English-Korean Cross-lingual Link Discovery Using Link Probability and Named Entity Recognition

This paper proposes an automatic method for discovering cross-lingual links from English Wikipedia documents to Korean ones in order to increase connectivity among vast web resources. Compared to the existing methods roughly estimating link probability of phrases, candidate anchors are selected from English documents by using various information such as title lists and linking probability extracted from Wikipedia dumps and the results of named-entity recognition, and the anchors are translated into Korean words, and then the most suitable Korean documents with the words are selected as cross-lingual links. The experimental results showed 0.375 of MAP.
Asynchronous and Adaptive Massage Passing Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, we propose an asynchronous and adaptive message passing scheme based on S-MAC for handling with the problem on energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks. The proposed scheme consists of a policy that differentiate transmission errors caused by packet collision or radio interference from congestion errors caused by buffer overflow and a method that adaptively controls the size of a fragment according to the variance of traffic loads. Especially, it presents a method that highly reduce the energy consumption by keeping the size of fragment not being excessively smaller than the one that may result in rapid increment of the total transfer time. Finally, with the simulation results we show that network throughput and delay are improved by using the proposed message passing scheme.
Study on Design of Mobile Robot for Autonomous Freight Transportation

In the paper, we design a autonomous mobile robot for freight transportation and propose an operation method of the robot in the warehouse. In order to implement autonomous navigation, it is needed to recognize the position of the robot and track the path to the target. Previous methods are hard to change the workspace environment and need high cost to install and keep a maintenance of the system. The lifter of freight transportation robot is designed to load and unload a baggage through up and down motion. Also, ultrasonic sensor, RFID, QR-code and camera sensor is used to carry out various functions while the robot navigates in the various environment. We design an operation method of the mobile robot in order to effectively arrive a goal position and transport a freight. The proposed methods are verified through various experiments.
Design of Integral Sliding Mode Control for Underactuated Mechanical Systems

The problem of finding control laws for underactuated systems has attracted growing attention since these systems are characterized by the fact that they have fewer actuators than the degrees of freedom to be controlled. A sliding mode control based on the theory of variable structure systems is a robust methodology to control nonlinear systems. In this paper, a sliding mode control with integral sliding function is proposed and asymptotical stability is proved in the Lyapunov's sense for underactuated systems. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control, computer simulations for an acrobot, which is a representative underactuated system, are performed. Using Mathworks' Simulink/Simscape, the acrobot dynamics is implemented and the proposed control is composed. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed control.
Robust High-Gain Observer Based SOC Estimator for Uncertain RC Model of Li-Ion Batteries

This paper proposes the robust high-gain observer based SOC estimatro for uncertain RC model of Li-Ion batteries. In general, RC battery model has inevitable uncertainties and it cause some negative effect to estimate the accurate SOC of Li-Ion batteries. The proposed estimator overcomes such weakness with two techniques; high-gain observer design technique and sliding mode control technique. A high-gain observer provides the robustness against model uncertainties to the proposed estimator. A sliding mode control technique helps the proposed estimator by reducing the side effect of adopting a high-gain observer such as peaking phenomenon and perturbation. The performance of the proposed estimator is verified by some simulation.
A Study on the Development of Ship's Passage Risk Assessment Simulator

Accidents between ships occur frequently at the traffic congestion area. Once a maritime accidents occur, it is likely to end up with critical damaged accidents. This paper develop a simulator for assessing quantitative risk based on statical maritime traffic data and realtime traffic distribution. Ship's passage risk assessment simulator consist of import of division of passage data, traffic distribution analysis and passage risk assessment analysis. Maritime traffic data of WANDO waterway apply to simulator for calculation of quantitative risk rate of waterway.
Hierarchical Neural Network for Real-time Medicine-bottle Classification

In The matching algorithm for automatic packaging of drugs is essential to determine whether the canister can exactly refill the suitable medicine. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical neural network with the upper and lower layers which can perform real-time processing and classification of many types of medicine bottles to prevent accidental medicine disaster. A few number of low-dimensional feature vector are extracted from the label images presenting medicine-bottle information. By using the extracted feature vectors, the lower layer of MLP(Multi-layer Perceptron) neural networks is learned. Then, the output of the learned middle layer of the MLP is used as the input to the upper layer of the MLP learning. The proposed hierarchical neural network shows good classification performance and real- time operation in the test of up to 30 degrees rotated to the left and right images of 100 different medicine bottles.
Fuzzy Analysis of Consciousness Structure of Administrator for Determinative of Care Service Quality

The aim of this study is to structuralize a model of the factors determining the quality of nursing care perceived by the director or manager of a long-term care facilities (hospitalization of patients) using FSM(Fuzzy Structural Modeling), employed in structuralizing social systems. The results were as follows: first, quality in the top tier was shown to be connected with job commitment, commitment to the organization, work experience, care skills, knowledge about the elderly, training and education, which are factors in the middle tier; and second, the structure of the middle tier (job commitment, commitment to the organization, work experience, care skills, knowledge about the elderly, training and education) either showed a connection with the lower tier, which includes employment type, job satisfaction, leadership, relationship with users and workplace relationships, or showed a connection among the factors within. These results confirmed the following: first, care skills and knowledge about the elderly, which demonstrate the job expertise of caregivers, showed a connection with service quality based on work experience; second, job commitment in the middle tier was observed to affect various factors in the same tier such as care skills, knowledge about the elderly, training and education amongst others, and it was determined that it is an important determining factor in service quality. Lastly, a meaningful result was shown in relation to leadership. The leadership skills of the director of the facilities had a connection with the care caregivers' commitment to the organization, which had a connection with service quality. This structure showed the kind of role the director must play in order to improve service quality.
Work Consideration of Leg Joints of Bipedal Robots

This paper analyzes a virtual work of the knee and hip joints of bipedal walking robots. For the purpose, we consider a model of bipedal leg mechanism with a compliant foot and a typical walking pattern. We also check the torque characteristics at the joint space propagated from the space of the foot contacting a flat and stiff surface, and present the works accumulated at the joint space. As a result, it is shown that this analysis is useful for evaluating the fatigue of the leg mechanism by the physical walking contact between the foot and the surface, and it is applicable for improving the compliant characteristics at the foot space by employing a proper footgear.
Development of the Metal Casting Process Management System Based on Touch Screen

In this paper, we describe the smart metal casting processing management system, in which we applied case-based reasoning on the window environment. Metal casting is one of the most common casting processes. The metal casting processing is complex and variable depends on a kind of metal casting products. Especially, the metal casting industry has a feature which produces small quantities but produces a lot of different types of metal casting products. And we developed the smart metal casting processing management system which could show the processing route according to the product cases intelligently using the result of case-based reasoning. The experimental result shows that our metal casting processing management system schemes achieves more productivity than manual management schemes.
A Scale Invariant Object Detection Algorithm Using Wavelet Transform in Sea Environment

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect scale invariant object from IR image obtained in the sea environment. We create horizontal edge (HL), vertical edge (LH), diagonal edge (HH) of images through 2-D discrete Haar wavelet transform (DHWT) technique after noise reduction using morphology operations. Considering the sea environment, Gaussian blurring to the horizontal and vertical edge images at each level of wavelet is performed and then saliency map is generated by multiplying the blurred horizontal and vertical edges and combining into one image. Then we extract object candidate region by performing a binarization to saliency map. A small area in the object candidate region are removed to produce final result. Experiment results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
A Study on Real-time Message Analysis for AIS VDL Load Management

The AIS(Automatic Identification System) has been widely used for ship safety at sea over the last 10 years. The AIS traffic load at VDL(VHF Data Link) has been continuously increased. As the traffic load at VDL increases, the quality of AIS service may be deteriorated. In the previous research, the AIS traffic has been analyzed in the major ports of Korea, and its problem due to traffic overload has been suggested. However, no solutions has been given so far. In this paper, the method of autimatically controlling the VDL traffic at AIS base station is represented.
Half-Against-Half Multi-class SVM Classify Physiological Response-based Emotion Recognition

The recognition of human emotional state is one of the most important components for efficient human-human and human- computer interaction. In this paper, four emotions such as fear, disgust, joy, and neutral was a main problem of classifying emotion recognition and an approach of visual-stimuli for eliciting emotion based on physiological signals of skin conductance (SC), skin temperature (SKT), and blood volume pulse (BVP) was used to design the experiment. In order to reach the goal of solving this problem, half-against-half (HAH) multi-class support vector machine (SVM) with Gaussian radial basis function (RBF) kernel was proposed showing the effective techniques to improve the accuracy rate of emotion classification. The experimental results proved that the proposed was an efficient method for solving the emotion recognition problems with the accuracy rate of 90% of neutral, 86.67% of joy, 85% of disgust, and 80% of fear.
Control of Flexible Joint Cart based Inverted Pendulum using LQR and Fuzzy Logic System

Any new method for controlling a nonlinear system has widely been reported. An inverted pendulum system has typically been used as a target system for demonstrating its usefulness. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to control a flexible joint cart based inverted pendulum system. Two carts are connected with a spring and one is a driving cart and the other is no driving cart with a pole. We here present a system modeling and a good fuzzy logic based control algorithm. We also introduce LQR (Linar Quadratic Regulator) technique for reducing the number of control variables. By using this technique, the number of input variables for a fuzzy logic controller is become only two not six. So the computational complexity is largely reduced. Moreover, a two-input fuzzy logic controller has a control rule table with a skew-symmetric property. And it will lead the design of a single-input fuzzy logic controller. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method and prove the superiority of the proposed method, some computer simulations are presented.
Image-based Image Retrieval System Using Duplicated Point of PCA-SIFT

Recently, as multimedia information becomes popular, there are many studies to retrieve images based on images in the web. However, it is hard to find the matching images which users want to find because of various patterns in images. In this paper, we suggest an efficient images retrieval system based on images for finding products in internet shopping malls. We extract features for image retrieval by using SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) algorithm, repeat keypoint matching in various dimension by using PCA-SIFT, and find the image which users search for by combining them. To verify efficiency of the proposed method, we compare the performance of our approach with that of SIFT and PCA-SIFT by using images with various patterns. We verify that the proposed method shows the best distinction in the case that product labels are not included in images.
