Dynamic Crack Propagation Analysis for Mild Steel Specimen

Dynamic crack propagation in ductile steel is investigated by means of impact loaded 3 point bending specimens. The specimen has the size of
with a thickness of 10 mm. One static and two dynamic experiments with impact velocities of 30.2 m/s and 45.2 m/s are carried out. High speed photography is used to obtain crack growth and crack tip opening displacement data. Direct measurement of the relative rotation of the two specimen halves is made by using Moire interference pattern. The experiments indicate no or only a slight influence of the loading rate on the crack propagation.
Statistical Fracture Analysis of Turbine blade

The optimum design of turbine blade at minimized fatigue life can be derived by the statistical fatigue analysis in this study, The optimum value of positions in the axes of X and Y at turbine blade can be found by design of experiments on the condition that the value of fillet radius is fixed to minimize the fatigue life. The degree of uncertainty about process at the factors in the axes of X and Y can be calculated by six sigma analysis. The optimum value of fillet radius is determined by utilizing the robust design at uncertain condition. It is concluded that maximum von Mises stress can decreased by 20% and the fatigue life can be double.
Prediction of Dynamic Characteristics of Small DC Motor

In this paper, described is a research on the modal analysis of small DC motor by finite element method fer the vibration reduction. An impact test is performed to obtain the natural frequencies and modal shapes of DC motor, which valuate the usefulness of the finite element analysis model. From the study, we show that this finite element analysis model can be applicable for designing a new motor with improvement in vibration characteristics. As an example, a shape modification of DC motor is performed and its vibration characteristics is discussed in comparison with those of original shape.
A Study on the Comparison of Brazed Joint of Zircaloy-4 with PVD-Be and Zr-Be Amorphous alloys as Filler Metals

Brazing is an important manufacturing process in the fabrication of Heavy Water Reactor fuel rods, in which bearing and spacer pads are joined to Zircaloy-4 cladding tubes. The physical vapor deposition(PVD) technique is currently used to deposit metallic Be on the surfaces of pads as a filler metal. Amorphous Zr-Be binary alloys which are manufactured by rapid solidification process are under developing to substitute the conventional PVD-Be coating. In the present study, brazed joint with PVD and amorphous alloys of
as filler metals are compared by mechanism, microstructure and hardness. The thickness of brazed joint with amorphous alloys became much smaller than that of PVD-Be. The erosion of base metal did not occur in the brazed joint with amorphous alloys. The brazing mechanism for PVD-Be seems to be Be diffusion into Zr-4 with capillary action resulting from eutectic reaction while that for amorphous alloys are associated with the liquid phase formation in the brazed joint. The brazed joint microstructure with PVD-Be consists of dendrite while that with amorphous alloys is globular. The
alloy shows the smooth interface with little erosion in the base metal and is recommended a most suitable brazing filler metal for Zircaloy-4.
Effect of Co content on Magnetoresistance in Rapid Solidified CuCo ribbons

Improvement of Memory Efficiency in Hierarchical Control Structure described by SFC

Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) is the most widely utilized and plays an important role in industrial control system. Sequential Function Chart(SFC) is a graphic language which is suitable for describing a sequential control logic in discrete control system. We can design a distribute control construction and a hierarchical control construction in process control system described by SFC. In hierarchical control structure, we construct each subsystems to synchronize a synchronous signal between subsystems, and the command system gives and takes a synchronous signal with subsystems. Therefore, the system has a low memory efficiency and a low system performance. In this paper, we propose the method that improved the efficiency of memory in hierarchical control construction, and confirm its feasibility through an actual example.

Design of a Robust Controller Using Disturbance Rejection Controller

This paper proposes the design of a robust controller based on disturbance observer which is strong to variation of system parameters, uncertainty of models or external disturbance. The controller consists of a mode based compensator and a feedback controller based on two-loop structure. The compensator in the internal-loop removes internal and external disturbances and a feedback controller in the external loop achieves performance along with given specifications. As a result, it shows that the proposed robust controller can stabilize a system against disturbance and improve controlling performance.
An Omnidirectional Antenna for REID UHF Band Tag

UHF band omnidirectional antennas for RFID tag were designed. Crossed loaded dipole and bended dipole were applied to be designed for both miniaturization and omnidirectional radiation pattern. By suppling 90 degrees phase difference between crossed dipoles, omnidirectional E-plane patterns can be obtained. -10 dB reflection coefficients of 3 types dipole antenna which have designed under conjugate matched with input impedance of chip were shown as 670-1,050 MHz, 700-1,250 MHz and 600-1,020 MHz, respectively, and also shown that all antenna have omnidirectional radiation pattern both E and H plane.

It is one of the most effective methods for improving the performance of electric railway vehicles to make better the wheel-rail adhesion characteristics. To study adhesion characteristic is to develop the equivalent reduction machine to experiment on the adhesion system. The experiment system makes it possible to change the wheel-rail adhesion force with various adhesion parameters, and therewith to test the adhesion control system with the reduction machine in a laboratory. In this paper, for improving adhesion performance shows actually control methods.

In this paper, power supply for ozone generating system is explained. Output voltage and frequency are controlled by phase displacement control of single phase inverter using ATmega128. The values of desired output voltage and frequency set using keypad and displayed using LCD. Actually, power supply is designed and manufactured. Through the experiments, the performance of output voltage and frequency control is verified.

A Study of Carbon Nanotube Channel Field-Effect Devices

We investigated field-effect ion-transport devices based on carbon nanotubes by using classical molecular dynamics simulations under applied external force fields, and we present model schematics that can be applied to the nanoscale data storage devices and unipolar ionic field-effect transistors. As the applied external force field is increased, potassium ions rapidly flow through the nanochannel. Under low external force fields, thermal fluctuations of the nanochannels affect tunneling of the potassium ions whereas the effects of thermal fluctuations are negligible under high external force fields. Since the electric current conductivity increases when potassium ions are inserted into fullerenes or carbon nanotubes, the field effect due to the gate, which can modify the position of the potassium ions, changes the tunneling current between the drain and the source.

Wireless sensor network forms the self-organization network, and transfers the information among sensor nodes that have computing technology ability and wireless communication ability. The recent sensor network is study for low-power, micro, low cost of node is proceeded. Recently, the research of application services in wireless sensor networks is proceeded. Therefore, in this paper, we design the prototype of the real-time information service that support a user the information of temperature, illumination etc. And, we implement the alarm application service fer the disaster prevention on Internet base on IPv4/IPv6. We develop the module of the extract information using the query processing based on TinyOS, and the module of the server's database using MySQL data base management system and JDBC. Additionally, we develop the client module that receive the real-time sensing data using ODBC in Internet based on IPv4/IPv6.
Named Entity Boundary Recognition Using Hidden Markov Model and Hierarchical Information

This paper proposes a method for boundary recognition of named entity using hidden markov model and ontology information of biological named entity. We uses smoothing method using 31 feature information of word and hierarchical information to alleviate sparse data problem in HMM. The GENIA corpus version 2.1 was used to train and to experiment the proposed boundary recognition system. The experimental results show that the proposed system outperform the previous system which did not use ontology information of hierarchical information and smoothing technique. Also the system shows improvement of execution time of boundary recognition.

Since the late 1920's possibility of commercial hydroponics was testified practically. Hydroponics is used as environmentally friendly agriculture production system recently with high effectiveness. Now that existing irrigation control systems such as time control or solar radiation control cannot satisfy stable water content in root substrates, the needs for new irrigation system keep increasing. In this paper, we proposed environmentally friendly automatic irrigation management system by employing automation system based on electronic control system, which could solve problems based on manual irrigation management system. In addition, it suggested to be applied to any crops and will be able to overcome existing limit in irrigation by measuring the water content of root substrate in realtime.
Design of the Wideband Power Amplifier for a Frequency Hopping Radio

A wideband power amplifier for a frequency hopping radio unit is designed. To obtain higher efficiency, it is designed for the Class B mode overdrived. The broadband transformer and feedback circuits are adapted to obtain broadband characteristics. The designed amplifier is simulated using the ADS, which is a CAD software from HPEEsof, Simulation results of the designed amplifier are well suited for the design specifications. The designed amplifier are fabricated. Measured results of the fabricated amplifier well agreed with the simulation results and are in good agreement with the predicted performance
Study on Using Teeth Images in Biometrics

Abstract This paper presents a personal identification method based on BMME and LDA for images acquired at anterior and posterior occlusion expression of teeth. The method consists of teeth region extraction, BMME, and pattern recognition forthe images acquired at the anterior and posterior occlusion state of teeth. Two occlusions can provide consistent teeth appearance in images and BMME can reduce matching error in pattern recognition. Using teeth images can be beneficial in recognition because teeth, rigid objects, cannot be deformed at the moment of image acquisition. In the experiments, the algorithm was successful in teeth recognition for personal identification for 20 people, which encouraged our method to be able to contribute to multi-modal authentication systems.
The Efficient Error Resilient Entropy Coding for Robust Transmission of Compressed Images

Many image and video compression algorithms work by splitting the input image into blocks and producing variable-length coded bits for each block data. If variable-length coded data are transmitted consecutively, then the resulting coder is highly sensitive to channel errors. Therefore, most image and video techniques for providing some protection to the stream against channel errors usually involve adding a controlled amount of redundancy back into the stream. Such redundancy might take the form of resynchronization markers, which enable the decoder to restart the decoding process from the known state, in the event of transmission errors. The Error Resilient Entropy Code (EREC) is a well known method which can regain synchronization without any redundant information to convert from variable-length code to fixed-length code. This paper proposes an enhancement to EREC, which greatly improves its transmission ability for the compressed image quality without any redundant bits in the event of errors. The simulation result shows that the both objective and subjective quality of transmitted image is enhanced compared with the existing EREC at the same BER(Bit Error Rate).
Performance Evaluation of Position-based and Non-position-based Routing Protocols in a Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network

In this paper, we evaluate and compare performance between position-based and non-position-based routing protocols in a vehicular ad-hoc network. The protocols evaluated in this paper for many performance evaluation aspects are a position-based routing protocol, GPSR (Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing), and the non-position-based such as AODV (Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) and DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) protocols. The three protocol characteristics such as Packet Delivery Ratio, Latency of first packet per connection, and Average number of hops depending on distance are compared and evaluated. As the result of simulation, the AODV performed better than the DSR. However, due to the high mobility characteristic of a vehicular ad-hoc network, GPSR, the position-based routing performs better than the non-position-based routing protocols such as AODV and DSR in a vehicular ad-hoc network environment.
Study on Application of Criteria of Lateral Flow in Soft Soils

In this paper, the criteria of the lateral displacement in soft soil due to embankment were evaluated. The lateral displacement was measured at a pier structure in a new harbor construction site, and the measurement was compared with the criteria. The results by the measurement such as the critical pressure causing lateral movement in terms of undrained strength, the lateral movement index by Japan Highway Co., the lateral displacement index by Japan Construction Ministry, the modified index by Korean Highway Co. were estimated to be lower than the respective index values.

A Study on the price of inpatient's meal by using cost analysis method

A controversy get more deeply intensified about the price of inpatient's meal provided in hospital as the Ministry of Health and Welfare declared the National Health Insurance will cover inpatient's meal from 2006. By using newly designed cost analysis method and stratification method of the population, the optimal price of inpatient's meal are derived based on the 71 sample hospitals. This study analyzed 71 samples based on the activity based costing(ABC) and the method of relative units value(RUV). The factors influencing the level of cost are found by linking the results of cost and statistical analysis. As the key factors influencing the cost are the number of employees in a nutrition department and a the number of meals provided to the patients, These factors should be considered when the optimal price of inpatient meals is set for the coverage of the National Health Insurance
A Design of Integrated Management System for Manufacturing Company with Multiple Production Strategies

This study presents a design of integrated management system for manufacturing company for the purpose of reducing operation cost and speeding up flow of processes. Since common commercial management package should be well customized to reflect inherent processes of each company with great deal of effort, this study chooses a manufacturing company that produces component parts of automobile as a target company and designs management system specified for that target company. System design focuses on the minimization of the indirect cost of manufacturing reflected on the manufacturing cost price for each functional modules consisting of entire system through adding a mechanism to reduce unnecessary occurrence of process transactions. In addition, this paper considers connectivity among the functional modules so that manufacturing situations can be influenced on the system to be implemented and includes the system design with monitoring modules and data flow between functional modules.
THE DISTRIBUTION OF SIGNS AND PEDESTRIANS' WALKING BEHAVIORS IN UNDERGROUND SPACE -A CASE STUDY OF THE UNDERGROUND SHOPPING CENTRE IN TENJIN, FUKUOKA-

The objective of this research was to investigate the way information is used by pedestrians in underground space. Furthermore, we wanted to know how pedestrians utilize information from signage of signs by pedestrians. Thus, we conducted an investigation on the pedestrians' walking behavior in Fukuoka City, Tenjin underground shopping centers, and 1) checked routes taken by the subjects; and 2) categorized the signs that were observed, the pedestrians' movement patterns, the way information from signage isused by the pedestrians, the signs' locations, the relationship between the spaces, the heights of the signs and the types of signs offering directions. The results showed that there is a need to solve certain problems related to the locations of the signs and the walking behaviors of the subjects. To solve the problems exhibited by the subjects' walking behaviors, we came up with a variety of guidance information that could be used. The contents of the guidance information differ depending on the specified heights for the placement of signs and the information used depending on the location. The results also showed that the continuity between places needs to be shown more effectively by the guidance system, and that too many signs are positioned in places where the frequency of use is low.
AN ORDERING MODEL TO DETERMINE PRODUCTION QUANTITY IN JUST-IN-TIME PRODUCTION SYSTEM

In this paper we consider multi-stage, multi-product production, inventory systems which have assembly-tree-structure. We propose a new mathematical model for pull type ordering systems based on JIT manufacturing systems. To apply the model to an actual automobile parts manufacturer, the objective of proposed model is to minimize the sum of inventory and setup costs. Finally, a numerical example and computational results are given to illustrate the proposed model.
A Case Study on the Effect of Student Field Practice of Employed Worker

A case study was investigated the effect of student field practice of employed worker who graduate department of New Materials & Applied Chemistry of Chungwoon University. A question sheet were composed the general information(8 terms), practice data(3 terms), trouble (10 terms) and effect (9 terms). The results of analysis 40 answer sheets among alumni of 2001 - 2004 are summarized as follows ; the problem of student field practice were rare opportunity on selection of field practice institute (enterprise) and non systemic operation of enterprise. The effect of student field practice were the relation of academic curriculum and the assist on the job guidance. The student field practice was connected on the job almost.
