Photodarkening and Thermal Bleaching Effect in Ge-doped Multicomponent Oxide Glasses by UV Irradiation

Ge-doped rnulticomponent oxide glasses were prepared by a conventional melting method. The change of micro structure in glasses was investigated by using PL (photoluminescence) and ESR (electron spin resonance). Before UV irradiation, the PL intensity increased according to germanium contents, but decreased the intensity as soon as UV irradiation. A changed property was recovered near it original properties when it was annealed. These photodarkening and thermal bleaching effect were observed by ESR intrument. These effect did not change the glass phase but vary only change of micro structure.

A Study for the Development of a Optimal Last for Woman's Healthy Shoes

The purpose of the present study is to find design factors that have an effect on man's foot, and to develop an optimal last for man's functional shoe design based on these factors. Analyzing 4000 men's foot data, three men were selected for fitting test with the last and shoes manufactured in the present work. Based on the results of the fitting test, the modifications of last for the optimal design have been made using CAD/CAM technologies.
On Constructing Fractal Sets Using Visual Programming Language

In this paper, we present a mathematical theory and algorithm consoucting some fractal sets. Among such fractal sets, the degree-n bifurcation set as well as the Julia sets is defined by extending the concept of the Mandelbrot set to the complex polynomial
). Some properties of the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets have been theoretically investigated including the symmetry, periodicity, boundedness, and connectedness. An efficient algorithm constructing both the degree-n bifurcation let and the Julia sets is proposed using theoretical results. The mouse-operated software called "MANJUL" has been developed for the effective construction of the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets in graphic environments with C++ programming language under the windows operating system. Simple mouse operations can construct ann magnify the degree-n bifurcation set as well af the Julia sets. They not only compute the component period but also save the images of the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets to visually confirm various properties and the geometrical structure of the sets. A demonstration has verified the useful versatility of MANJUL.of MANJUL.

The bacteriostatic effect of the glass-ceramics on Staphyloroccus aureus and Salmonella typhi bacteria was more excellent than that of glass when the crystallization phase was transformed from LTP to AgTP.

The research is concerned with digitalization process and strategy of 'traditional industries'. Along with development of the Internet, new industries are emerging, while traditional industries are also rapidly shifting from old modes to new ones. Most traditional industries uy to enhance their adaptability for changing environment. The investigators argue the strategic intent of traditional industries can be categorized into the four different types. The typology consists of two axis. On the one hand, the directions of digitalization are rationalization and development of new business. On the other hand, the objects of digitalization are product and process. Characteristics of Selectivity in Anion Exchanges

Ion exchange is a chemical reaction between the ions in solution phase and ions in solid phase and is widely used in softening, demineralization, removal and collection of specific ions, and ion migration in the ground water. The ion selectivity depends on the charge and the hydrated radius of ion. The objective of this study was to examine the applicability of anion selectivity obtained from the ion exchange equilibrium OH/sup -/ < F/sup -/ < HCO/sup -/ < Cl/sup -/ < Br/sup -/ ≤ NO₃/sup -/ < SO₄/sup 2-/ to the column ion exchange. The column ion exchange was facilitated in the lower charge of counter-ion in the background electrolyte.
Effect of Temperature on Dissolution and Adsorption of Iron Oxide

Ethanolamine (ETA), instead of ammonia, increases pH in the secondary system water and inhibits the corrosion of iron, which improves the integrity of the steam generator tubes. The different physicochemical properties of ETA from ammonia provide the different effect on the dissolution and adsorption of corrosion products entering the steam generator and thus on the hideout returns of ionic impurities in the steam generator sludge pile. The objective of this study was to investigate those properties with increasing temperature. ETA is more adsorbed onto the iron oxides, which increases the solubility of them and also lowers the hideout returns due to the reduced impurities adsorbed.
An Analysis and Policy Issues of the Korean Venture Capital Markets

The Korean venture industry showed a rapid growth due to various government incentive measures, development in information technology, and explosive growth of the KOSDAQ market. Recently, however, the Korean venture industry has revealed numerous side effects, which seemed to be coming from excessively aggressive government involvement in the industry, and fallen into a deep depression. This phenomenon may imply that the Korean venture industry has been established by the government policy rather than based on the venture capital market, whereas the venture industry in advanced nations has grown up autogenously based on it. This paper analyzes the Korean venture capital market and suggests policy recommendations to revitalize the domestic venture capital market. They include facilitating the supply of funds through limited partnerships and overseas venture capital, extending the direct equity investment, and actively promoting the KOSDAQ market.
Development of a Cycle Simulation Program for Multi-Airconditioning Systems using R410A

In this study, the computer program called Multi_Cycle, which simulates the steady-state performance (coefficient of performance, capacity, power consumption and etc.) of multi- airconditioning systems using R410A, was developed. In order to validate the simulation program, a series of case studies were carried out. The Multi_Cycle consists of several subroutines for simulating indoor units. outdoor unit, compressor, and expansion devices. and for estimating the thermodynamic and transport properties of the refrigerants and moist air. It would appear to be advantageous to use the Multi_Cycle for a performance analysis when considering various kinds of refrigerants and the complex operating conditions of each unit making up the multi-airconditioner cycle. Moreover, the Multi_Cycle would seem to be useful tool in optimizing a multi-airconditioning system and establishing economical and efficient operating conditions in the multi-airconditioner cycle. In the present study, the Multi_Cycle was programmed with Digital Visual Fortran for the main simulation code and Visual Basic for- the graphic user interface.
Edible Coating Effects on Storage life of ‘Niikata’ Pear

In this study, edible coatings for ‘Niikata’ pears have been applied in order to provide an alternative way to control and extend market quality and shelf life during cold storage. Fruit treated with edible coatings had better effects on maintaining some quality features such as fresh weight, firmness and SSC content than non-coated fruits. However, non-coated fruits in terms of overall quality were better evaluated than fruit with edible film. It may be caused by various factors such as film thickness effect oil emulsion on fruit skin, unknown reactions between the fruit skin and functional groups in the chitosan structure and so on.
The Success requirement of implementing Medicare's SGR in Korea

The SGR system which is the basis for setting Medicare conversion factor updates was enacted since 1992. The SGR sets a target rate of spending growth based on factors influencing medical costs. In our situation of Fee Contracts in Korea, there exist much conflicts with SGR. This article seeks how we can implement the SGR system successfully in Korea. The major points are estimation of real economic parameters, adjustment of prior estimation, consideration of important factors influencing medical costs.
