To Manage Use-Data of Nation-wide Transportation Card, Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System Development

The existing survey of the actual use relevant transportation, implemented in order to reflect transportation policy, has been performed for users by researcher directly, or thereby analysing the data of particular date-oriented of transportation card business's content so that such method have many problems. To solve such problem, we developed a new system, Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System which include several functions of effective collecting of transportation use-data created from the Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System, accurate counting and easy inquiry. This system consists of Link-server to collect and count for transportation use-data, DB-server to store for this data and Inquiry terminal to search for the information needed. To verify for developed this system, we run test-bed by connection between this system and the Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System developed by the KOREA Financial Telecommunications & Clearings, the KORAIL NETWORKS and the HiPlusCard. And through result of test-bed, we proved that Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System practically works well. Thus we can look for systematic reflect of reliable information.
A Development of the Evaluation Index for UTIS Traffic Information Service

Road Traffic Authority and National Police Agency is currently managing the "development of an integrated metropolitan traffic information infrastructure" that installs of facilities for a traffic information infrastructures, such as Local Traffic Information Center, UTIS(Urban Traffic Information System), CCTV, VMS and etc. CTIC was established in 2005 to act as an traffic information hub and to provide integrated UTIS traffic information without regional barriers. This study was carried out to seek for solution to improve quality of UTIS traffic information service for the Central Traffic Information Center(CTIC). In this study, the Evaluation index for UTIS traffic information service was developed and the implementation plan was established by using requirement analysis method, case study and AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique. The Evaluation index consist of 5 fields and 20 index, it make possible evaluation of direct/indirect effect for UTIS traffic information service. In conclusion, It is expected that quality of UTIS traffic information service will be improved by using developed evaluation index and also can be applied for performance evaluation of other traffic information systems.
A Study on Enhancing VMS Services by FM Car Radio

Increasingly advanced Information Technology (IT) has changed the operator so as to create more diversified and advanced traffic information demand. To deal with the changing demand in private sector, a concept of on-demand traffic information has been rapidly introduced. However VMS, a product of the first generation of ITS, which was designed to provide the unspecified individuals during driving the car with the basic level of traffic information by the public failed to actively change itself in such a changing pattern. This study was intended to describe the VMS system (tentatively, FM-VMS) which was further developed to accommodate the needs favoring the sophisticated PDA with the public role of providing the unspecified individuals with the equal information. FM-VMS introduced in this study is the device designed to transmit the voice and message to the drivers through the radio information device mounted on a car. A core technology is, unlike FM-DARC and RDS, the Water Making technology which directly inserts the digital signal into FM frequency in use. It's been currently used for broadcasting and security purpose. A detection rate as a result of testing FM-VMS system using Water Making technology was 90% or more in voice and message within 20m from test VMS. When a public-developed VMS information could be transmitted using FM frequency to the relatively vulnerable users (vulnerable to traffic information) in voice on a real-time basis to provide the regional traffic information, and furthermore, VMS message could be received through radio liquid using FM frequency only, it would obviously bring about the innovation in ITS as well as pave the way for creating the new added value down the road.
Error Filtering Algorithm for Accurate Travel Speed Measurement Using UTIS

Travel speed is an important parameter in measurement of road traffic. UTIS(Urban Traffic Information System) was developed as a type of section detector. However, UTIS incur errors caused by irregular vehicle trajectories, wireless communication range and so on. This paper suggests a new model that use an error-filtering algorithm to improve the accuracy of travel speed measurements. In the field test, the variance of the percent errors measured by the new model was reduced. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed model significantly improves travel speed measuring accuracy.
A Study on Driving Characteristics of Drivers at the Enforcement System Based on Speed Data

The increasing interest in the use of automated photographic equipment in Korea enables to detect speed violation and enforce traffic laws. Since 1996, Korean National Police Agency has been promoting a project for installation of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) system aiming at reduction of accidents. Recently, point to point speed cameras operate to measure a driver's average speed across length of road and/or the spot speed at individual camera sites along the road length. In this study, we were analyzed to driver's operating characteristics in point to point speed cameras. The point to point speed camera system has link-long influence on drivers and their speeds despite enforcement being visible only at the start and end of enforced road length. Then, mean and 85th percentile speeds were below speed limit along enforced road length by the two camers. Also, Female drivers were driving at low speed than male drivers along the road length.
Estimation of Drag Factors Between Roadway Surface and Human Body

The scientific analysis of car-pedestrian accidents is not an easy task because of the characteristic of the accidents itself. Since the analysis involved human being, there were few experimental data that could be used for the analysis. The coefficient of friction of human body was the one of crucial data for accident analysis, but no field experiment report was available for various roadway conditions. This study intends to measure the coefficient of friction of human body through field studies. Results showed that the coefficient of friction of human body for dry asphalt pavement conditions was 0.59~0.62, and for dry concrete pavement conditions was 0.59~0.61. In addition, the coefficients for wet asphalt pavement and for wet concrete pavement conditions were 0.56~0.59 and 0.51~0.54 respectively, indicating 5.0% and 8.3% reduction compared to the dry conditions. The deduced coefficients were validated using the simulation program. It has been confirmed that the experiment values were close to the simulation results.
Development of Expressway TRaffic Analysis Model(ExTRAM)

In spite of continuous road construction, traffic congestion has been worsening by radical vehicle's increase and development of surroundings near expressway. Thus, the necessity of traffic management and the needs of provision of traffic information to drivers are raised. In order to solve traffic problems, such as traffic congestion, search for optimal congestion management technique and evaluation of the effect of optimal solution should be examined prior to practice of optimal alternative. However, existing traffic analysis model and simulation programs as tools to search and evaluate optimal alternative are not sufficient to reflect traffic flow characteristics, domestic road and traffic conditions and to link up to Freeway Traffic Management Systems (FTMS). Hence, to use existing traffic analysis and simulation tools are followed by hard work to need a lot of time and cost. Therefore, in this research, Expressway TRaffic Analysis Model (ExTRAM) based on Freeway Traffic Management Systems (FTMS) was developed to apply it into congestion management easily.
Comparative Analysis on the Delay Between Multi-legged Roundabout and Signalized Intersection

The roundabout is a green transportation system which reduces the accident, the congestion cost and greenhouse effect. The purpose of the study is to analyze the multi-legged roundabout's efficiency. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to building the optimal network of multi-legged roundabout and intersections, developing the scenarios for analysis reflected by the proportion of entering traffic volume of main and minor roads, and comparatively analyzing the average delay per car using VISSIM. The main results are as follows. First, when the entering traffic volume are less than 3,500pcph, the 5-legged single and double-lane roundabout are all analyzed to be more effective than intersection. Second, when the entering traffic volume are less than 3,600pcph, the 6-legged single-lane roundabout is analyzed to be more effective than intersection. The 6-legged double-lane roundabout is analyzed to be more effective than intersection. The 6-legged double-lane roundabout is analyzed to be more effective than intersection in all cases of entering volume.
Development of Quantitative Analysis Methodology on Environmental Effect through Adaptation of Advanced Safety Vehicle

The capacity of highway is restricted and traffic congestion is caused by increasing traffic demand. Also, greenhouse gases are increased by traffic congestion. CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) is an idea of interest to reduce greenhouse gases. However, CDM's cases applied in traffic field are rare. Thus, it is necessary that methodology to reduce greenhouse gas should be developed and applied to CDM. A methodology for identifying greenhouse gas emissions was developed in this paper. This methodology was developed on the basis of baseline methodology registered at UN. Travel time and speed in the conventional traffic condition and in the automated traffic condition are compared by BPR function. The calculated speed applied to emission factor equation and then
emissions was calculated. A simulation was executed to evaluate the validity of the developed methodology. In the result, advanced vehicle's
emissions are more than conventional vehicle's
emissions in the stable flow condition. However, advanced vehicle's
emissions are less than conventional vehicle's
emissions in the unstable flow condition. It is assure that capacity of highway is enhanced and efficiency of highway is improved by adopting advanced safety vehicle in the smart road.
A Study on dual-band Wilkinson power divider with
-shaped parallel stub transmission lines for WLAN

Recently, wireless communication systems have been developed and the circuits which operate with the broad-band for multiband uses were introduced. However, broad-band circuits have problems that inevitably increase the size. Dual-band circuit operates only two frequency, therefore, it will be able to miniaturize through unnecessary decreased elements. The Wilkinson power divider is the one of the most commonly used components in wireless communication system for power division. Nowaday, the Wilkinson power divider is also demanded dual-band. In this paper, I propose miniaturized dual-band Wilkinson power divider operating at 2.45 GHz and 5.2 GHz for IEEE 802.11n standard. Proposed dual-band Wilkinson power divider is used in parallel stub line. Energy Efficient Spectrum Sensing for Ad-hoc Cognitive Radio

Wireless ad hoc network composed of low power devices has been operated in ISM bands. However, with the growing proliferation of wireless services, these bands are increasingly getting congested. In order to relieve the spectrum scarcity and inefficient spectrum utilization, ad ho cognitive radio was proposed. In this paper we propose the efficient spectrum sensing method to reduce power consumption and detect white space in ad hoc cognitive radio system. The wireless channel between a licensed user and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel, the distance between a licensed user and CR systems is assumed differently. Also, the wireless channel among CR systems is assumed as the perfect channel and the distance among CR systems is assumed close distance. CR systems sense the spectrum of the licensed user by using a energy detection method. From the simulation results, spectrum sensing performance of combining sensing result of CR systems with high received energy shows higher than combining sensing result of all CR systems and we can refer to the proposed sensing method in order to perform effective spectrum sensing with low power consumption.
A Study on Introduction Plan for Power Limit of National Mobile Communication Handsets

In this paper, equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of six mobile phones made by two national companies were measured in order to introduce power limit of mobile phones for national CDMA, PCS and WCDMA applications. The measurement has been conducted in a full anechoic chamber and used antenna substitution method. From the measured results, the measured power of the mobile phones are compared by power limit regulations of mobile phones for USA, Japan and Europe. Finally, we propose power limits of 2 W ERP for CDMA phones, 2 W EIRP for PCS phones, and 2 W EIRP for WCDMA phones, respectively.
A Multipath Establishing Scheme using Pre-search in Ad Hoc Networks

This paper suggests a multipath establishing scheme for ad hoc networks. Data paths are established by on-demand manner. Multipath are made as a sequence of route control message exchange at route setup process. Multipath can be used as a backup path or load balancing for data exchange. Proposed scheme uses a one-hop pre-search scheme for establishing multipath between source and destination. When a node selects a next node for route reply, the node finds optimal route by exchanging route information with neighbor nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed multipath scheme has better split characteristics among multipath and higher route survivability at the environment where nodes are moving.
Power Configuration using Weighted Sum Genetic Algorithm in Femtocell System

Due to the effect of indoor coverage problem, the QoS of the indoor users will be degraded dramatically, with the number of indoor users. The femto cell is a popular solution for such problems. Since the price of the femto base station is usually cheap enough, one can sets up huge number of base stations in a small indoor area to reduce the size of communication cell. In this way, the QoS of the indoor users can be improved significantly. Moreover, the data rate can also be increased. However, how to decide an ideal transmitting power according to the surrounding radio environment is not a trivial problem, that still has not been addressed well. If the transmit power of femto base station is too large, the interference to the macro users will be increased. Conversely, if the transmit power of femto base station is too small; the coverage of femto base station will be reduced. To address this problem, we propose a power configuration method in femto base station using Genetic Algorithm by investigating a new fitness function. Furthermore, we adopt the weighted sum approach to improve the user performance in different modes. The simulation results show that the proposed power configuration method can not only improves the downlink SINR, but also enhance the channel capacity for both the Macro cell systems and Femto cell systems compared with some conventional methods.
On the QoS Support in Medium Access Control for Medical Sensor Networks

In line with the requirement of appropriate protocol support for such mission-critical wireless sensor network (WSN) applications as patient monitoring, we investigate the framework for designing medium access control (MAC) schemes. The data traffic in medical systems comes with inherent traffic heterogeneity as well as strict requirement of reliability according to the varied extents of devise-wise criticality in separate cases. This implies that the quality-of-Service (QoS) issues are very distinctly delicate requiring specialized consideration. Besides, there are features in such systems that can be exploited during the design of a MAC scheme. In a monitoring or routine surveillance application, there are degrees of regularity or predictability in traffic as coordinated from a node of central control. The coordinator thus takes on the role of marshaling the resources in a neighborhood of nodes deployed mostly for upstream traffic; in a collision-free scheme, it schedules the time slots for each superframe based on the QoS specifications. In this preliminary study, we identify the key artifacts of such a MAC scheme. We also present basic performance issues like the impact of superframe length on delay incurred, energy efficiency achieved in the network operation as obtained in a typical simulation setup based on this framework.
