Cho, Seok Swoo ;
Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2559~2565
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2559
Material of boat hull has been used mainly with FRP composite materials until now. FRP boat hull manufacturing began to be restricted after the 2000's under international regulation on ocean environment safety. Shipyard on a small scale has manufactured polyethylene canoe and kayak hulls. Polyethylene has the melting point lower than the existing hull materials. Thermal stress occurs on outer hull surface when the polyethylene boat hull is exposed to sunlight. If it happens everyday, boat hull undergoes fatigue damage due to thermal fatigue. Therefore, this study presents the statistical fatigue life estimation on the HDPE boat hull subject to repeated thermal stress under three point bending condition.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2596~2603
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2596
The precision and endurance of tire mold are very important factors to decide the quality of tire. However, the investigation on the thermal deformation of tire mold has a lot of trouble because the tire mold is produced in airtight permanent casting material. In this study, the thermal deformations such as temperature, displacement and stress distributions inside the AC7A tire mold casting material were analyzed by numerical analysis according to the preheating temperature of permanent casting device. In order to verify the results of numerical analysis, the experiments for temperature measurement of the AC7A casting material were carried out under the same condition with numerical analysis. For the numerical analysis, "COMSOL Multiphysics" was used. The preheating temperatures were set up
, respectively. The thermal deformations were calculated in each case. When the preheating temperature is
, displacement and stress are the lowest with 0.25mm and 0.351GPa, but the temperature is the highest with
. When the experimental results were compared with the numerical results, there were some temperature differences because of the latent heat by phase change heat transfer. However, the cooling patterns were almost similar except for the latent heat section.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2604~2611
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2604
The Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) system has been highly interested in future transportation developments due to its on-demand and optimized door-to-door transport capability. However, the major impediments to the commercialization of PRT are the high cost for construction of infrastructures as opposed to the small transport capacity and difficulty in defining the role of PRT in building a balanced transportation system. In this study, the vertical transfer device for the PRT vehicle is developed to provide more flexible and better compatible urban mobility services between means of transportation, which is expected to meet particular demands in a particular environment. This apparatus was initially designed based on the basis of vertical circulating conveyors with steel chains, which is frequently used in logistics. Its advantages are capable of the non-stop loading and reduced head-way time. Most importantly, it was intensified by the additional idea to ensure the stable and reliable transfer of the PRT vehicle fully loaded with passengers. The 1/10-scale prototype was successfully tested to demonstrate a fundamental mechanism of vertical transfer and identify unexpected user requirements prior to a real manufacturing process.

Lee, Jae-Kon ; Kim, Jin-Gon ;
Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2618~2623
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2618
A hybrid model is proposed to easily predict the effective thermal conductivity of composites with aligned- and coated-short fibers, whose aspect ratio is not constant. The thermal conductivities of coated fillers are computed by using the generalized self-consistent model, resulting in that composites are simply simulated by the matrix with the equivalent short fibers. Finally, the thermal conductivity of the composites is predicted using the modified Eshelby model. The predicted results by the representative models and hybrid model are compared for the composite with aligned- and coated-short fibers of single aspect ratio. It is demonstrated that the hybrid model can be applied to the composite with aligned- and short-fibers of aspect ratios, 2 and 10, without any difficulties.

A Study on the delivery of brand image information to consumers by telecom companies' SI(Store Identity) (through comparing SI between Korea telecom companies and foreign famous telecom companies)
Kim, Jong Sung ;
Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2639~2644
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2639
The renewal cycle, which newly decorates stores, has been shortened, as the marketing competition between telecommunication companies has been extended to the stores, due to the rapid increase of mobile phone users and fast replacement cycle of products. The store renewal made by major telecommunication companies, including signboard, has been pushed in order for telecommunication companies to give strong impression about their own brand identity to consumers. Consumers want stores not only to sell cheap and high quality products but also to provide customer experience, by which customers can feel store, product and service and accept them. Especially, since the competition between telecommunication companies is getting tough, it is the current trend that the number of stores is increasing much, and telecommunication companies are recently renewing their stores, with the concept of SI(Store Identity), which changes store image into the incorporated image including interior and exterior, rather than just replacing CI(Corporate Identity), when they renew stores. It can be said that SI(Store Identity) is an important factor, by which companies consistently design visual factors such as interior and sign, and then apply them to the interior and exterior of the stores, and thereby give good store image to consumers, and ultimately have great effect on the increase of sales volume. This kind of activity can be image-controlled by companies' Identity Management, and it can be a very important factor in terms of marketing. In this study, it has an objective to compare and analyze SI of domestic telecommunication companies and foreign telecommunication companies, and then suggest effective SI direction.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2677~2687
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2677
Entrepreneurship of a founder and psychological characteristics are very important factors for the start-up success. To understand the importance like this, this study investigated effect relationships of the entrepreneurship and psychological characteristics on the start-up success. For this, 122 copies of the questionnaire were empirically analyzed for the youth entrepreneurs who entered the youth founder academy which is founded and managed by the Small and Medium Business Corporation. According to results of analysis, both the entrepreneurship consisting of proactivenss, risk taking and autonomy, and the internal locus of control, the psychological characteristics were found to have positive effects on the start-up success. Therefore, this study suggested theoretical and practical implications, as below, according to the results. Firstly, we must be aware of the importance of the entrepreneurship from the perspective of a successful establishment, and, prospective entrepreneurs, who are planning to the start-up, have to judge their entrepreneurship and, only then, make a decision. Secondly, we have to put our best efforts into developing more effective education on start-up, which deals with improving youth founder's entrepreneurship. Therefore, education institutions for start-up are needed in order to develop educational programs such as "Entrepreneurship Training Programs". Thirdly, we must recognize that the role of family is important because most entrepreneurship and psychological characteristics are formed in a person's childhood. Forth, the entrepreneur, themselves, must realize that they has to make an effort to improve their entrepreneurship. Lastly, youth founder's internal locus of control has to be enhanced. Thus, greater attention is required from both the entrepreneur themselves, and educational institutions for start-up.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 2839~2843
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2839
In this study, the relation between the corneal refractive power and the tear break-up time(TBUT) was analyzed. The results can be effectively used in eye clinics and served as the reference on wearing the contact lenses. We had measured the radius of the corneal of university students who are in the range of 21 to 27 year-old and who don't have eye disease. The corneal refractive power was calculated by using the radius of the corneal. And TBUT is the time when the mire image is distorted first time. The relation between the corneal refractive power and TBUT in right eye was a linear as 'y=37.921-0.610x', in which the larger the refractive power of the cornea is, the shorter TBUT is(negative relationship; r=-0.462, p=0.010). The relation in left eye was also a negatively linear as 'y=41.894-0.695x'(r=-0.509, p=0.004). Consequently, in both eyes the corneal refractive power and TBUT have a negative correlation when myopia is a high. It is possible to predict TBUT, which is necessary in deciding on wear of contact lenses, by measuring the corneal radius of subjects.

In this paper, a simulation study on dynamic characteristics of wind turbine generators is performed. The generation of electricity using wind turbines is being recently spotlighted as a renewable way. The wind is an infinite primary energy source. Further, other environmental impacts of wind power are limited as well. Therefore, the wind turbine generation itself has many advantages. However, when generators using wind turbines are connected to the conventional power system, the impact of the power system is different from that of the power system that consists of only synchronous generators, especially in dynamic characteristics. Therefore, it is essential to examine the characteristics of wind turbines in order to ensure reliable wind turbine generation in the power system containing wind turbine generators. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of GE1.5MW wind turbine are simulated by using PSS/E. In the simulation of GE1.5MW wind turbine, wind speed variation, load change and voltage deviation of infinite bus are considered.

Recently, with the world-wide issues about global warming and CO2 reduction, a number of distributed generations(DGs) such as photovoltaic(PV) and wind power(WP), are interconnected with the distribution systems. However, DGs can change the direction of the power flow from one-direction to bi-direction, and also change the direction and amount of fault current of existing distribution systems. Therefore, it may cause the critical problems on the power quality and protection coordination. This paper proposes an operation algorithm for bi-directional protection coordination using and apply it for the evaluation system for protection coordination. From the simulation results It is found that the proposed method is more effective and convenient than existing method.

This paper proposes a modeling and controller design method of Flywheel Energy Storage System(FESS) for solving the unstable operation problem in hybrid generation system with wind turbine and diesel generator applied in island area. FESS is considered as a permanent magnetic synchronous machine connected to flywheel because of its efficiency. The controller of FESS is composed of AC/DC/AC back-to-back converter. The AC/DC converter is designed to charge/discharge according to the frequency variation and the DC/AC converter to operate to keep the DC bus voltage constant. The proposed modeling and controller design method of FESS was applied to hybrid generation system with wind turbine and diesel generator. The unstable operation problem owing to wind variations was solved through simulation results.

DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.2985
Train radio system has been constructed in the second stage of Kyung-bu high speed railway adopting TETRA(Terrestial trunk radio) standard at 851MHz frequency band. The base stations of the train radio system should be located along railway track to ensure seamless communication between train and wayside taking the path loss of train radio propagation into consideration. This paper provides a quantitative analysis of the path loss characteristics based on the measurement results of the train radio propagation along the high speed railway. The free space propagation model and Okumura-Hata model are generally used for base station design, but they predicted 10dB lower or 20dB higher than the measured path loss. Linear regression of the field measured data by applying the log-distance model shows path loss exponent is in the 2.8-3.2 range, which can be used to predict the path loss of the train radio propagation.

Satisfying the large car impact condition of the high level SB5-B for "SMART Highway" longitudinal barriers, the possibility of increase of the small car impact velocity from 120km/h to 130km/h was investigated. Through computer simulation using input parameters calibrated to full-scale crash test results, various longitudinal semi-rigid barrier models were improved such that for the small car impact speed of 120km/h the change of longitudinal and transverse velocities of the impact vehicle can satisfy the THIV limit. The barrier model determined through this process satisfied the performance assessment criteria for SB5-B impact conditions. Varying the wing angle of slip block-outs of the passed barrier model, the possibility of increase of the small car impact velocity was investigated by FEA and a full-scale crash test was conducted. It has been shown that the possibility to increase the small car impact speed to 130km/h is high if the test facility condition for 130km/h impact velocity is better equipped.

In this paper, we propose a robot control data generation system applying context aware mechanism in order to control the robot manipulator which automatically sorts parcels. The context aware mechanism generates intelligent information to control a robot using context data such as the parcel shape, weight, location and barcodes. The proposed system collects context data of the parcel and generates robot control data to pick up and drop parcels. Then a robot manipulator, which receives control data of picking-up and dropping, processes the automated sorting of parcels according to delivery persons and delivery routes. It will contribute not only to save much time and cost but also to reduce the industrial accidents.

As abnormal climate phenomena frequently happen due to the after-effect of the global warming, all nations suggest climate change response policies in many different fields to prevent global warming by reducing greenhouse gas. Especially, these days, the realization that the greenhouse gas from city buildings should be decreased is growing, and it is because that buildings are accounted for a quarter of national greenhouse gas emission and it is more than half the percentage of emissions within the city. Accordingly, Korean government sees the need to take an initiating role to fulfill low-carbon green policies and promotion strategies in the public sector, and wants to facilitate greenhouse gas reduction in the private sector as well. In this background, this study tries to examine the low-carbon planning element in public buildings and figure out the amount of carbon reduction and economic analysis centering Cheongju city as case study. Lastly, we propose some suggestion for low-carbon and greening of public buildings.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 3052~3060
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.3052
When planning to construct adjacent structure by the side tunnel, the criteria of safety zone of tunnel have been proposed. There are no specific theoretical basis regarding load conditions and the distance of structure and the geological strata and the conditions of adjacent structure's location, and the conditions applied load. Two and three dimensional numerical analysis preformed to prove the deformation of the ground and structures caused by the tunnel excavation and evaluated the correlation and the suitability of the tunnel's safety zone regarding the location of adjacent structures and the changes in the modulus of deformation. This paper proposed the safety zone's range is getting bigger as the modulus of deformation is higher. Also, it seems that the possible range of construction under constraints in the diagram of revalued safety zone significantly expands as shear failure line appears on the invert extension line below the spring line.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 3061~3067
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.3061
This paper exemplifies how "Case Study House" (CSH) Program has been reduced as an architectural style rather than an American alternative to European Modernism. CSH Program became less successful than it deserves in the post-war American building market while its contribution to modern domestic architecture is immense and still regarded significant. The Program was succeeded in obtaining attention from the general public for architect-built(custom-built) houses with standardized building parts and simultaneously it also attempted to discover prototyped plans aiming good affordable mass housing at the time of post-war house shortage. Subsequent works nonetheless stay remained in the realm of avant-gardian image-making only to reflect affluent regional life style.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 6, 2013, Pages 3068~3073
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.6.3068
Recently, studies of vibration control performance improvement of tall buildings connected by a sky-bridge have been conducted. In this study, the effect of difference of natural vibration periods of two buildings and install location of a sky-bridge on vibration control performance has been investigated. To this end, 40-story and 50-story building structures were selected as example structures. Analytical models were developed by varying the natural period difference ratio from 1.0 to 1.5. Artificial earthquake load based on KBC2009 was used as an excitation for time history analyses. Based on numerical simulation results, it has been shown that control performance for displacement and velocity of tall buildings connected by a sky-bridge is improved as the difference of natural periods of two buildings increases and the linked story becomes higher. However, in the case of acceleration response, it shows a counter trend compared to displacement and velocity responses.

Compatibility between mLLDPE and HDPE was investigated by observing the crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of their blends. HDPE and mLLDPE blends were prepared by a melt-blending with compositions of 100/0, 80/20, 60/40, 40/60/ 20/80 and 0/100. Four different mLLDPEs containing various octene contents (4.1, 6.8, 9.8 및 12.5 mol.%) were investigated. The melting temperature and crystallization peak temperature of the blends were measured by DSC and the mechanical properties were measured in an universal testing machine. By observation that the melting and crystallization peak temperatures of one component were affected by its counterparts, it was revealed that HDPE and mLLDPE are miscible or at leat partially miscible at molten state. It was also found that the crystalline phase of mLLDPE contains HDPE crystals. However. it was not clear that mLLDPE was cocrystalized in the crystalline phase of HDPE. By various investigation with DSC and mechanical properties, it was concluded that the compatibility between mLLDPE and HDPE decreases with the octene content in the mLLDPE.

The mangrove ecosystems have the capacity to act as a sink of heavy metals entering aquatic ecosystems. Despite their potential exposure to metal contaminated sediments, mangroves appear to be highly tolerant to heavy metals. In this study, we cloned metal tolerance gene from mangrove plant. Using CTAB method, RNA were isolated from leaves and root tissue of Rhizophora stylosa habitated at Weno island in Micronesia Chuuk lagoon using CTAB method and phytochelatin synthase 1 (PCS1) gene was cloned using gene specific primers. Expression of PCS1 gene was increased 1.91 fold and 2.72 fold in mangrove propagules exposed to 100 ppb Cd and 10 ppb Cu, respectively. These results indicate that expression of PCS1 gene are promising tools for health assessment of mangrove ecosystem.
