Expert System for optimal cutting speed and feed rate selection

In this study, expert system for the selection of the optimal cutting speed and feed rate was developed using NEXPERT system shell. The NC system has been usually used inefficiently because the input command, which contains cutting speed, feed-rate and the depth of cut, is fixed value which depends on principally operator's experience and machining handbooks providing a guideline for applicable ranges. On the other hand, the optimal cutting conditions vary with time, and depend on tool and machine characteristics, work materials, and cost factor and so on. In this study, if cutting factors, such as, cutting method, material type, cutting depth, and tool nose radius are specified, our expert system gets the information about the standard cutting speed form the cutting speed database, and provides optimum feed rate for these cutting conditions. This cutting speed database can be updated by inputting valid cutting speed which is obtained form the practices.
A Study on Injection Molding Process and Quality Monitoring by Response Surface Analysis

Quality of injection molded parts is dependent on both mold design and processing conditions. From the mold design point of view, an optimal shrinkage should be used to compensate the shrinkage of molded parts. From the processing point of view, it is important to analyze the priority of processing conditions because a number processing conditions affect the quality of molded parts. Processing analysis employing the design of experiment was performed, and the shrinkage of molded part was considered as a characteristic parameter to improve the quality. As the result of the analysis of variance on SN ratio of a characteristic value, injection speed and bolding pressure were selected as two effective process parameters. Regression analysis on shrinkage and processing conditions was carried out, and an optimal processing condition was obtained by the response surface analysis. Shrinkage at the optimal condition could be used to reduce the number of try-cut at the step of mold making. The ranges of indirect control parameter, such as maximum cavity pressure or weight, measured at the optimal processing condition were used for monitoring the quality of molded parts in process.
A Development Tool for AGVS Controller using Simulation

It is a time-consuming work to develop a control software for AGVS considering different physical arrangements and transport requirements in automated manufacturing systems. An integrated software environment is suggested to support the development of the control software by utilizing a simulation software which imitates changes in the target shop floor. First, the basic functions of the controller are defined and interactions between modules(function) are identified to enhance the modularity of the controller. Prototype software is developed for the simulation station and the control station, respectively, which are connected with each other by a communication link to transmit predefined messages.
The Development of the Drawing Information Management System Based on Concurrent Engineering

As part of effort to reduce the process time from design to manufacture and delivery, the concept of CE(concurrent engineering) has been applied to design process. In this research, the drawing information management system (DIMS) was developed based on CE. The system can distribute electronic documents of drawing or work instruction parallel to all reviewers simultaneously and collect their annotations through network. Mark-up functions are used for annotations on the electronic documents. DIMS is a system which integrates drawing management, engineering BOM, CAD and raster drawings, etc. In this system, a SUN workstation is interfaced with PCs by LAN. CIMCAD-2D, Image Hunter, and ORACLE RDBMS are used for CAD drawings, raster drawings, and drawing information management, respectively. As an integration tool for all the information, LINKAGE is adopted.
An Establishment of the Forecasting System for General Index using Fuzzy Delphi Method

The Delphi method is widely used for long and middle range forecasting in management science. It is a method by which the subjective data of experts are made to converge using statistical analysis. The Fuzzy Delphi Method(F.D.M.), anew application of the Delphi method using Triangular Fuzzy Numbers(T.F.N.), can help to predict the uncertainty, synthesize the opinion and calculation of those assumed dissemblance index and fuzzy distance. Furthermore, the programming of the F.D.M. process to feed paper and data back to experts can make them more accurately predict the various information.
An Automated Visual Inspection System for Wire Harnesses

A wire harness is an assembly cables and/or wires to transmit signals between electronic assemblies in automobiles and electronic appliances. Inspection of such a wire harness is to check the sequence of assembled cabled each of which is identified by its own color. This paper presents an automated visual inspection system for wire harnesses incorporating back-propagation neural network as a color identification device. The tests performed by using real test specimens show that the inspection system works well enough.
Constructing a Automatic Real-time Line-Scan Inspection System

The purpose of this research is to construct real-time image acquisition system for a line-scan inspection system as a computer vision system. To construct the line-scan inspection system, many problem arise. However, problems of image acquisitions using linear CCD are practically studied in this paper. These problems are concerned to proper lighting systems, relations with handling system, camera systems, and impacts due to the noise of environment. These problems are examined separately, and proper configurations for each case are suggested to construct the line-scan image acquisition system.
