Literature Review on the Statistical Quality Control in Journal of the KSQM for 50 Years

Purpose: This paper reviews the papers on statistical quality control issues which are published in Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Management (KSQM) since 1965. The literature review is purposed to survey a variety of statistical quality control issues. Methods: By grouping all of statistical quality control issues into 3 categories:; quality inspections, control charts, and process capability analysis. Results: Grouping all of papers on statistical quality control published in journal of the KSQM for 50 years into 3 categories, we provide a chronological roadmap for individual categories, and summarize the contents and contributions of surveyed papers. Conclusion: The review paper is expected to provide future direction to improve statistical quality control theories and applications in manufacturing and service industries.

Purpose: This paper reviews the papers on TQM issues which are published in the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Management (KSQM) since 1965. The literature review is purposed to survey a variety of TQM issues for several categories. Methods: We divide all of TQM issues into 6 categories: ISO system, quality assurance, quality management theory, empirical study on quality management, quality awards, and quality management etc. Results: Dividing all of papers on TQM published in KSQM for 50 years into 6 categories, we provide a chronological roadmap for individual categories, and summarize the contents and contributions of surveyed papers. Conclusion: The review paper is expected to provide future direction to improve TQM theories and applications in manufacturing and service industries.
A Study on the Meaning of Modern Quality Management from the Etymological Perspective of the word PumJil (品質)

Purpose: In order to use a word as academic terminology, we must first take a look at the meaning of that word as it is commonly used and then consider whether or not the connotation of that word is suitable to be used as academic terminology. Presently, the word Pumjil(品質) is being used as academic terminology occupying an important position in the field of business administration in Korea and is usually translated into English as `quality`. The same is true in Japan. However, as is the case with many Korean words, the meaning that the word implies has a tendency to change gradually over time. This tendency can account for the changes or additions to the meaning a word connotes. Methods: This dissertation aims to escape from such biased ideas and study the meaning of `Pum-Jil品質` from the view of humanities and exegetics. Then the natural definition of the word as far as business administration is concerned can be considered. Results: `Pum-Jil品質` has been used amid changes in modern times(historic texts in both Korea and China. In Korea particularly, the word was used in the royal court until comparatively modern times.), and now it is also widely used in the field of business administration. In this process of change, a notable point is that `Pum-Jil品質`, which was originally used to mean `nature or character of a man`, took on a new meaning, `a certain quality of a thing or a good`. Conclusion: `Pum-Jil品質` should require basic functional `quality` of goods or services as a prerequisite. And the functional quality should meet consumers` needs, as the pledge (trust; 信賴) for quality is between suppliers and consumers. Without consumer`s trust for goods, the relationship between suppliers and consumers cannot be maintained. So goods must exchange with trust, not expenses. In conclusion, we believe it is reasonable to understand `Pum-Jil品質` based on the meaning of `evidence or similar rating for pledge (trust)` from the view of humanities and exegetics. Conclusion: The measurement capability analysis is the first step for the quality improvement of the manufacturing processes. Therefore the result of this study provides a helpful guidelines for assessing the measurement system, enabling proper evaluation of manufacturing processes.
The Effect of SIT in the Development of Creative New Food Products - Focusing on the New Products of `H` Company -

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of product creativity on the financial performance of new product in the food industry. In addition, the applicability of creative thinking method for the development of creative new food product is examined. Methods: In this study, OPA(Originality-Practicality Analysis) method is applied to evaluate the creativity of 32 new food products of `H` food company in Korea. Effects of product creativity on the financial performance are analyzed using t-test and logistic regression analysis. In order to examine the applicability of SIT(Systematic Inventive Thinking) for the new product development process, each subject are classified according to five SIT tools. Results: The product group belongs to creative area(CA) shows the highest financial performance among the quadrants of OPA matrix. The products are divided into two groups whether the product can be classified by SIT tools or not. The products belonged to SIT group show higher creativity than non-SIT group. Conclusion: From the result, it can be concluded that product creativity has effect on the financial performance of the new food products, and SIT can be used as a powerful tool in developing creative new food products.
Development of Priority Calculation Models for Enacting and Revising the Korea Defense Standards and Specifications

Purpose: This study developed a method of determining priorities for evaluating and revising defense standards. Methods: The proposed data integration and refinement methods are used to obtain component reliability information and to determine the frequency of component citation based on Pareto analysis. Based on the reliability information and the frequency of cited components, the target components for quality improvement can be determined and improved using various methods, such as engineering changes, special meetings, additional training, and revising the maintenance manual. Results: Based on the proposed process, we identified components that need to be improved in order to enhance the quality and reliability. Conclusion: Our process will improve the quality and reliability of weapon systems. The proposed process can be adopted for various weapon systems to enhance their quality and reliability, and to reduce military spending.
A Study on the Factor Affecting the Service Commitment in Customer Satisfaction Education: Focused on Financial Institute Employee

Purpose: Financial institute employees have various education programs for enhancing customer satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to explore critical factors that affect the service commitment in the financial institution and to propose the implication for employee`s service involvement. Methods: This study is intended to identify how service quality of education, servicescape, and learning motivation affect the service commitment. The research model proposed in this study is tested via a survey of 322 employees for financial institution employees. Results: This study shows that tangibles, reliability, assurance and ambient condition, physical structure, symbolic artifacts and internal motivation, extrinsic motivation significantly influence education satisfaction. Tangibles, reliability and ambient condition, physical structure, symbolic artifacts and internal motivation significantly influence affective service orientation and that tangibles, reliability, assurance and extrinsic motivation significantly influence altruistic service orientation. It also verifies that education satisfaction affective service orientation, and altruistic service orientation positively affect service commitment. Conclusion: This study suggests critical factors to promote service commitment in the financial institute. It has focused on not only the service quality of education program, but also servicescape and learning motivation as the meaningful factors for increasing the employee`s service involvement.
Measuring Creativity of Ideas and the Corresponding Customer Satisfaction

Purpose: This study is aimed to introduce the OPA-Kano method, an integrated version of OPA(Originality Practicality Analysis) and Kano`s customer satisfaction method, and to examine its applicability. Methods: 30 ideas for smart phone accessories are generated using brainstorming and SIT(Systematic Inventive Thinking) and they are analyzed through the OPA-Kano method. For analysis, correlation method between OPA and Kano`s results is applied for the ideas. Results: The results show that there is significant correlation between the OPA and Kano`s approach, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through the case of smart phone accessories. Conclusion: From the result of this study, we conclude that the proposed OPA-Kano method can be used for the evaluation of ideas and customer satisfaction.
Suggestions on Enhancing the Effectiveness of Government Quality Assurance Activities for Military Supplies in Production Stage

Purpose: Government quality assurance (QA) activities in Korea, which is carried out by the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, is not effective due to 1) the obscureness of the QA implementation method, 2) the gap between QA activities of provisions and those conducted in the fields, and 3) the variation in subjective judgement among the QA personnel. The purpose of this paper is to propose some suggestions to enhance the effectiveness of government QA activities for military supplies in the production stage. Methods: QA activities for military supplies are investigated and problematic aspects are deduced for the production stage. To secure the effectiveness of the QA activities, Defense Contract Management Agency of the United Sates is benchmarked and five improvement methods are presented. Results: Five improvement aspects are 1) reflecting special terms and conditions of government mandatory inspection in contract, 2) classifying QA personnel, 3) making use of data collection and analysis template compulsory, 4) providing checklist for process review, and 5) establishing guidelines for sampling plans for product examination. Conclusion: Suggestions of this paper can lead to consistency and balance in government QA activities, reducing military suppliers` complaints and enhancing the effectiveness of QA effort, and ultimately contributing to the quality improvement of military supplies.

Purpose: The problem for the traditional control chart is that it is unable to monitor the very small fraction of nonconforming and the underlying distribution is the normal distribution.

control chart is designed based on Burr distribution. The sensitivity can be checked through ARL table and OC curve. Conclusion: Non-normal
control chart is able to control not only the very small fraction of nonconforming, but it is also useful when
distribution is non-normal distribution.
A Case Study of Innovation Activities in a Company with Multiple Business Areas

Purpose: This paper explores the various ways of promoting innovative activities adopted by the companies for raising their competitive positions among the industry based on the previous studies. Methods: A number of successful and mediocre cases of industries were reviewed carefully, and then the customized innovative model was established. Key categories and core elements were first identified for establishing progressive corporate culture and validated with the case of a company with multiple business areas. Results: The key categories were identified as strategic, systematic, human resources, and cultural aspects. The resulting core elements were consistent with those of the case company. Conclusion: Analyzing diverse product groups and companies with different organization culture, the key categories and core elements were derived and validated for companies to win the competitive position in the industry.
An Effect of SNS Performance and Arts Information Service Quality on Initial Trust and Prosumer Activity: Focusing on Dance Performance

Purpose: The present study was designed to examine the casual relationships among performance and arts information service quality, initial trust, user satisfaction, reuse intention and prosumer activity in social network service(SNS). Also, we intended to explore significant factors on use performance of SNS through causal model analysis in the viewpoint of total effect. Methods: As a survey tool, questionnaire has obtained validity and reliability through literature survey, exploratory survey and pretest and sample 403 was selected. For statistical treatment of pretest and main analysis, SPSS18.0 and AMOS18.0 were employed and structural equation model was employed as analysis method. Results: Result of this study shows as follows. Two factors (precision and reciprocal action) have an effect on user satisfaction, initial trust, reuse intention and prosumer activity. We found that with an importance of initial trust, prosumer activity can be a useful and significant factor in causal relationship of SNS. Conclusion: The present study shows that two factors(precision and reciprocal action) in via of initial trust, were important factors that related companies have to emphasize to raise performance, And also we confirmed new factor `prosumer activity` through this study. However, the present study has some limitations to be studied in the future.
