Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 1~9
It is essential for companies to manage massive data for dealing with large volume of transactions and customers' needs. To this end, the companies have operated data warehouse with many complex tools for data gathering and reporting to the end-users. However, the data from the heterogeneous tools at the various sources cannot be exchanged because of the different interfaces. Therefore, the data cannot be controlled with integrated manner, and furthermore the companies do not focus the quality of data resulting in the data quality problem. Thus, this study suggests how to manage massive data with a metadata. In particular, we investigate current status of metadata management, its appliance, and perspectives. The contribution of this research is to apply the metadata management system to the real world and to suggest its management procedure.
An Empirical Study on Consumer's Continued Use of IPTV Service
Jin, Jing ; Lee, Dong-Won ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 11~27
Recently, IPTV attracts great attention along with the digital convergence of communication and media technologies. This study examined critical factors on the consumer's continued use of the IPTV service. Based on the expectation-confirmation theory and the innovation diffusion theory, we derived nine key factors in the research model-relative advantage, compatibility, ease of use, image, diversity of contents, interactivity, monetary value, social influence, and user satisfaction. Using the partial least square method, we found that content diversity and compatibility have a significant indirect effect on the continued use of the IPTV service via user satisfaction, and user satisfaction and social influence also have a significant direct impact on the IPTV use. These findings not only provide practical insights on the consumer acceptance of new technology-converging services, but also help managers to plan their marketing strategies better.

Lee, Do-Koung ; You, Jae-Hyun ; Park, Cheol ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 29~45
In this research, a model to measure the correlation between the performance of customer contact center and the business performance is developed using the well-known model, the market damage model of TARP. Three hypotheses are suggested and verified using real customer profit data and customer access data of the Industrial bank of Korea. As a result of this research, we know that there is a positive relation between increase of business profit and contact experience of customers to customer contact center. Also, customer satisfaction level for customer contact center contact experience is positively correlated with increase of business profit of the company. However, we could not find a meaningful correlation result between number of contacts to customer contact center and the business profit. Although this study is based on a particular one company data, the analyzation framework can be applicable to other banking companies for showing relations between performance of customer contact center and business profit of the company.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 47~58
The information protection security diagnosis institution was applied services since 2004, for the leveling up of public information protection and the establishment of the stability and reliability of information communication. And this security diagnosis was implemented actually on the 142 firms in 2005, the 160 firms in 2006 and the 205 firms in 2007. But this is recognized by the some firms as one of the unnecessary regulations. And there are some difficulties with collecting the subjective and reliable source data for establishing the information protection security diagnosis target. In this research, the enhanced model on the selection of information protection security diagnosis target firms was suggested by the interview with some expert and the analysis for the related actual data. By the model which are introduced from the statistical analysis of the related data and the summary of some expert's suggestions, information protection security diagnosis target can include the information telecommunication service providers taking 5 billion won as sales in a year, and web service providers like as shopping mall site, with the personal records of 2 million subscribers.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 73~97
The IT implementation literature suggests that various implementation factors play critical roles in the success of an information system; however, there is little empirical research about the implementation of data warehousing systems has unique characteristics that may impact the importance of factors that apply to it. In this study, a cross-sectional survey investigated a model of data warehousing success. Data warehousing managers and data suppliers from 51 organizations completed paired mail questionnaires on implementation factors and the success of the warehouse. The purpose of this study is to identify which factors have a positive impact on the successful implementation of DW among organizational implementation success, project implementation success, and technical implementation success which are selected as implementation factors of DW. To do so, this study comprehensively analyze the previous studies on the success factors of the information system and DW to develop the study model and set the hypothesized. Then, it verified the hypothesis via the empirical analysis after collecting the materials through the survey. Finally, the discussion of the study's results, offered the implications of the findings, and the conclusions of the findings followed.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 99~111
Rapid growth of Management Information System (MIS) and evolution of software system enlarge maintenance necessity and it needs a process to implement information system service in business. This paper proposes service-oriented maintenance process of component software based on service design and implementation provided by existing processes for maintenance, MaRMI-RE and ITIL. The proposed process derives activities and tasks of the process by identifying services according to service guidelines. Service-oriented maintenance process is produced by analyzing correlation between the derived activities and tasks and MaRMI-RE's and adding the tasks to MaRMI-RE. To verify availability of the proposed service-oriented maintenance process, correlation between artifacts is proved.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 113~124
Value-based requirements engineering process, called The ViRE(Value-Innovative Requirement Engineering) was suggested to create an uncontested market using ERRC(Eliminate, Reduce, Raise, Create) requirements analysis. But ViRE did not provides a quantitative data analysis method for ERRC decision so as to make objective decisions for customers. In this paper, to solve this problem, we suggest a quantitative ERRC analysis method by estimating requirements cost. Our method defines user requirements and decides their weight. Then, it makes quality level table for all the identified requirements and function modules and estimate implementation cost based on their quality levels. Finally, assess each requirement's impact and then evaluate ERRC value. We could get the more objective ERRC values by evaluate the requirement weight. functional module weight, and implementation cost. And we proved the efficiency of our model by a case study, smart student ID system.

The Ministry of Information and Communication announced "The Guideline for Management of Software Project" in October 2006. The public employees(acquirer) have to manage software projects with this guideline. The guideline was based on the International standard(ISO/IEC 12207) and IEEE standard(IEEE/EIA 12207), and was developed by considering the domestic software industry environment. The guideline can help to establish a software acquisition process for appropriate management of software projects, and the process can increase the management productivity of software projects. This study provides the explanation about the guideline with terms of 5W1H(who(user), what(summary), when(time to apply), where(domain of application), why(objective), how(method of use)) for understanding of the guideline.
An Empirical Study on the Challenge of Maintaining Knowledge Pieces in KMS(Knowledge Management System)
Lee, Ook ; Ahn, Jong-Chang ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 143~163
The study investigates the challenge of knowledge maintenance in the KMSs. Knowledge pieces are the embodiment of structures in an organization and need to be modified tuned to environmental change over time. Since the change of knowledge in the KMS is not made automatically, it requires user's active participation which is called maintenance action. This study shows that users are not voluntary in taking maintenance action with empirical data based upon knowledge pieces that are already established in the KMS. This article shows that the intention of maintaining KMS is negatively influenced by KM-related culture, organizational culture and the authority of knowledge piece rather than the organizational demography. An organizational culture has an influence directly upon the intention of maintaining knowledge but influence upon KM-related culture or the authority of knowledge piece, the influence indirectly related to the intention of maintaining knowledge. It can be argued that the organizational demography have only meager influence upon the intention of maintaining knowledge only by KM-related culture. This research has the implication that what factors are to be considered in maintaining knowledge pieces over time for the organization managers.
Review of Diverse IP Mobility Fast Handover Mechanisms and Suggestion of New Fast Handover Proxy Mobile IPv6 Mechanism
Kim, Pyung-Soo ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 165~177
This paper reviews diverse IP mobility and fast handover mechanisms for seamless Internet services. Especially, fast handover mechanisms for the Proxy Mobile IPv6( PMIPv6) are categorized according to their approaches. Then, a new fast handover PMIPv6(FH-PMIPv6) mechanism is proposed using only L3 signaling message exchange. In the proposed FH-PMIPv6 mechanism, only local mobility anchor(LMA) exchanges L3 signaling messages with mobility access gateways(MAGs) for the fast handover operation. That is, inter-MAG signalling messages are not required for the fast handover operation. Therefore, unlike existing fast handover mechanisms, two relevant neighbouring MAGs need not set up the security association(SA) to protect fast handover related signaling messages and share SA related information. Moreover, the L3 triggering message is defined newly by standard ICMPv6 to trigger promptly the proposed mechanism. Analysis and comparison of the handover latency are performed for the proposed mechanism and existing mechanisms, which shows that the proposed FH-PMIPv6 mechanism has the favorable performance.
An Efficient Data Broadcast System Supporting Dynamic Data Request Patterns in Mobile Data Services
Shin, Dong-Cheon ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 179~192
In wireless environments, it is very effective to introduce a data broadcast system for providing a number of clients with mobile data services. In particular, an efficient broadcast scheduling and a caching strategy are very important for performance of data broadcast systems in wireless environments which have such inherent restrictions as low bandwidth, frequent disconnections, and short battery life. In this paper, we present a data broadcast scheduling strategy using bit vectors to cope with dynamic request patterns of clients. In addition, we also propose an efficient caching strategy, 2FWT, that takes characteristics of the broadcast scheduling strategy into account. Finally, we evaluate performance of the data broadcast system. According to the results, the proposed system generally shows better performance than others.
Web Service Connection Management Scheme for Seamless Migration of User Workspace in Cloud Computing
Choi, Min ;
Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 193~202
Cloud computing emerges as a new computing paradigm which targets reliable and customizable services. The term builds on decades of research in virtual machine, distributed and parallel computing, utility computing, and more recently networking, web service, and software as a service. In this paper, we provide a seamless connection migration of web services. This is useful for cloud computing environment in which many client terminals have mobility. With the wireless internet facility, those mobile users can move place to place during internet communication. Therefore, we provide solutions to the two major problems in current virtualization based migration: communication failure problems and connection re-establishment. Communication channel flushing by zero window notification helps to resolve the communication failure problems and TCP port inheritance prevents connection re-establishment errors during socket reconstruction. Thus, our web service migration facility is now able to preserve open network connections, and even for server sockets. This is a highly transparent approach, in that we did not Introduce additional messages for channel flushing and did not make any modification to the TCP protocol stack. Experimental results show that the overhead due to connection migration of web services is almost negligible when compared with time to take the conventional web service migration.

Journal of the Korea society of IT services, volume 8, issue 1, 2009, Pages 203~215
This paper illustrates the application of co-occurrence theory to generate lightweight ontologies semi-automatically. The proposed model includes three steps of a (Semi-) Automatic creation of Ontology; (they are conceptually named as) the Syntactic-based Ontology, the Semantic-based Ontology and the Ontology Refinement. Each of these three steps are designed to interactively work together, so as to generate Lightweight Ontologies. The Syntactic-based Ontology step includes generating Association words using co-occurrence in web documents. The Semantic-based Ontology step includes the Alignment large Association words with small Ontology, through the process of semantic relations by contextual terms. Finally, the Ontology Refinement step includes the domain expert to refine the lightweight Ontologies. We also conducted a case study to generate lightweight ontologies in specific domains(news domain). In this paper, we found two directions including (1) employment co-occurrence theory to generate Syntactic-based Ontology automatically and (2) Alignment large Association words with small Ontology to generate lightweight ontologies semi-automatically. So far as the design and the generation of big Ontology is concerned, the proposed research will offer useful implications to the researchers and practitioners so as to improve the research level to the commercial use.
