A Test on Total Quality Management Practices in South Korea's Environmental Pollution Prevention Industry

We performed the two analyses of variance to determine the total quality management practices in the environmental pollution prevention industry by classifying the companies based on the size (large or medium/small) and on the type (manufacturing or service). A few previous studies reveal that in Korea the large companies are not the same as the medium/small companies in the TQM practices while the practices are not alterated by the type of companies whether manufacturing or service. But in the United States the TQM practices are not affected by the size of the company. Su, pp.rting the previous studies on the Korean industry our studies show that the TQM practices are significantly influenced by the company size, but not by the type of the company. Taking the results of our studies into consideration we would also like to propose a revision of examination criteria for National Quality Management Award with special emphasis given to medium/small companies.
A Study on the A, pp.icability of TQM to Health Care Sector

Total quality management (TQM) is regarded as a tool for improving the competitiveness not only for a manufacturing sector, but also for overall national economy. Especially, TQM is recently implemented in public sector such as goverrment, education, and health care. In this paper, the a, pp.icability of TQM to health care sector is examined. For this study, the movements of TQM implementation in health care sector in developed countries such as United States and Japan are reviewed through literature study. As the result of this study, the TQM model in health care is suggested and the characteristics of the model are explained, and finally several steps to implement TQM in health care are summarized.
An Extension of Quality Function Deployment

Quality function deployment is an interdisciplinary team process of listening to customers to learn exactly what they want, and then using a logical system to determine how best to fulfill those needs with available resources. It is examined how to extend quality function deployment in this paper. The Pugh concept selection method, ACE(Attribute Categorization and Evaluation) Matrix, and an inventive problem solving method called TRIZ are discussed in relation with quality function deployment.
Quality Management in Self-Regulating Capital Market

Three essential components of self-regulating capital market includes trading clearing and regulation. These three procedures have to be excuted in accurate, prompt, and orderly way so that the markets can provide individual investors with confidence. In this study, we review these procedures and discuss how the quality service of them can be related to investor confidence. We will also discuss the details of regulatory process and especially how to monitor the stock price and volume for the detection of their unusual movements as the first procedure of regulation.
A Study on Economic Selection of the Process Target and the Screening Specification Limits in a Continuous Production Process

Consider a production system where all manufactured products are screened through automatic inspection equipment. The products for which the measured value of quality characteristic is larger than the lower screening specification limit (SL) and smaller than the u, pp.r screeing specification limit(SU) are accepted. Those smaller than SL are reworked and those larger than SU are excluded from the process. Assuming that the quality characteristic is normally distributed with known variance, this paper suggests cost models which involve inspection cost, production cost, rework cost, exclusion cost and quality cost, and presents the methods of finding the optimal values of the screening specification limits and the process target. Numerical example is given to demonstrate the a, pp.icability of the cost models suggested in this paper.
Bayesian Estimation of the Reliability and Failure Rate Functions for the Burr Type-？ Failure Model

In this paper, we consider a hierarchical Bayes estimation of the parameter, the reliability and failure rate functions based on type-II censored samples from a Burr type-？ failure time model. The Gibbs sampler a, pp.oach brings considerable conceptual and computational simplicity to the calculation of the posterior marginals and reliability. A numerical study is provided.
The Reliability Estimation of Parallel System in Bivariate Exponential Model : Using Bivariate Type 1 Censored Data

In this paper, we obtain maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) of a parallel system reliability for the Marshall and Olkin's bivariate exponential model with birariate type 1 consored data. The asymptotic normal distribution of the estimator is obtained. Also we construct an a, pp.oximate confidence interval for the reliability based on MLE. We present a numerical study for obtaining MLE and a, pp.oximate confidence interval of the reliability.
A Note on Generalized Signal-to-Noise Ratios

For quality improvement, it is important to reduce variations of the quality characteristic. That can be achieved by the a, pp.ication of parameter design methodology to make the performance of the quality characteristic robust over the variety of noise conditions. Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratios for that purpose. For the static target characteristic and the dynamic characteristic problem, we propose a reasonable generalized SN ratio and p-value plot for identifying dispersion factors. The orginal idea of the p-value plot in from the gamma-plot in Lunani, Nair & Wasserman(1995). The graphic advantage of the p-value polt for identifying dispersion factors is illustrated through constructed examples.
Nonparametric Estimation of Renewal Function

We consider a nonparametric estimation of the renewal function. In this paper, we suggest modified methods for Frees's estimator to enhance the efficiency. The methods are based on a piecewise linearization and on the fact that the bounded monotonic functions converging pointwise to the bounded monotonic continuous function converge uniformly. In a simulation study, we show that the modified methods have the better efficiency than that introduced by Frees.
The Family Approach to Nonparametric Estimation of the Regression Function

The smoothing parameter or bandwidth is crucial to performance of the kernel based regression estimator. So the choice of a "optimal" smoothing parameter produce a single curve estimate. If a single estimate is replaced by a family of estimates, it become easy that we understand what varies with choice of the smoothing parameter. This paper suggests the threshold of the maximum bandwidth and the number of the family members in the regression context.n context.
Quality Evaluation of Engineering Computer Programs Using Software Quality Metrics

SQM (Software Quality Metrics) is a methodology whose primary objective is the measurement of compliances to requirements using a set of software life cycle properties called quality factors, which is based on the hierachical relationshiips between factors, criteria and elements. For this study, two factors (Correctness, Maintainability) and five criteria were selected. In addition, several tens of quality elements were developed to su, pp.rt them. Qualities of three computer programs which are being used for engineering purpose were measured. As a result, it is concluded that SQM is a valuable method for continuously monitoring the pulse of software quality development and that it can be used as a tool for software quality assurance.
A Study on The Development of Environment Manual Management System

In EMS(environmental management system), environmental documents are very important elements to achieve ISO 14000 series certification. A organization or company which hope to acquire the certification must prescribe daily operation procedure and document them properly. Also these documents must be updated in new version. Especially, environment manual, describing EMS factors and correlation between them, is a basic document system. Therefore, a proper manual management tool help a organization or company to reduce the efforts to establish and to revise documents. So, in this paper we will present environment manual management system using database and a, pp.ication computer program.
Protection and Defence of Manufacturing Company for Production Liability Law

In this paper, we explain Production Liability(PL) law and research Protection and Deference of Manufacturing Company for Production Liability Law. As Protection of Manufacturing company for PL law, we suggest company wide strategy and check list of organization of PL, design, manufacturing field, explanatory note, warning and instruct passage, sales and after service etc as TQM(total quality management) strategic. TQM of protect management of PL, which are all systematic manage of company. We also suggest defence of PL law as inside of company and insure PL insurance as outside of company.
A Comparative Survey on Quality Management Activities of Each Industry to Strengthen Competitive Power of Small-medium Companies -Centering Pusan Area-

This survey research investigates how the small and medium industries in Pusan area have considered quality management activities in an effort to strengthen their competitive power. It first develops a set of significant questionnaires anddistributes them to a select group of small and medium regional industries. The survey results are analyzed based on both Cronbach's Alpha value and
test. This study shows that the awareness level of quality management varies according to the type of industrial field. This study also proposes that a, pp.opriate quality management strategies are necessary for the regional industries in pusan.
Development of an Interactive Graphic-Aided Decision Su, pp.rt System for Designing Inspection Plans

The primary objective of this paper is to develop an interactive computer graphic aided decision su, pp.rt system for the design of inspection plans for complex production systems. This research first develops a computer simulator, called Simulator for Inspection Systems(SIS), in order to represent the production system as a network model. The simulator elicits fundamental information about the system from the decision maker(DM) in an interactive manner. A decision su, pp.rt system is then proposed by combining SIS and Compromise Programming. The system simulates a set of possible inspection strategies implicitly, observes all the important measurements about the inspection system, and employs the compromise programming a, pp.oach to help the DM determine the best compromising allocation of inspection effort considering his/her preferences. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is evaluated using two test cases. The pros and cons of the system are also discussed.
A Reliability Information Model Using IDEF1

Reliability management requires many activities such as conceptual design, detail design, reliability evaluation and analysis, life testing, and environmental screening, etc.. To perform these activities effectively, a lot of information are required : information for failure mechanism, failure modes, part characteristics, and environmental conditions, etc.. These information should be managed to be used effectively and accurately in reliability activities and feedback to product design and manufacturing. This study identified and characterized these information and classified them according to the reliability activities commonly adopted in many manufacturing industries. IDEF1 was used to define and characterize the flow and the relationship of these reliability information and model is proposed which represents the structure of reliability information systems. The proposed model can be used as a basis for developing reliability management softwares.
Estimation of Reliability for a Two-Component Shared Parallel Systems Using System Life Data

This paper considers the problem of estimating parameters and reliability of shared parallel system with two identical components using type II censored system life data. Likelihood functions are derived and maximum likelihood estimates of parameters and reliability are discussed numerically.
