper, a high efficiency 2.45 GHz rectenna with a microstrip patch antenna and a dual-mode band-pass filter in which the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are suppressed, is presented. From the experimental results, the 2.45GHz rectenna using 3rd harmonic suppressed dual-mode BPF shows the conversion efficiency of 41.6% with incident power density of 0.3 mW/cm2 and the received power of 1.66 mW. This result shows high conversion efficiency because the received power of this rectenna is lower than other rectennas to be compared with. This rectenna can be applied to the WPT (Wireless Power Transmission) field for energy harvesting. Also, it is expected to be used to provide the stand-by power for the low power devices for USN, and wireless power transfer in sensor application of MEMS devices.
Performance Analysis of Hybrid ARQ-II Protocol for Cooperative Communication in Wireless Channel

Wireless media communication has lower robustness and stability than wired communication because of narrow bandwidth and unstable channel state. To make up for the deficient points of wireless communication, we used the diversity effect of cooperation communication and the error correction effect of channel coding schemes. In this paper, the cooperative communication system with RCPC codes and Hybrid ARQ transmission scheme is proposed for improving reliability on wireless communication, and we executed these simulations. From the simulation results, proposed system is showed lower BER performance than legacy system. In addition, we confirm the fact that the channel state of Relay-node and source-node is more important than the channel state of Relay-node and destination-node.
A Study on the Interference Effects between UWB and T-DMB Systems

Recently, a great variety of radio services are provided and interference problem between radio systems is being watched remarkably. Therefore, a study of interference between radio systems is needed. In this paper, compatibility between Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Terestrial Digital Multi-media Broadcasting (T-DMB) is analyzed and then distance between them is computed. UWB systems have a very broad frequency characteristic. A big advantage is to share frequency that is already allocated to other systems. T-DMB is a good point that while L-Band is already used for DAB, T_DMB is free of charge. AT-DMB (Advanced T-DMB) is being standardized recently. The result which is analyzed for the interference effects between UWB and T-DMB Systems is 10 [dB], which is value calculated by C/(N0+I), at 80 [m] and then the value is saturated at 150 [m].
Antenna Selection Scheme Using Noncoherent Receivers for Off-Body High Data Rate WBAN

As the development of wireless techniques, transmission technology of body area network plays an important role in realizing a welfare society by combining IT and BT when applying to vehicles. Off-body WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) systems for video data transmission require low battery consumption and high data rate. To satisfy the requirement, UWB has been considered as a promising candidate for high rate WBAN. This paper introduces an antenna selection technique for ultra-wideband based off-body WBAN system with low complexity. In this paper, we propose an antenna selection scheme using non-coherent receiver for off-body high data rate WBAN system. The proposed receiver antenna selection method takes advantage of the characteristic of BPPM (Binary Pulse Position Modulation). With the property of BPPM, this scheme calculates the approximate SNR of the received signal with non-coherent receiver.
A Study on Policy Research in Improvement of ITS Performance Tests and Methods

The objective of this study is to revise the related regulations and laws of intelligent transport systems performance tests and methods. This study improves the reliability of present traffic information, reduce public discontent by systematic reforms and reduce national and social costs through the analysis of intelligent transport system performance tests'current status and problems. This study will maximize the investment profits and efficiency of ITS system as the reliability of transportation information which is created through the maintenance of ITS equipment and center, systemization of work responsibility through close analysis of ITS performance test and overall evaluation of role of ITS performance assessment organization will improve and new level of service will be born.
A Study on the Security Mechanism to Reduce Authentication Time in Wireless LAN(IEEE 802.11)

Both security enhancement in wireless and fast access for mobility are required to employ wireless LAN in ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems). However, for the case of employing IEEE 802.11i security standard, it is known that the user authentication procedure of IEEE 802.1x and 4-way handshake procedure for stronger security enforcement may not be suitable for ITS due to its large delay. In this paper, we propose fast authentication method to resolve the above authentication delay problem, and verify its performance via simulation analysis.

In this paper, Gaussian probability distribution model based multi-sensor data fusion algorithm is proposed for a vehicular location awareness system. Conventional vehicular location awareness systems are operated by GPS (Global Positioning System). However, the conventional system is not working in the indoor of building or urban area where the receiver is difficult to receive the signal from satellites. A method which is combined GPS and UWB (Ultra Wide-Band) has developed to improve this problem. However, vehicular is difficult to receive seamless location information since the measurement systems by both GPS and UWB convert the vehicle's movement information separately at each sensor. In this paper, normalized probability distribution model based Hybrid UWB/GPS is proposed by utilizing GPS location data and UWB sensor data. Therefore the proposed system provides information with seamless and location flexible properties. The proposed system tested by Ubisense and Asen GPS in the
outdoor environments. As a result, the proposed system has improved performance for accurateness and connection ability between devices to support various CNS (Car Navigation System).
A Power-Efficient MAC Protocol for WBAN

A key challenge for Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is to maximize the network lifetime with power-efficient and flexible duty cycling techniques on energy-constraint sensor nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel power-efficient MAC protocol for WBAN that accommodates normal, emergency, and on-demand traffic in a reliable manner. This protocol supports two wakeup mechanisms, a traffic-based wakeup mechanism, which accommodates normal traffic by exploiting the node's traffic patterns, and a wakeup radio mechanism, which accommodates emergency and on-demand traffic by using a wakeup radio. It can be seen that the proposed protocol not only improves the lifetime of WBAN but also provides a reliable method to handle sporadic events. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol outperforms WiseMAC in terms of low-power consumption and delay.
Performance of the Concatenated System of MTCM Codes with STBC on Fast Rayleigh Fading Channels

Space-time block codes (STBC) have no coding gain but they provide a full diversity gain with relatively low encoder/decoder complexity. Therefore, STBC should be concatenated with an outer code which provides an additional coding gain. In this paper, we consider the concatenation of multiple trellis-coded modulation (MTCM) codes with STBC for achieving significant coding gain with full antenna diversity. Using criteria of equal transmit power, spectral efficiency and the number of trellis states, the performance of concatenated scheme is compared to that of previously known space-time trellis codes (STTC) in terms of frame error rate (FER). Simulation results show that MTCM codes concatenated with STBC offer better performance on fast Rayleigh fading channels, than previously known STTC with two transmit antennas and one receive antenna.
Development of a Cause Analysis Program to Risky Driving with Vision System

Electronic control systems of vehicle are rapidly developed to keep balance of a driver`s safety and the legal, social needs. The driver assistance systems are putted into practical use according to the cost drop in hardware and highly efficient sensor, etc. This study has developed a lane and vehicle detection program using CCD camera. The Risky Driving Analysis Program based on vision systems is developed by combining a risky driving detection algorithm formed in previous study with lane and vehicle detection program suggested in this study. Risky driving detection programs developed in this study with information coming from the vehicle moving data and lane data are useful in efficiently analyzing the cause and effect of risky driving behavior.
Analysis of the Vulnerable Roadway Designs for Elderly Drivers and Its Improvement Schemes

Improvement of roadway environments to accommodate elderly drivers' declining driving capabilities are required. Currently, even the types of roadway designs vulnerable to elderly drivers have not been revealed in Korea. Thus, this study aims to analyze the types and vulnerabilities of the roadway designs that elderly drivers experience more accidents based on crash data of the Korean National Police Agency. This study has also reviewed foreign guidelines enhancing their safety on different roadway designs. Compared with normal drivers, elderly drivers tend to be more frequently involved in traffic accidents on intersections and vehicle-to-vehicle accidents on curved roadway segments. Assuming freeway interchanges are also risky sections, this study has also examined several methods to reduce elderly driver-related accidents on freeway ramp areas.
Parameter Measurement Method for Super Capacitor Failure Diagnosis and Application of Voltage Sag Compensation System Using Super Capacitor

Recently, the super capacitor(EDLC) which has drawn attention as a new energy storage element has a lot of advantage such as no maintenance, long lifetime and quick charge/discharge characteristics with large current. The objective of this paper is propose a parameter measurement method to detect the changes in equivalent series resistor (ESR) and the capacitance value of a super capacitor in order to analysis the internal characteristic and worn-out state of a super capacitor. For proposed method, only the capacitor voltage measurement using simple analog switch is required. In addition, experimental results of voltage sag compensation system in order to compensate the input voltage drop during short-term power interruption adopted super capacitor are presented.
A Characteristic Analysis and Capacitance Estimation Algorithm of Electrolytic Capacitor for Non-linear Loads

Due to the large capacity and low cost, electrolytic capacitors with of energy storage and voltage regulation are used for almost all types of non-linear load as the DC/DC converter. Electrolytic capacitor, which is the most of the time affected by the aging effect, plays very important role for the power converter system quality and reliability. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method to detect the changes the capacitance value of an electrolytic capacitor in order to analyze the internal characteristic and worn-out state of an electrolytic capacitor. Simulation results by frequency analysis show the validity of the proposed capacitance estimation algorithm.
Development of a Matrix-based Context Awareness Model for Vehicle Environment

Recently, with the development of ubiquitous computing, the study and development about context awareness models is required for the application of ubiquitous environment. This paper presents the design and implementation of a matrix based context awareness model for vehicle environment. The matrix construction method using 5W1H and CAM (Context Awareness Model) expression is proposed for context awareness modeling. The system with the proposed model is implemented by Zigbee modules for the recognition of individual identification and position and a navigator for current spatial and temporal information of GPS. The result of experiments shows that the proposed model is available.
