The CEO Tenure and Profiles of SI Companies
Kim, Yong-Min ; Kim, Hyun-Soo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 1~14
In this study, we report the summary characteristics of CEOs of SI firms in Korea. In the first part of our paper, age, educational background, and career of CEOs in SI firms are analyzed according to CEO types (owners versus professional managers). In the second part, CEO tenures of Si firms in Korea are compared with those in the U.S. and Japan. We found that CEO tenures of SI firms in Korea are remarkably shorter than those in the U.S. and Japan. In conclusion, we contend that CEO systems in Korean firms should be improved to guarantee the longer tenures especially for professional managers.
A R&D Model for Korean SI Companies' International Competitiveness
Lee, Yeon-Hee ; Choi, Jin-Young ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 15~29
This thesis suggests a R&D model for Korean SI companies who aggressively drive oversea business to overcome domestic market limitation and to become world class SI players. Even though there have been a lot of discussions on IT technologies and new business models, scientific approach to a R&D model for SI companies is rare due to its natural distinctiveness from manufacturing and general service domain. Therefore, this will be a flagship thesis to keep up our study. As business market environment gets more competitive, major Korean SI players will be confronted with much more keen competition among themselves. And as they are willing to expand their oversea market presence, they can not help struggling against global SI players. So, here we are presenting SI players the reinforcement of R&D as one of the key components to build up their own core competencies. That is, SI players have to adopt and evaluate fast changing and complicated IT technologies at the right time, and to apply them into a real business with cost-effective service delivery and operation processes internally. The ultimate purpose of all of these activities is to offer a SI company the value added business model based on its innovative technical capabilities and well refined service deliver model. For this purpose, we suggests, SI company's R&D has to play an important role of emerging technology verification/evaluation/utilization, value added business model creation, future innovation lead, standard body participation, and effective service delivery and quality system development. To become a more effective R&D organization, hybrid R&D, in which central R&D and divisional sub R&D work together, is considered as an idea model. The reliability of the R&D model for Korean SI companies', here we suggest, has been checked by SI companies R&D specialists and on-site business people.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 39~51
The Internet affects all economic activities. Physical world business must either adopt new digital strategies, launch new digital business to complement their physical world models, or be forced to completely revise their strategies. The purpose of this paper is to provide a framework that organizes the managerial decision-making process to assist managers in crafting and implementing e-business strategy. We applied the methodology to the case of KNK Educational Institute to explain the process. Core competence of KNK JUNIOR is researched according to our suggested methodology and activities and roles of KNK JUNIOR have been arranged.
An Architecture of the P2P based e-Business Platform for Multimedia Content Distribution
Cho, Dai-Yon ; Lee, Kyoung-Jun ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 53~62
Current P2P (Peer-to-Peer) applications have the limited functions such as file search and transfer between peers and have the limitations such as trust problem on search results, copyright problem, and profitable business model problem. For a P2P application to be used as a business platform for the distribution of various multimedia contents, this paper proposes an extended P2P application architecture and its prototype system including distributed collaborative filtering, automated price negotiation system, and payment mechanism.
Design of Rule-based System for Insurance Product
Kim, Do-Hyung ; Oh, Young-Bae ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 63~73
Insurance system has a lot of decision factors which are affected by the kinds of insurance products. and has the features of many exceptions. Since in applying the product attributes to the current system the value definition through tables and the exception treatment logic (if then else) are used in parallel, the cost of a product change and a new product development becomes increased and the prompt market reaction is difficult. In this paper, we propose the well formed rule base system which makes data for the business logic of insurance attributes and discuss the benefit of application of this system to the real project.

Development of e-Mail Classifiers for e-Mail Response Management Systems
Kim, Kuk-Pyo ; Kwon, Young-S. ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 87~95
With the increasing proliferation of World Wide Web, electronic mail systems have become very widely used communication tools. Researches on e-mail classification have been very important in that e-mail classification system is a major engine for e-mail response management systems which mine unstructured e-mail messages and automatically categorize them. in this research we develop e-mail classifiers for e-mail Response Management Systems (ERMS) using naive bayesian learning and centroid-based classification. We analyze which method performs better under which conditions, comparing classification accuracies which may depend on the structure, the size of training data set and number of classes, using the different data set of an on-line shopping mall and a credit card company. The developed e-mail classifiers have been successfully implemented in practice. The experimental results show that naive bayesian learning performs better, while centroid-based classification is more robust in terms of classification accuracy.
Policy-based Security System Modeling using Vulnerable Information
Sea, Hee-Suk ; Kim, Dong-Soo ; Kim, Hee-Wan ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 97~109
As the importance and the need for network security is increased, many organization uses the various security systems. They enable to construct the consistent integrated security environment by sharing the vulnerable information among firewall, intrusion detection system, and vulnerable scanner. And Policy-based network provides a means by which the management process can be simplified and largely automated. In this article we build a foundation of policy-based network modeling environment. The procedure and structure for policy rule induction from vulnerabilities stored in SVDB (Simulation based Vulnerability Data Based) is conducted. It also transforms the policy rules into PCIM (Policy Core Information Model).

Yoon, Sung-Chul ; Lee, Seul ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 2, issue 2, 2003, Pages 121~134
To improve the quality of the services and to concentrate on the core capability, in public sector the IT outsourcing is recently being vitalized by the institutional support of the government for the entrusting non-government. Because the lots of general studies so far have simply focused on indicating fragmentary factors i.e. economical factors, risk factors, system factors, or induction objects, etc., they are insufficient in making the practical decisions, therefore we indicated systemized model extending over the whole range of the IT outsourcing to support substantial decision makings, and assorted 4 categories and drew considerable 55 factors from the literature study to materialize the previously considerable factors at each decision making stage. And the principal factors were drawn from each decision making category by a group of 11 experts. Besides, a henceforth plan for the application was also presented through an actual example of the IT outsourcing decision making process of 'M', a public enterprise.
