An Analysis of Assessment Items Based on Strands of Mathematical Proficiency

Assessment provides valuable information for both teachers and students regarding how well each is doing. Assessment also defines what students must know and be able to do to succeed in a teacher's class. The purpose of this study is to analysis the mathematics assessment items based on strands of mathematical proficiency of National Research Council. According to the study results, the rate of right answers was high in adaptive reasoning and conceptual understanding(over 80%). On the other hand, the rate of right answers was lower in strategic competence(62%) than other strands.
The teaching-learning practices all learners can participate in mathematics instruction.

Mathematics educators oriented to reform-based curricular have asserted that mathematics teachers should lead instructions where all students in their classrooms are able to participated. In this paper, some practices for them to implement it are discussed. Before explaining them, some discussions are made about students ability to construct knowledge. One of them is that teachers should know different learners construct different understandings because of their differences of prior knowledge and reasoning ability. Also, it was discussed that teachers consider classroom environments, assigning children's sitting and tasks in the light of learning. The reason to state them is that perspectives of them should be changed. Finally, "Teacher's careful listening to learners' responses", "Why do think in that way?, How do you know?, What is it meant?", "accepting ideas from all learners", "no supporting a particular idea", "utilizing waiting time", and "teacher's responses to learner's errors and mistakes" are discussed as practices for letting all learners be participated in the mathematics instruction.
A Study on the Questioning in the Elementary Mathematics Textbook

The purpose of this research was to analyze questioning types of the Korean Elementary Mathematics Textbook in grade 3 and suggest the direction of questioning strategies for enhancing creativity in mathematics lessons. For the research, the researcher analyzed questioning types of the 3rd grade mathematics textbook and the changes of the questions compared with the questions in the previous textbooks. The author suggested the following recommendations. First, the questioning strategies of the revised mathematics textbook tends more to enhance students' creativity than the previous ones did. Second, teachers need to know the students' level of mathematics before starting their mathematics lessons because teachers can provide more effective differentiated questioning to the students. Third, students can response tuned to their level of mathematics if they meet with open-ended questions. It is desirable to develop good open-ended questions to fit students' abilities. Last, teachers should provide opportunities for students to share their own mathematical thinking. In risk-free environment, students can willingly participate at debating over mathematics proofs and refutation. Teachers should make efforts to make the classroom norm or culture free to debate among students, which leads to enhancement of students' creativity or mathematical creativity.
A Study on the Erdniev's Expansion of Didactical Unit and Expanded Didactical Unit in a His Mathematics Textbook of Elementary School

In this paper we analyze a concept 'didactical unit', and some concrete methods of expanding didactical unit studied by P.M.Erdniev. Erdniev studied the concept for a long time, wrote mathematics textbooks from 1st grade to 9th grade. In these textbooks he tried to embody his ideas related with expanded didactical unit. We analyze Erdniev's mathematics textbook of 3rd grade.
