System Architecture and Datum Reference Frame for Computer Aided Fixture Planning System

This paper deals with the development of a computer aided fixture planning system that automatically selects set-ups, set-up sequence and fixture design for prismatic parts. This study presents the hierarchical data structure for feature-based part model and the preprocessing procedure for the proposed system. The preprocessing procedure generates tools such as DDR(Degree of Dimensional Relationship), AMV(Admissible Misalignment Value) and the datum reference frame of each feature according to the proposed decision table. The proposed system is called AFIX(Automated FIXture planning system) which is implemented by using C language on the workstation. A case study for a cavity plate is presented to show the performance of the AFM.
Systematization of Design for Assembly

The important subject for assembly automation is to improve the assemblability of parts. To do this, parts and subassembly are analyzed and alternatives are constructed systematically. The optimal alternative that has the highest assemblability should be chose among all the constructed alternatives by the proper criteria and evaluating methods.
Development of Time-Expanded Network using Hold-over Arcs

The problem of scheduling the passage things with low transit priority to maximize the amonnt that can be sent during given time periods without interfering with the fixed schedule for passage things with high transit priority in a track, is treated in this paper. The problem is transformed into the Time Expanded Network without traverse time through the Ford and Fulkerson Model and the Enumeration Algorithm is developed for solutions using TENET GENerator(TENETGEN). Finally, the proposed algorithm is compared with Dinic's maximal-flow algorithm and examined for the availability of the procedures on the personal computer.

Many authors derived MTTF/MTBF for an operating system by analyzing its actual life time data. However, it is difficult to derive MTTF/MTBF when few breakdowns accur throughout a year. In this paper, we address a new approach to solve that problem under a preventive maintenance policy, in which few breakdowns occur, and also introduce a case study using the results obtained.
An Automatic Inspection System Using Computer Vision

A line search method is developed to locate all the conerpoints of 2-dimensional polygon images for inspection purposes. This optimization-based method is used to approximate a 2-D curved object by a polygon. This scheme is also developed for inspection of objects in industrial environment. The inspection includes dimensional verification and pattern matching which compares a 2-D image of an object to a pattern image. The method proves to be computationally efficient and accurate for real time application.
A Clinic Decision Support System on Macintosh HyperCard and Excel

For the strategic management of the small and/or mid sized clinics, the introduction of the clinic information system is necessary. Currently there are not many information systems for the clinics, yet. In this study, we have developed a clinic information system (CLINSYS) as a guiding prototype and suggested the development directions of the total integrated clinic decision support system. For the better user interface and easy communication. the object-oriented language Macintosh Hyper-Card and Excel are used as the developing tools. And as a part of the integrated decision system, an expert system to consult about the urine test and the blood test interpretation has been developed using the Macintosh spreadsheet Excel.

. This paper presented a case study for the economic feasibility analysis of changing an existing coal-oil power plant to a CWM power plant. The economic analysis of changing a coal-oil power plant to a CWM power plant was based on the total annual incremental costs of two power plants. We found that this project was economically and environmentally acceptable.
Development of Object Oriented Manufacturing Simulator

This paper concerns the issues involved in development and use of manufacturing simulation software using the Object Oriented Programming System(OOPS) in a computer integrated manufacturing environment, with particular emphasis on large scale integrated circuit fabrication. We introduce OOPS and compare it with existing simulation packages as well as general purpose languages. Our implementation of OOPS shows numerous advantages over the other programming systems. Based on our experience, guidelines for devloping manufacturing simulation systems in OOPS are discussed.
A Knowledge-Based Approach to Design for Assembly

A study showed that the two most important obstacles to assembly automation were that product designs are generally not assembly oriented and that most components cannot be handled automatically without problems. In the view of the importance of well designed product with high assemblability, a tool must be developed to pre-evaluate a product during design phase whether it can be assembled with minimum efforts. In this research, a prototype expert system for DFA has been developed that can be used to advise the designer of difficulties that his/her design presents for automatic handling during manufacture. This rule-based system has been implemented on an IBM personal computer, using the Texas Instruments' Personal Consultant Plus.
MARC FORMAT Implementation on the Development of An Online Catalog For Machine-Readable Data Files

One of the major problems on the design of an online database for machine readable data file is on the implementation of MARC format for communication with the Library of Congress or OCLC. Most of the cataloging data to make manual card catalogs are stored on magnetic tapes based on the MARC format at LC or OCLC and are sent to local libraries. Therefore, local libraries can avoid the expensive process of cataloging for the books they own. Instead, they can retrieve the necessary cataloging information from the tape and print out manual card catalogs. A problem with MARC is that it is not designed for databases, but for portability to be read at any type of computer. Therfore, it is not practical to use the format on the development of an online database as long as the database is developed in conjunction with a commercial powerful database package. In this paper a possible methodology to resolve the conflicts between the objective of DBMS and MARC is discussed. It is to satisfy the requirements from a commercial DBMS while leaving a room for MARC to communicate with LC and OCLC.
