Analysis of the M/G/1 Priority Queue with vacation period depending on the Customer's arrival

M/G/1 queue with server vacations period depending on the previous vacation and customer's arrival is considered. Most existing studies on M/G/1 queue with server vacations assume that server vacations are independent of customers' arrival. However, some vacations are terminated by some class of customers' arrival in certain queueing systems. In this paper, therefore, we investigate M/G/1 queue with server vacations where each vacation period has different distribution and vacation length is influenced by customers' arrival. Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the waiting time distribution and the distribution of number of customers waiting for each class of customers are respectively derived. As performance measures, mean waiting time and average number of customers waiting for each class of customers are also derived.
A Study on User Authentication based on Keystroke Dynamics of Long and Free Texts

Keystroke dynamics refers to a way of typing a string of characters. Since one has his/her own typing behavior, one's keystroke dynamics can be used as a distinctive biometric feature for user authentication. In this paper, two authentication algorithms based on keystroke dynamics of long and free texts are proposed. The first is the K-S score, which is based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and the second is the 'R-A' measure, which combines 'R' and 'A' measures proposed by Gunetti and Picardi (2005). In order to verify the authentication performance of the proposed algorithms, we collected more than 3,000 key latencies from 34 subjects in Korean and 35 subjects in English. Compared with three benchmark algorithms, we found that the K-S score was outstanding when the reference and test key latencies were not sufficient, while the 'R-A' measure was the best when enough reference and test key latencies were provided.
Business Process Modeling using Process Structural Constraints and Social Relations

For convenient business process modeling we propose a mathematical approach to obtain appropriate process structures. In this paper, we define business process structural constraints, on which basis, using Social Network Analysis (SNA), we analyze the frequency of handover occurrences among performers in social network. We here present, therefrom, a new, mathematical approach to business process modeling that proceeds by identifying the social relations among activities.
An Analytic Network Process(ANP) Approach to Forecasting of Technology Development Success : The Case of MRAM Technology

Forecasting probability or likelihood of technology development success has been a crucial factor for critical decisions in technology management such as R&D project selection and go or no-go decision of new product development (NPD) projects. This paper proposes an analytic network process (ANP) approach to forecasting of technology development success. Reviewing literature on factors affecting technology development success has constructed the ANP model composed of four criteria clusters : R&D characteristics, R&D competency, technological characteristics, and technological environment. An alternative cluster comprised of two elements, success and failure is also included in the model. The working of the proposed approach is provided with the help of a case study example of MRAM (magnetic random access memory) technology.
Development of an Early Warning System based on Artificial Intelligence

To effectively predict financial crisis, this paper presents an early warning system based on artificial intelligence technologies. Both Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks are utilized for the proposed system. First, a genetic algorithm has been developed for the effective selection of economic indices, which are used for monitoring financial crisis. Then, an optimum weight of the selected indices has been determined by a neural network method. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed system, a series of experiments has been conducted by using the Korean economic indices from 2005 to 2008.
A Study on Diffusion of Public Call Centers in Korea

The development of information and communication technology affects people's life in social, cultural, and economic aspects. When this happens in public sector, it gives way more benefits than in private sector because of its high accessibility by public. Among the technological public services in Korea, call center service which provides administrative services by telephone and internet had been spotlighted as a new type of communication between people in demand and public service provider. Public call center service is expected to be continuously diffused in years due to its accessibility and convenience for public users. This study analyzes diffusion pattern of public call center service in Korea using Bass model and tries to suggest appropriate diffusion strategies. For practical cases, three most popular public call centers in Korea are analyzed in light of diffusion pattern and operating strategies. Our analyses identify that public call centers in Korea are facing continuous diffusion in two years and there exist certain strategies to efficiently expedite the diffusion.
A Decision Support System for the Operations of Vending Machine Supply Chains in a Green Logistics Environment

Regarding the green environment, it is important to boost the spread of environmentally friendly vending machines and to operate the vehicles for their inventory replenishments while minimizing emissions of greenhouse gases. In general, the vending machine management company lacks capability to operate the supply chain effectively in an integrated way under the dynamic, complex, and stochastic environment. This paper presents a decision support system, termed DSSVM, for the operations of the general and smart vending machine supply chains with stock-out-based, one stage item substitution in a green logistics environment. The DSSVM supports the estimation of item demand and substitution probabilities, determination of operation parameters, supply chain analysis, what-if analysis, and
analysis for which various analytical models are employed.
A Cost Estimation Development Methodology via CER's Linear Combination

The acquisition cost of defense weapon system has been continuously increasing because of art-of-technology of it. This phenomenon requires efficiency and transparency in the weapon system acquisition process through cost estimation. Therefore cost estimation is very important to the government acquisition programs to support decisions about funding and to evaluate resource requirement as a key decision point. The Commercial parametric cost estimating models have been using extensively to obtain appropriate cost estimates in early acquisition phase. These models have many restrictions to ensure the cost estimating result in Korean defense environment because they are developed based on foreign R&D data. Also estimation results are different from Korean defense industry accounting system. So, some studies have been tried to develop a CER (Cost Estimation Relationship) based on the Korean historical data. However, there are some restrictions to improve the predictability and ensure the stability of the developed singular CERs which consider the following data characteristics individually. The the abnormal conditions of data that is multicollinearity, outlier and heteroscedasticity under rack of the number of observations. In this paper, a CER's Linear Combining Model is proposed to overcome those limitations which guarantee more accurate estimation (25.42% higher precision) than other singular CERs. At least, this study is meaningful as a first attempt to improve the predictability of CER with insufficient data. The methodology suggested in this study will be useful to develop a complex Korean version cost estimating model development in future.
Genetic Algorithm with an Effective Dispatching Method for Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling with Sequence Dependent and Machine Dependent Setup Times

This paper considers a unrelated parallel machine scheduling problem with ready times, due times and sequence and machine-dependent setup times. The objective of this problem is to determine the allocation of jobs and the scheduling of machines to minimize the total tardy time. A mathematical model for optimal solution is derived. An in-depth analysis of the model shows that it is very complicated and difficult to obtain optimal solutions as the problem size becomes large. Therefore, a genetic algorithm using an effective dispatching method is proposed. The performance of the proposed genetic algorithm is evaluated using several randomly generated examples.
Mission Path Planning to Maximize Survivability for Multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles based on 3-dimensional Grid Map

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a powered pilotless aircraft, which is controlled remotely or autonomously. UAVs are an attractive alternative for many scientific and military organizations. UAVs can perform operations that are considered to be risky or uninhabitable for humans. UAVs are currently employed in many military missions and a number of civilian applications. For accomplishing the UAV's missions, guarantee of survivability should be preceded. The main objective of this study is to suggest a mathematical programming model and a
_PGA (A-star with Post Smoothing_Parallel Genetic Algorithm) for Multiple UAVs's path planning to maximize survivability. A mathematical programming model is composed by using MRPP (Most Reliable Path Problem) and MTSP (Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem). After transforming MRPP into Shortest Path Problem (SPP),
_PGA applies a path planning for multiple UAVs.
