Measuring the Efficiency of Investment in the Deployment and Technology Development of Renewable Energy in Korea Using the DEA

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the efficiency of government investment in the deployment and technological development of three technological areas - wind power, photovoltaic and fuel cell - of renewable energy in Korea using the DEA (data envelopment analysis). The efficiencies of government investment in renewable energies are measured and compared among three kinds of technologies using the actual data during 2007~2009. In the present DEA model, R&D investment and government subsidies for renewable energy usage promotion are selected as input variables, and the number of patents, supply level, and the production cost as output variable. As a result, it is found that the wind power is the most efficient renewable energy in Korea in the perspective of the efficiency of government investment.
Analysis of Failure in Product Design Experiments by using Product Data Analytics

This study assessed and analysed a result of a product design experiment through Product Data Analytics (PDA), to find reasons for failure of some projects in the experiment. PDA is a computer-based data analysis that uses Product Data Management (PDM) databases as its operational databases. The study examines 20 product design projects in the experiment, which are prepared to follow same product development process by using an identical PDM system. The design result in the PDM database is assessed and analysed by On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and data mining tools in PDA. The assesment and analysis reveals the lateness in creation of 3D CAD models as the main reason of the failure.
Rule Selection Method in Decision Tree Models

Data mining is a process of discovering useful patterns or information from large amount of data. Decision tree is one of the data mining algorithms that can be used for both classification and prediction and has been widely used for various applications because of its flexibility and interpretability. Decision trees for classification generally generate a number of rules that belong to one of the predefined category and some rules may belong to the same category. In this case, it is necessary to determine the significance of each rule so as to provide the priority of the rule with users. The purpose of this paper is to propose a rule selection method in classification tree models that accommodate the umber of observation, accuracy, and effectiveness in each rule. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed method produce better performance compared to other existing rule selection methods.
Study of the New Distance for Image Retrieval

Image retrieval is a procedure to find images based on the resemblance between query image and all images. In retrieving images, the crucial step that arises is how to define the similarity between images. In this paper, we propose a new similarity measure which is based on distribution of color. We apply the new measure to retrieving two different types of images, wallpaper images and the logo of automobiles, and compare its performance to other existing similarity measures.
A Method of System Effectiveness Analysis for Remote-Operated Unmanned Ground Vehicles Using OneSAF

Nowadays unmanned ground systems are used in supporting of surveillance and explosive ordnance disposal. Also, we expect that will be used to remarkably enhance combat capability through network-based cooperative operations with other combat systems. In order to effectively develop those unmanned systems, we needs a systematic method to analyze combat effectiveness and validate required operation capabilities. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to simulate remote-operated unmanned ground systems by using OneSAF, an US-Army simulation framework. First of all, we design a simulation model of unmanned system by integrating with core components for wireless communications and remote control of mobility and fire. Next, we extend OneSAF functionality to create communication links that connects a remote controller with an unmanned vehicle and define a simulated behavior to operate unmanned vehicles via the communication links. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model within OneSAF and summarize system effectiveness analysis results.
The Generalized Multiple-Choice Multi-Divisional Linear Programming Knapsack Problem

The multi-divisional knapsack problem is defined as a binary knapsack problem where each mutually exclusive division has its own capacity. In this paper, we present an extension of the multi-divisional knapsack problem that has generalized multiple-choice constraints. We explore the linear programming relaxation (P) of this extended problem and identify some properties of problem (P). Then, we develop a transformation which converts the problem (P) into an LP knapsack problem and derive the optimal solutions of problem (P) from those of the converted LP knapsack problem. Under Sampling for Imbalanced Data using Minor Class based SVM (MCSVM) in Semiconductor Process

Yield prediction is important to manage semiconductor quality. Many researches with machine learning algorithms such as SVM (support vector machine) are conducted to predict yield precisely. However, yield prediction using SVM is hard because extremely imbalanced and big data are generated by final test procedure in semiconductor manufacturing process. Using SVM algorithm with imbalanced data sometimes cause unnecessary support vectors from major class because of unselected support vectors from minor class. So, decision boundary at target class can be overwhelmed by effect of observations in major class. For this reason, we propose a under-sampling method with minor class based SVM (MCSVM) which overcomes the limitations of ordinary SVM algorithm. MCSVM constructs the model that fixes some of data from minor class as support vectors, and they can be good samples representing the nature of target class. Several experimental studies with using the data sets from UCI and real manufacturing process represent that our proposed method performs better than existing sampling methods.
Analysis and Forecasting of Diffusion of RFID Market in Korea

In recent decades, RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) technology has been recognized as one of the most core competencies in implementing ubiquitous society. However, Korea has not seen good success in diffusion of RFID even though Korean government continues funding many projects to diffuse the technology in industries. Most previous researches overestimate the growth of Korean RFID market in contrary to real market situation. This study aims to analyze the Korean RFID market and find a reasonable forecasting model for it. Our experimental results show that Bass forecasting model provides the more realistic estimates than any other models and the analyses of forecasting error provide useful information for the better forecasting. We also observed that government policy plays a crucial role in the diffusion of RFID technology in Korea.

For a production planning of the system, we formulate a lot-sizing problem in which each production should be a multiple of a given unit batch and backlogging is allowed. A Study on an Efficient Size Dry Docks for Warship Maintenance using Queueing Problem

Dry docks are used to repair warships or Merchant ships based on their life cycles. There are the certain number of dry docks in the ROK Navy, However, the ROK Navy force structure has been changing a lot since the Korean War. The focus of this study is to analyze the queueing problem regarding present dry docks capacities and to forecast the appropriate number of dry docks based on future naval ship structure. The study proposes to obtain an efficient dry dock size using queueing problem and simulation.
A Dynamic Lot-Sizing and Outbound Dispatching Problem with Delivery Time Windows and Heterogeneous Container Types

This paper considers a single-product problem for inbound lot-sizing and outbound dispatching at a third-party warehouse, where the demand is dynamic over the discrete time horizon. Each demand must be delivered into the corresponding delivery time window which is the time interval characterized by the earliest and latest delivery dates of the demand. Ordered products are shipped by heterogeneous container types. Each container type has type-dependent carrying capacity and the unit freight cost depends on each container type. Total freight cost is proportional to the number of each container type used. Also it is assumed that related cost functions are concave and backlogging is not allowed. The objective of the paper is to simultaneously determine the optimal inbound lot-sizing and outbound dispatching plans that minimize total costs which include ordering, shipping, and inventory holding costs. The optimal solution properties are characterized for the problem and then a dynamic programming algorithm is presented to find the optimal solution.
