A Study on the Operational Model of Cleaner Production System

Among the activities of industrial companies, manufacturing processes are major sources of environmental problems. So, many companies with manufacturing processes have taken the necessary actions to comply with environmental regulations. But, most of them have mainly focused on the 'end-of-pipe techniques' to reduce pollutants in a short period of time. However, these reactive approaches are basically symptomatic treatments and no more appropriate for sustainable development and growth. The cleaner production, which deals with pollutants at the place of origin, has been introduced as a solution to the problem. In this paper, an operational model of cleaner production system Is proposed and the factors, which affect tile performance of cleaner production, are identified through the field survey of 37 manufacturing companies.
An Empirical Research for the Critical Factors on International Market Entry in Electronic Commerce Industry

This paper attempts to identify variables which affect Korean electronic commerce(EC) venture's strategies for the international market entry decision making. Especially in the perspective of quality management perspective, it is highly relevant question which factors are critical when the industry has high technology driven characteristics such as EC, product quality related factors or environmental factors. Technology competence, operational competence, local marketing competence, psychological barriers, domestic competition level, and local infrastructure level are included to generate the explaining model for international market entry decision. The result is that the higher technology competence and local marketing competence are the significant factors. The higher the perception in these factors, the higher the intention to enter the international market in EC industry. These factors play a pivotal role in determining to go abroad the foreign EC market. Our finding implies that the subjective confidence on quality of EC solution(technology competence) and venture's capability of maintaining it(local marketing competence) are the important factors, when EC ventures make the decisions to enter the foreign markets.
A Bayesian Approach to Periodic Preventive Maintenance Policy

Preventive maintenance(PM) is an action taken on a repairable system while it is still operating, which needs to be carried out in order to keep the system at the desired level of successful operation. In this paper, we consider a Bayesian approach to determine an optimal periodic preventive maintenance policy. When the failure time is Weibull distribution with uncertain parameters, a Bayesian approach is established. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.
Optimal Design of Accelerated Life Tests under Model Uncertainty

This paper presents new compromise ALT plan which is applied to situations that true relationship between stress and parameters is not known exactly. The assumed failure distribution of this study is one of location-scale family, i. e., exponential, Weibull, and lognormal distributions which have been ones of the popular choices of failure distributions. The method of applying the stress is constant, and the censoring mechanism is Type I censoring. Compared with existing compromise plans under true simple linear model in terms of statistical efficiency, the efficiency of new compromise plan is better than the corresponding other compromise ones in most cases. For case when true model is quadratic, this plan can be used without any severe loss in statistical efficiency. The proposed new compromise ALT plan is illustrated with a numerical example and sensitivity analyses are conducted to study effects of pre-estimates of design parameters.
Determination of Target Value under Automatic Vision Inspection Systems

This paper deals with problem of determining process target value under automated visual inspection(AVI) system. Three independent error sources - digitizing error, illumination error, and positional error - which have a close relationship with the performance of the AVI system, are considered. Assuming that digitizing error is uniformly or normally distributed and illumination and positional errors are normally distributed, respectively, the distribution function for the error of measured lengths is derived when the length of a product is measured by the AVI system. Then, Optimal target values under two error models of AVI system are obtained by minimizing the total expected cost function which consists of give away, rework and penalty cost. To validate two process setting models, AVI system for drinks filling process is made up and test results are discussed.
-Control Chart Based on the Gini′s Mean Difference

Estimation of the process deviation is an important problem in statistical process control, especially in the control chart, process capability analysis or measurement system analysis. In this paper we suggest the use of the Gini's mean difference for the estimation of the process deviation when we design the control limits in construction of the control charts. The efficiency of the Gini's mean difference was well explained in Nam, Lee and Jung(2000). In this paper we propose an
control chart which use the control limits based on the Gini's mean difference. In various classes of distributions, the proposed control chart shows food performance.
Direct Search-Based Robust Design of Warpage in Injection Molded Parts

The objective of this research is to develop a robust design methodology for plastic injection molded parts wherein warpage will be minimized by a complex method which is a kind of a simple direct search method. The design space considered for optimization is divided Into two sub-design space : mold and process conditions. Warpage is quantified using the Moldflow injection molding simulation software. The design methodology was applied to an actual part of a fax machine, the Guide-ASF model, through two different design policies. The significance of this study is the synthesis of a computer simulation of injection molding process and optimization technique to determine the optimal robust design solution.
The Design of Service Quality Information Systems for Telephone Communication

The information system for measuring and analyzing service quality of telephone network is designed on the service quality scheme recommended by ITU(International Telecommunication Union) in this study. The information system is composed of the equipments which measure service quality and the systems which analyze the measured data. The schedule algorithm for effectively operating measurement equipments which are located over public switched telephone network is proposed. The functions of the Information system are Introduced. The information system improves the service quality effectively.
An Analysis on the Differences of Service Quality of Deluxe Hotels in Korea: Focusing on Region and Brand

The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the deluxe hotels'service quality in Korea according to the region and the brand. The subjects of this survey for the empirical analysis are limited to the customers of deluxe hotels in Korea: data(1,054 samples) are collected from 16 deluxe hotels among 27 of its kind in Seoul, Pusan, Cheju and Kyongju areas. The results are as follows. First, the hotel service quality between the hotels in Seoul and in provinces makes little difference. Second, the service quality in the Seoul, Pusan, Cheju and Kyongju areas shows significant difference. Third, there is also a significant difference on the service quality between domestic hotel brand and foreign-chained hotel brand.
A Case Study on Electronic Part Inspection Based on Screening Variables

In general, it is very efficient and effective to use screening variables that are correlated with the performance variable in case that measuring the performance variable is impossible (destructive) or expensive. The general methodology for searching surrogate variables is regression analysis. This paper considers the inspection problem in CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) production line, in which the performance variable (dependent variable) is binary type and screening variables are continuous. The general regression with dummy variable, discriminant analysis and binary logistic regression are considered. The cost model is also formulated to determine economically inspection procedure with screening variables.
A study for the Development of the Full Logic Deck Mechanism using Concurrent Engineering for the shortening of Product Development Period

Recently, industrial environments have been drastically changed. Customers require cheaper, better, stronger products more than ever. Thus companies have to satisfy the requirements of customers to be survived in this kind of industrial environments. To cope with these requirements from customers, engineers in industries must accept new paradigm and use some special tools for developing new product. This study has applied a Concurrent Engineering which would be good for shortening of product development period in developing of Full Logic Deck mechanism using in car audio. In this paper, a real case of systematic approach and successful story of Concurrent Engineering application in developing Full Logic Deck mechanism is illustrated.
A Study on the Empirical Model for Predicting the Physical Suitability of Office Chairs

The purpose of this study is to develop systematic methods for evaluating the suitability of a seat and build an empirical model for predicting the suitability of a seat. The following research schemes were pursued to achieve the objectives - Development of suitable chair dimensions - Analysis scheme for decomposing the human-product interface system - Development of model for evaluating suitability. As a result, we uncovered six dominant suitability dimensions for the design of a comfortable seat that is related to the physical dimension of a body, Here, six suitability dimensions were identified as the dimensions that represent the human sensitivity and psychological feeling on comfortable seats. Also, 43 human-interface elements (HIE's) such as seat height, seat width, seat depth, tilting angle, seat surface etc. were investigated. HIE was generally defined as the physical characteristic of manufacturing goods, and it had close related to the body dimension of a user and environment that it was used.
A Six Sigma Project for Reducing the Color Variation of the Monitor Materials

This paper considers a six sigma project for reducing the color variation of the monitor materials in a chemical plant. The project follows a disciplined process of five macro phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC). A process map is used to identify process input variables. Three key process input variables are selected by using an input variable evaluation table; a melting pressure, a coloring agent, and a DP color variation. DOE is utilized for finding the optimal process conditions of the three key process input variables. The sigma level of defects rate becomes a 4.58 from a 2.0 at the beginning of the project.
