Design of an Ontology-based Autonomous Navigation System with Conceptualization of Sensing Information

Recently, many researches on autonomous mobile system have been proposed, which are possible to recognize its surrounding environment and navigate to destination without supervisor's intervention. Various sensors are mounted on the autonomous systems in order for the systems to move to destination safely without any accident. In this paper, we design an ontology-based autonomous system mounted laser distance sensors and cameras, and propose a method to conceptualize sensing information. We show the validity of the proposed method through the experiments of the system's navigation.
Emotion Recognition using Robust Speech Recognition System

This paper studied the emotion recognition system combined with robust speech recognition system in order to improve the performance of emotion recognition system. For this purpose, the effect of emotional variation on the speech recognition system and robust feature parameters of speech recognition system were studied using speech database containing various emotions. Final emotion recognition is processed using the input utterance and its emotional model according to the result of speech recognition. In the experiment, robust speech recognition system is HMM based speaker independent word recognizer using RASTA mel-cepstral coefficient and its derivatives and cepstral mean subtraction(CMS) as a signal bias removal. Experimental results showed that emotion recognizer combined with speech recognition system showed better performance than emotion recognizer alone.
Path Control Algorithm for AGV Using Right of Path Occupation

This paper presents collision prediction and avoidance method for AGVS (Automatic Guide Vehicle System). Also, we propose the PO(Right of Path Occupying) with decentralized delay time for collision avoidance. Classified essential element of AGV's working environment is modeled in this paper. Using this model, we propose a new shortest path algorithm using A* search algorithm and obtain the information on AGVs travel time, coordinates and rotation vector. Finally, we use the AGVs information data as input for simulation program. The simulation practice is used in order to evaluate a collision prediction and avoidance, and it has been presented to demonstrate the applicability of the minimize delay time.
An Autonomous Mobile System based on Detection of the Road Surface Condition

Recently, many researches for autonomous mobile system have been proposed, which can recognize surrounded environment and navigate to destination without outside intervention. The basic sufficient condition for the autonomous mobile system is to navigate to destination safely without accident. In this paper, we propose a path planning method in local region for safe navigation of autonomous system through evaluation of the road surface distortion(damaged/deformed road, unpaved road, obstacle and etc.). We use laser distance sensor to get the information on the road surface distortion and apply image binalization method to evaluate safe region in the detected local region. We show the validity of the proposed method through the computer simulation based on the artificial local road map.
EEG Signals Measurement and Analysis Method for Brain-Computer Interface

There are many methods for Human-Computer Interface. Recently, many researchers are studying about Brain-Signal this is because not only the disabled can use a computer by their thought without their limbs but also it is convenient to general people. But, studies about it are early stages. This paper proposes an EEG signals measurement and analysis methods for Brain-Computer Interface. Our purpose of this research is recognition of subject's intention when they imagine moving their arms. EEG signals are recorded during imaginary movement of subject's arms at electrode positions Fp1, Fp2, C3, C4. We made an analysis ERS(Event-Related Synchronization) and ERD(Event-Related Desynchronization) which are detected when people move their limbs in the
waves. Results of this research showed that
waves are decreased and
waves are increased at left brain during the imaginary movement of right hand. In contrast,
waves are decreased and
waves are increased at right brain during the imaginary movement of left hand.
A New Approach to Multi-objective Error Correcting Code Design Method

Error correcting codes (ECCs) are commonly used to protect against the soft errors. Single error correcting and double error detecting (SEC-DED) codes are generally used for this purpose. The proposed approach in this paper selectively reduced power consumption, delay, and area in single-error correcting, double error-detecting checker circuits that perform memory error correction. The multi-objective genetic algorithm is employed to solve the non -linear optimization problem. The proposed method allows that user can choose one of different non-dominated solutions depending on which consideration is important among them. Because we use multi-objective genetic algorithm, we can find various dominated solutions. Therefore, we can choose the ECC according to the important factor of the power, delay and area. The method is applied to odd-column weight Hsiao code which is well- known ECC code and experiments were performed to show the performance of the proposed method.
Motion Recognitions Based on Local Basis Images Using Independent Component Analysis

This paper presents a human motion recognition method using both centroid shift and local basis images. The centroid shift based on 1st moment balance technique is applied to get the robust motion images against position or size changes, the extraction of local basis images based on independent component analysis(ICA) is also applied to find a set of statistically independent motion features, which is included in each motions. Especially, ICA of fixed-point(FP) algorithm based on Newton method is used for being quick to extract a local basis images of motions. The proposed method has been applied to the problem for recognizing the 160(1 person * 10 animals * 16 motions) sign language motion images of 240*215 pixels. The 3 distances such as city-block, Euclidean, negative angle are used as measures when match the probe images to the nearest gallery images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performances(speed, rate) than the method using local eigen images and the method using local basis images without centroid shift respectively.
A Method for Real Time Target Following of a Mobile Robot Using Heading and Distance Information

This paper presents a method for a mobile robot to follow a moving object in real time. The robot follows a target object keeping the facing angle toward the target and the distance to the target to given value. The method consists of two procedures: first, the detection of target position in the robot coordinate system, and the second, the calculation of translational velocity and rotational velocity to follow the object:. To detect the target location, range sensor data is represented in histogram. Based on the real time calculation of the location of the target relative to the robot, translational velocity and rotational velocity to follow the target are calculated. The velocities make the heading angle and the distance to target converge toward the desired ones. The performance of the method is tested through simulation. In the simulation, the target moves with three different trajectories, straight line trajectory, rectangular trajectory, and circular trajectory. As shown in the results, it is inevitable to lose track temporarily of the target when the target suddenly changes its motion direction. Nevertheless, the robot speeds up to catch up and finally succeeds to follow the target as soon as possible even in this case. The proposed method can also be utilized to coordinate the motion of multiple robots to keep their formation as well as to follow a target.
Evolutionary PSR Estimation Algorithm for Feature Extraction of Sonar Target

In real system application, the propeller shaft rate (PSR) estimation algorithm for the feature extraction of the sonar target operates with the following problems: it requires both accurate and efficient the fundamental finding method because it is essential and difficult to distinguish harmonic family composed of the fundamental and its harmonics from the multiple spectral lines in the frequency spectrum-based sonar target classification, and further, it requires an easy design procedure in terms of its structures and parameters. To solve these problems, an evolutionary PSR estimation algorithm using an expert knowledge and the evolution strategy, is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, a sonar target PSR estimation is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively solves the problems in the realtime system application.
Development of Classification Model Using Neural Network

In this paper, a model to classify the method using the fuzzy TAM with preprocessing of data was developed. The preprocessing method can be divide the problem using the characteristics in the case of category type factor. In case of continuous type factor, if there was exist factor's range which is not overlapping by class, the data belong to the range was fixed and eliminated in classification. After these preprocessing of data, classified operation of Fuzzy TAM is performed.
A Study on Torque Optimization of Planar Redundant Manipulator using A GA-Tuned Fuzzy Logic Controller

A lot of researches on the redundant manipulators have been focused mainly on the minimization of joint torques. However, it is well-known that the most dynamic control algorithms using local joint torque minimization cause huge torques which can not be implemented by practical motor drivers. A new control algorithm which reduces considerably such a huge-required-torque problem is proposed in this paper. It adapts fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm to the conventional local joint torque minimization algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied to a 3-DOF redundant planar robot. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works well.

In this paper, we proposed an adaptive PSO(APSO) algorithm which changes parameter values with every recursion based on the conventional particle swam optimization(CPSO). In order to solve the optimization problem, the proposed APSO algorithm is applied to some functions, such as the De Jong function, Ackley function, Davis function and Griewank function. The superiority of the proposed APSO algorithm compared with the genetic algorithm(GA) is proved through the numerical experiment. Finally we applied the proposed algorithm to developing a function for personal magnetic field exposure based with real datas which are acquired based on the consumer research and field measuring instrument.
Feature Extraction Program for Prostate Parameters

Uroflowmetry is a non-invasive and easily performed method to diagnose the benign prostate hypertrophy(BPH) which is frequently found in the aged men. There are some manufactures to provide a diagnosis tool for the benign prostate hypertrophy. Conventional products, however, render only the result of parameters related with prostate hypertrophy, not additional information such as the uroflowmetry variation and related personal information. In this paper, we developed an effective system for feature extraction of prostate hypertrophy as well as online program for wireless networked database management which can be used under ubiquitous environments and Labview based Window program.
Object Tracking Using Information Fusion

In this paper, we propose a new method for tracking objects continously and successively based on fusion of region information, color information and motion template when multiple objects are occluded and splitted. For each frame, color template is updated and compared with the present object. The predicted region, dynamic template and color histogram are used to classify the objects. The vertical histogram of the silhouettes is analyzed to determine whether or not the foreground region contains multiple objects. The proposed method can recognize more correctly the objects to be tracked.
A Measurement for the Degree of Semantic Relationship Between Two Instances Based on Context

Entities in reality have direct relationships between each other. They also have new and indirect relationships through such direct relationships. An ontology gives explicit meaning of such relationships. Thus, we can discover new relationships between entities based on an ontology. Such new relationships are applied in indentifying new communities or constructing social networks. Measuring for the degree of relationships is an important problem in such domains. This paper proposes a measurement for the degree of relationships between entities based on an ontology. Most of researches are based on connected paths between entities. However, there are meaningful relationships between two entities through the schema in an ontology even through there are no connected paths between the entities. The proposed method measures for the degree of relationships between two entities not based on connected paths, but also relationships through the schema. The experiment result shows that the relationships through the schema are meaningful to measure the degree of relationships between entities.
A Slow Portscan Attack Detection and Countermove Mechanism based on Fuzzy Logic

The slow port scan attack detection is the one of the important topics in the network security. We suggest an abnormal traffic control framework to detect slow port scan attacks using fuzzy rules. The abnormal traffic control framework acts as an intrusion prevention system to suspicious network traffic. It manages traffic with a stepwise policy: first decreasing network bandwidth and then discarding traffic. In this paper, we show that our abnormal traffic control framework effectively detects slow port scan attacks traffic using fuzzy rules and a stepwise policy.
Extraction of Classification Boundary for Fuzzy Partitions and Its Application to Pattern Classification

The selection of classification boundaries in fuzzy rule- based classification systems is an important and difficult problem. So various methods based on learning processes such as neural network, genetic algorithm, and so on have been proposed for it. In a previous study, we pointed out the limitation of the methods and discussed a method for fuzzy partitioning in the overlapped region on feature space in order to overcome the time-consuming when the additional parameters for tuning fuzzy membership functions are necessary. In this paper, we propose a method to determine three types of classification boundaries(i.e., non-overlapping, overlapping, and a boundary point) on the basis of statistical information of the given dataset without learning by extending the method described in the study. Finally, we show the effectiveness of the proposed method through experimental results applied to pattern classification problems using the modified IRIS and standard IRIS datasets.
Optimized Walking Will Recognizing System of the Walking Aid with the Fuzzy Algorithm

This paper describes optimal operation method using recognition of walker's will for a robotic walker. Recently, walking aid system has been required according to the increase of elder and handicapped person. However, most of walking aid system don't have actuator for its movement. Unfortunately, standard frames have weakness for the movement to upward/download direction of slope. So, active type walking aids are interested, but it is not easy to control. In this paper, we adapt user's will system that can recognize walking direction and speed. First, FSR(Force Sensing Register) is applied to measure user's will to walk. And then, fuzzy algorithm is used for determining optimal wheel velocity and direction of the walking aid. From the result, walking aid can move smoothly and safely following the user's will. The walking aid can help user to walk more optimally. Here, all the processes are verified experimentally in the real world.
A Study on Pattern Analysis of Sustainability Management Using Fuzzy ID3

In this paper, a model to evaluate the sustainability management for small and middle enterprises was suggested. Also, the if-then rules and its decision tree for pattern analysis which is obtained by fuzzy ID3 from the data of sustainability management were shown. The suggested model can be used for the evaluation tool of competition increasement of enterprises. If the enterprise can recognize that the evaluation rule can be taken advantage of the sustainability management pattern analysis using fuzzy ID3, it is expected that they can use the rule effectively for self evaluation.
Indoor Localization for Mobile Robot using Extended Kalman Filter

This paper is presented an accurate localization scheme for mobile robots based on the fusion of ultrasonic satellite (U-SAT) with inertial navigation system (INS), i.e., sensor fusion. Our aim is to achieve enough accuracy less than 100 mm. The INS consist of a yaw gyro, two wheel-encoders. And the U-SAT consist of four transmitters, a receiver. Besides the localization method in this paper fuse these in an extended Kalman filter. The performance of the localization is verified by simulation and two actual data(straight, curve) gathered from about 0.5 m/s of driving actual driving data. localization methods used are general sensor fusion and sensor fusion through Kalman filter using data from INS. Through the simulation and actual data studies, the experiment show the effectiveness of the proposed method for autonomous mobile robots.
Behavior Learning and Evolution of Swarm Robot System using Support Vector Machine

In swarm robot systems, each robot must act by itself according to the its states and environments, and if necessary, must cooperate with other robots in order to carry out a given task. Therefore it is essential that each robot has both learning and evolution ability to adapt the dynamic environments. In this paper, reinforcement learning method with SVM based on structural risk minimization and distributed genetic algorithms is proposed for behavior learning and evolution of collective autonomous mobile robots. By distributed genetic algorithm exchanging the chromosome acquired under different environments by communication each robot can improve its behavior ability. Specially, in order to improve the performance of evolution, selective crossover using the characteristic of reinforcement learning that basis of SVM is adopted in this paper.
A Wavelet-based Profile Classification using Support Vector Machine

Bearing is one of the important mechanical elements used in various industrial equipments. Most of failures occurred during the equipment operation result from bearing defects and breakages. Therefore, monitoring of bearings is essential in preventing equipment breakdowns and reducing unexpected loss. The purpose of this paper is to present an online monitoring method to predict bearing states using vibration signals. Bearing vibrations, which are collected as a form of profile signal, are first analyzed by a discrete wavelet transform. Next, some statistical features are obtained from the resultant wavelet coefficients. In order to select significant ones among them, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is employed in this paper. Statistical features screened in this way are used as input variables to support vector machine (SVM). An hierarchical SVM tree is proposed for dealing with multi-class problems. The result of numerical experiments shows that the proposed SVM tree has a competent performance for classifying bearing fault states.
Common Spectrum Assignment for low power Devices for Wireless Audio Microphone

This paper presents the calculation of the required bandwidth of common frequency bandwidth applying queueing theory for maximizing the efficiency of frequency resource of WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Network) based Digital acoustic and communication devices. It assumed that LBT device(ZigBee) and FH devices (DCP, RFID and Bluetooth) coexist in the common frequency band for WPAN based Digital acoustic and communication devices. Frequency hopping (FH) and listen before talk (LBT) have been used for interference avoidance in the short range device (SRD). The LBT system transmits data after searching for usable frequency bandwidth in the radio wave environment. However, the FH system transmits data without searching for usable frequency bandwidth. The queuing theory is employed to model the FH and LBT system, respectively. As a result, the throughput for each channel was analyzed by processing the usage frequency and the interval of service time for each channel statistically. When common frequency bandwidth is shared with SRD using 250mW, it was known that about 35 channels were required at the condition of throughput 84%, which was determined with the input condition of Gaussian distribution implying safety communication. Therefore, the common frequency bandwidth is estimated with multiplying the number of channel by the bandwidth per channel. These methodology will be useful for the efficient usage of frequency bandwidth.
