An Optimization Procedure for a Multi-Item Multi-Source Materials Acquisition Problen

A materials acquisition planning (MAP) problem that involves the determination of how much to order of a number of different items from a number of different suppliers is considered. This particular problem is modelled as a nonlinear mixed integer programming problem. A solution procedure based upon the partition of variables is developed to handle the MAP problem. This solution procedure utilizes a modified Hooke-Jeeves Pattern Search procedure along with a linear programming simplex algorithm. An example problem is presented and the results of applying the suggested solution procedure to this problem are reported.
A Mixed 0-1 Linear Program for the Inspection Location Problem

An economic model is developed for determining optimal locations of screening inspection stations in a multistage production system. The effect of screening inspection on the production rate is explicitly considered, and a fixed cost for maintaining an inspection station is assumed. The product is allowed to have multiple defects, each of which may be inspected at any inspection station after the defect-generating operation. The problem is formulated as a mixed 0-1 linear program which offers the advantage of versatility in handling various system constraints.
An Approach for the Automatic Box-Jenkins Modelling

The use of Box-Jenkins technique is still very limited due to the high level of knowledge required in comprehending the technique and the cumbersome iterative procedure which requires a large amount of cost and time. This paper proposes a method of automating the univariate Box-Jekins modelling to overcome the limitations of subjective identification in iterative procedure by using Variate Difference method, D-statistic and Pattern Recognition algorithm combined with Akaike's Information Criterion. The results of the application to real data show that the average performance of automatic modelling procedure is better or not worse, at least, than those of the existing models which have been manually set up and reported in the literature.
An Evaluation of Lot-sizing Rules under the Uncretainty of Demand and Lead Time

This paper examines the influence of the uncertainty in demand and lead time on the relative performances of ten well-known single stage lot-sizing rules in a rolling schedule environment. Two other factors, coefficient of variation and time between orders, which may affect the performances of the rules are also considered. To compare the rules under an identical condition, 100% service level is set by introducing safety stocks. The effects of various factor levels are checked statistically by the pairwise t-test and the results show that the uncertainty of the environment has a strong influence on the performance of the rules.
The Weight Distribution of Pellet Sizes of Carbon Black Products

A model for the weight distribution of pellet sizes of carbon black products is proposed so that it may be utilized in establishing the product standard and a quality control scheme. The various grades of carbon black products from the Korea Steel Chemical Co., Ltd. are examined to validate the adequacy of the proposed model.
Resource Constrained Scheduling Models

A resource constrained scheduling problem that involves trade-off between resources and time is considered. Models are considered. Models are presented as zero-one integer program and objectives of models include minimum project completion time and minimum total project cost.
