Two Forms of Preventive Replacement Policy with Minimal Repair at Failure

This paper presents a model for determining the optimal number of minimal repairs before replacement. The basic concept parallels the periodic replacement model with minimal repair at failure introduced by Barlow and Hunter, only difference being the replacement signalled by the number of previous minimal repairs performed on the unit. In the case of Weibull distribution, which is widely used as a general failure distribution, the optimal solution could be obtained numerically and seems more cost effective compared to the Barlow and Hunter's Policy II.
Design of an Electronics Industry Development System

In this paper it was attempted to design a system for the effective development of electronics industry by use of systems management concept. For the design of this system, current status of electronics industry was analyzed; problem area was derived through this analysis and developmental strategy was determined. As an organization for centeralized coordination, "Electronics Industry Committee" was proposed. The committee controls three specialized organizations such as R&D center, marketing management center, and council for political support. Each function of these special organizations was introduced and special role as a system manager was described.

For labor-intensive sewing industry, productivity could be enhanced with the proper utilization of standard time system. This paper develops a standard data for sewing operations through three stages. The first is to identify the manual motions from sewing operations. The second is to simplify the MTM-1 data considering the frequency and the nature of basic motions occuring in the operations. Finally we synthesize the standard data using the simplified MTM-1 by the film analysis of the actual operations pictured in the field. The standard data developed is shown to be easier and faster with reasonable accuracy in determining the standard time compared to the MTM-1.
THE MINIMUM VARIANCE UNBIASED ESTIMATION OF SYSTEM RELIABILITY

We obtain the minimum variance unbiased estimate of system reliability when a system consists of n components whose life times are assumed to be independent and identically distributed either negative exponential or geometric random variables. For the case of a negative exponential life time, we obtain the minimum variance unbiased estimate of the probability density function of the i-th order statistic.
Comparative Analysis of Urban Public Transportation Systems with Emphasis on Subway-Feeder Bus System

This paper attempts to develop a method which combines a subway system with a feeder bus system in order to increase the efficiency of the performance of the subway system. The 'feasible region' where a subway system is more desirable than a conventional bus in its travel time far the CBD-bound trip is determined and the service-specification models of the two systems in this region have been formulated and analyzed in an aggregate manner. The model developed in this study is applied to the Subway Line No. 1 in Seoul. The result obtained in the analysis indicates that the combined system can be guaranteed as a desirable mode in the point of travel time and cost within the feasible region. The concept of the model will lead to a proper assessment of the system's potentials for the choice of an optimal combination of the existing transport technologies.
Modified Economic Order Quantity Under the Criterion of Rate of Return

This paper presents a new method, called a modified economic order quantity method, for determining the optimal inventory policy, which uses the rate of return as its decision criterion. Especially for the simplest possible inventory system with constant demand rate, no backlogging, no lead time, etc., the formula for the optimal order policy is derived. Also mentioned are the relative merits and shortcomings of this method compared to the conventional EOQ model.
Determinants of Hourly Earnings for Employed Women

Hourly earnings of the employed U. S. women are regressed upon a set of independent variables, separately for white and nonwhite women. In support of the human capitalist's point of view higher hourly earnings are positively associated with number of years of education completed, attainment of vocational training either at the company or/and non company training. In addition to education one's obtainments of certain occupational certificate and one's assignment of occupation in the order of the Duncan prestige index and years of work experience since leaving school are also significantly related to hourly earnings. Women workers employed at the government sector or employed in an industry where proportion of female is smaller than average earn more than those at private sector or at industries of high female composition.
