Improving the Performance of Market Surveillance

Since Black Monday there has been a rash of systems developments which aimed at automating and upgrading the surveillance mechanism of monitoring the many facets of security trading. A more sophisticated mathematical model for detecting abnormal trading activities was created by Davis and Ord of Penn State along with Nobel prize laureates Solow and Modigliani of MIT. They used CAPM(Capital Asset Pricing Model) to explain the movements of stock price and applied an idea of residuals to detect unusual movements. In this paper, their idea is discussed and a new method is proposed, which involves a confidence interval of future observation in linear regression. One of the examples of the stock watch system adopting this statistical method is also presented.
Unfolding the Eigen Shin-Tou-Jil (Proper Body.Earth Materials) by the Algorithm of Human-ware

It is really hard for the material factors to basically improve quality of life, since it is the only partial means of the survival and activity of life. Development of Eigen Shin-Tou-Jil(Proper Body·Earth materials), therefore, must be concentrated on providing man with essential meaning of life, not with simply economic advantage. Eigen Shin-Tou-Jil(Proper Body·Earth materials) which is formed through long passage of time in the original environments that include the climate and nature features of a special region, the representative examples are like Korea Bong-sam(a kind of genseng) of Yellow Earth etc. Unfolding the Eigen Shin-Tou-Jil(Proper Body·Earth materials) by the Algorithm of Human-ware means the development for manifesting individual eigen motives and traits as subject of behavior(Gene-ware). It is because all plants, animals, inanimate objects, including Human, have evolved with their own values in the ecosystem. It was reported that a Baeksong(white pine tree), grown well up in TongEeDong, Seoul, Korea had rarely grown up during the period suppressed by Japan. By the developments of Bio-Engineering, we also found that 40% of gene base sequence of C. Elegance(a kind of worm) is identical to that of characteristic Human. In this reason, through considering common characteristics between Human and Nature, the developments of Eigen Shin-Tou-Jil(Proper Body·Earth materials) must begin with epoch for manifesting and understanding individual's Eigen motives and traits as subject of behavior(Gene-ware)
Forecasting the Diffusion of Microprocessor Technology Based on Bibliometrics

Technological forecasting for microprocessor market can provide timely insight into the prospects for significant technological changes in computer hardware as well as software. In this paper, we use bibliometrics to forecast R&D trend on microprocessor technology. Cumulative numbers of US Patents on several generations of microprocessor technology (pipeline, superpipeline, supersclar and VLIW) approved since 1980 are applied to fit diffusion models. Our study results provide both the maximum market potential and the maturity time for each generation of microprocessor technology. Such information is expected to make contribution on making better decisions with regard to strategic corporate planning, R&D management, product development and investment in new technology of microprocessor.

Warranty Cost Models for a Product with a Two-Dimensional Warranty Policy

A two-dimensional warranty policy, two types of warranty criteria, such as the age and mileage of an automobile, are employed simultaneously to determine the eligibility of a warranty claim. We deal with the analysis of a variety of combined two-dimensional free replacement warranty(FRW) and pro-rata replacement warranty(PRW). In this paper we also propose the analysis of policies with item failures modelled using the one-dimensional and two-dimensional approach, respectively. We obtain expressions for the expected warranty costs and illustrate through numerical examples.
Integrated Circuit Design Using Multi-Characteristic Robust Design

The ever increasing demands for enhanced competitiveness of engineered products require a "designing-in-quality" strategy that can effectively and efficiently incorporate concepts of uncertainty, quality, and robustness into design. Engineered design optimization approaches that are typically carried out with respect to a single objective become inadequate to address these multiple set of requirements. This paper presents a design metric for a multi-attribute robust design problem with designer′s preferences on the performance accuracy and the performance precision. The use of this design metric as the robust optimal design criterion in multi-stage experimentation and modeling technique is presented. The effectiveness of the overall design procedure and the performance of the proposed design metric are tested with the aid of IC design and the results are discussed.
Using SAS/STAT to Solve a System of Nonlinear Equations

There exist many computer algorithms to solve a system of nonlinear equations. But in case nonlinear equations are complex it is not easy to solve a system of nonlinear equations. In this paper we consider the method of using NLIN procedure in SAS/STAT to solve a system of nonlinear equations.
Using Minimal Path Sets for the Evaluation of the Reliability of DRDT Interconnection

In this paper, we consider an interconnection network, DRDT (Dual Receive Dual Transmit), that is a double-loop ring topology and adopts the concept of multiple packets transmission. For three types of DRDT configurations, we investigate some properties related to path sets and discuss the method for finding minimal path sets. Using the concept of the terminal reliability and the path sets approach, we evaluate the reliability of the DRDT networks and compare them with a single ring network and a unidirectional double-loop ring network.
A Bayesian Diagnostic for Influential Observations in LDA

This paper suggests a new diagnostic measure for detecting influential observations in linear discriminant analysis (LDA). It is developed from a Bayesian point of view using a default Bayes factor obtained from the imaginary training sample methodology. The Bayes factor is taken as a criterion for testing homogeneity of covariance matrices in LDA model. It is noted that the effect of an observation over the criterion is fully explained by the diagnostic measure. We suggest a graphical method that can be taken as a tool for interpreting the diagnostic measure and detecting influential observations. Performance of the measure is examined through an illustrative example.
The Position of TQM among Management Innovation Tools

TQM is considered as a kind management innovation tools. Managers are apt to be embarrassed in face of too many emerging and diminishing faddish management innovation tools. In spite of their expected usefulness, the result of implementation used to be depressing. One of the most important things for successful implementation is to understand their correct usefulness and characteristics. This paper analyzes the characteristics of TQM as innovation tool by comparing TQM with other management innovation tools in terms of criteria derived in view of competitive strategy formulation.
Effects of Ownership Types, Geographical Locations and Leadership Types of Medical Service Institutions on TQM Performance

Total quality management (TQM) has been adopted in the U.S. as a way of management strategies by private enterprises as well as by the public sector. The ultimate goal of all quality management techniques and strategies is to improve quality by reducing waste, improving production process, and involving all members of the company in quality management. The purposes of this study are to review the performance of TQM activities and, based on the results, practically examine whether TQM is necessary or not in enhancing the performance of medical service institutions (hospitals) by assessing the status of TQM activities of medical service institutions and comparing such activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted against employees working for general hospitals in Seoul and other provincial areas. The questionnaire contained organized questions that were answered in writing by the target employees. A total of 184 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, TQM activities and performance were found to be positively correlated. Second, TQM activities and performance differed according to ownership types. Third, TQM activities and performance differed according to geographical locations. Fourth, TQM activities and performance differed according to leadership types.
A Statistical Software for Measurement Systems Analysis

In this study, we developed a statistical software for measurement systems analysis. This software is patterned after the Measurement Systems Analysis Reference Manual developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG). This software includes stability analysis, bias and linearity analysis, and gage R&R studies. This software was developed by using Delphi(version 4.0) and can be implemented on MS Windows 95 or higher level.
Development of a Quality Inspection Control System for a Torbine/Generator Production Industry

In order to intensify an enterprise competition, quality inspection controls are very important issue. An organization or division of a company hopes which to acquire the quality inspection information be updated in real-time with respect to shop floor. In this paper, we develop a quality inspection control system for a Turbine/Generator production industry. The system compromises inspection scheduling module related to shop floor control (SFC) system, formal documentation control module, and formal inspection control module. In the quality inspection control system, ORACLE RDBMS is used for the database management system and ORACLE DEVELOPER 2000 is used for system development tool. The characteristic of this system is to support so it can enhance productivity and quality through inspection plans related to production scheduling.
A Case Study on Determining the Number of Spare Modules in Power Plant Control System Used for Long Term

When an electronic control system has been used for long time, the electronic control system becomes obsolete and no longer In production. In this case, the existing control system should replace by new system due to shortage of spare modules. However, if the proper number of spare modules are stocked, it may be possible and more economical than to replace by new system to extend the usage period of the existing control system. In this case, it is an important problem to determine the proper number of spare modules. In this paper, a method to determine the proper number of spare modules is presented with an application example.
