A Reliability Optimization Problem of System with Mixed Redundancy Strategies

The reliability is defined as a probability that a system will operate properly for a specified period of time under the design operating conditions without failure and it has been considered as one of the major design parameters in the field of industries. Reliability-Redundancy Optimization Problem(RROP) involves selec tion of components with multiple choices and redundancy levels for maximizing system reliability with constraints such as cost, weight, etc. However, in practice both active and cold standby redundancies may be used within a particular system design. Therefore, a redundancy strategy(active, cold standby) for each subsystem in order to maximize system reliability is considered in this study. Due to the nature of RROP, i.e. NP-hard problem, A Parallel Particle Swarm Optimization(PPSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the mathematical programming model and it gives consistently better quality solutions than existing studies for benchmark problems.
A Methodology for Efficient Portfolio Management Using Inventory Control Technique

This paper proposes an efficient portfolio management methodology named sSPPM with consideration of risk and required return. sSPPM employs Markowitz's portfolio model to select securities and adopts (
) policy that is a well-known technique in the inventory control area to revise the current portfolio. Computational experiments using virtual stock prices generated by monte carlo simulation method as well as real stock ones of KOSPI for recent 4 years are conducted to show the excellence of the portfolio management under (
) policy framework. The result shows that sSPPM is remarkably superior to both 6 or 12 months based periodic portfolio revision method and market (KOSPI index).
One-class Classification based Fault Classification for Semiconductor Process Cyclic Signal

Process control is essential to operate the semiconductor process efficiently. This paper consider fault classification of semiconductor based cyclic signal for process control. In general, process signal usually take the different pattern depending on some different cause of fault. If faults can be classified by cause of faults, it could improve the process control through a definite and rapid diagnosis. One of the most important thing is a finding definite diagnosis in fault classification, even-though it is classified several times. This paper proposes the method that one-class classifier classify fault causes as each classes. Hotelling T2 chart, kNNDD(k-Nearest Neighbor Data Description), Distance based Novelty Detection are used to perform the one-class classifier. PCA(Principal Component Analysis) is also used to reduce the data dimension because the length of process signal is too long generally. In experiment, it generates the data based real signal patterns from semiconductor process. The objective of this experiment is to compare between the proposed method and SVM(Support Vector Machine). Most of the experiments' results show that proposed method using Distance based Novelty Detection has a good performance in classification and diagnosis problems.
Fail Prediction of DRAM Module Outgoing Quality Assurance Inspection using Ensemble Learning Algorithm

The DRAM module is an important part of servers, workstations and personal computer. Its malfunction causes a lot of damage on customer system. Therefore, customers demand the highest quality products. The company applies DRAM module Outgoing Quality Assurance Inspection(OQA) to secures the highest quality. It is the key process to decides shipment of products through sample inspection method with customer oriented tests. High fraction of defectives entering to OQA causes inevitable high quality cost. This article proposes the application of ensemble learning to classify the lot status to minimize the ratio of wrong decision in OQA, observing a potential in reducing the wrong decision.
Prediction of Driver's Cognitive Workload using Cognitive Architecture : ACT-R

The driver model based on the ACT-R cognitive architecture was developed in order to predict the performance and cognitive workload of a driver operating HVI devices. In the 10 HVI tasks, the predicted performance time and cognitive workload by the ACT-R driver model was well matched and highly correlated with the mean of performance times and subjective workload ratings from 15 participants, respectively. It is strongly proposed that the ACT-R driver model in this study can be applied to evaluate the usability of a new HVI design with less cost in the early stage of system development.
A Study on Workload Measurement Model for the Postal Delivery Service

In the postal delivery service, both the standardization of business process and the workload measurement is very important part of saving the cost and improving the efficiency. However, these are not easy to apply to real situation because of the labor-intensive and diversification of delivery environment. In this study, we develop the methodology for the standardization of business process and workload measurement model of the postal delivery service. Firstly, we introduce the work factor analysis on the postal delivery process. Then, we propose the methodology workload measurement model based on diversification of delivery environment.
Modeling the Value of RFID System using Value-Focused Thinking

Recently, more and more firms are considering the adoption of RFID technology because it is expected to make process automation easier and has many different application areas. A review of existing studies about RFID adoption methodology shows that the most of the proposed methodologies are mainly based on economic evaluations. However, in the near future when the adoption and diffusion of RFID become major forces among business firms, it would surely have some limits to decide its adoption solely on the basis of economic considerations. In order for all the important strategic objectives to be considered during the major decision processes, it is necessary to make explicit what the decision makers really want to achieve from the RFID system. In this paper, we propose a general value model of RFID system which can provide an overall vision of all values RFID adoption may offer and a way to search and evaluate alternatives on the basis of these values. Especially, this model contains not only opportunities but also risks of RFID adoption so that a balanced consideration can be made. The model building process was essentially based on the 'value-focused thinking' approach proposed by R. Keeney. The proposed model is expected to provide insights about what to do in the process of introduction in order to maximize the potential benefits and minimize the negative risks. Referring to this value model, the important decisions would have greater chance to be based on a balanced consideration of opportunities and risks.
Automated Generation of a Construction Schedule Based on the Work Method Template for 4D Simulation

BIM-based 4D simulation makes people easily understand complex construction process using 3D graphics model and helps them review and identify the construction schedule in each phase of the construction process. Moreover, 4D simulation can be used as reference data to determine the validity of the process in the design phase and will be utilized as a measure for checking the construction process. Therefore 4D simulation of construction improves efficiency of project management. However, current commercial applications available for 4D simulation do not provide sufficient functions for connection of 3D models and process information. In this paper, we propose an automated generation method through the definition of the process based on a work method template and developed the template based schedule generation system (TSGS).
Development of a Prototype Software for a Corporate Customer Relationship Management in the Postal Service

Conventional research on customer relationship management(CRM) in general has focused on the effects of individual customer's satisfaction, retention and profit management. However, corporate customers are more profitable than individual customers because of high volume and frequent transactions between companies. In this article, a prototype for a corporate customer relationship management is developed in the postal service. First, the frequency and amount of customers' usage were examined, and thereby the corporate customer rating scheme was established to provide customized service. Second, five different types of usage patterns were determined using clustering analysis. In addition, we presented the rationales behind the five types of patterns. Third, RFM(recency, frequency, monetary) analysis was performed, and then action plans were developed to increase sales. Finally, the prototype software was developed to automatically perform the above analysis using MS Excel program.
The Relationship between Supply Chain Management Performance Metrics and Corporate Value for Firms in Korea by Using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis : Focused on Inventory and Cash-To-Cash Cycle Time

This paper studies the relationship between SCM(Supply Chain Management) metrics and corporate value (Tobin's Q) for manufacturing and wholesale/retail firms in Korea. Specifically, the multiple regression analysis is used to investigate the relationships 1) between inventory level, inventory turns, and days of inventory and Tobin's Q and 2) between cash-to-cash (C2C) cycle time including its components such as days of inventory, days sales outstanding, and days payable outstanding and Tobin's Q. The results indicate that there exist statistically significant negative relationships between inventory levels and days of inventory (DOI) and Tobin's Q. Also, we found that there exist commonly known negative correlations between days of raw materials inventory and days of work in process (WIP) inventory and Tobin's Q. For the C2C cycle time, we found that there -exists a statistically significant negative relationship between the C2C cycle time and Tobin's Q. Also, we found that there exist commonly known correlations between the two components of C2C cycle time and Tobin's Q such as the negative for DOI and days sales outstanding. This study clearly shows the negative relationship in general between inventory levels and corporate value and between C2C time and corporate value, and this kind of result has not been found by previous studies in Korea.
A Study on Forecasting the Diffusion of Certified Testing Service Institutions and Direction of Policy Making in Defense Industry

In order to ensure the reliability and specialty of weapon system test results, a policy of extending certified testing service institutions has been driven by applying accreditation system of the ones in defense industry. Bass and Logistic models are used to apply the policy effectively and forecast the diffusion pattern of certified testing service institutions. The parameters for diffusion forecast are estimated using the diffusion pattern of certified testing service institutions in non-defense industry, and these are applied to forecast the diffusion of certified ones in defense industry. Coefficients of innovation and imitation of Bass model are analyzed to derive the factors influencing the early adoption and diffusion patterns. The more increasing the coefficients, the earlier adoption occurred. Diffusion pattern due to coefficient of imitation, internal factor, has larger effect on sensitivity of diffusion pattern. This means that the self recognition of necessity is more effectively worked than the policy or regulations driven by government.
Determination of New Layout in a Semiconductor Packaging Substrate Line using Simulation and AHP/DEA

The process of semiconductor(IC Package) manufacturing usually includes lots of complex and sequential processes. Many kinds of equipments are installed with the mixed concept of serial and parallel manufacturing system. The business environments of the semiconductor industry have been changed frequently, because new technologies are developed continuously. It is the main reason of new investment plan and layout consideration. However, it is difficult to change the layout after installation, because the major equipments are expensive and difficult to move. Furthermore, it is usually a multiple-objective problem. Thus, new investment or layout change should be carefully considered when the production environments likewise product mix and production quantity are changed. This paper introduces a simulation case study of a Korean company that produces packaging substrates(especially lead frames) and requires multi-objective decision support.

A Method of Progress Management of Projects Based on Schedule for Small and Medium Enterprises

Earned value management(EVM) based progress management was designed to systematically manage large or huge projects with budget based criteria. For this reason, existed methods of EVM based progress management have a practical difficulty to apply to small and medium enterprises(SMEs) not possessing enough human resource, time, and cost. In other words, SMEs have performed simultaneously many small-sized projects emphasizing more project delivery than project budget. This study focuses on the area of project management applying to many small-sized projects simultaneously conducted by SMEs. Thus, the method proposed in this study is to manage only the progress of projects after removing cost factor in order to reduce man powers required for allocating the budget of projects to their all activities in detail in the stage of project planning. This study reveals that SMEs are able to manage progress of many projects easily and intuitively using the proposed method.
