Oxidation Added Wet Cleaning Process for Synthetic Diamonds
Song, Jeongho ; Lee, Jiheon ; Song, Ohsung ;
Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 8, 2013, Pages 3597~3601
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.8.3597
In this study, a wet cleaning process, P II, using aqua-regia and sulfuric acid mixture with oxidant agent (
etc) is proposed to remove the metastable phase of graphite such as graphene and DLC for high quality synthetic diamonds. The process employed the conventional acid cleaning process (P I) as well as P I+P II to remove the graphite related impurities from the 200um-diamond powders synthesized at 7GPa-
-5minutes. The degree of cleaning after P I and P I+P II has been observed by naked-eye, optical microscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy, and TGA-DTA. After P I+P II, the color of diamond became more vividly yellow with enhanced saturation with naked eye and optical microscopy analysis. Moreover, the disappearance of diamond-like-carbon (DLC) peak (
) observed by Raman spectroscopy confirmed the decrease in amount of remaining impurities. TGA-DTA results showed that the graphite impurities first started to dissolve at
after PI process. However, the pyrolysis started at
after P I+P II process because of the dissolution of pure diamonds. This result proved the effective dissolution of the metastable phase of graphite. We expect that the proposed P II process may enhance the quality of diamonds through effective removal of surface impurities.
On an Improved Method for System Readiness Assesment to Meet Required Operational Capability in Weapon Systems Development
Kwon, Il-Ho ; Lee, Jae-Chon ;
Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 8, 2013, Pages 3602~3610
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.8.3602
The risk of failure in the development of modern weapon systems has been increasing as the demand on the capability and the resulting complexity of the weapons on the war fields are increasing drastically. The analysis of failure has indicated that the main causes can be the following: one is attributed to the unsatisfaction of the system operation concept; and the other is the use of premature technology. As such, DAPA in Korea is urging that the weapons systems development should meet the required operational capability (ROC) as a critical performance requirement. On the other hand, an approach to risk management is to use the technology readiness level (TRL) assessed for each individual technology alone. However, the method of TRL cannot assess the effect of integration between technologies and cannot be performed at system level, which is crucial to systems development. In order to improve the shortfalls, a concept of system readiness level (SRL) has been studied by introducing the technologies integration and also some forms of analysis of advanced degree of difficulty studied separately, but no model considering both of two reported yet. In this paper, under the framework of meeting the ROC, an improved SRL assessment model is presented, which is also considering the advanced degree of difficulty simultaneously. The application of the improved assessment method is discussed in connection with the life cycle of the weapon systems development in conformance with the ROC of DAPA.

DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.8.3611
Physical characteristics of a magneto-rheological(MR) fluid can be influenced by a magnetic field. In the present study, the behaviors of MR fluid are visualized and the shear stresses are measured under the magnetic field for density 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7
, and viscosity 100, 1000 and 10000cp. When the magnetic field is applied, particles of MR fluid are arranged along lines of magnetic field. It is observed that the flow pattern of MR fluid under the magnetic field is different from that of MR fluid without the magnetic field. Shear stress of MR fluids under the magnetic field changes significantly. Shear stress by the magnetic field increases the shape of a quadratic equation. When the density changes from
at 2.0A, the shear stress increases about 33%.

The modularization accomplished a big contribution in cost down and assembly-time shortening and the quality increase. But few improvements were made to this design largely due to the inflexibility of steel. In recent years, door modules made of PP-LFT material is manufactured using injection molding method. As a result, the plastic door modules allow more flexibility of door shape and become lighter. Warpage is generally large in the molded plastic door carrier plate due to the limitation of gate location and the fiber orientation. So after a few test injection the mold compensation processing for the improvement of an assembly characteristic. This research was performed to determine the factors that contribute to warpage for a injection-molded door carrier plate and presented differences in three mesh types of meshing method and its results. as a result we can improve process of tooling modification can reduce process of trial and error.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 8, 2013, Pages 3631~3637
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.8.3631
Gangway bellows in this study is the double wrinkled neoprene rubber component to accept various deviations between the carriage end parts of the articulated type high speed railway vehicle(HSRV). The fatigue failure of the bellows has a harmful effect on the riding comfort for the passengers with the increase of noise and ringing in the ears due to air-tightness failure during pass through a long tunnel. In this study, to assure the safety of gangway bellows of the HSRV, non-linear analysis of the gangway bellows considering triaxial angular displacement(rolling /yawing/pitching) between the carriage end parts are performed. The non-linear properties of the rubber are determined by uniaxial tension and equi-biaxial tension test. Moreover, from the results of non-linear analysis, the effects of the angular displacements and frictional coefficients are evaluated.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 8, 2013, Pages 3843~3849
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.8.3843
This study was conducted to determine the effects of fetal bovine serum (FBS), bovine serum albumin (BSA) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) on blastocoel formation, total cell number, apoptosis and apoptosis-related gene expression of porcine diploid parthenotes developing in vitro. The addition of 0.4% BSA to the culture medium enhanced the development of 2-cell stage parthenotes to the blastocysts stage (p<0.01). Treatment of FBS reduced cell numbers of blastocysts (p<0.01) and increased the percentage of apoptosis in blastocysts (p<0.001). However, BSA increased cell numbers, only in the presence of EGF reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction revealed that EGF enhanced the mRNA expression of Bcl-xL in the presence of 0.4% BSA but BSA and EGF alone had no effect. However, Treatment of FBS reduced Bcl-xL mRNA expression (p<0.05) and enhanced Bak expression. This result suggests that apoptosis related gene expression is significantly affected by supplements, which may result in alteration of apoptosis and embryo viability of porcine embryos developing in vitro.

The purpose of present study was to determine the frequency of RA with age and to investigate the age-related trends and changing-factors in RA, CA and IAs. The refractive power of the eye and the power of corneal anterior surface were measured with auto-refractor among 1,017 inhabitants aged 5 to 59 years in Cheongju in July 2010. The overall frequency of RA was 22.7%, and frequency of RA increased from 8.9% in 5~9 years age group to 36.8% in 20~29 years age group. It then dipped to 19.2% in 40~49 years age group but increased again 28.6% in 50~59 years age group.
components for RA, CA, and IAs were fairly stable in different age groups, the changes in
components for both RA and CA appeared to be decreased after age of 30 years. In addition, the refractive power on the vertical direction was changed slightly with age, but the refractive power on the horizontal direction was changed significantly with age. It was expected that the change in the frequency of astigmatism with age was due to the change in the refractive power of horizontal meridian.

Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, volume 14, issue 8, 2013, Pages 3958~3970
DOI : 10.5762/KAIS.2013.14.8.3958
This study was carried out to grasp the job stress and intention to change their jobs of nurses at general hospitals by their socio-demographic, job-related and health-related behavior characteristics and especially to investigate their relationship to the job stress and intention to change their jobs. The subjects were 355 nurses working at three university hospitals located in Daejeon City, and data were collected by a survey using self-administered questionnaires structured from April 1 to May 31, 2012. As a results, the average point of the nurses' intention to change jobs by the causes for job stress was significantly higher in the boss group with low support than in that with high support while it was higher in colleague group with low support than in that with high support. To look into the correlation between the points of intention to change their jobs and the causes for job stress, their intention to change their jobs showed a significant negative correlation to the boss's support and colleagues' support while there was no significant relationship with job demands and job autonomy. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, age, drinking coffee, department, job satisfaction, the boss's support and colleagues' support were selected as significant related variables affecting the nurses' intention to change their jobs and these variables' descriptive power was 29.4%. Viewed from the above results, it is suggested that the nurses' job stress and intention to change their jobs has a significant relationship with various variables such as socio-demographic, health-related behavior and job-related characteristics. In addition, there were a significant positive correlation between the causes for the job stress cause and intention to change their jobs, and among the causes for the job stress, support by their boss or colleagues turned out to be those affecting their intention to change their jobs. Thus, it is considered that it is necessary to minimize the nurses' job stress and at the same time to seek for specific measures for preventing their turnover.

This paper is related to the method of adding a emotional speech corpus to a high-quality large corpus based speech synthesizer, and generating various synthesized speech. We made the emotional speech corpus as a form which can be used in waveform concatenated speech synthesizer, and have implemented the speech synthesizer that can be generated various synthesized speech through the same synthetic unit selection process of normal speech synthesizer. We used a markup language for emotional input text. Emotional speech is generated when the input text is matched as much as the length of intonation phrase in emotional speech corpus, but in the other case normal speech is generated. The BIs(Break Index) of emotional speech is more irregular than normal speech. Therefore, it becomes difficult to use the BIs generated in a synthesizer as it is. In order to solve this problem we applied the Variable Break modeling. We used the Japanese speech synthesizer for experiment. As a result we obtained the natural emotional synthesized speech using the break prediction module for normal speech synthesize.

Sedimentary rocks from construction waste are discarded through open storage and landfilling, which causes an increase in construction cost and inefficient of execution of works. Some sandstone are selected and utilized as aggregates, but shale is buried as industrial waste. Therefore, in this research, we evaluated weathering properties of shale aggregate that is widely distributed throughout Daegu-Kyeongbuk region and freeze-thaw characteristics of concrete according to the replacement ratio of shale aggregate, in an effort to stabilize aggregate supply-demand in Daegu-Kyeongbuk region and develop alternative aggregates. We used red shale and black shale in the experiment, which were exported from a construction site in Deagu. We verified the usage of shale as a concrete aggregate by comparing andesite, which is broadly used as a thick aggregate for concrete, to hornfels, which is a metamorphic sedimentary rock. As a result of the experiment, we observed no degradation phenomenon for andesite and hornfels. However, a part of country rock containing black shale was found to be exfoliated. Red shale started having cracks in the direction of stratification after 1.5 months of direct exposure, and it broke into smaller pieces after approximately 4 months. After 300 cycles of freeze-thaw process on the concrete manufactured according to the replacement ratio of shale aggregate, the modulus of elasticity was 97% for plain and 95% for hornfels. In the case of RS_100, it was 57% after 210 cycles, and for BS_100, it was 54% after 240 cycles. Therefore, we established that, as the number of repetition increases, the freeze-thaw resistance decreases dramatically.

In the composite beam subjected to the hogging moment it is very difficult to evaluate the influence of the reduction of slab stiffness due to cracks and their development on the horizontal shear behavior of shear connection. In this study, a 3D FE model is developed by which one can analyze the composite action in the composite beam subjected to the hogging moment. In this FE model, each structural member and shear connection are modeled as similar as possible to details of the composite beam. Bending behaviour, and composite action which could not be analyzed using the existing 1D or 2D FE model are investigated by the 3D model. Analysis results show that the reinforcement ratio and crack behaviour of the slab are main factors which exert a strong influence on the composite action. According to the analysis results about load-slip behavior, initial crack of slab and yielding of rebars have a influence on the slip stiffness of shear connection. The existing experimental results, that the design of partial interaction can be more efficient in designing of shear connection of the composite beams, are indirectly verified by the FE analysis.

The wheel-rail interaction forces are influenced by the velocity of vehicle, wheel load, alignment (curve radius, cant etc). For the safety of track structure, it is required to evaluate the influences for track and influential factors. Recently, the HEMU 430-X, which was developed by Next Generation High-Speed Rail Development R&D Project, achieved 421.4km/h in a test run of Daegu.Busan section of the Gyeongbu high speed rail on March in 2013. In the case of additional speed-up test on Test-Bed Section(Gongju.Jeongeup: KP 100~128km Osong starting point), the analysis of track forces is required for outer rail by the increase of dynamic force and centrifugal force of vehicle. In this paper, the vehicle speed variation on HSL line is evaluated by TPS analysis considering the tractive effort of HEMU 430-X, tested running resistance and alignment of Honam HSR. And the track forces are evaluated by centrifugal force and impact factor on curved track.

Mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) are UV-absorbing substances, and diverse marine organisms have the evolved the capacity to diminished the direct and indirect damaging effects of environmental ultraviolet radiation by synthesis and accumulation of MAAs. In this study, we manufactured a radiofrequency (RF) generation device and applied to microalgal culture.
mHz of RF was supplied to culture vessel for Chlamydomonas sp. and samples were harvested at the designated time intervals (1, 0.5, 1 and 2 hr). MAAs biosynthetic genes, dehydroquinate synthase homolog (DHQS-like) and nonribosomal peptide synthetase homolog (NRPS-like), were cloned from Chlamydomonas sp. and their gene expressions under the RF exposure were analyzed using qRT-PCR. DHQS-like and NRPS-like gene expressions of Chlamydomonas sp. exposed to RF were increased 1.46 and 1.19 fold at 1 hr, respectively. These results means that DHQS-like and NRPS-like genes can be good biomarker candidates for diagnosis of MAAs biosynthesis in the Chlamydomonas sp.

We studied sea water pollution by waste water of H condominium near the Bunam Lake in Seosan City. We simulated COD of discharged waste water, and other factors can be expected by proportional. The direction of sea flow is almost west, and there is no fish cultivation in the west area, so it is safe for fish cultivation. We assumed that there is no flow in the sea water, and simulated the divergence of water pollution. We concluded that, the fish cultivation will be free from danger of water pollution.

Apolipophorin-III (apoLp-III) was isolated and purified from the last larval hemolymph of Galleria mellonella by the KBr gradient ultracentrifugation and gel chromatography (Sephadex G-100). In this paper, we examined that apoLp-III is taken up into the last larval fat bodies in Galleria mellonella. The last larval fat body tissues were incubated at room temperature for 30 min with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled apoLp-III (FITC-apoLp-III). Fluorescein microscopy and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) revealed that the last larval fat body tissues internalize FITC-apoLp-III. The results show that the apoLp-III is taken up by the last larval fat body.
