A Study on Decision Making Process of Impulsive Buying on the Internet
Oh, Jong-Chul ; Yoon, Sung-Joon ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 1~19
This study began with the proposition that, compared to the impulse buying in the conventional offline market, consumers will exhibit a different process of decision-making for impulse buying on the Internet as it has become easier to acquire information and purchase goods which are offered online like digital contents goods. To verify this roposition, this study attempted to find out the external and internal factors as that affect the impulse buying behavior by incorporating Theory of Planned Behavior In addition, this study seeks to confirm the role of alternative's attractiveness in terms of mediating between internal and internal factors affecting impulse buying. The major purpose of this study was to understand Impulse Buying Intention(IBI) for digital contents on the internet. The results of the this study showed that the behavior of impulse buying can be explained with the information searching in which the external factors for the marketing of digital contents affect the internal stimulation factors. It was also found that the impulse buying of digital contents on the Internet starts with non-planned impulse at the problem recognition stage, but planned decision-making will take over when it is proven to be effective with information searching.

Lee, Dong-Hoon ; Lee, Sang-Kon ; Lee, Ji-Yeon ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 21~43
This paper develops the research model for the understanding of learner's usage intention in web based collaborative learning(WBCL) system. This model is based on the Davis' Technology Acceptance Model(TAM) and Social Interactivity Theory. Data is collected 225 University students from two different institutions. They were divided into 46 groups and asked to complete an online TOEIC preparation module using WBCL systems over 4 weeks. Data were collected at three points for each participant-before, 3 weeks after, and at the end of the online module. The result show that TAM based Belief factors(Usefulness, Ease of use, Playfulenss) are important determinants of usage intention in WBCL systems. The study also found the external factors of the extended TAM to be subjective norm, leader's enthusiasm in WBCL context.
A Study on ITA(Information Technology Architecture) Framework for Networked Enterprises
Kim, Duk-Hyun ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 45~60
Networked enterprise (NE) is an organization of independent companies that collaborate with each other temporary or permanently for accomplishing common goals. The USA and EU have been developing principal concepts, techniques, and solutions to enhance the competitiveness of traditional industries including small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs). In Korea, however, implementation as well as R&D of NE is very few, which we believe comes from lack of understanding on Its meaning and lack of effective information systems for it. This paper is to suggest an Enterprise Architecture (EA) framework or reference model of NE and an Information Technology Architecture (ITA) of NE. The EA framework will help stakeholder of NE (e,g., policy makers, members of NE, IT solution providers, and researchers) understand structural and behavioral characteristics of NE. The ITA will be used as a guideline of developing information systems for NE that is essential for spreading networked business models, The focus of this paper is not on logical-level design but on conceptual-level modeling of NE. As verification of the suggested framework and architecture is still required, so we'll apply them to various manifestations of NE, e.g., dynamic supply chain, vertical integration of extended enterprises, and P2P-style virtual enterprises.

Park, Seong-Jin ; Park, Sung-Kong ; Park, Hwa-Gyoo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 87~99
As the technologies for telecommunication have been evolving, more enhanced information services and integrated information systems have been introduced, which can manage a variety of information from the heterogeneous systems. The major obstacle for the integrated information systems is the integrating heterogeneous databases in the systems and the heterogeneity problems can be classified into the structural and data heterogeneities. However, the previous researches have mainly highlighted into the solving structural heterogeneity problems. This paper identifies the data heterogeneity problems for multi-database schema integrations and proposes a new solving method. We analyze the semantics equivalence in data values based on the functional dependency, primary and candidate keys, and present a procedural solution of data heterogeneity in the perspective of the concept of attribute equivalence, integration key and conceptual integration table.

Lee, Sang-Ho ; Cho, Sung-Rim ; Ahn, Byung-Oh ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 151~165
This study suggests the organization-level standard(model and process) for quality evaluation of information systems(IS) in non-use organizations despite international standards(ISO/IEC 9126 and ISO/IEC 14598) and national standards(KS X 9126 and KS X 14598) related to quality evaluation of IS. The standard in this study is composed of quality evaluation processes, a quality model, and quality metrics. The weights of the attributes and the sub-attributes in the quality model were calculated by an analytic hierarchy process(AHP). The minimum level and the target level of each metrics were determined by brainstorming of the committee. Furthermore, the case study for the investigation of the applicability and the usability of the suggested organizational standard in the real IS development project was performed. For gaining significant benefits of the standard, both the diffusion and the experience accumulation by its continuous use are needed.

Paik, Su-Ki ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 167~178
This paper addresses the issue of workflow on Grid and P2P, and proposes a layered workflow architecture and its related workflow models that are used for not only distributing workflows' information onto Grid or P2P resources but also scheduling the enactment of workflows. Especially, the most critical rationale of this paper is on the fact that the nature of Grid computing environment is fitted very well into building a platform for the maximally parallel and very large scale workflows that are frequently found in very large scale enterprises. The layered architecture proposed in this paper, which we call Enterprise Workflow Grid Architecture, is targeting on maximizing the usability of computing facilities in the enterprise as well as the scalability of its underlined workflow management system in coping with massively parallel and very large scale workflow applications.
Classification Scheme of Usability Problems : Literature Review and New Conceptual Framework
Ham, Dong-Han ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 179~198
It is widely known that usability is a critical quality attribute of IT systems. Many studies have developed various methods for finding out usability problems. Usability professionals have emphasized that usability should be integrated into the development life cycle in order to maximize the usability of systems with minimal cost. To achieve this, it is essential to classify usability problems systematically and connect them into the activities of designing user interfaces and tasks. However, there is a lack of framework or method for these two problems and thus remains a challengeable research issue. As a beginning study, this paper proposes a conceptual framework for addressing the two issues. We firstly summarize usability-related studies so far, including usability factors and evaluation methods. Secondly, we review seven approaches to identifying and classifying usability problems. Based on this review and opinions of usability engineers in real industry as well as the review results, this paper proposes a framework comprising three viewpoints, from which more sound classification scheme of usability problems can be inductively developed.
A Design and Development of A Related Tag Clustering Algorithm
Park, Byoung-Jae ; Woo, Chong-Woo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 199~208
Tagging represents one of the Web 2.0 technology, and has an appropriate mechanism for the classification of dynamically changing Web informations. This technique is capable of searching the Web informations using the user specified tags, but still it has a limitation of providing only the limited informations to the tags. Therefore, in order to search the related informations easily, we need to extend this technique further to search not only the desired informations through the designated tags and also the related informations. In this paper, we first have designed and developed an algorithm that can get a desired tag cluster, which is capable of collecting the searched tags along with the related tags. We first performed a test to compare the difference between the user collected tag data through RSS and the reduced data. The second test focused on the accuracy of extracted related tags that depends on the similarity functions, such as the Pearson Correlation and Euclidean. Finally, we showed the final results visually using the graph algorithm.
Improving Performance of HPC Clusters by Including Non-Dedicated Nodes on a LAN
Park, Pil-Seong ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 209~219
Recently the number of Internet firms providing useful information like weather forecast data is growing. However most of such information is not prepared in accordance with customers' demand, resulting in relatively low customer satisfaction. To upgrade the service quality, it is recommended to devise a system for customers to get involved in the process of service production, which normally requires a huge investment on supporting computer systems like clusters. In this paper, as a way to cut down the budget for computer systems but to improve the performance, we extend the HPC cluster system to include other Internet servers working independently on the same LAN, to make use of their idle times. We also deal with some issues resulting from the extension, like the security problem and a possible deadlock caused by overload on some non-dedicated nodes. At the end, we apply the technique in the solution of some 2D grid problem.
Algorithm for Computing J Relations in the Monoid of Boolean Matrices
Han, Jae-Il ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 221~230
Green's relations are five equivalence relations that characterize the elements of a semigroup in terms of the principal ideals. The J relation is one of Green's relations. Although there are known algorithms that can compute Green relations, they are not useful for finding all J relations in the semigroup of all
Boolean matrices. Its computation requires multiplication of three Boolean matrices for each of all possible triples of
Boolean matrices. The size of the semigroup of all
Boolean matrices grows exponentially as n increases. It is easy to see that it involves exponential time complexity. The computation of J relations over the
Boolean matrix is left an unsolved problem. The paper shows theorems that can reduce the computation time, discusses an algorithm for efficient J relation computation whose design reflects those theorems and gives its execution results.
The Study on Goal Driven Personalized e-Learning System Design Based on Modified SCORM Standard
Lee, Mi-Joung ; Park, Jong-Sun ; Kim, Ki-Seok ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 231~246
This paper suggests an e-learning system model, a goal-driven personalized e-learning system, which increase the effectiveness of learning. An e-learning system following this model makes the learner choose the learning goal. The learner's choice would lead learning. Therefore, the system enables a personalized adaptive learning, which will raise the effectiveness of learning. Moreover, this paper proposes a SCORM standard, which modifies SCORM 2004 that has been insufficient to implement the "goal driven personalized e-learning system." We add a data model representing the goal that motivates learning, and propose a standard for statistics on learning objects usage. We propose each standard for contents model and sequencing information model which are parts of "goal driven personalized e-learning system." We also propose that manifest file should be added for the standard for contents model, and the file which represents the information of hierarchical structure and general learning paths should be added for the standard for sequencing information model. As a result, the system could sequence and search learning objects. We proposed an e-learning system and modified SCORM standards by considering the many factors of adaptive learning. We expect that the system enables us to optimally design personalized e-learning system.
A Study on Development of Integration Performance Measurement Model for Each Stage of Information Systems Integration and Measurement Indicators of Physical Integration Stage
Jung, Hae-Yong ; Ra, Jong-Hei ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 247~268
This study aims to develop an integration performance measurement model for each stage of information systems integration. In order to achieve the purpose of the research, first of all, the concepts of IS integration or consolidation are analyzed through theoretical and practical reviews. Also, a number of important studies of domestic and overseas cases about the stage models of IS integration or consolidation are critically reviewed. Second, we proposed three step stage model of is integration, Physical Integration stage, Application Integration stage, Service Integration stage, and Also proposed the performance measurement model for each stage of information systems integration. Third, especially in case of performance indicators and performance measurement methodology for physical integration stage are illustratively proposed, based upon the case of NCIA (National Computing Integration Agency) in Korea. This study provides the theoretical basis for reasonably deriving the stage model and performance measurement model for each stage of Information Systems Integration, and they are validating through investigating domestic and foreign practices. The results of this study are very likely to contribute to presenting the practical guideline for desirably implementing is integration or IS consolidation.
A Scientific Approach for the Design and Service Productivity
Kim, Hyun-Soo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 269~285
Design productivity can't be easily measured since there are so many different design productivity factors but such a few meaningful design product units. It's very difficult to evaluate the performance of design activities. Performance measures are not defined easily and are not measured correctly in many cases. So, in this paper the value added productivity is used to measure and analyze design productivity. Some issues are analysed to assess real productivity level of Korean service industry. And then we propose a few ways to Improve design productivity including the use of scientific approach at design processes and the change of the industry structure. It seems that the higher the level of IT(Information Technology) usage at a design industry is, the higher the design productivity is. Further research will be needed to investigate scientific approaches to increase design productivity.
A Critical Examination of Recent Studies On the Definition of Services
Seo, Hwan-Joo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 287~300
Our Study aims to examine, from a critical perspective, recent approaches to the definition of services, Studies that deal with the question of how to characterize services offer three types of response. The first approach developed by classical economists proposes to use technical criteria (immateriality, non-separability between consumption and production, non-storage, heterogeneity) as foundation for a specific definition of services. The second, which is today most widely cited definition, that of Peter Hill proposes an institutional or a relation-oriented definition which emphasizes service triangle. Finally, the work of Gadrey, which investigates the impact of new technologies on service activities, offers a new general definition of services that is compatible with the existence of several demand rationales.
The Role of Communication in Linking IT and Logistics Service
Lee, Min-Ho ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 7, issue 4, 2008, Pages 301~317
Product-related services in manufacturing industry are different from typical services in service industry. Product-related services ensure proper product functioning, provide additional repurchase, and offer attractive margin Product-related services in manufacturing industry are not core activity but taking supporting roles, while services in typical service industry are core parts. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of communication in linking IT and product-related logistics service in manufacturing industry. The relationships among IT, communication, logistics service and business performance are explored using a path analysis. The empirical research reveals that higher degree of IT usability leads to increased communication, and in turn, communication affects logistics service, and ultimately business performance. In addition, this study shows communication plays an intermediate role in linking IT to logistics service.
