Development a Knowledge-based Medical Diagnosing System for Thyroid Disorders

In this study, we will present a knowledge-based consulting system, called THYCONS, for diagnosing thyroid disorders. It has been developed to make the knowledge and expertise of the human expert more widely available, therefore achieving a high-quality diagnosis. Frames will be used to represent the medical knowledge of thyroid disorders, and several rules are attached in each slot of a frame. The uncertainty of diagnostic processes is manipulated by the subjective Bayesian method under the assumption that the pieces of evidence are conditionally independent. Searching for the group of diagnostic tests to be carried out and their optimum sequences will be established in order to infer a more correct diagnosis on the basis of maximum information gain with cost and time restrictions. Additionally. differential diagnosis will be carried out based on the information gained.
Development of a Tool Management System for Turning Machine

The efficient and economical use of an FMS presupposes a good capability : flexibility, reliability, maintainability and built-in quality assurance. One subsystem of an FMS, which often increases capability, is the tooling management. The main problems associated with tooling in an FMS are large variety of tools, many setups, insufficient use of presetted tools, tool condition control, tool shortages, errors in tooling data and maintainence. This paper presents a reseach on the development of a system which manages the tool data for the factory using NC turning machines. The tool information concerning each production stages of the industry is studied in the CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) view point.
An Integrated Robot-Trajectory-Planning Scheme for Spray Painting Operations

The use of robots for painting operations is a powerful alternative as a means for automation and quality improvement. A typical method being used for motion planning of the painting robot is to guide the robot along the desired path : the "lead-through" method. Although this method is simple and has been widely used, it has several drawbacks a) The robot cannot be used during the teaching period, b) A human is exposed to a hostile environment, c) The motions taught are, at best, human's skill level. To deal with the above problems, an integrated robot-trajectory planning scheme is presented. The new scheme takes CAD data describing the shape and geometry of the objects, and outputs an optimal trajectory in the sense of coating thickness and painting time. The purpose of this paper is to investigate theoretical backgrounds for such a scheme including geometric modeling, painting mechanics and robot trajectory planning, and develop algorithms for generating spray gun paths and minimum-time robot trajectories. Future study is to implement these algorithms on an workstation to develop an integrated software system ; ATPS(Automatic Trajectory Planning System) for spray painting robots.
A Computer Simulation Study of an Automated Storage and Retrieval System

One of the most important and powerful tools available for design and/or study of the operation of complex systems and processes is simulation. Since automated material handling systems like AS/RS are often quite complex, a network-based simulation model is developed to analyze an automobile part supplier's automated storage and retrieval system(AS/RS). The network simulation model is implemented in the SLAM Ⅱ on a VAX 8800 computer. Performance of the AS/RS was tested for 3 dispatching rules, 3 work load levels, 2 storage policies, 3 levels of stacker crane break-down, and 2 conveyor system layouts. Results indicate that the AS/RS performance is primarily affected by the dispatching rule and work load level.
