Polaroid Film Defect Detection Using 2D - Continuous Wavelet Transform

In this paper, we propose an effective method to extract background components in automated vision inspection system for polarized film used in TFT LCD display panels. The test image signals are typically composed of three components such as ununiform background, random noises and target defect signals. It is important to analyze the background signal for accurate extraction of defect components. Two dimensional continuous wavelets with first derivative gaussian is used. This methods can be applied for reliable extraction of defect signal by elimination of the background signal from the original image. The proposed method outperforms over conventional FFT methods.
A Comparative Study between Genetic Programming and Central Pattern Generator Based Gait Generation Methods for Quadruped Robots

Two gait generation methods using GP(genetic programming) and CPG(Central Pattern Generator) are compared to develop a fast locomotion for quadruped robot. GP based technique is an effective way to generate few joint trajectories instead of the locus of paw positions and lots of stance parameters. The CPGs are neural circuits that generate oscillatory output from a input coming from the brain. Optimization for two proposed methods are executed and analysed using Webots simulation for the quadruped robot which is built by Bioloid. Furthermore, simulation results for two proposed methods are experimented in real quadruped robot and performances and motion features of GP and CPG based methods are investigated.
Speech Emotion Recognition Using Confidence Level for Emotional Interaction Robot

The ability to recognize human emotion is one of the hallmarks of human-robot interaction. Especially, speaker-independent emotion recognition is a challenging issue for commercial use of speech emotion recognition systems. In general, speaker-independent systems show a lower accuracy rate compared with speaker-dependent systems, as emotional feature values depend on the speaker and his/her gender. Hence, this paper describes the realization of speaker-independent emotion recognition by rejection using confidence measure to make the emotion recognition system be homogeneous and accurate. From comparison of the proposed methods with conventional method, the improvement and effectiveness of proposed methods were clearly confirmed.
Ontology-based Object-Image Recognition by Using Information on Inner-Objects

Since the features in object-images such as color and shape cannot clearly express the characteristic of objects, those features lead to vagueness of object-image recognition. Recently there have been studied on object-image recognition based on knowledge base in order to reduce the vagueness. However, because images are represented by numerical information but knowledge bases are represented by conceptual information, combining two kinds of information is difficult. In this paper, we compose knowledge base by using ontology to reduce the gap between the two kinds of information, and propose a method for object-image recognition to reduce the vagueness by using information on inner-object. Moreover, we confirm the usefulness of the proposed method through the experiments on object-image recognition in fruit domain.
Design of Neural Network based MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) Algorithm for Efficient Energy Management in Urban Wind Turbine Generating System

Generally, wind industry has been oriented to large power systems which require large windy areas and often need to overcome environment restrictions. However, small-scale wind turbines are closer to the consumers and have a large market potential, and much more efforts are required to become economically attractive. In this paper, a prototype of a small-scale urban wind generation system for battery charging application is described and a neural network based MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm which can be effectively applied to urban wind turbine system is proposed. Through Matlab based simulation studies and actual implementation of the proposed algorithm, the feasibility of the proposed scheme is verified.
Robust Speech Recognition using Vocal Tract Normalization for Emotional Variation

This paper studied the training methods less affected by the emotional variation for the development of the robust speech recognition system. For this purpose, the effect of emotional variations on the speech signal were studied using speech database containing various emotions. The performance of the speech recognition system trained by using the speech signal containing no emotion is deteriorated if the test speech signal contains the emotions because of the emotional difference between the test and training data. In this study, it is observed that vocal tract length of the speaker is affected by the emotional variation and this effect is one of the reasons that makes the performance of the speech recognition system worse. In this paper, vocal tract normalization method is used to develop the robust speech recognition system for emotional variations. Experimental results from the isolated word recognition using HMM showed that the vocal tract normalization method reduced the error rate of the conventional recognition system by 41.9% when emotional test data was used.

This paper deals with
fuzzy control problem of discrete-time nonlinear Markovian jump systems with time delay. The Takgi and Sugeno fuzzy model is employed to represent a delayed nonlinear system that possesses Markovian jump parameters. A stochastic mode dependent Lyapunov function is employed to analyze the stability and
disturbance attenuation performance of the Markovian jump fuzzy system with time delay. Stochastic Lyapunov function is dependent on the operation modes of the system. A sufficient condition for the existence of fuzzy
controller are given in terms of matrix inequalities. Also numerical example is presented to illustrate the efficient of the proposed design methods.
Image Histogram Equalization Using Flexible Logistic Transformation Function

This paper presents a histogram equalization based on the logistic function for enhancing the quality of images. The histogram equalization is a simple and effective spatial processing method that it enhances the quality by adjusting the brightness of image. The logistic function that is a nonlinear transformation function is applied to adaptively enhance the brightness of the image according to its intensity level frequency. We propose a flexible and asymmetrical logistic function by only using the intensity level with maximum frequency and the maximum intensity level in an histogram, and the total number of pixels. The proposed function excludes both the computation load of an exponential function and the heuristic setting of an optimal parameter values in the traditional logistic function. The proposed method has been applied for equalizing many images with a different resolution and histogram distribution. The experimental results show that the proposed method has the superior enhancement performances and the faster equalizing speed compared with the traditional histogram equalization and the adaptively modified histogram equalization, respectively. And the proposed histogram equalization can be used in various multimedia systems in real-time.
A Clinical Nomogram Construction Method Using Genetic Algorithm and Naive Bayesian Technique

In medical practice, the diagnosis or prediction models requiring complicated computations are not widely recognized due to difficulty in interpreting the course of reasoning and the complexity of computations. Medical personnel have used the nomograms which are a graphical representation for numerical relationships that enables to easily compute a complicated function without help of computation machines. It has been widely paid attention in diagnosing diseases or predicting the progress of diseases. A nomogram is constructed from a set of clinical data which contain various attributes such as symptoms, lab experiment results, therapy history, progress of diseases or identification of diseases. It is of importance to select effective ones from available attributes, sometimes along with parameters accompanying the attributes. This paper introduces a nomogram construction method that uses a naive Bayesian technique to construct a nomogram as well as a genetic algorithm to select effective attributes and parameters. The proposed method has been applied to the construction of a nomogram for a real clinical data set.
Improving Clustering Performance Using Gene Ontology

Recently many researches have been presented to improve the clustering performance of gene expression data by incorporating Gene Ontology into the process of clustering. In particular, Kustra et al. showed higher performance improvement by exploiting Biological Process Ontology compared to the typical expression-based clustering. This paper extends the work of Kustra et al. by performing extensive experiments on the way of incorporating GO structures. To this end, we used three ontological distance measures (Lin's, Resnik's, Jiang's) and three GO structures (BP, CC, MF) for the yeast expression data. From all test cases, We found that clustering performances were remarkably improved by incorporating GO; especially, Resnik's distance measure based on Biological Process Ontology was the best.

Algorithms for Designing Optimal Keypads of Mobile Devices

The arrangement of the general 12-button cellular phone keypad is unified with one or two kind. In general, the several alphabets are arranged in one key. When inputting an English, countries which do not speak English use multi-tap method. We can input next alphabet by pressing key repeatedly. We address the problem of finding multi-tap-based keypad designs which minimize the number of key presses for various case. Genetic algorithms is proposed method for optimal keypad designs. We are to maintain the number of keys, which is ranged from 8 to 12. We also show experimental using non-alphabetically-constrained and alphabetically-constrained arrangement, respectively. Finally, we give improved keypad designs.
Real-time Recognition System of Facial Expressions Using Principal Component of Gabor-wavelet Features

Human emotion can be reflected by their facial expressions. So, it is one of good ways to understand people's emotions by recognizing their facial expressions. General recognition system of facial expressions had selected interesting points, and then only extracted features without analyzing physical meanings. They takes a long time to find interesting points, and it is hard to estimate accurate positions of these feature points. And in order to implement a recognition system of facial expressions on real-time embedded system, it is needed to simplify the algorithm and reduce the using resources. In this paper, we propose a real-time recognition algorithm of facial expressions that project the grid points on an expression space based on Gabor wavelet feature. Facial expression is simply described by feature vectors on the expression space, and is classified by an neural network with its resources dramatically reduced. The proposed system deals 5 expressions: anger, happiness, neutral, sadness, and surprise. In experiment, average execution time is 10.251 ms and recognition rate is measured as 87~93%.
An efficient Decision-Making using the extended Fuzzy AHP Method(EFAM)

WWW which is an applicable massive set of document on the Web is a thesaurus of various information for users. However, Search engines spend a lot of time to retrieve necessary information and to filter out unnecessary information for user. In this paper, we propose the EFAM(the Extended Fuzzy AHP Method) model to manage the Web resource efficiently, and to make a decision in the problem of specific domain definitely. The EFAM model is concerned with the emotion analysis based on the domain corpus information, and it composed with systematic common concept grids by the knowledge of multiple experts. Therefore, The proposed the EFAM model can extract the documents by considering on the emotion criteria in the semantic context that is extracted concept from the corpus of specific domain and confirms that our model provides more efficient decision-making through an experiment than the conventional methods such as AHP and Fuzzy AHP which describe as a hierarchical structure elements about decision-making based on the alternatives, evaluation criteria, subjective attribute weight and fuzzy relation between concept and object.
Development of Emotional Feature Extraction Method based on Advanced AAM

It is a key element that the problem of emotional feature extraction based on facial image to recognize a human emotion status. In this paper, we propose an Advanced AAM that is improved version of proposed Facial Expression Recognition Systems based on Bayesian Network by using FACS and AAM. This is a study about the most efficient method of optimal facial feature area for human emotion recognition about random user based on generalized HCI system environments. In order to perform such processes, we use a Statistical Shape Analysis at the normalized input image by using Advanced AAM and FACS as a facial expression and emotion status analysis program. And we study about the automatical emotional feature extraction about random user.

A Defect Inspection Method in TFT-LCD Panel Using LS-SVM

Normally, to extract the defect in TFT-LCD inspection system, the image is obtained by using line scan camera or area scan camera which is achieved by CCD or CMOS sensor. Because of the limited dynamic range of CCD or CMOS sensor as well as the effect of the illumination, these images are frequently degraded and the important features are hard to decern by a human viewer. In order to overcome this problem, the feature vectors in the image are obtained by using the average intensity difference between defect and background based on the weber's law and the standard deviation of the background region. The defect detection method uses non-linear SVM (Supports Vector Machine) method using the extracted feature vectors. The experiment results show that the proposed method yields better performance of defect classification methods over conveniently method.

In this paper, we propose effective integration and operation methods for environment-friendly smart home appliance which are applying hardware integration technology using high speed Ethernet network technology and software integration technology using RT middleware. We also describe the integration of distributed hardware device by using high speed Ethernet and software integration technology by using RT middleware. We implement the integration management system of environment-friendly smart home appliance applying high speed Ethernet and RT middleware technology.
State Feedback Linearization of Discrete-Time Nonlinear Systems via T-S Fuzzy Model

In this paper, a novel feedback linearization is proposed for discrete-time nonlinear systems described by discrete-time T-S fuzzy models. The local linear models of a T-S fuzzy model are transformed to a controllable canonical form respectively, and their T-S fuzzy combination results in a feedback linearizable Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. Based on this model, a nonlinear state feedback linearizing input is determined. Nonlinear state transformation is inferred from the linear state transformations for the controllable canonical forms. The proposed method of this paper is more intuitive and easier to understand mathematically compared to the well-known feedback linearization technique which requires a profound mathematical background. The feedback linearizable condition of this paper is also weakened compared to the conventional feedback linearization. This means that larger class of nonlinear systems is linearizable compared to the case of classical linearization.
