Park, Yong-Sung ; Cho, Min-Je ; Choi, Hyung-Rim ; Kim, Hyun-Soo ; Hong, Soon-Goo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 1~12
The development of IT and explosively growing number of Internet users are rapidly spreading and developing e-commerce, while creating diverse on-line transaction methods such as a negotiation, a reverse auction, and a bid. Among these transaction methods, the transactions by means of a negotiation are being made for goods that have no posted price. In particular, the transactions by means of a negotiation are expected to be widely used in the B2B. In order to determine their transportation costs, shippers usually make negotiations with many transporters and logistics companies. And before long, these negotiations are expected to be made on an on-line automated negotiation system. Because of this, this study has tried to develop an automated negotiation methodology that is absolutely necessary for an on-line automated negotiation. This study has estimated and selected the evaluation functions for multi-lateral negotiators' proposals, thus developing an automated negotiation methodology. As a result of this study, a new direction for an automated negotiation has been suggested. Also we expect that this study will be widely used in the automated negotiation of diverse fields.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 13~23
This research is to study the core factors for knowledge information database service and very important database service quality factors to improve customer satisfaction. The database service quality has been critical issue rather than just information service in these days, because the qualitative aspect is becoming more important factors rather than quantitative aspect. As database service quality has been influenced by satisfaction of database user, it needs to try to get excellent results by enhancing ability to obtain information. In order to satisfy this condition, it needs to measure database service quality more accurately first. In this study, we apply conjoint analysis to measure how much to give quality condition to achieve customer satisfaction.
The Impact of Using Information Technology Architecture on IT Capability and IT Performance : Focused on Public Agencies
Oh, Seung-Woon ; Kim, Jong-Woo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 25~39
As the amount of IT investment and the complexity of information systems in public agencies have been increased, efficient and structured management of IT systems is more emphasized. For the Korean government. ITA (Information Technology Architecture) is one of the core parts of the e-Government initiative. Also introducing and managing ITA in organizations is mandated by law in Korea. The objective of the paper is to study whether using ITA in public agencies is related with their IT capability and IT performance or not. A questionnaire had been designed for the purpose, and a survey had been performed on Korean public agencies. The survey results show that using ITA has influence on relation and technology capability. However, ITA does not influence on human capability and IT performance. The reason why using ITA is linked to relation and technology capability is that ITA includes relationship between both business and technology. Also ITA provides a technical reference model (TRM) and standard profile (SP), so it has influence on technology capability.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 41~57
The development of service-based software and web-based application aims for providing user-demand service. On-demand software is emerging for same reason. Software delivery models like on-demand software is expected to change the software industry as an important technical revolution with the firm's strategy. Few research, however, has been done on the on-demand software. While much research on ASP and SaaS focused on firm' use, this study intends to examine the intention of using on-demand software targeting personal user. The intention to use of on-demand software was empirically examined in terms of quality, user characteristics, usefulness, easy of use, and security. Results shows that usefulness and easy of use are most significantly related to the intention of using on-demand software. Other factors are also found to affect the intention to use of on-demand software. This study contributes to improve the understanding and interest in on-demand software and it is expected to spread widely for individual user.
First Mover Advantage in the Internet Marketplace
Lee, Sang-Myung ; Choi, Jeong-Il ; Lee, Kwon-Chul ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 59~75
Despite our extensive understanding on the Internet business and widely understood first-mover advantage. it is not clearly answered yet whether an internet firm can enjoy the first-mover advantage in the new environment of the Internet. This is mainly because the Internet marketplace itself has a complex combination of various business models, ranging from a simple channel-extension to a whole new business model. Based on new theoretical development on the first-mover advantage, we empirically test whether being an early mover in the Internet environment materially affects firm performance, using clickstream data from Korea where broadband Internet installation is ranked as top among OECD countries. Our results show the effectiveness of first-mover advantage on the web does not exist, regardless of its business model and competitive environment. This result expands our understandings on the e-business, not to mention of the real feature of first-mover advantage.
Web Accessibility Compliance of Internet Bankings in Korea
Hyun, Joon-Ho ; Kim, Byung-Cho ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 77~93
According to the statistics revealed by Bank of Korea on March, 2007, Internet banking transactions outnumbered face-to-face banking services in Korea. Internet banking is becoming essential in every financial service sectors. For people with disabilities, Internet banking is more meaningful because they do not need to visit the bank, thereby saving inconvenient trips. Governments in many countries are working on setting standards and laws on the web accessibility for people with disabilities. Korea government enacted Korea Disability Discrimination Act in 2007. This paper examined the web accessibility compliance of Internet banking sites. Twenty one Internet banking sites were selected from the list in the Korea Federation of Banks's Web sites. We examined four major checkpoints that are considered crucial among the fourteen checkpoints in "Internet Web Contents Accessibility Guidelines" which was amended by Ministry of the information and Communication in 2005. The results showed that all of the twenty one Internet banking sites didn't meet the four major checkpoint requirements. Moreover, only one banking site satisfied alt-text requirement that is considered the most fundamental among the checkpoints.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 113~125
To test if the developed ubiquitous health care devices working well and vital information could be collected and monitored systematically through internet and to test if the devices and services could be used further. Kyungwon University, KT Co., Gil Medical Center, LIG Nex1 Co., and Sujeong Health Center conducted an ubiquitous health care demonstration project in Sujeong-Gu, Sungnam, Korea from Mar. 5 to May 16. We developed and applied several medical devices to monitor health of the elderly in their houses through internet. The devices were sphygmomanometer, glucometer, body fat scale, Health Pad, and activity sensor. We distributed the devices to 20 recipients of home care and 7 diabetes patients. After received the devices and were explained how to use them, they used the devices in their houses. The vital signs of the residents were monitored through internet. A nurse monitored and consulted their vital signs in the monitoring center in Kyungwon University during the demonstration period. The consultant called them and consulted on their blood pressure, blood sugar level, and body fat after a few seconds they used the devices as well as provision of recommended contents such as diets and activities through Health Pad. To investigate cognition and satisfaction of the participants for the devices, we surveyed the participants at the end of the demonstration period. For the change in blood pressure, blood sugar level, and activities, we conducted statistical test. After the demonstration period. cognition and satisfaction for the devices and change in blood pressure, blood sugar level, and activities were evaluated. Most of the participants were acknowledged how to use the device and satisfied with the use of the devices. The internet monitoring and services are considered to be promising because most of the participants were satisfied especially because somebody was monitoring their health status. However some weaknesses such as short battery life of the activity sensor, lack of connection of consultations with hospitals, and low understanding on usage of some of the devices need to be complemented.
Effect on Preprocessing in SAT with Sudoku Puzzle
Kwon, Gi-Hwon ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 127~135
The concept of preprocessing is widely used in various computer science area such as compiler and software engineering for the purpose of macro processing and optimization. In addition, preprocessing is also used in SAT solvers in order to eliminate redundant literals and clauses to speed up its solving time before searching the state space. However, there is an unexpected run-time error such as stack-overflow during this step, in case the size of a given set of clauses is huge which impedes SAT solvers. In this case, the preprocessing should be applied at the encoding time to optimize its size. In this paper this idea is applied to several Sudoku problems. As a result, significant improvements are obtained with respect to the number of variables and clauses as well as the solving time compared to the previous works.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 137~148
This paper measures and compares the traffic of a series of Massively Multi-player On-line Role Playing Game (MMORPG). The purpose of this analysis is to characterize the MMORPG traffic and compare the traffic characteristics of those games caused by the game structure difference between 2D and 3D environment. The target game is 'Lineage I' and 'Lineage II' which represent world's largest MMORPGs in terms of the number of concurrent users. We collect about 280 giga bytes and 1 tera bytes of packet headers, respectively. We compare packet size, packet inter-arrival time and bandwidth usage of these two games. The MMORPG traffic consists of two kinds of packets: client-generated upstream packets and server-generated downstream packets. We observe that the upstream packet size of payload has grown from 9 bytes to 19 bytes, while the average payload size of downstream packets has grown from 37 bytes to 318 bytes. This asymmetry of growing rate is caused by 3D game structure. Packet inter-arrival time becomes shorter from average 2 milliseconds to 58 microseconds. Bandwidth consumption per client has grown from 4 kbps to 20 kbps. We find that there is a linear relationship between the number of users and the bandwidth usage in both case.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 149~164
As the computing landscape is shifting to ubiquitous computing environments, there is increasingly growing the demand for a variety of device controls that react to user's implicit activities without excessively drawing user attentions. We developed an EMG-based car interface that enables the physically handicapped to drive a car using their functioning peripheral nerves. Our method extracts electromyogram signals caused by wrist movements from four places in the user's forearm and then infers the user's intent from the signals using multi-layered neural nets. By doing so, it makes it possible for the user to control the operation of car equipments and thus to drive the car. It also allows the user to enter inputs into the embedded computer through a user interface like an instrument LCD panel. We validated the effectiveness of our method through experimental use in a car built with the EMG-based interface.

Park, Ki-Ho ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 165~180
Although a number of studies concerning the performance of information system (hereafter, IS) have been performed, those in governmental organizations have rarely conducted. Moreover, there were not many that the perceptual level of individuals might have influence on the information system performance actually. This study tried to investigate the causal relationship between personal perceptual level on the operation and performance of IS, as a result of project for public innovation which deployed in a governmental organization. The targeted IS is for task management. Our survey's respondents are real users in a governmental organization. As a result of statistical analysis, the affecting factors, the perceptual level of individuals such as task process standardization, training and system education, and the active participation of manager positively affected system performance. The result of study can provide some implications to the governmental organizations who want to improve the system performance and efficiently operate their own IS for achieving the organizational goals.
An Efficient Recovery Method for Mobile Main Memory Database System
Cho, Sung-Je ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 2, 2008, Pages 181~195
The rapid growth of mobile communication technology has provided the expansion of mobile internet services, particularly mobile realtime transaction takes much weight among mobile fields. There is an increasing demand for various mobile applications to process transactions in a mobile computing fields. Thus, During transmission in wireless networks a base station failure inevitably causes data loss of the base station buffer. It is required to compensate the loss for communication. The existing methods for a base station failure are not adequate because they all suffer from too much overhead and resolve only the link failure. In this paper, we study an efficient recovry systems for a mobile DBMS. We propose SLL (Segment Log List) that enables the mobile host to compensate data loss efficiently in the case of base station failure. In SLL, a base station deliveries an output information of data cells to a mobile host. when a base station fails, the mobile host can retransmit just next data cells. We also prove the efficiency of new method.
