Triangular Prism Method Based on an Enhanced Sampling Method

Fractal theory has been adopted as an effective tool for modelling complex and irregular natural phenomena facing in the fields of Computer Science, Engineering, Medical, Climatology and so on. In this paper, we presents an algorithm which enhances the performance of the triangular prism method(TPM) which has been widely used for fractal dimension extraction of natural terrains and images. For this, existing sampling methods are analyzed and a new sampling method which takes their merits is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is tested on fractal terrain maps and its performance is compared with that of other methods.
Design and Control of an Omni-directional Cleaning Robot Based on Landmarks

This paper presents design and control of an 'Omni-directional Cleaning Robot (OdCR)' which employs omni-wheels at three edges of its triangular configuration. Those omni-wheels enable the OdCR to move in any directions so that lateral movement is possible. For OdCR to be localized, a StarGazer sensor is used to provide accurate position and heading angle based on landmarks on the ceiling. In addition to that, ultrasonic sensors are installed to detect obstacles around OdCR's way. Experimental studies are conducted to test the functionality of the system.
Stabilization of High-Voltage Static Var Compensator Using Switching Velocity and Temperature Control

In the paper, velocity controller of switching module and temperature controller for the high-voltage static var compensator are proposed. Because of the continuous increase in demand for electric power, transmission and distribution facilities of power plant are required. There is a bottleneck problem of transportation routes according to new construction and expansion of power transmission facilities. Therefore there are researches to maximize the utilization of existing facilities and to increase transmission capacity without new construction. The previous static var compensator detects voltage of input circuit of power, switches the SCR directly and generates switching noise. The proposed method increases switching velocity and decreases noise using switching control based on the voltage between both sides of SCR. Also the proposed method enhance the stability using realtime temperature control for heating of the system from increase of switching velocity. We experiment the velocity and temperature control of the proposed high-voltage static var compensator in the real environment and verify the performance of the proposed system by applying in the real field.
Real Fuzzy Vault for Protecting Face Template

Face recognition techniques have been widely used for various areas including criminal identification due to their capability of easy implementing and user friendly interface. However, they have some drawbacks related to individual's privacy in case that his or her face information is divulged to illegal users. So, this paper proposed a novel method for protecting face template based on the real fuzzy vault. This proposed method has some advantages of regenerating a new face template when a registered face template is disclosed. Through implementing and testing the proposed method, we showed its validity and usefulness.
A Goal Oriented Action Planning and Replanning method of Computer Generated Forces in Wargame

This paper proposes a goal oriented action planning method that plans the behaviors of computer generated forces and a replanning method that replans new actions when the situations are changed in war game. This new method provides good expression because it is flexible and can do more realized description unlike the conventional finite state machines. As a result, proposed method has an advantage that it can describe the behaviors of computer generated forces as those of real soldier. However, since it is not deterministic it has some difficulties in analysing the decision processing of behaviors and making the computer generated forces do some specific actions. We employed combat plane models of air forces in order to verify the feasibility of our method. Finally, we could find that our method produced very similar behaviors to those of a real soldier. This paper describes our planning method, experimental results, and future works.
Website Classification based on Occurrence Frequency of Medical Terms and Hyperlinks in Webpage

This study proposed a method to classify internet websites based on occurrence frequency of medical terms in the webpages and website structure composed with webpages and hyperlinks. The classification was done by using the suitability measure defined by three factors: (1)occurrence frequency of medical terms in the whole terms involved in a webpage, (2)occurrence frequency of medical terms in de-duplicated terms involved in the webpage, and (3)the number of hyperlinks to reach to a specific webpage from homepage. We conducted an experiment to verify the proposed method with the 80 websites registered in directories related to medical field and 127 websites in nonmedical field directories, and the experiment result showed 82.5 % of accuracy of the classification.
Controller Design of Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Model-Based Multi-Agent Systems for State Consensus

This paper addresses a state consensus controller design technique of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model-based multi-agent systems in a continuous-time domain. We express the interconnection topology among the agents through graph theory. The design condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Image Thresholding based on Edge Detection

The basic idea of conventional thresholding is that an image consists of objects and their background where the gray levels of the objects are different from those of the background. In this paper, we extend it to one where an image consists of not only objects and the background but also their edges. Based on this extension, we propose an edge detection-based thresholding method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by experimental results tested on six well-known test images and compared with conventional methods.
Evaluation of Competence Level of Caregivers Using Fuzzy Theory

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the competence level of the caregiver and verify empirically the evaluated score of the competence level of the caregiver depending on the type of career and employment to propose a measure to improve the quality of care services. To more accurately evaluate the competence level of caregiver, the collected data were analyzed using fuzzy relationships for identifying the extent of relationship, after setting weighted values for the evaluation factors for working levels and service qualities. Such approach has a significance in that individual evaluation factors and individual's competence levels for caregivers may be more suitably and exactly identified. The analysis results are as follows. Care skill, reliability, assurance, typicality were statistically significant according to the caregiver's career. Also, according to the types of employment, job consciousness, responsiveness, empathy, typicality were statistically significant. To improve the competence level of the caregiver, it may be seen that improvement of job consciousness considering the career and employment types and making environments for acquiring the care skills should be done, while providing stability of the employment types rather than careers is more meaningful to improve the quality of services.
Adaptive self-structuring fuzzy controller of wind energy conversion systems

This paper proposes an online adaptive fuzzy controller for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) that is intrinsically highly nonlinear plant. In real application, to obtain exact system parameters such as power coefficient, many measuring instruments and off-line implementations are required, which is very difficult to perform. This shortcoming can be avoided by introducing fuzzy system in the controller design in this paper. The proposed adaptive fuzzy control scheme using self-structuring algorithm requires no system parameters to meet control objectives. Even the structure of the fuzzy system is automatically grows on-line, which distinguishes our proposed algorithm over the previously proposed fuzzy control schemes. Combining derivative estimator for wind velocity, the whole closed-loop system is shown to be stable in the sense of Lyapunov.
Design and Workspace Analysis of Korean Service Home Robot

This paper presents design and workspace analysis of a Korean home service robot. The robot is designed with specific needs of floor-task applications suitable for Korean life style. Shoulder and waist of the robot are adjusted by sliding mechanism to increase the workspace of the robot arms. Manipulators are designed and built and their workspaces are analyzed. Experimental studies of the robot for cleaning the floor are conducted.
An Improvement of AdaBoost using Boundary Classifier

The method proposed in this paper can improve the performance of the Boosting algorithm in machine learning. The proposed Boundary AdaBoost algorithm can make up for the weak points of Normal binary classifier using threshold boundary concepts. The new proposed boundary can be located near the threshold of the binary classifier. The proposed algorithm improves classification in areas where Normal binary classifier is weak. Thus, the optimal boundary final classifier can decrease error rates classified with more reasonable features. Finally, this paper derives the new algorithm's optimal solution, and it demonstrates how classifier accuracy can be improved using the proposed Boundary AdaBoost in a simulation experiment of pedestrian detection using 10-fold cross validation.
EEG Analysis Following Change in Hand Grip Force Level for BCI Based Robot Arm Force Control

With Brain Computer Interface (BCI) system, a person with disabled limb could use this direct brain signal like electroencephalography (EEG) to control a device such as the artifact arm. The precise force control for the artifact arm is necessary for this artificial limb system. To understand the relationship between control EEG signal and the gripping force of hands, We proposed a study by measuring EEG changes of three grades (25%, 50%, 75%) of hand grip MVC (Maximal Voluntary Contract). The acquired EEG signal was filtered to obtain power of three wave bands (alpha, beta, gamma) by using fast fourier transformation (FFT) and computed power spectrum. Then the power spectrum of three bands (alpha, beta and gamma) of three classes (MVC 25%, 50%, 75%) was classified by using PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and LDA (Linear Discriminant Analysis). The result showed that the power spectrum of EEG is increased at MVC 75% more than MVC 25%, and the correct classification rate was 52.03% for left hand and 77.7% for right hand.
Binary Classification Method using Invariant CSP for Hand Movements Analysis in EEG-based BCI System

In this study, we proposed a method for electroencephalogram (EEG) classification using invariant CSP at special channels for improving the accuracy of classification. Based on the naive EEG signals from left and right hand movement experiment, the noises of contaminated data set should be eliminate and the proposed method can deal with the de-noising of data set. The considering data set are collected from the special channels for right and left hand movements around the motor cortex area. The proposed method is based on the fit of the adjusted parameter to decline the affect of invariant parts in raw signals and can increase the classification accuracy. We have run the simulation for hundreds time for each parameter and get averaged value to get the last result for comparison. The experimental results show the accuracy is improved more than the original method, the highest result reach to 89.74%.
A Realization of Injurious moving picture filtering system with Gaussian Mixture Model and Frame-level Likelihood Estimation

In this paper, we propose the injurious moving picture filtering system using certain sounds contained in the injurious moving picture to filter injurious moving picture which is distributed without limitation in internet and internet storage space. For this purpose, the Gaussian Mixture Model which can well represent the characteristics of the sound, is used and frame level likelihood estimation is used to calculate the likelihood between filtering target data and the sound models. Also, the pruning method which can real-time proceed by reducing the comparing number of data, is applied for real-time processing, and MWMR method which showed good performance from existing speaker identification, is applied for the distinguish performance of high precision. In the identification experiment result, in case of the frame rate which is the proportion of total frame to high likelihood frame, is set to 50%, identification error rate is 6.06%, and in case of frame rate is set to 60%, error rate is 3.03%. As the result, the proposed system can distinguish between general and injurious moving picture effectively.
