An Empirical Analysis of a Process Design Considering Worker's Cognition

This study suggests a process design using cognitive processes. Job characteristic model for job design and recent cognitive engineering studies for process design are reviewed briefly. By using these concepts, the lean production system is re-interpreted in terms of cognitive engineering and the latent dimensions of the lean production system are revealed as the application of cognitive engineering principles. An integrated process design framework for cognitive manufacturing system using job characteristic model is suggested for the effective design of manufacturing system. Propositions for empirical analysis of this model are also analyzed through a questionnaire survey. Propositions are (1) experiential cognition and motivation potential affect the ability, role perception, and need for achievement of the operator in the manufacturing system, (2) the ability, role perception, and need for achievement of the operator affect the job performance. Both propositions are supported by correlation analysis and path analysis.
Gaussian Approximation of Stochastic Lanchester Model for Heterogeneous Forces

We propose a new approach to the stochastic version of Lanchester model. Commonly used approach to stochastic Lanchester model is through the Markov-chain method. The Markov-chain approach, however, is not appropriate to high dimensional heterogeneous force case because of large computational cost. In this paper, we propose an approximation method of stochastic Lanchester model. By matching the first and the second moments, the distribution of each unit strength can be approximated with multivariate normal distribution. We evaluate an approximation of discrete Markov-chain model by measuring Kullback-Leibler divergence. We confirmed high accuracy of approximation method, and also the accuracy and low computational cost are maintained under high dimensional heterogeneous force case.
Spatial Pattern Analysis of CO2 Emission in Seoul Metropolitan City Based on a Geographically Weighted Regression

Effort to reduce energy consumptions or CO2 emissions is global trend. To follow this trend, spatial studies related to characteristics affecting energy consumptions or CO2 emissions have been conducted, but only with the focus on spatial dependence, not on spatial heterogeneity. The aim of this study is to investigate spatial heterogeneity patterns of CO2 emission based on socio-economic factors, land-use characteristics and traffic infrastructure of Seoul city. Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis was performed with 423 administrative district data in Seoul. The results suggest that population and employment densities, road density and railway length in most districts are found to have positive impact on the CO2 emissions. Residential and green area densities also have the highest positive impact on CO2 emissions in most districts of Gangnam-gu. The resulting model can be used to identify the spatial patterns of CO2 emissions at district level in Seoul. Eventually it can contribute to local energy policy and planning of metropolitan area.
PLS Path Modeling to Investigate the Relations between Competencies of Data Scientist and Big Data Analysis Performance : Focused on Kaggle Platform

This paper focuses on competencies of data scientists and behavioral intention that affect big data analysis performance. This experiment examined nine core factors required by data scientists. In order to investigate this, we conducted a survey to gather data from 103 data scientists who participated in big data competition at Kaggle platform and used factor analysis and PLS-SEM for the analysis methods. The results show that some key competency factors have influential effect on the big data analysis performance. This study is to provide a new theoretical basis needed for relevant research by analyzing the structural relationship between the individual competencies and performance, and practically to identify the priorities of the core competencies that data scientists must have.
Improvement of Firing Elevation Driving Method for Towed Howitzer to Prevent Musculoskeletal Problems

The purpose of this study is to improve the firing elevation driving method for towed howitzer to prevent the musculoskeletal disorders. To adjust the firing elevation, it is required to rotate the hand wheel and this work has been done manually in the firing test range as the same method as field artillery troops. In the firing test range, the motor-driven firing elevation adjustment device was developed to improve the working efficiency and safety. These were compared by using posture classification scheme of RULA and REBA. It was measured elapsed time to investigate the improved operational efficiency. The optimal posture of upper body to operate the hand wheel for field artillery troops was proposed.
Recommendation of Personalized Surveillance Interval of Colonoscopy via Survival Analysis

A colonoscopy is important because it detects the presence of polyps in the colon that can lead to colon cancer. How often one needs to repeat a colonoscopy may depend on various factors. The main purpose of this study is to determine personalized surveillance interval of colonoscopy based on characteristics of patients including their clinical information. The clustering analysis using a partitioning around medoids algorithm was conducted on 625 patients who had a medical examination at Korea University Anam Hospital and found several subgroups of patients. For each cluster, we then performed survival analysis that provides the probability of having polyps according to the number of days until next visit. The results of survival analysis indicated that different survival distributions exist among different patients' groups. We believe that the procedure proposed in this study can provide the patients with personalized medical information about how often they need to repeat a colonoscopy.
Analyzing the Ecosystem of the Domestic Online Game Industry : Focusing on the Linkage between Developers and Publishers

This study aims to analyze the structure and characteristics of the domestic online game industry using network analysis. In particular, two-mode network analysis is employed to measure the network structure, centrality, and cluster for two types of online game platforms, online games and mobile games, from 1996 to 2014. We also conduct a dynamic analysis to capture the structural changes in the ecosystem by internal and external environmental changes before and after turning point for each online game platform. It is revealed that the online game econsystem has the higher number of clusters and higher concentration ratio than those of mobile game ecosystem. In dynamic analysis, both platforms exhibit similar trends over time with the increasing number of clusters, enlargement of largest cluster's size, and decreasing concentration ratio. This study is expected to provide fruitful implications for strategic decision making of online game companies and policy making for the online game industry.
Simulation-Based Risk Analysis of Integrated Power System

In this paper, we deal with a risk analysis for an IPS (Integrated power system) and propose a simulation model combining the fault tree and event tree in order to estimate the system availability and risk level, together. Firstly, the basic information such as operational scenarios, physical structure, safety systems is explained in order to make the fault tree and event tree of the IPS. Next, we propose a discrete-event simulation model using a next-event time advance technique to advance the simulation time. Also the state transition and activity diagrams are explained to represent the relationship between the objects. By numerical examples, the redundancy allocation is considered in order to decrease the risk level of the IPS.
