IE Introduction History and Situation in Korea

Since scientific management techniques are introduced into Korea about 1958, the backwardness of Korea companies and the ignorant owners of the companies had been main obstacles in aboriginality of those techniques. With the activation of industry in 1970s, however, the adaptation of IE is also activated. This paper, although it may be slipshod, describes the present situation as well as the adaptation history of IE techniques. This is for the expected necessity of memorizing the introduction of IE in the future.
An Expert System for Statistical Process Control

Various types of control charts are available, but their full advantages are not being utilized due to the lack of experts who can select, design, implement, and interpret. An expert system is developed which would perform these functions as if each process had a resident expert.
Setup Planning for Machining processes Using Expert System Approach

Setup planning for machining processes is a part of fixture planning which is also a part of process planning. A setup of a part is defined as a group of features which are machined while the part is fixtured in one single fixture. Setup planning includes a number of tasks such as the selection of setup, sequence of setups and datum frame for each setup. Setup planning is an important function in fixture planning which must be able to support and to clamp a workpiece to prevent deflections caused by machining and clamping loads. This paper presents setup planning system using expert system approach(SPES) for prismatic parts which can be machined on vertical milling machine. SPES consists of preprocessing module and main processing module. Preprocessing module executes the conversion of feature data to frame type data and the determination of setups, and main processing module executes the determination of datum frame of each setup and sequance of setups. Preprocessing module is coded by C language and main processing module is a rule-based expert system using EXSYS pro. The performance of SPES is evaluated through case studies and the results show successful work except for operation sequence of machining holes. This is due to the limited rules for machining holes.
Structured Analysis of SNS for Development of Production Inventory System Fitted to Minor Enterprise

Sequential Numbering System(SNS) is one of the production and inventory management system, which is more effective and practical to minor enterprises than Material Requirement Planning (MRP) system or Just-in-Time(JIT) system. The purpose of the paper is the structured analysis of SNS as the first phase of software development. Data Flow Diagram(DFD), Data Dictionary(DD), and Mini-Specs are used to analyze the system through the second level. The result can be exploited to SNS software design and programming.
Development of Measurement Assurance Test Procedures between Calibrations

A nonstandard instrument used in the filed frequently becomes out-of-calibration due to environmental noise, misuse, aging, etc. A substantial amount of loss may result if such nonstandard instrument is used to check product quality and performance. Traditional periodic calibration at the calibration center is not capable of detecting out-of-calibration status while the instrument is in use, and therefore, statistical methods need to be developed to check the status of a nonstandard instrument in the field between calibrations. Developed in this paper is a unified measurement assurance model in which statistical calibration at the calibration center and measurement assurance test in the filed are combined. We developed statistical procedures to detect changes in precision and in the coefficients of the calibration equation. Futher, computational experiments are conducted to evaluate how the power of test varies with respect to the parameters involved. Based upon the computational results we suggest procedures for designing effective measurement assurance tests.
A Study on Layout Planning by a Fuzzy Set Approach

This study presents a fuzzy set-theoretic approach for preparing a from-to chart and a relationship chart in order to increase system effectiveness through the proper layout planning. Though there have been a number of studies on the layout planning, they have been not well applied in industries because of difficulties in preparation of the two charts. In this study, a fuzzy mag count as a transportability measure is suggested, and the procedure for preparing two charts is explained on the basis of the count. Finally, this approach is applied to the layout planning of a ship repair shop.
A Study on the Layout Planning of Multiple Plants

In this paper, the plant layout planning is optimized at the K-area of the K-airline. The K-area includes 15 activies. The initial solution is found qualitatively by designing a space relationship diagram for the relationship. The cost of material handling is minimized by finding the final layout plan using CRAFT. In comparing to the master plan of K-airline, the final layout plan in this research can reduce the cost of material handling by 52%.
A study on Material Flow Improvement of Multiproduct Flow Line Production System

This study deals with analysis of material from in Tube manufacturing line. This line is a multi product flow ship type production line, which consists of 5 steps of work station. Some work stations involve in unnecessary moving activities of workers and much work in-process storage due to the non-systematic material flow with respect to the different lot size production of multi-items. To improve productivity for this line, one alternative is considered such as grouping two work stations by using GT and JIT concepts. Also, feasibility analysis for this alternative is performed using and simulation model built by SIMAN IV simulation language.
