Objects Recognition and Intelligent Walking for Quadruped Robots based on Genetic Programming

This paper introduces an objects recognition algorithm based on SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) and GP(Genetic Programming) based gaits generation. Combining both methods, a recognition based intelligent walking for quadruped robots is proposed. The gait of quadruped robots is generated by means of symbolic regression for each joint trajectories using GP. A position and size of target object are recognized by SURF which enables high speed feature extraction, and then the distance to the object is calculated. Experiments for objects recognition and autonomous walking for quadruped robots are executed for ODE based Webots simulation and real robot.

This paper describes how to securely bind the identity reference and biometric reference for satisfying security requirements. To overcome the shortcomings of the simple personal authentication method using a password, such as identify theft, a biometric system that utilizes physical and behavioral characteristics of each person has been adopted. In the biometric system, the biometric information itself is personal information, and it can be used as an unique identifier that can identify a particular it vidual when combining with other identity information. As a result, a son, anb it canmethod is required for manipulat canthese information. Consider canthese issues, this paper proposes a biit canmethod uiter son, anand uisecure channels for generating the common identifier and ensuring security of identity reference and biometric reference that are stored in the separated DBs.

In this research an LMI based mixed
controller for a Wheeled Inverted Pendulum is designed and a numerical simulation of that is carried out. The Wheeled Inverted Pendulum is a kind of an inverted pendulum that has two equivalent points. To keep that the naturally unstable equivalent point, a controller should control the wheels persistently. Dynamic equations of the Wheeled Inverted Pendulum are derived with considering inclined road that is one of the representative road conditions. A Linear Matrix Inequality method is used to construct a controller that is able to stabilize the Wheeled Inverted Pendulum with considering the inclined road condition aggressively. Various numerical simulations show that the LMI based controller is doing well on not only flat road but also inclined road condition.
ECG Signal Compression using Feature Points based on Curvature

As electrocardiogram(ECG) signals are generally sampled with a frequency of over 200Hz, a method to compress diagnostic information without losing data is required to store and transmit them efficiently. In this paper, an ECG signal compression method, which uses feature points based on curvature, is proposed. The feature points of P, Q, R, S, T waves, which are critical components of the ECG signal, have large curvature values compared to other vertexes. Thus, these vertexes are extracted with the proposed method, which uses local extremum of curvatures. Furthermore, in order to minimize reconstruction errors of the ECG signal, extra vertexes are added according to the iterative vertex selection method. Through the experimental results on the ECG signals from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database, it is concluded that the vertexes selected by the proposed method preserve all feature points of the ECG signals. In addition, they are more efficient than the AZTEC(Amplitude Zone Time Epoch Coding) method.

In this paper, We propose a method of motion interpretation of pedestrian for active traffic signal control. We detect pedestrian object in a movie of crosswalk area by using the code book method and acquire contour information. To do this stage fast, we use parallel processing based on CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture). And we remove shadow which causes shape distortion of objects. Shadow removed object is judged by using the hilbert scan distance whether to human or noise. If the objects are judged as a human, we analyze pedestrian objects' motion, face area feature, waiting time to decide that they have intetion to across a crosswalk for pdestrians. Traffic signal can be controlled after judgement.

This paper presents ideas of service scenarios for home residents using electric power monitoring system per appliance, the implementation of the monitoring system, and analysis of acquired electric power usage pattern. By acquiring and analyzing electric power usage pattern, home residents can get information of power usage pattern of every legacy (non-Demand Response-ready) appliance. Further they can get pieces of recommendation how to reduce energy consumption, intelligent standby power blocking service, and alarming service to abnormality of appliances. In order to check the feasibility of the ideas, a system that can acquire electric power pattern per appliance is implemented, and electric power pattern of some appliances are stored to a database and it was analyzed to show if auto-identification of a type of a device is possible, which is a basic required function for the scenarios presented.
Fake Face Detection System Using Pupil Reflection

Recently the need for advanced security technologies are increasing as the occurrence of intelligent crime is growing fastly. Previous liveness detection methods are required for the improvement of accuracy in order to be put to practical use. In this paper, we propose a new fake image detection method using pupil reflection. The proposed system detects eyes based on multi-scale Gabor feature vector in the first stage, and uses template matching technique in oreder to increase the detection accuracy in the second stage. The template matching plays a role in determining the allowed eye area. The infrared image that is reflected in the pupil is used to decide whether or not the captured image is fake. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is superior to the previous methods in the detection accuracy of fake images.
Neural Network Control of a Two Wheeled Mobile Inverted Pendulum System with Two Arms

This paper presents the implementation and control of a two wheeled mobile robot(TWMR) based on a balancing mechanism. The TWMR is a mobile inverted pendulum structure that combines an inverted pendulum system and a mobile robot system with two arms instead of a rod. To improve robustness due to disturbances, the radial basis function (RBF) network is used to control an angle and a position at the same time. The reference compensation technique(RCT) is used as a neural control method. Experimental studies are conducted to demonstrate performance of neural network controllers. The robot are implemented with the remote control capability.

This paper provides an integrated framework for biometric data and private information protection in TeleHealth. Biometric technology is indispensable in providing identification and convenience in the TeleHealth environment. Once biometric information is exposed to mallicious attacker, he will suffer great loss from the illegferuse of his biometric data by someone else because of difficulty of change not like ID and password. We have to buil by someone esystem data bon the integrated framework for biometric data and private information protection in TeleHealth. First, we consider the structure of the biometric system and the security requirements of y someone esystem data bon the biometrics. And then, we define the TeleHealth system model and provide the vulnerabilities and countermeasures of the biometric-data by someone eintegrated model.byhe TeleHealth sse bec requires two-phata authentication for countermeasure. Finally, we made some functionferrequirements for main componenets of biometric-data bintegrated TeleHealth system framework to protect biometric data.

This paper propose the DDEGST(divergent-direction-emphasis generalized symmetry transform) which emphasis the symmetry of divergent intensity orientation for effective target extraction in FLIR(forward looking infra-red) images. In the proposed method, we use the exponential function instead of cosine function as a phase weight function in the generalized symmetry transform for effective target extraction in FLIR images which contain a target with higher intensity than a background intensity. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we compare the proposed mehtod with conventional GST method in experiments. We prove that the proposed method have better performance in IR images.
Fuzzy Neural Network Using a Learning Rule utilizing Selective Learning Rate

This paper presents a learning rule that weights more on data near decision boundary. This learning rule generates better decision boundary by reducing the effect of outliers on the decision boundary. The proposed learning rule is integrated into IAFC neural network. IAFC neural network is stable to maintain previous learning results and is plastic to learn new data. The performance of the proposed fuzzy neural network is compared with performances of LVQ neural network and backpropagation neural network. The results show that the performance of the proposed fuzzy neural network is better than those of LVQ neural network and backpropagation neural network.
Improvement of Face Recognition Speed Using Pose Estimation

This paper addresses a method of estimating roughly the human pose by comparing Haar-wavelet value which is learned in face detection technology using AdaBoost algorithm. We also presents its application to face recognition. The learned weak classifier is used to a Haar-wavelet robust to each pose's feature by comparing the coefficients during the process of face detection. The Mahalanobis distance is used to measure the matching degree in Haar-wavelet selection. When a facial image is detected using the selected Haar-wavelet, the pose is estimated. The proposed pose estimation can be used to improve face recognition speed. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method for pose estimation.
Emotion Robust Speech Recognition using Speech Transformation

This paper studied some methods which use frequency warping method that is the one of the speech transformation method to develope the robust speech recognition system for the emotional variation. For this purpose, the effect of emotional variations on the speech signal were studied using speech database containing various emotions and it is observed that speech spectrum is affected by the emotional variation and this effect is one of the reasons that makes the performance of the speech recognition system worse. In this paper, new training method that uses frequency warping in training process is presented to reduce the effect of emotional variation and the speech recognition system based on vocal tract length normalization method is developed to be compared with proposed system. Experimental results from the isolated word recognition using HMM showed that new training method reduced the error rate of the conventional recognition system using speech signal containing various emotions.
GPU based Fast Recognition of Artificial Landmark for Mobile Robot

Vision based object recognition in mobile robots has many issues for image analysis problems with neighboring elements in dynamic environments. SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) is the local feature extraction method of the image and its performance is constant even if disturbances, such as lighting, scale change and rotation, exist. However, it has a difficulty of real-time processing caused by representation of high dimensional vectors. To solve th problem, execution of SURF in GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) is proposed and implemented using CUDA of NVIDIA. Comparisons of recognition rates and processing time for SURF between CPU and GPU by variation of robot velocity and image sizes is experimented.
The Intelligent Shift Algorithm for Automatic Transmissions and The Development of Simulators for Its Optimization and Analysis

This paper proposes the intelligent shift algorithm for automatic transmissions and develops the simulator for the its optimization and analysis. It provides the comfortable ride to drivers and improves the driving force efficiency without any loss of the performance. In addition, the developed simulator not only cuts the commercialization cost but provides diverse test conditions. The analysis and optimization of the proposed scheme are verified by the developed simulator. As a simple example, the developed simulator verifies the proposed algorithm and shows the comparative result with the existed automatic transmission shift algorithm.
An Efficient Signature Recognition Based on Histogram Using Statistical Characteristics

This paper presents an efficient signature recognition method by using the hybrid similarity criterion, which is in inverse proportion to distance and in proportion to correlation between the images. The distance is applied to express the spacial property of image, and the correlation is also applied to express the statistical property. The proposed criterion provides the robust recognition to both the geometrical variations such as position, size, and rotation and the shape variation. The normalized cross-correlation(NCC), which is calculated by considering 4 directions based on the histogram of binary image, is applied to express rapidly and accurately the similarity between the images. The proposed method has been applied to the problem for recognizing the 20 truck images of 288*288 pixels and the 105(3 persons * 35 images) signature images of 256*256 pixels, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performance that appears the image characters well. Especially, the hybrid criterion of NCC and ordinal distance has a superior recognition performance to the hybrid criterion using city-block or Euclidean distance.
Development of Wind Speed Estimator for Wind Turbine Generation System

As wind has become one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources, the key issue of wind energy conversion systems is how to efficiently operate the wind turbines in a wide range of wind speeds. The wind speed has a huge impact on the dynamic response of wind turbine. For this purpose, many control algorithms are in need for a method to measure wind speed to increase performance. Unfortunately, no accurate measurement of the effective wind speed is online available from direct measurements, which means that it must be estimated in order to make such control methods applicable in practice. In this paper, a new method based on Kalman filter and artificial neural network is presented for the estimation of the effective wind speed. To verify the performance of the proposed scheme, some simulation studies are carried out.
A Hierarchical Clustering Method Based on SVM for Real-time Gas Mixture Classification

In this work we address the use of support vector machine (SVM) in the multi-class gas classification system. The objective is to classify single gases and their mixture with a semiconductor-type electronic nose. The SVM has some typical multi-class classification models; One vs. One (OVO) and One vs. All (OVA). However, studies on those models show weaknesses on calculation time, decision time and the reject region. We propose a hierarchical clustering method (HCM) based on the SVM for real-time gas mixture classification. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance than the typical multi-class systems based on the SVM, and that the proposed method can classify single gases and their mixture easily and fast in the embedded system compared with BP-MLP and Fuzzy ARTMAP.
Simplification of Face Image using Cubic Spline Interpolation

This paper is presented to study simplification of face image using cubic spline interpolation for a business card with 2D barcode. People often forget business card's owner because business cards don't be included a face picture generally. To solve such problem, many applications have be developed through mobile devices, Internet and so on. But they couldn't caught up with value of existing business card mad by paper. Hence, some methods which can put information on business card using 1D or 2D barcode had suggested. but they couldn't include information like face image or company logo image which have too much data. Therefore, we study the simplification method of face image to encode from a face image to 2D barcode. The simplification method using spline curves defined by feature points which we dotted on face, ears, hair, eyebrows, nose, lips, neck, etc.. on a face area. for experiment, we see real face image and simplified face image made by proposed method after we automatically extract face watch through camera. In experimental results, data of simplified face image was reduced as small as it can be expressed by 2D barcode, and confirmed that it can effectively express features.
