Economic Analysis of Landfill Gas Recycling Considering Environmental Benefit

The objectives of this study are to analyze the possibility of the landfill gas recycling for the middle and small scale landfills where the recycling facilities are not installed in Korea. It was found that the power generation plants by landfill gas were installed in domestic 15 landfills and the gas engine generation was adopted in 14 places. As the result of economic analysis, the landfill gas recycling is found to be available in 12 places and CERs of 153,693
can be secured per year. Through the reduction of the air pollutants and VOCs, the social benefits of 730 million won accrue per year. Also, the power production of 18.8 GWh will substitute the crude oil imports of 4,048 TOE and the revenue of 2.49 billion won is expected to power trading. It is also found that the power generation plants by landfill gas will give the social benefits such as the reduction of the environmental problems and the substitution effect of crude oil imports.
A study of Energy use Impacts by SHGCs of Windows in Detached House

U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient(SHGC) usually can be used as the index to evaluate the thermal performance. U-factor is a concept for heat loss by the temperature difference between inside and outside, so it's useful to be applied in heating season. But SHGC that indicates the fraction of heat from incident solar radiation that flows through a window by means of optical transmission, as well as absorption, re-radiation and convection is for cooling season. In other words, U-factor and SHGC of windows by cities have to be reflected to select the window of the energy conservation. The purpose of this research is to analyze the energy use impacts by SHGCs of windows for detached house in Inchon and Ulsan through energy simulation by eQUEST.
Study on the Feasibility Test of Renewable Energy Systems for Schools

Schools are one of the most suitable buildings for renewable energy systems because they have favourable demand profiles for renewable energy system (e.g. solar thermal collector, photovoltaic panels), modular-based building plan and large open spaces (e.g. play ground, gardens, roof) for the installation. This paper presents a methodology of the feasibility test for renewable energy systems to be installed at schools. The methodology is based on the analysis of the demand/supply profiles dynamic matching. a case study is also presented to test the applicability of the proposed assessment methodology.
Evaluation of Aisle Partition System's Thermal Performance in Large Data Centers for Superior Cooling Efficiency

In a typical data center, large numbers of IT sever racks are arranged multiple rows. IT environments, in which extensive electronic hardware is air-cooled, cooling system inefficiencies result when heated exhaust air from equipment prematurely mixes with chilled coolant air before it is used for cooling. Mixing of chilled air before its use with heated exhaust air results in significant cooling inefficiencies in many systems. Over temperatures may not only harm expensive electronic equipment but also interrupt critical and revenue generating services. Cool shield is a cost effective aisle partition system to contain the air in cold aisles and hot aisles of an IT server room. This paper focuses on the use of performance metrics for analyzing aisle partition system in data centers.
Development of a Simulation Model for Separation Analysis and Design of Star Screen in Construction Wastes Recycling

In this study, a star screen model was constructed to predict the dynamic characteristics of interactive waste particles and to simulate separation capability of the particle using geared type screen(star screen). In order to approach this model, it is necessary to determine the design parameters of the screen such as driving torque, percentage of open space, and capability. Thus, a dynamic star screen model was developed with a total of 32 columns of geared assembly including screen part, wastes guide, and extra joints to rotate the screen using ADAMS. Each parameter was simulated to predict the screening capability for particle size, rotating speed, and particle condition. From the results, separation ability was predicted according to the affecting variables by using the dynamic star screen model.
Dynamic Analysis and Design of Star Screen in Recycling Construction Plant

Recycling issue for the construction wastes is gradually important to future society. Recently, a star screen has been developed to use for this purpose, however some modifications were needed to enhance the separation accuracy. The objective of study is to evaluate and predict separation ability by verifying the effect for the modified shapes of the screen part. Two analysis models of the screen part were established using commercial software ADAMS to simulate the dynamic interaction of waste particles. Results showed that spacer and gear shapes directly affected separation ability. The modified spacer shapes were much higher screening rate with comparison to default shape. Screening ability for the half number of gear type was greater than other types. Therefore, modification of the design of screen part will be required to achieve better separation ability.
A Study on the Improvement of Airflow Deflection in a Cleanroom of Class 1000

We performed 3 dimensional numerical study on the improvement of the airflow deflection in the cleanroom of Class 1000, which is presently operated for the manufacturing process in Korea. The Deflection angle and the non-uniformity were investigated to analyze the airflow characteristics and the performance of cleanroom with variations of the cleanroom occupancy state, the filters' arrangement, and the floor return air system. From the numerical results, we found out that the airflow pattern of the cleanroom is more unidirectional and stable in the condition of at-rest than in the condition of as~built. It is due to that the equipments installed in the cleanroom play a role like partitions, which prevent the airflow from inclining toward the recirculation air duct. And it is needed to arrange the filter units parallel to the equipments array without a gap between them for maintaining the unidirectional airflow pattern. Finally, we knew that it is very important to install the partition like the eyelid above the equipment to keep the unidirectional airflow around the equipments and remove the contaminants quickly.

A Study on the Status and Improvement of Technical Standard on Building Mechanical System Engineering

This study aims to investigate and improve the present state of technical standard on building mechanical system in Korea. At this point be tormented the energy depletions are big problem on the rise. Building mechanical system is configured air conditioning, sanitation, urban equipment. In the design of equipment, installation, maintenance, applies to all devices in the field of industrial equipment and general engineering equipment field are within bounds to say that all of the equipment field. However, domestic technology level is still fly short of international standards in architecture, we spent much energy. Because of this, find the current situation and identify the problems look up ways to improve them.
Observation Studies on Field Operation of a Exhausted Heat Recovery System for a 300 kW Class Small Gas Engine Cogeneration System

An exhausted heat recovery system for a small gas engine cogeneration plant was investigated. The system was designed and built in a 300 kW class cogeneration demonstrative system. The basic performance was tested depending on load variation, and installed to a field site as a bottoming heat and power supply system. The exhaust gas heat exchangers (EGHXs) in shell-and-tube type and shell-and-plate type were tested. The entire efficiency of the cogeneration system was estimated between 85 to 90% under the 100% load condition, of which trend appears higher in summer due to the less thermal loss than in winter. Power generation efficiency and thermal efficiency was measured in a range of 31~33% and 54~57%, respectively.
