MRP Practice and A Case of Software Development

This paper introduces some practical guidelines which system developer should consider in installing MRP system. And some difficulties which he will encounter and should overcome are illustrated. An MRP software is introduced which was developed by a Korean software company and is being used by several manufacturing companies. Software modules, sturucture of data files and output reports are explained for the software.
National Coal Production Planning

The problem of planning national coal production is formulated as an optimal control problem. The model can be used to propose a proper government subsidy policy which will enhance the utilization of a nationally-owned resurce(coal) and maintain the optimal level of coal production.

Guide path design is the most important factor in planning automated guided vehicle systems(AGVS) in manufacturing shop environments. This paper studies a heuristic procedure to design an optimal bi-directional guide path with the objective of the minimum total travel time of the vehicles. An example is solved to validate the procedure developed.
Development of Decision Support System Using Decision Analysis Cycle

Many decision problems in the real world have uncertainty and complexity. In many cases, decision makers do not have decision-analytic knowledge enough to solve a given decision problem. This paper developes a Decision Support System(DSS) that can be used for structuring decision problem into decision tree based on the concept of influence diagram and analyzing the decision problem by following Decision Analysis Cycle. This study suggests a DSS system(DACUL) in order to implement Decision Analysis Cycle using Lotus1-2-3. DACUL system has been developed in IBM XT/AT compatible PC
A Decision Support System for Selecting the Optimal Method of Depreciation

The determination of the optimal depreciation as constrained by the tax law is very complicated computation which is laborious and time-comsurning process. The objective of this research effort is to develop a Decision Support System for Depreciation(DSSD) that can be used by a decision maker to analyze alternative depreciation strategies and to select that strategy which will be most beneficial to the firm from a tax and net profit standpoint.
A Study on the Hierarchical Structure of QOS (Quality of Service) and its evaluation model

The objective of this study is to establish a hierarchical structure for Quality of Service Management (QOSM) from subsriber's viewpoint. First, We construct the hierarchy of the QOSM items. These items are derived from the CCITT concepts and the present Korean Telecommunication Authority(KTA) system. Then QOS performance indicators which consists of the lower levels of the hierarchy and the weight value is constructed. Finally, an evaluation method of the QOS is presented. It is expected that this study offers an evaluation method of network performance and efficiency of operation and maintenance for telecommunication facilities.
The Role of Universities in Research and Development and Technical Services (R & D & TS) in Korea

Abundant hard-working and well-educated human resources were the important sources of the spectacular economic success during the last decades. In contrast to the past sources of economic growth during the 1970's when labor and capital along with economies of scale were the dominant factors (the university has played an important role in the national economic success by supplying quality labour and intellectual talent.), the level of science, technological innovation and capital inputs will be of vital importance for future economic growth in Korea. The balance of payments in technology transfer together with the current state of R & D activities has been reviewed and some of the issues and problems underlying the university system that tend to hinder research in collaboration with research institutes and industries have been outlined. Serious imbalance in the allocation of research funds among research sectors was identified as the most serious problem to be fixed. The importance of science and technology education in private universities for the enhancement of the national level of science and technology has been re-examined. Also research and development in engineering and technical services has been emphasized. In conclusion, ways to bolster the role of universities in the research environment in cooperation with industry and research institutes have been suggested.
