A Pilot Selection Method using Divided Attention Test

This study develops a scientific method in pilot selection by analysing a divided attention performance between the successful pilots and the failures in a flight training course. To measure the divided attention performance, Dual Task Method is used in which the primary task is a tracking task while the secondary tasks are, 1. short term memory task, 2. choice reaction task and 3. judgement task. Result shows that the performance of the pilots is significantly better (P < 0.1) than that of the failures in dual performance. In addition, the differences in the divided attention performance between the two groups are increased in proportion to the difficulty of the task and especially in the Short Term Memory, the increment is most dramatic.
Optimal Design of a Branched Pipe Network with Multiple Sources

This paper is concerned with a branched pipe network system which transports some fluids or gas from multiple sources to multiple demand nodes. A nonlinear programming model is proposed for determining junction locations simultaneously with selection of pipe sizes and pump capacities such that the capital and operating costs of the system are minimized over a given planning horizon. To solve the model, a hierarchical decomposition method is developed with the junction location being the primary variable. With some values fixed for the primary, the other decision variables are found by linear programming. Then, using the postoptimality analysis of LP, junction locations are adjusted. We repeat this process until an optimum is approached. A simple example of designing a water distribution network is solved to illustrate the optimization procedure developed.
Procedure for Rolling Plan of Stockpile via Value Assessment

This paper proposes a procedure for solving a multi-stage stockpile problem with budget constant. To establish the stockpile importance index, value assessment procedure is employed with two attributes; item's essentiality and Unsatisfactoriness rate of requirements, Then we propose the balancing of stockpile importance index among stockpile items as a reasonable objective for stockpile problem.
Computing Weighted Maximal Flows in Polymatroidal Networks

For the polymatroidal network, which has set-constraints on arcs, solution procedures to get the weighted maximal flows are investigated. These procedures are composed of the transformation of the polymatroidal network flow problem into a polymatroid intersection problem and a polymatroid intersection algorithm. A greedy polymatroid intersection algorithm is presented, and an example problem is solved. The greedy polymatroid intersection algorithm is a variation of Hassin's. According to these procedures, there is no need to convert the primal problem concerned into dual one. This differs from the procedures of Hassin, in which the dual restricted problem is used.
A Mixed Zero-One Integer Goal programming Approach to Facility Location-Allocation Problem with Multiple Objectives

This paper is concerned with the facility location-allocation problem (FLAP) with multiple objectives. A branch-and-bound procedure is presented to solve the mixed zero-one integer goal programming problem which is to determine facility locations from given candidate locations and to allocate facility capacity to given customer markets simultaneously. A numercial example is given to illustrate this procedure.
A Computer-Based Process Quality Control System

A process quality control system is designed which incorporates run tests, normality test, process capability studies, etc., into control chart scheme, and a software package for microcomputers is developed. The system is interactive and has data base management capabilities. All programs are written in BASIC language.
