Robust Face Recognition Against Illumination Change Using Visible and Infrared Images

Face recognition system has advanctage to automatically recognize a person without causing repulsion at deteciton process. However, the face recognition system has a drawback to show lower perfomance according to illumination variation unlike the other biometric systems using fingerprint and iris. Therefore, this paper proposed a robust face recogntion method against illumination varition by slective fusion technique using both visible and infrared faces based on fuzzy linear disciment analysis(fuzzy-LDA). In the first step, both the visible image and infrared image are divided into four bands using wavelet transform. In the second step, Euclidean distance is calculated at each subband. In the third step, recognition rate is determined at each subband using the Euclidean distance calculated in the second step. And then, weights are determined by considering the recognition rate of each band. Finally, a fusion face recognition is performed and robust recognition results are obtained.
Smart Card User Identification Using Low-sized Face Feature Information

PIN(Personal Identification Number)-based identification method has been used to identify the user of smart cards. However, this type of identification method has several problems. Firstly, PIN can be forgotten by owners of the card. Secondly, PIN can be used by others illegally. Furthermore, the possibility of hacking PIN can be high because this PIN type matching process is performed on terminal. Thus, in this paper we suggest a new identification method which is performed on smart card using face feature information. The proposed identification method uses low-sized face feature vectors and simple matching algorithm in order to get around the limits in computing capability and memory size of smart card.
A Design of Fuzzy Classifier with Hierarchical Structure

In this paper, we proposed the new fuzzy pattern classifier which combines several fuzzy models with simple consequent parts hierarchically. The basic component of the proposed fuzzy pattern classifier with hierarchical structure is a fuzzy model with simple consequent part so that the complexity of the proposed fuzzy pattern classifier is not high. In order to analyze and divide the input space, we use Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm. In addition, we exploit Conditional Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm to analyze the sub space which is divided by Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm. At each clustered region, we apply a fuzzy model with simple consequent part and build the fuzzy pattern classifier with hierarchical structure. Because of the hierarchical structure of the proposed pattern classifier, the data distribution of the input space can be analyzed in the macroscopic point of view and the microscopic point of view. Finally, in order to evaluate the classification ability of the proposed pattern classifier, the machine learning data sets are used.
A Study of Line-shaped Echo Detection Method using Naive Bayesian Classifier

There are many types of advanced devices for weather prediction process such as weather radar, satellite, radiosonde, and other weather observation devices. Among them, the weather radar is an essential device for weather forecasting because the radar has many advantages like wide observation area, high spatial and time resolution, and so on. In order to analyze the weather radar observation result, we should know the inside structure and data. Some non-precipitation echoes exist inside of the observed radar data. And these echoes affect decreased accuracy of weather forecasting. Therefore, this paper suggests a method that could remove line-shaped non-precipitation echo from raw radar data. The line-shaped echoes are distinguished from the raw radar data and extracted their own features. These extracted data pairs are used as learning data for naive bayesian classifier. After the learning process, the constructed naive bayesian classifier is applied to real case that includes not only line-shaped echo but also other precipitation echoes. From the experiments, we confirm that the conclusion that suggested naive bayesian classifier could distinguish line-shaped echo effectively.
Neural Network Pitch Controller of Wind Turbine using Changing Rate of Generator Speed

The neural network pitch controller using changing rate of generator speed has been suggested in this paper to regulate wind turbine power above the rated wind speed. The changing rate of generator speed is used in the suggested pitch controller as well as the difference between the rated and current generator speed. Matlab/simulink has been used for simulations and it has been shown that the suggested pitch controller regulates generator speed as the rated speed of 122.9[rad/s].
A Multi Resolution Based Guided Filter Using Fuzzy Logic for X-Ray Medical Images

Noise in biomedical X-ray image degrades the quality so that it might causes to decrease the accuracy of diagnosis. Especially the noise reduction techniques is quite essential for low-dose biomedical X-ray images obtained from low radiation power in order to protect patients, because their noise level is usually high to well discriminate objects. This paper proposes an efficient method to remove the noise in low-dose X-ray images while preserving the edges with diverse resolutions. In the proposed method, a noisy image is at first decomposed into several images with different resolutions in pyramidal representation, then the stable map of edge confidence is obtained from each of analyzed image using a fuzzy logic-based edge detector. This map is used to adaptively determine the parameter for guided filters, which eliminate the noise while preserving edges in the corresponding image. The filtered images in the pyramid are extended and synthesized into a resulted image using interpolation technique. The superiority of proposed method compared to the median, bilateral, and guided filters has been experimentally shown in terms of noise removal and edge preserving properties.
Modeling of Electricity Market based on Cournot Theory in consideration of Emissions Trading

This paper proposes a Cournot model that can be used to analyze the strategic behaviors of generation companies which try to maximize their profits in an imperfectly competitive electricity and carbon markets. The proposed model consists of two parts. First, the strategic behaviors of generation companies are modeled based on the Cournot theory. Second, the market operation is modeled based on the assumption that the market operator tries to maximize the total social welfare in consideration of environmental welfare. To find the Nash equilibrium of the proposed model, the two-level optimization technique is used. The proposed method has been applied to an illustrative example of oligopolistic markets. We found that the proposed method has strong potential to analyze the influence of the strategic biddings of the generation companies and the impact of renewable generator on markets where the competitiveness of the markets is not fully developed.
Fuzzy Disturbance Observer based Multiple Sliding Surface Control of Nonlinear Systems with Mismatched Disturbance

This paper proposes fuzzy disturbance observer based multiple sliding surface control scheme for nonlinear systems with mismatched disturbance. In order to stabilize nonlinear systems with mismatched disturbance, a controller based on multiple sliding surface control scheme is designed. In addition, a fuzzy disturbance observer is used to estimate the disturbance. Using the fuzzy disturbance observer, "explosion of terms" problem and chattering problem were solved. The stability of the proposed control scheme is analyzed by Lyapunov stability theory. For the verification, we apply the proposed method to numerical examples and compare its result with that of the applied nonlinear disturbance observer based sliding mode control.
Novel Collision Warning System using Neural Networks

Recently, there are many researches on active safety system of intelligent vehicle. To reduce the probability of collision caused by driver's inattention and mistakes, the active safety system gives warning or controls the vehicle toward avoiding collision. For the purpose, it is necessary to recognize and analyze circumstances around. In this paper, we will treat the problem about collision risk assessment. In general, it is difficult to calculate the collision risk before it happens. To consider the uncertainty of the situation, Monte Carlo simulation can be employed. However it takes long computation time and is not suitable for practice. In this paper, we apply neural networks to solve this problem. It efficiently computes the unseen data by training the results of Monte Carlo simulation. Furthermore, we propose the features affects the performance of the assessment. The proposed algorithm is verified by applications in various crash scenarios.
Normal and exponential fuzzy probability for generalized trigonometric fuzzy sets

A generalized trigonometric fuzzy set is a generalization of a trigonometric fuzzy number. Zadeh() defines the probability of the fuzzy event using the probability. We define the normal and exponential fuzzy probability on
using the normal and exponential distribution, respectively, and we calculate the normal and exponential fuzzy probability for generalized trigonometric fuzzy sets.
Design for Automatic Building of a Device Database and Device Identification Algorithm in Power Management System

In this paper, an algorithm of extracting the features of home appliances and automatically building a database to identify home appliances is designed and presented. For the verification, a software library supporting this algorithm is implemented and added to an power management system server, which was already implemented to support real-time monitoring of home appliances' power consumption status and controlling their power. The implemented system consists of a system server and clients, each of which measures the power consumed by a home appliance plugged in it and transmits the information to the server in real-time over a wireless network. Through experiments, it is verified that it is possible to identify any home appliance connected to a specific client.
An Experimental Study on Control and Development of an Omni-directional Mobile Robot

This paper presents the development and control of an omni-directional holonomic mobile robot platform, which is equipped with three lateral orthogonal-wheel assemblies. Omni-directionality can be achieved with decoupled rotational and translational motions. Simulation studies on collision avoidance are conducted. A real robot is built and its hardware is implemented to control the robot. Control algorithm is embedded on DSP and FPGA chips. Hardware for motor control such as PWM, encoder counter, serial communication modules is implemented on an FPGA chip. Experimental studies of following joystick commands are performed to demonstrate the functionality and controllability of the robot.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated, and 'smarter' use of transport networks. However, ITS has the different size and shapes according to the city environment policy to adjust the city scene and it has to be displayed by different message on the information display device in real-time. And the information service providers must make the information display system which has the different information and data each time. That is very time and workers consuming and auto message frame generation system is necessary. In this paper, we design and develop the message frame generation system which can set several parameters easily for the generation of the message frame automatically on the windows environment and we do not need to go the field to get the test data.
A Study on the Image-Based Luminance Measurement System Using the Measuring Position

In this paper, an image-based luminance measurement system(LMS) is proposed to measure the luminance of outdoor signboards. We design the LMS that can improve disadvantages of efficiency of the point-luminance meter and portability of face-luminance meter using the image of DSLR camera and print out the luminance value by using the proposed luminance analysis algorithm in real time. Outdoor signboards have various size and shape, and are also installed on the various place. Luminance of the signboard is influenced by measurement location, angle, color, etc. Therefore, we measure the change of luminance value in accordance with measurement location for accurate luminance measurement and then consider the luminance value according to the measurement distance. We obtain a numerical relation between luminance value and measurement location. The proposed LMS is verified through comparative experiment with point-luminance meter.
One-to-One Mapping Algorithm between Matrix Star Graphs and Half Pancake Graphs

Matrix-star and Half-Pancake graphs are modified versions of Star graphs, and has some good characteristics such as node symmetry and fault tolerance. This paper analyzes embedding between Matrix-star and Half-Pancake graphs. As a result, Matrix-star graphs
can be embedded into Half-Pancake graphs
with dilation 5 and expansion 1. Also, Half Pancake Graphs,
can be embedded into Matrix Star Graphs,
with the expansion cost, O(n). This result shows that algorithms developed from Star Graphs can be applied at Half Pancake Graphs with additional constant cost because Star Graphs,

Development of Mechanism for Micro Surface Robot with Rotating Sonar-Beam

Recently, the needs for the development and application of the micro marine robot (MMR) which has the advantages in terms of size and cost are increasing. However, the basis is very short in the domestic. While the obstacle avoidance sonar (OAS) which was optimized in terms of size and performance and has the ability of 4-directional detection was developed for the obstacle avoidance of the micro surface robot (MSR) fortunately, the problem that the detection performance is degraded according to the shape of the obstacle because of using the fixed sonar-beam with the limited beam width and detection range exists. To solve this problem, the MSR mechanism that implements the rotating sonar-beam using the spur gear and the servo motor is proposed in this paper. To verify the performance of the proposed mechanism, the wall-tracking of the MSR is considered and the comparison and analysis in term of detection performance and actuation command is performed with conventional fixed sonar-beam. The test results show the validity of the proposed mechanism.
Movie Recommendation Using Co-Clustering by Infinite Relational Models

Preferences of users on movies are observables of various factors that are related with user attributes and movie features. For movie recommendation, analysis methods for relation among users, movies, and preference patterns are mandatory. As a relational analysis tool, we focus on the Infinite Relational Model (IRM) which was introduced as a tool for multiple concept search. We show that IRM-based co-clustering on preference patterns and movie descriptors can be used as the first tool for movie recommender methods, especially content-based filtering approaches. By introducing a set of well-defined tag sets for movies and doing three-way co-clustering on a movie-rating matrix and a movie-tag matrix, we discovered various explainable relations among users and movies. We suggest various usages of IRM-based co-clustering, espcially, for incremental and dynamic recommender systems.
Posture Optimization for a Humanoid Robot using Particle Swarm Optimization

Humanoid robot is the most suitable robot platform for effective human and robot interaction. However, the robot's complicated body structure containing more than twenty joint actuators makes it difficult to generate stable and elaborate postures using the conventional inverse kinematic method. This paper proposes an alternative approach to generate difficult postures of touching an object placed in front of the foot by the left or right hand with its torso bent forward in single support phase using the fast computational optimization method, particle swarm optimization. The simulated postures are also applied to a commercial humanoid robot platform, which validates the feasibility of the proposed approach.
