An MCDM-Based Integrated Economic Analysis Model for the New Telecommunication Services

In this study, an integrated economic analysis model to analyze the new telecommunication services is developed. This model considers both the technological and managerial aspests altogether with respect to the profit and public benefit criteria. To encounter the various dynamically changing environments and evaluation criteria, multiple criteria decision making (MCDM)techniques are employed. The model consists of three stages; The first stage surveys related formal or informal data, generates analysis alternatives, and performs acceptabillty test in view of marketing. The second stage generates executive alternatives for each acceptable analysis alternative and checks the executionability in view of telecommunication technologies. The third stage performs the final integrated economic analysis including the profitability analysis. This study offers a basis for the future development of decision support system or expert system on the economic analysis of the new telecommunication services.
A Study on the Improvement of the ABC Analysis using TOPSIS

The ABC analysis is a widely used inventory control technique which consists of classifying inventory items into three categories according to annual dollar usage and concentrating managerial efforts on the high value items. But its major weakness is that the classification is somewhat arbitrary and is made in the light of single criterion, the annual usage. In this paper, a modified approach using TOPSIS is proposed where 1) the inventory items are ranked, rather than classified into three categories, in the order of relative importance and 2) the latter is determined by considering the multiple criteria such as annual usage, difficulty of procurement, lead time and shelf life. A case study was performed with the field data from a company producing electronical parts. The rank order produced by TOPSIS was judged quite reasonable by the company inventory control manager.
Production Planning and Kanban Operations in JIT Systems for Small Manufacturers

An approach to Just-In-Time for small job-shop-type manufacturers is presented. This is aimed at those who understand the pull production system, however, cannot afford either swift changeover in workcenters or frequent delivery to customers. First, as a production planning technique, a lot-sizing model entitled Multilevel Least Total Cost Model(MLTCM) is developed; The production order quantities of each components be those requiremensts of the end item production lot. The contribution of MLTCM is shown via simulation. Then, a framework of the Kanban operations is designed; A Production Control Kanban is introduced as a communication tool with Production Kanban in a job-shop.
An Analysis of Hyd-Cylinder Shop Facilities Planning by Simulation

This paper presents alternatives for facilities planning and analyses them using simulation approach. For this purpose, hydro-cylinder production line was sampled as a case study. Several facilities planning alternatives are evaluated based on the several factors such as line balancing, equipment utilization, optimum number of equipments, inventory size, flow time, bottleneck machine, and productive capacity. An optimal facilities planning is proposed based on the degree of meeting with the all factors evaluated. The simulation language employed in this study is SIMAN and the data used for simulation are provided by hydro-cylinder shop.
A Study on Intelligent FMS Designer

In order to design an FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System), an effective design tool is necessary for selecting and anlayzing the complex interacting factors of a manufacturing system. Considering most of the previous researches have been focused on evaluating the designed FMS, development of an integrated FMS designing system is needed for performing the design task such as machine selection and layout determination as well as the evaluation task of the designed FMS. In this paper, we developed a prototype of such a system called the intelligent FMS designer based on the techniques of Expert System and Simulation. By using this designing system, possible design alternatives can be analyzed and appropriate manufacturing capacity can be estimated at the designing stage. Various operating characteristics of the designed FMS can be also predicted before it is implemented. Eventually a suitable design alternative can be provided with cost details within relatively short time period. To demonstrate the performance and effectiveness of the designer, a simple example is tested. The results show a great potential for automating design processes of an FMS.
A Microcomputer Program for Loading Pattern of Pallet and Container

A common problem for manufacturing industries, especially consumer goods industries, is how to establish standardized procedures for loading finished goods onto pallets or containers for subsequent storage and distribution. Utilizing previous research results on the palletizing problem, this paper develops micro-computer based programs which generate an optimum loading pattern leading to the minimum amount of unused pallet or container space. Development of pallet layout chart is also included in the computer programs. The results are displayed by computer-graphic. For the users who are unfamiliar with pallet loading problem and computer system, pull-down menu and user-computer interactive data input procedures are adopted.
The Development and Evaluation of Gear Machining Cells

This paper presents FMC prototypes developed to propagate manufacuting automation for small and medium sized enterprises in Korea. The system consists of two cells used to machine oil pump drive gears, turing cell and hobbing cell. Characteristics and processes of the fears are anaylzed for the cell design. The system configuration and functions of individual component machines are described. Furthermore, the developed system is compared with the current manual system in terms of manpower and cost reduction and productivity increase.
A Framework for the Information System Design to support Distribution System in the Confectionery Industry

The purpose of this paper is to establish a framework of the information system design for the distribution management in the confectionery industry. First, we present the characteristics of distribution information system and the distribution information flow in the confectionery industry. Next, we present a sketch of the computer-communication system as the mechanism for improving communication within the distribution system and design the subsystems of distribution information system. And we design the data structure for manipulating distribution information. Finally, we present the case study in which we design the distribution information system in the confectionery industry.
